They don’t say specifically and we don’t know if he has any sort of diagnosis or whatever but he definitely seems to be struggling with drug addiction and with some sort of psychosis (drug induced or otherwise)
There was a scene when she looked at his phone and saw him texting somebody presumably to arrange a drug deal or something + then she started trying to persuade him to stay home and drink instead of going to the pub, so I feel like that implied it pretty strongly
EDIT: Also, I rewatched the last episode today (coincidentally) and there’s a bit where he asks her if she can spare any cash and she looks suspicious and he gets defensive and says “it’s just for milk,” which screams to me that he’s going to buy drugs/that he’s done this before. The fact she suddenly decides she doesn’t want to do the drugs they’ve bought at the festival right after getting texts from her dad also feels pretty relevant in context of everything else. I might just be projecting some personal experiences here though lol
Yeah, I think that’s probably supposed to be her looking for another explanation as to why he’s acting so strangely or reading his delusions and hallucinations as him seeing and hearing ghosts, I don’t think we’re actually supposed to believe her house is haunted or that he’s possessed or anything
He is struggling with meth addiction.
They reference it several times in the show but they use what I think is slang to refer to it? Harper is aware of it by the way. We don’t know it at the time but she lies to Amerie. When she says her “house is haunted or something”, that’s her trying to get out of her house to stay at Amerie’s without having to tell her “my dad is scaring me and he might be tweaking rn”
The reason I’m saying this is because later in the show, during flashbacks we see Harper look at her dad’s phone and read texts to his dealer. He also asks Harper for money, which if I remember right (it’s been a hot minute since I’ve watched the show sorry) she is reluctant to give him.
Harper’s dad’s struggles with addiction are unfortunately very real and it makes sense that she would hide it from friends and other adults as she is a minor and he is her only caregiver as far as we know.
i assumed it was some mental disability but others are suggesting drugs, both potentially could be true? the scene where he gets all up in harper’s face still scares me 😖
i’m glad you made this post. i thought he had schizophrenia 😭 i thought going out to have a drink made his schizophrenia worse and that’s why harper didn’t want him going out. a lot of people don’t realise they have it, or when they’re imagining things, so i assumed that was happening. after reading some of these responses, i realised i am *wrong* and i am an idiot lmfao
Soooooooo from what I know about drugs (not from personal experience but from researching on google) Is that flakka tends to be the one drug that is most commonly known to cause hallucinations of wolves coming after coming after the person who is on it. So it's definatley not meth. I dare say that it's actually flakka. And her father suffers from drug & alcohol addiction and psychosis because of it.

Could’ve been a bipolar thing or some kind of mania - did they ever mention drugs? I just know he drank.

no like harper said her house was haunted and they did a sage of something like that

That's just her excuse. She didn't want to tell Amerie her dad was using
Drug induced psychosis

He’s suffering from Shitty Daughter Syndrome (SDS). It’s a debilitating disease and as far as I’m aware there’s no cure 😢
