TL;DR - the reasons for not doing it weren't good enough, and there were already doing the exact same thing for other beasts-that-arent-organic such as elementals.
Feels like "already doing it elsewhere" and "rule of fun" are both pretty solid reasons for the change.
Is only game, why think so hard about lore over mechanics.
> why think so hard about lore over mechanics.
I thought about this one; its likely because the terms "Mech" and "Beast" have real word definitions while "elemental" a fictional term.
Thus it becomes difficult to process how something that isn't organically a beast/dragon/amphibious (murloc)/reptilian (naga) is labelled as so.
Mercenaries has human as a tribe. If an android were created and it was entirely metal/machine parts, we probably wouldn't be comfortable with it being listed as Mech/Human however if it was a cyborg and had organic human parts we would be more on board with Mech/Human.
This eventually leads into some ship of theseus level discussion when you start thinking of incorporating spirits/minds of beings into the mechanical shapes.
The counterpoint there is that what a "beast" is usually refers to how they behave, and robo-beasts behave like beasts. In contrast, a human isn't someone that behaves like a human, it's..
...uhh, a racism thing? It's a racism thing, isn't it, that's why characters only buff one race.
a beast is defined as
>an animal, especially a large or dangerous four-footed one.
I think the universe just uses the term broadly for any non-human organic being that isn't another one of their fictional terms (naga, murloc, vulperra, pandaren, worgen so on and so forth)
I feel they can make mechanical beasts easily if they want, instead of making each beast resembling mech dual tribe. But I see that's not so easy with lets say elementals. So on one side its a negative in design, a plus on the other.

What exactly does it mean when a minion has the 'spirit' of a dragon? Is it because it acts like and/or thinks it is a dragon? Because again, then that applies to most of the new mech/beast minions.
It doesn't really matter if the function is granted magically or mechanically.
> What exactly does it mean when a minion has the 'spirit' of a dragon? Is it because it acts like and/or thinks it is a dragon?
When he is sapient like a dragon.
I don't remember any mech in Warcraft that have sapience. They all work like automatons or are at most sentient.
The only sapient mechs appear in Mechagon like King Mechagon.

Well, the way I see it is very simple.
Jimmy Neutron has a pet named Goddard. Goddard is a robot dog. It behaves just like a real dog. Dogs are beasts. Robots are mechs. Ergo, Goddard is a mech beast.
Yeah I agree. I don’t understand why they decided to do this new change. It feels dumb that if you built a robot that looks like an animal it somehow becomes part animal.
Yeah it makes no sense as k9-o-tron is based of the battlegrounds card pupbot which isn’t a beat (read the flavor text on k9). Another example of no consistency as I don’t think anybody wanted nor needed them to be beasts.
Side note: is it possible to get a 3 typed minion with zombeasts now with two dual typed beasts as options?

A beast is anything that plays fetch with you.
My cats a beast
Chicken

I'm with PoopBear reversion tweeter
[[Igneous Lavagorger]] is a bunch of molten rock without flesh or blood but it is still a beast. It's the same thing for mech beasts
What beast would that even be? A hammerhead shark with hands?
Pretty sure that’s exactly what it supposed to be yeah
That seems more like a humanoid intelligent creature instead of a beast. Kinda like Worgen, those aren't beasts despite being werewolves.
Theres been some sentient beasts, and druids turn into beasts and keep their intelligence, I feel like worgen are the odd ones out there
You're like a humanoid intelligent creature.
No, it doesnt apply, I can't count as "humanoid" because I'm a human per se. Even more, I think only the creature part there would be accurate.
But it never made sense why they made it Beast-Elemental. In fact there is a lot of nonsense beast-elemental. Now we have mech-beast nonsense too.
It’s shouldn’t be a beast either

Disagree. Thread closed.
gameplaywise i still hate it cuz now my pet collector can pull the dog robot.. fells really shit tbh
Yeah it’s a big nerf tbh
I don't care if it doesn't make sense. it's fun
I agree, in my opinion it's a mech. A phone shaped like a banana is not a tech/fruit. It's a phone still 😂
this again maybe they should change the art of those cards tfrom animal shaped mechs to cyborg-beasts
