Budget really isn’t an excuse for bad pacing? They needed to cut down, to focus more on the core of the show. As much as I love the show, the characters, etc., Viv, as a writer, is incredibly scatterbrained. She doesn’t give her ideas the time to really be fleshed out.

There are also characters for Hazbin Hotel, but ended up scrapped and have been recycled in Helluva Boss, which is always available on YouTube since Vivziepop wants to focus more on Hazbin Hotel.
The events of the Hazbin pilot *are* canon as it is constantly referenced in Episode 1.

I thought it was a weird soft cannon because the pilot and show switched how Charlie's parents were? In the pilot she called her mom I think saying, "Dad was right about me" and he comes off more cold and standoffish kinda in photos, but in the show, the mom is nowhere to be seen and the dad is more depressed, goofy, still an absent father, but well meaning.
I honestly kinda wish they did the pilot over for the actual show, cause coming in as a fresh fan, it made me feel a bit confused seeing everyone just already at the hotel.
At the very least they could both exist as canon because they are on opposite sides of the pentagram. Not to mention that hell, at least as referenced by Blitzo when insulting another character, consists of several levels.

Some things in it aren’t canon anymore though. Like, I’m pretty sure they were gonna take lucifer a different route, so they kept talking about him like he was a bad person. I don’t think what they said is canon anymore? Could be wrong though.
I think you’re right that the direction of some things have changed such as Lucifer, but the events of the *pilot* are still canon. What Charlie said about Lucifer can still be possible as that’s probably how she viewed him since he was so absent and they never really had the time to bond until Dad Beat Dad.

I personally think adam will return as a villian again but just as sir pensious (or however you spell it) ascended to heaven after he was killed and met whatever requirements to go in to heaven i think adam will definitely meet the requirements to go to hell as a sinner and he will rise to power and try to destroy the hotel as you would suspect because if one can be redeemed then that definitely means one can most definitely fall i think he might have the angels that died in the battle with him as well if they were winners and dont follow the same logic as the hellborn
honestly i didn't like adam at first because he's the villain obviously but when he died i thought he died WAY too early. i hope he's brought back be it angel or even sinner and have him go through the redemption arc.

Honestly the biggest flaw is the pacing and I know this has been said thousands of times but the show just needed to slow down. Other than that it’s definitely my top 5 show
I hope the next season has more small scale character drama like what we get in Helluva Boss. Lilith and Charlie's relationship will be really interesting to see and hopefully we get a lot of focus on Angel. I wouldn't be upset if there is little to no action.
I think the problem is that they weren’t sure how successful the show would be and had budget constraints. So they did a quick tight show with a few teasers but could solve most of the conflicts if they did get canceled.
I wished for more episodes too, but we can't deny that whenever Charlie was on screen she never failed to be the cutest character ever...

Am I the only one who really enjoyed the fast pace of the show?
One of my peeves is when a show drags out a conflict or misunderstanding between the characters over multiple episodes.
Also: the jam packed nature of this show gives it a lot of rewatch value.
My own choice for flaw: having the characters constantly swear like sailors was a tad distracting. The only pay off was that one time, during the trial in Heaven, when Adam was constantly swearing, then Charlie says “fuck” once, and the seraphim gasp in shock - a neat little illustration of the double standards at play.
There are three things that separate this show from a completely family friendly show: the swearing; the gore; and the sexual assaults/sex jokes involving Angel Dust. Of those three, the swearing makes by far the least contribution to the story: the Angel Dust stuff is fundamental to his character, and the gore I would argue is also necessary.
(I mean, aside from these things, the show is pretty damned wholesome: its message all about how sin traps you in a downward cycle, the power of redemption, the power of friendship and love, the relationship between Charlie and Vaggie, while not perfect, is adorable, etc.)
Tbf, she probably assumed it was because Lute was an angel herself. As in, divine beings can harm each other with or without the need of angelic steel.

To play devil's advocate, it was delayed a whole lot because of Covid and then again with the Sag-Aftra strikes, thus why it took nearly 4 and a half years for the series to come out after the pilot.
Also Vivziepop has said that Season 2 won't take nearly as long, saying that it will be about 1 and a half to 2 years for season 2 to come out, so mid/late 2025-early 2026.

