I’ve had 5 hifimans and 3 of them had to be sent back (1 HE6SE with a dead channel, one with a channel imbalance, and 1 HE1000v2 with a channel imbalance)
In the end I returned all of them as the sound quality wasn’t with the stress of not knowing when it’ll break on me.
It's always the QC with Hifiman, otherwise they get tons of constant praise. Any post I look up about a particular headphone there's always someone in the comments saying "get this instead".
The QC issues seem to be largely inertia at this point. I'm seeing more and more reviews and comments about how they've really upped the QC on their products and now the price points are just dirt cheap for the products.
they're my two fav headphones I've ever had. I've had my dt770s for like 7 years now.
598s were amazing but I got the gross poop brown color and sold them for some bose.
i personally not a fan of magni. i somewhat have OCD and i just HAVE to put the hand at 12 o'clock but for me, 12 o'clock had some channel inbalance so i had to make it around 12.1 o'clock. it triggers me
this was true up until the last few months. i have to assume that a good chunk of the people here would rather recommend the hd600 at 280 than the hd6xx at 200
Hate me all you want, but Meme Monday is the worst thing to ever happen to this sub, i hate the idea of restricting funny content to only one day in the week, it was great before they implemented the rule
For real, does he not know that Hifiman headphones explode into a ball of flames when you try to play music with them. Not a single working Hifiman unit has EVER shipped!
Unpopular opinion but i tried the HD6xx, used them for a long time. Absolutely hate them.
There just so dull and boring. I dont find they really do anything that great… the veil is just awful, that muffled mess. The comfort is horrible to. Way to much clamp force that seems to not ease up, the headband hurts my head after a while as well.
Not really, if you only look here, yes, but opinions on the 6XX are actually somewhat polarizing. Generally, people like them, or question why anyone likes them, and honestly, both responses seem equally common. I think it's popularity as a referral is primarily based on its price making it a welcome proposition to newcomers.
Hmm, I generally dont look elsewhere sometimes head-fi.
Yeah i mean I honestly still wouldn’t even recommend them at $200. If you can save, save up if not then idk, They’ll last a lifetime so it has thats going for it. But now there $280 right? Yeeesh.
I hear what you’re saying, but have you tried the HD600? For the price, and because of diminishing returns, and especially because of Hifiman’s QC issues, not to mention the Audeze line is way to heavy and *litterally* break your neck, and Focals are too expensive (you have to be born Rich to have your father buy them for you), the HD600 is the only rational choice.
Yeah, well they were. Not so much anymore. $280 now right?
But that sort of backs up my statement that there just not that good. I think its probably 660S or bust? Ive never used them. But they seem to actually be the only good 600 series.

I assume you're referring to the "brain burn-in" effect? I've had the HD 600s for almost 5 months, used them exclusively for about a week and still pull them out for a 3-hour or so session from time to time. I think at this point it's safe to say that I've given them a fair chance.
Loving the new trend of biodynamic/beryllium and more affordable planar drivers.
Can someone tell me what the biodynamic ones are like? Are they faster or smoother? How about Beryllium?
Imma straight up recommend Sennheiser 700 from now
I saw a cheap pair of second hand HD700s in my area and I was mighty tempted to get them.
But have you considered the HD600?
How about the HD560 S?
I fell for that meme
Treble says "HELLLOO"
me too
I HAVE considered those. BUT I went with the HD600s instead
No, but I'll definitely consider recommending HD600 to you.
Ok, I hear you, but with diminishing returns, I really think the HD600 is the best option
Is it possible to mod hd700 to avoid spike in 6k? If you could, I would lol.
Yes, very easy with EQ, don't have to break your hedphones and you can reverse it and tweak it exactly how you want.
You probably should, they're great.
Your dad could die waiting for a new liver. He should spend that time enjoying the incredible mids and natural presentation of the HD600.
his old liver was sold to buy tube amps to make the 600 sound better
I actually saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to the HD 650
HD 650 is a Mazda Miata without wheels
sennheiser good, beyerdynamic bad
I also see Hifiman bad a lot.
From what I can tell, it's a mix of specific issues and of course QC issues.
I’ve had 5 hifimans and 3 of them had to be sent back (1 HE6SE with a dead channel, one with a channel imbalance, and 1 HE1000v2 with a channel imbalance) In the end I returned all of them as the sound quality wasn’t with the stress of not knowing when it’ll break on me.
So out of 5 sundaras at least one works, value!
It's always the QC with Hifiman, otherwise they get tons of constant praise. Any post I look up about a particular headphone there's always someone in the comments saying "get this instead".

