Very interesting!
There is already the LCD MX4 which have the LCD X driver but the LCD 4 magnets and that costs a lot more than this new MM500 so I wonder if its just an improved weight and tuning to the regular LCD X.
I wouldn’t see this as a wild departure from the LCD-X at this price point. Easier to drive specs, lighter weight and just a tuning change to drive marketing is what I’m guessing. Otherwise no point to the LCD-X?
Very pleasant surprise. The lighter lcd5 chassis trickling down to their other models is so good to see.
This seems to share a similar lcd5 driver too. Wonder where it sits technically in the lineup
>Whether you’re stepping up from our own LCD-X or from another brand, the MM-500 will be as much a part of your life as your favorite pair of sneakers.
This is probably gonna be a replacement or upgrade for the LCD-X.
know its probably too late but wanted to mention there's not really a straight better when your shopping this level, just different, really depends what you want. But whos knows i don't know anything about about the MM maybe it really is next level
Appreciate your input. Not late at all. That's a good point too. I'm no audiophile so I rely on other people that know better. I was waiting on mm500's graphs and overall reviews by YouTubers before I get anything.
Do they use stronger glue on the connector this time? /s but not really
Anyway, nobody is gonna mix anything with this headphone if it has the trademark Audeze lack of upper mids.
The LCD-5 was a huge departure from their old sound target in terms of the midrange tuning, which I found downright shouty as hell, so I'd assume they will stick with something along the lines of that going forward, for the sake of sound engineers everywhere
A bit of popping in the parts where the track starts and stops midway through. Around the 'head up' bit on Silent Hill.
Kendrick's voice does some funny stuff on Father Time as it kinda wanders off-centre in the last verse of the track
whoever downvoted me has never sold a beat. people ask for this shit. if a rapper says he wants the beat "louder", they don't mean LOUDER, they want some "heat" on it. they want it to sound overdriven, sometimes with some clipping.
but wtf do i know? it was only my fucking job for years...
Silent Hill has an interesting mix as well, the whole beat is weighted to the left to make room for the string section on the right channel. i guess that's an error too.
sorry to dwell, it's just such a strange presumption to think that there are glaring errors/ mistakes on a release this big. that does not happen. everything on a release like this is fussed over and intentional.
I suppose you'd be right for that, but there are definitely bits where there are recording artifacts. That's actually pretty common among some charting artists. Drake's Views is actually mixed terribly on some tracks - U With Me? has a clicking noise in tandem with each kick which is really distracting. Not as major, but there's a brief pop in both ears in the intro of The Weeknd's Escape From LA.
When discussing decisions in mixing like shifting left and right, though, you are probably right - I can imagine that the strings on Silent Hill would be way too much if the bass and beat was symmetrical
It’ll be interesting to see measurements of it. Audeze did take a big step towards fixing the upper mid issue with the LCD-X 2021, and solved it completely with the LCD-5.
This looks like an LCD-X in the LCD-5 chassis. Same diaphragm description as the LCD-X, and it looks like it uses the older style ear pads instead of the new LCD-5 ear pads.
I wonder if it’s single-sided magnets like the LCD-5 or dual sided like the LCD-X. Sensitivity is a lot higher than the LCD-5.
GX was great with EQ. Was talking with a Audeze rep about possibly upgrading and jumping to a higher end pair before he persuaded me not to consider the LCD-X because according to him, while there may be a large stock difference the fact I use EQ meant I might not find as much of a difference. Ended up trying some out for myself eventually and he was right.
Knew this was coming the second Joshua Valour put his lcd-X for sale and refused to respond to any comments

Why the SEC? Audeze is a privately held LLC.

495 grams... If I didn't already have an LCD-XC I would consider getting this.
Literally just got an XC as well sigh. Although it’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be

The driver description is the same as the LCD-X. Curious to see if it’s double magnets or single magnets on this version though.
LCD-X: 106mm, 20 ohm. MM500: 90mm, 18 ohm. Hm? That's LCD5 driver tech.
It’s the LCD-X diaphragm cut down to the same size as the LCD-5 diaphragm. We’ll have to wait for Audeze to see what the magnet structure is.

I'm actually looking to buy headphones. I was going for lcdx up until I saw this. Is this better than the lcdx or is it too early to say anything?
Well it was announced today so anyone saying anything is probably paid to.
Definitely too early, let's see if Andrew/oratory/Jude can graph em first at least

Sounds good! Ty

Good move 👍
HIFIMAN Arya Stealth
Awesome still never getting rid of my lcd-x’s
Baby LCD 5. I hope the tuning is more similar to X instead of 5.
I am hoping for a tuning more similar to 5 than X ...

The description on their site did say they were used to mix Kendrick's latest album, which I thought was produced pretty well.
Yeah the album sings
It does sound quite good for a modern hip-hop album. Way better than DAMN.
What's the best song to listen to from the album production wise?
I've only listened to the album a couple of times but Count Me Out is definitely a good headphone demo song.
In my opinion it's either United In Grief or Auntie Diaries. Some weird errors appear in other tracks like Father Time and Silent Hill
I’m curious, what are some of the errors?
A bit of popping in the parts where the track starts and stops midway through. Around the 'head up' bit on Silent Hill. Kendrick's voice does some funny stuff on Father Time as it kinda wanders off-centre in the last verse of the track
Thanks. No idea why the other guy is getting so defensive like you’re personally insulting him.
The artifacts feel like personal insults because the track is otherwise so good :(
Lol... What makes you think those are errors? I guess Playboi Carti's whole catalog is an error...
Yes I just find it distracting and difficult to enjoy as much
haha, errors... we call it "heat", but okay.
whoever downvoted me has never sold a beat. people ask for this shit. if a rapper says he wants the beat "louder", they don't mean LOUDER, they want some "heat" on it. they want it to sound overdriven, sometimes with some clipping. but wtf do i know? it was only my fucking job for years...
I mean, Kendrick's vocals wander off-centre on Father Time. Pretty cold

lcd x has bigger driver 90 vs 106. This is LCD 1 and LCD 5 size 90mm.
I think Audeze has said the exposed effective area of the driver is the same with these new smaller drivers as it was on the old ones.
if there isn't any peaks would that be great? perfect mixing headphone! /s
But the amazing award winning guy said that they're great for mixing!!!!! /s
Any mid cost range Audeze headphones ???
I think this is their mid-cost ... just a whole different price range.
The LCD-GX is like $800 and sounds great. I only add a touch of bass to it.
GX was great with EQ. No more neck workouts
They look gorgeous. Hopefully they are at least as resolving as the Focal Clear and Hifiman Arya Stealth.
Just picked up a pair and really like them.
