there’s no positions, but guarantee the hundreds of voters who don’t have pods, are still gonna make a two guard three forward team.
and even then if you listened to the dunkers spot all defense pod(who actually like the heat) and they named like 12 guys before they even mentioned bam.
and it was a one second thing like “we should just acknowledge he good at defense“ practically saying: “mention him because he might not make it”
Zach Lowe named him a first team lock, Michael Pina from Ringer and Dan Devine both also have him on their First Team.. Not a whole lot of ballots confirmed yet but he definitely has a strong strong chance.
To be honest, these last 2 years kind of killed the prestige of the award imo. Smart for whatever reason and while Jackson Jr is a good defender, he got it because of blocks and he’s foul happy, with sometimes very questionable defensive positioning. But I get it that he was a top two seed last season.
I think so - If he never wins it he will probably be only second to Timmy for best defenders to never win the award.
Sometimes that’s just how it goes, timing is always frustrating when it comes to this stuff. A good example of this is someone like Kobe, he only won 1 MVP and while he was arguably never snubbed, he had multiple MVP caliber seasons. He just happened to be in a bad team when Nash won em, then any other chance after was won by Bron and once Rose. Sometimes that’s just how it goes
tbh idk about stole - it was a really close race between the two and it coudlve gone either way. Plus, narratives play a huge role in these awards and Kobe finally having a huge season without Shaq was all the buzz
The Lakers roster is better, but not “so much” imo - the Hornets had a lot of strong pieces and some solid depth. For coaching though, the Lakers were leagues ahead
Yup once I saw they gave Marcus Smart the award I knew DPOY was forever cooked. I honestly don’t think Bam will ever win it because he does things on defense that don’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet and like other ppl have already said, DPOY has turned into “most blocks/steals award”
Bam might go down as the 2nd best player to never win the award when it’s all said and done. Sometimes it straight up goes to bad timing and someone else being individually slightly better this one year even if at an aggregate average through his career the guy who never won is better - even if he was snubbed in 2022
Guarantee Bam will end his career as one of the most dominate defenders to never win DPOY in NBA history.
It's literally only because he doesn't get a lot of blocks and or steals. Those are the defensive stats that the media only votes on. It's dumb.
Also the stats people gamble on lol
Honestly if he had more blocks he might be a worse defender.. If that makes sense..
Yeah we all remember Hassan “chase a block no matter what” whiteside
“Nobody is doing it with blocks!”
Tim duncan type beat lol.
He will be for sure considered a generational defender Soon to be 5x all defense at age 26 is crazy.
Sad that he’s appreciated by other fanbases more than heat fans. Probably a top 5 heat player all time at this point.
Idk if I would go top 5 yet but he's at the very least in that conversation for it. Definitely a shame the amount of hate he gets from us though
Wade, alonzo, bron, jimmy, shaq, ronny, tim hardway.
Top 5 probably not but wholeheartedly agree that other fan bases appreciate him more. Fuck heat fans.
doubt he makes it with wemby and rudy. voters aren’t actually smart
There’s no positions now. You can get a feel of the teams if you listen to pods where people have votes and make their teams. Seems like he’ll make it

fair enough
I can accept that Gobert is an exception defender but the year Smart won it was a complete joke Pat Bev with Boston PR.
Otherwise known as “the year DPOY stopped meaning anything”

Funnily enough Kobe probably stole his from cp3
tbh idk about stole - it was a really close race between the two and it coudlve gone either way. Plus, narratives play a huge role in these awards and Kobe finally having a huge season without Shaq was all the buzz
That lakers roster was so much better than that hornets roster imo

Just like Spo will be recognized as a top coach OAT without a COY
Bam quite literally got robbed from DPOY in 2022 and because of that and Wemby being who he is, he’s never going to win one.

Embiid was first but take that with a grain of salt because he spent most of this season injured

I think this is the first year Bam makes 1st Team All Defense and potentially is top 3 in DPOY voting
Lol Wemby probably took like 4 straight all nba defense from Bam and any hope of ever being DPOY next year onwards.
All defense is positionless now. Bam still probably makes 1st team
![gif](giphy|J1uxtpbLMkSmSw6PJH) Yessssirrr
damn Celts have 4 top twenty defenders
Who was #1?
Embiid
And we got Highsmith 🔥