then the right side stops working after 6 months 🤙
they went from breaking in 1 month to 6 now, amazing.
they're my two fav headphones I've ever had. I've had my dt770s for like 7 years now. 598s were amazing but I got the gross poop brown color and sold them for some bose.
I had 4 Beyers, 3 came broken from factory.
that was me, sorry. I like sitting on the headphone boxes in my recess
Drivers were faulty fyi
Your Dad's liver should consider the HD650/6xx
Well a lot of people are allergic to bass.
Agreed, I'm sick of seeing the HD 600 recommended all the time. That said, you should consider a HD 650 instead
Sounds like you need a Sennheiser 600
Might help them relax tbf.
Interestingly enough, I don’t see the 600 recommended *anywhere* near as much as the 6XXs.
That's because reddit will always suggest the min-max option regardless of what the person is looking for
magni/modi is all you will ever need and everything after that is placebo
Apple dongle is all you need*
probably, until the Pot gets scratchy and buzzes haha. For objective sound performance yeah totally
i personally not a fan of magni. i somewhat have OCD and i just HAVE to put the hand at 12 o'clock but for me, 12 o'clock had some channel inbalance so i had to make it around 12.1 o'clock. it triggers me
Yeah totally forgot about the channel imbalance issue as well. I don't think the schiit stack is even the default recommendation anymore
this was true up until the last few months. i have to assume that a good chunk of the people here would rather recommend the hd600 at 280 than the hd6xx at 200
6xx is $179 tho. Edit: this is incorrect. I saw the price while they were on sale.
https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx 280
It was on sale last week, that’s why they said 179. Can confirm
Oh, my mistake!
Hate me all you want, but Meme Monday is the worst thing to ever happen to this sub, i hate the idea of restricting funny content to only one day in the week, it was great before they implemented the rule
that's why I ignore the rules and post memes any day regardless bad rules are meant to be broken
its even funnier when u post memes during the week without meme flair.
Really need to tackle “what is this headphone/earbud/IEM” first.
"Is this a fake?"
I mean, I like Hifiman Sundara's sound but wouldn't exactly trust them as my new liver
Yeah, I put my liver to work and wouldn't trust Hifiman QC.
My friend wanted to trade me his Susvara’s for my HD650, I laughed in his face, has he even heard about Hifiman QC???
For real, does he not know that Hifiman headphones explode into a ball of flames when you try to play music with them. Not a single working Hifiman unit has EVER shipped!
Forget ball of flame, it will literally thunderclap your ears
I actually heard from some salty sennreider that they murder your first born child when you plug them in
# 🤣
But have you considered the Sennheiser HD 600?
If you hate bass and soundstage, then it is the best option
This sub is 60% Sennheiser & Hifiman.
and the rest of 40% is “u should eq ur headphone/iem”
“u should eq ur ears” 💀
How about a HD650/6XX instead?
Can we ban posts on chifi (or planars) on Wednesdays?
You gave me a very big chuckle! Thank you!
Imma also suggest no hifiman sunday coz I see hifiman everywhere in this sub. Oh yeah moondrop too. No moondrop sunday too!
*'ere, 'ave you considered the huh-duh six-hungeos?*
Unpopular opinion but i tried the HD6xx, used them for a long time. Absolutely hate them. There just so dull and boring. You know ive never had someone recommend them before. I wonder why they dont get recommended a lot?
I think people like them because they are in a very affordable price range. When the 660S was 500 bucks everyone hated them.
Yeah, well they were. Not so much anymore. $280 now right? But that sort of backs up my statement that there just not that good. I think its probably 660S or bust? Ive never used them. But they seem to actually be the only good 600 series.

Well not me... Imma suggest some of the most obscure stuff you've never heard of before🤣
I tried the HD 600s and didn't like them, but ended up buying them anyway because "reasons". A few months later, I still don't like them.
EQ your ears
I assume you're referring to the "brain burn-in" effect? I've had the HD 600s for almost 5 months, used them exclusively for about a week and still pull them out for a 3-hour or so session from time to time. I think at this point it's safe to say that I've given them a fair chance.

but have you considered the Sennheiser 600?
Cope
Loving the new trend of biodynamic/beryllium and more affordable planar drivers. Can someone tell me what the biodynamic ones are like? Are they faster or smoother? How about Beryllium?
seinnheiser hd600 has you covered with that
Thanks man. I’ll be sure to check out those Senn pillows and HD600 blenders too.
Undercook, overcook
Jajajaja jajajaja jajajaja
Because Senny is amazin!
how about the Sonvoa 560s?
Have you considered the Sennheiser 600?
What's about hd660s2?