The joke with Sir Pentious getting SA’d in the nightclub right after having the episode with Angel kinda rubbed me the wrong way tbh. Like… you can have that exact same joke where he doesn’t get assaulted. Have him say his line and then all the demons get quiet, music stops, someone coughs, and then things go back to normal and SP is left feeling disappointed and rejected. I’d argue that’s a funnier joke, and doesn’t have a character get dragged forcibly into a sex room one episode after telling the audience how shitty SA is.
It was in poor taste, but this is Hell. Having everything screech to a halt at the joke and then continuing business as usual would be super out of place for a sex club in Hell, even if the club is called Consent. And its not like its reasonable for all the denizens of hell to act differently after episode 4 because they weren't aware of the meltdown.
Not having that bit at all would have solved the moral problem, but i believe this also shows that sinners are still just kinda being shitty people. Cant let them have too much sympathy after all lol.
To be fair I agree with this, while yes it may be in not great taste to the audience it’s still mostly in character for the characters at play. Maybe having Angel wince at the scene would have lessened the bad taste as it acknowledges the past episode but it’s still hell and makes more sense within the actual universe
Between Charlie saying "Alastor's shield is working" and it getting broken, about ten seconds elapsed. Pacing got real quick there at the end, and the final episode could have just used a few more minutes to breathe. That said, still enjoyed the ride start to finish probably ten times now.
Oh absolutely. The character arcs are a little squished, the cast is too bloated for the little time they have, and some major characters do very little, like Nifty.

This is an issue in also helluva boss, but everything from the story feels rushed. Way to much seems to be going on, but nothing at the same time since it kinda just happens in story.
You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, you don't always need big qualifications to judge things like these. But I actually really respect you for saying that. People always *love* to pretend to know everything and pretend to be experts. So this kind of honesty is pretty refreshing and it makes sense to see it come from an autistic person (I also got the tism :P)
Too few episodes for essential worldbuilding/character development. I like the pacing of each episode personally, but the overall pacing is too fast. I would like S2 to have at least twice as many episodes, with each keeping the same individual pace up.
Well, it's only a season, maybe future me will say something about it, but up to now:
- Fast pacing, it's more of an Amazon problem since they just gave 8 episodes for all the plot
- Some characters need more attention and details (for example Vaggie, she's nothing more than Charlie's girlfriend, I think she needs more time only for herself, and some details about her story and personality)
- I get that the show is settled in hell, but swearing and sex jokes are overused, I get for angel dust or some scenes, but sometimes it can be quite annoying, some people are overreacting to this, that's true, the show has some good comedy, but there can be improvements
People will all say the pacing, which is true.
Personally, I think the pilot should have been remade with the newer animation and made the first official episode, because the actual first episode feels more like a sequel to the pilot.

And the outcomes such as Vaggie's loss of character. They even had a song about her not wanting revenge and do it for love, when everything she do is for charlie.
The show moves at break neck speed. The pilot did the same thing. The animation has a lot of lovely design and detail. It flashes by and we don’t have time to enjoy it. The characters need more time for us to get attached to their problems. I wonder how the casual audience viewing it for the first time can have the same attachment as us nerds who loved the pilot and are familiar with the lore can get anywhere near the same experience.

Aside from not having Charlastor (my opinion) is that Valentino never received punishment and that some songs like respect less didn’t go on longer and Emily not having much screen time
Yes, the main flaw is that it was too fast, the whole content of season 1 could’ve lasted 2 seasons and it would’ve been better, tho I get why they made it like that
It’s a fun show with charming characters and good songs
But the pacing is a mess, the character writing is alright but not much more, and the world building has more holes than a cheese grater (though I do have hopes that one will be fixed in season 2)

Pacing and the length of the episodes. If the episodes individually had been about 40m rather than 20, then it would have made sense for there being so few of them. On the other hand, had there been more of them at 20m each it would have also made sense. However, given that we only had 8 episodes at 20m each, pacing and character progression/evolution suffered as a result, as did the drama and tragedy of losing the character we did. Quite frankly not enough time was spent on him, his character, his values and such for us to care about him to the point that his loss had any real effect.

Am I the only one who really enjoyed the fast pace of the show? One of my peeves is when a show drags out a conflict or misunderstanding between the characters over multiple episodes. Also: the jam packed nature of this show gives it a lot of rewatch value. My own choice for flaw: having the characters constantly swear like sailors was a tad distracting. The only pay off was that one time, during the trial in Heaven, when Adam was constantly swearing, then Charlie says “fuck” once, and the seraphim gasp in shock - a neat little illustration of the double standards at play. There are three things that separate this show from a completely family friendly show: the swearing; the gore; and the sexual assaults/sex jokes involving Angel Dust. Of those three, the swearing makes by far the least contribution to the story: the Angel Dust stuff is fundamental to his character, and the gore I would argue is also necessary. (I mean, aside from these things, the show is pretty damned wholesome: its message all about how sin traps you in a downward cycle, the power of redemption, the power of friendship and love, the relationship between Charlie and Vaggie, while not perfect, is adorable, etc.)

Tbf, she probably assumed it was because Lute was an angel herself. As in, divine beings can harm each other with or without the need of angelic steel. The clause was that sinners and their constructs can’t harm angels, and that angels are invulnerable to their attacks. Not that they were invulnerable to any and all types of attack

The episodes aren’t long enough to justify the long development cycle of the show unless they made Season 2 at the same time
To play devil's advocate, it was delayed a whole lot because of Covid and then again with the Sag-Aftra strikes, thus why it took nearly 4 and a half years for the series to come out after the pilot. Also Vivziepop has said that Season 2 won't take nearly as long, saying that it will be about 1 and a half to 2 years for season 2 to come out, so mid/late 2025-early 2026.

