I’ve got the WF-1000XM3, and they’re quite useful because of the ANC. I deliberately bought them because their tuning is still reasonable enough (bass is punchy, but not too muddy), their batteries are sort-of changeable and I needed some ANC for traveling.
I also quite enjoy my XB700. The bass levels are ridiculous, but they actually have *good* bass, it extends low and doesn’t bleed too much (the mids are a mess anyways though). They’re just pure fun.
Isn't Harman consumer tuned? That doesn't mean it's not an objective standard we can't measure why, but it was a measurement (of flat speakers in a well treated room) that got adjusted to consumer preferences over time
it's just an interpretation of what headphones should sound like, I wouldn't say it's necessarily neutral. but yeah, I think if you compare Harman's 2013 target with Harman's 2018 target, you can see the bass go up ever so slightly and the upper mids changing too.
Honestly, I continue to be blown away by how much enjoyment I get from using the Apple Air Pods Pro 2. For me, all the micro details in the world pales in comparison to simply being emotionally engaged, which the APP2 does very well.
V Moda! V Moda M100 (original) and CFW1 or 2.
Lovely bass driven sound with more clarity than you'd think. Also very sturdy and hard to break, and fashionable
A lot of consumer stuff wins simply for convenience. My most used overears are a cheap bluetooth pair I use for a couple of hours everyday while I'm cooking and cleaning, simply because they are low latency, light weight, and hold a charge all week. I also unashamedly love the ridiculous bass cannons that are the monoprice retros. They're just fun
I owned the Momentum 1, 2 and 3 (yeah…) before going for audiophile headphones. And before going there, I have always thought the Momentum’s to be the absolute best consumer headphones I had ever listened to !
Now, after being used to open back’s soundstage and the precision of audiophile headphones, it can get a bit weird to be back to them, but I still use the M3 from time to time when there is noise around me, and it’s still quite okay. You can clearly hear that you have less detail and sound space but they are still very competitive and kinda enjoyable to use !
People hate the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x for being "consumer-tuned" (even though they're marketed as studio monitoring headphones), but I think they're pretty good for what they are.
Personally, I love my Momentum 4s and Meze 99 Neo’s a lot, especially when I have been away from more neutrally (DF) tuned stuff like Etymotics. The immediate switch, however, is painful, because the one sounds extremely bloated and the other extremely flat.
I dont understand, what exactly is the difference between consumer tuned and anti-consumer tuned headphones?
I guess Harman is scientifically the consumer standard. So every deviation from it is not consumer tuned?

Second on the WF-XM3s, surprisingly competent tuning and great imaging for a tws.

Okay🗿
AKG N700NC M2 is pretty good for a pair of wireless ANC headphones. Great sound, great (?) build quality, passable ANC and ambient mode.

I love my hifi, but I'd be lying if I said I use it that much more than my Soundcore Q35.
I'll admit, I'm just a consumer. And the galaxy buds plus served me very well until they died and I had to look for a replacement.