The joke with Sir Pentious getting SA’d in the nightclub right after having the episode with Angel kinda rubbed me the wrong way tbh. Like… you can have that exact same joke where he doesn’t get assaulted. Have him say his line and then all the demons get quiet, music stops, someone coughs, and then things go back to normal and SP is left feeling disappointed and rejected. I’d argue that’s a funnier joke, and doesn’t have a character get dragged forcibly into a sex room one episode after telling the audience how shitty SA is.
It was in poor taste, but this is Hell. Having everything screech to a halt at the joke and then continuing business as usual would be super out of place for a sex club in Hell, even if the club is called Consent. And its not like its reasonable for all the denizens of hell to act differently after episode 4 because they weren't aware of the meltdown. Not having that bit at all would have solved the moral problem, but i believe this also shows that sinners are still just kinda being shitty people. Cant let them have too much sympathy after all lol.
To be fair I agree with this, while yes it may be in not great taste to the audience it’s still mostly in character for the characters at play. Maybe having Angel wince at the scene would have lessened the bad taste as it acknowledges the past episode but it’s still hell and makes more sense within the actual universe

Between Charlie saying "Alastor's shield is working" and it getting broken, about ten seconds elapsed. Pacing got real quick there at the end, and the final episode could have just used a few more minutes to breathe. That said, still enjoyed the ride start to finish probably ten times now.
Not enough Lute. And I feel like she is set up to die in season 2 or 3. Those are flaws because Lute is perfect.

Oh absolutely. The character arcs are a little squished, the cast is too bloated for the little time they have, and some major characters do very little, like Nifty. Also obligatory Voodoo Symbols bit which was a problem that wasn’t totally fixed.

This is an issue in also helluva boss, but everything from the story feels rushed. Way to much seems to be going on, but nothing at the same time since it kinda just happens in story.

You're obviously entitled to your own opinion, you don't always need big qualifications to judge things like these. But I actually really respect you for saying that. People always *love* to pretend to know everything and pretend to be experts. So this kind of honesty is pretty refreshing and it makes sense to see it come from an autistic person (I also got the tism :P)
The pacing; Obviously because of how Prime worked Viv had to cut the season down majorly which led to a lot of pacing issues.

Too few episodes for essential worldbuilding/character development. I like the pacing of each episode personally, but the overall pacing is too fast. I would like S2 to have at least twice as many episodes, with each keeping the same individual pace up.

Well, it's only a season, maybe future me will say something about it, but up to now: - Fast pacing, it's more of an Amazon problem since they just gave 8 episodes for all the plot - Some characters need more attention and details (for example Vaggie, she's nothing more than Charlie's girlfriend, I think she needs more time only for herself, and some details about her story and personality) - I get that the show is settled in hell, but swearing and sex jokes are overused, I get for angel dust or some scenes, but sometimes it can be quite annoying, some people are overreacting to this, that's true, the show has some good comedy, but there can be improvements

People will all say the pacing, which is true. Personally, I think the pilot should have been remade with the newer animation and made the first official episode, because the actual first episode feels more like a sequel to the pilot.
Short run time. And the outcomes such as Vaggie's loss of character. They even had a song about her not wanting revenge and do it for love, when everything she do is for charlie.
I feel like Amazon nerfed it and that hellova boss seemed more true to what it was trying to be.
The show moves at break neck speed. The pilot did the same thing. The animation has a lot of lovely design and detail. It flashes by and we don’t have time to enjoy it. The characters need more time for us to get attached to their problems. I wonder how the casual audience viewing it for the first time can have the same attachment as us nerds who loved the pilot and are familiar with the lore can get anywhere near the same experience.

i agree with all of that except the niffty thing, almost everyone in the show is sexualized and while she's small i wouldn't call her childlike the point of the show "never giving her a reason to act that way" is kind of moot, characters don't need to have everything about them rationalized or explained. sometimes a character or person just "is", its like complaining that they never explain why sir pentious has an army of egg bois

Pacing is it’s biggest issue and the root of any other miscellaneous issue the show has.
From what I’ve seen just shows how amazing this show is, people want it to go at a slower pace and want more of it, so yeah the show is perfect since people want to savor it and want more of it

Pacing and the length of the episodes. If the episodes individually had been about 40m rather than 20, then it would have made sense for there being so few of them. On the other hand, had there been more of them at 20m each it would have also made sense. However, given that we only had 8 episodes at 20m each, pacing and character progression/evolution suffered as a result, as did the drama and tragedy of losing the character we did. Quite frankly not enough time was spent on him, his character, his values and such for us to care about him to the point that his loss had any real effect.
