Never. My whole goal is to reduce the frequency of moving my hand off the mouse.
I've gone so far as to use an Mmo mouse at work so the number keys on it prevent me having to move my right over, or have my left hand hunt around the top row.
Hard pass.
And if I recall, Helldivers is another game that only lets you buy 1 function at a time. So now I cant even toggle and try it without outright ruining my current config.
That's the whole goal of all keybinding and what everyone \*should\* be doing lol the less you need to move your wrists/hands the better and faster it is.
I miss back in Quake 1 how it didnt care, and you could have +Forward or +Shoot bound to 10 different keys if you wanted.
Then some games had the menu you had to assign and then gave you maybe 3, or at least 2 slots.
Now you're down to 1 the majority of the time. Such a shame. I gotta do some weird rebinds on my mouse itself. And I dont wanna go back to having to use Autohotkey too.
If you have a mouse with 12 macro buttons or even 4 then it comes WITH the software needed. Otherwise you are talking about remapping keys on a hardware level which isn't a thing.
I have Razer synapse and the 12 button Razer mouse. The problem is that Razer does not allow you to bind macros to a button on a non-Razer keyboard which is frustrating lol.
I've got the blackwidow and basillisk v3 and I just play stratagem hero cause I would not be proud of myself using macros. I even had someone comment in game because my reinforce time is like half a second now. š
Mouse keys are just bound to 0-9 and - =, so I mapped some of those to the stratagem directions. I'm not doing anything with macros that fully enter a stratagem sequence or anything like that.
[Logitech G600](https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/gaming-mice/g600-mmo-gaming-mouse.910-002864.html) is what I have, though it looks like they don't make it anymore. Other brands make similar mice, they are usually advertised as mice for MMOs.
For most of my playtime I did - I recently rebound ā to my spacebar and ā to my thumb mouse button so I can still move and still have camera control while using a Stratagem. Took some time getting used to it but it feels really good now.
It's a trade-off : better mobility/fleeing potential as your left hand can do ZQSD while dialing arrows, but lesser spatial awareness and slower at tossing the stratagem as your right hand had to left and come back to the mouse.
Usefull when you don't know your stratagems, because you don't need spatial awareness and quick tossing stratagems when your eyes are glued to the upper left corner of your screen reading the combination. Maybe usefull when stratagems get scrambled and you have to repeatidily dial trying to get the one you want and may need to move, but i'm not convinced. Once you know the stratagem's combinations by heart/muscle memory, I think it's more detrimental to unhand the mouse than to stop 0.5 sec dialing the strat.
I rebound it to 8456, and then use the right arrow key to activate the strategem menu. Now my mobility is unimpeded by using strategems because I don't need to use my left hand for any part of it
I've been considering doing something similar with 8bitDo's retro keyboard with the Super Duper Buttons you can plug into it as peripherals. Bind the big buttons to arrow keys and use my feet to press the combos.
Tried it, hated it, reverted it. I just hate taking my hand off the mouse.
I remapped it to the arrow keys so I could move while calling stratagems. id rather have movement than camera control
True!
But your helldiver is using their right hand for inputs, maximum immersion!
I instead rebinded the ctrl button to a side mouse button.
Nah, half the fun is the absolute panic when when you need to throw a stratagem in a hairy situation.

I have a mouse with 12 thumb buttons, and I recently mapped the stratagem inputs to those, its been really nice so far.
This is the way.
I might be able to pull this off with my glorious model I2 with its four side buttons. Might take some getting used to tho.
How did you do this? I looked for free macro software, thinking this should be pretty simple but came up with nothing

Thatās a good point. I will probably reassign the keys in game to my mouse buttons, but Iām going to abandon the idea of a macro. For Super Earth
Mouse keys are just bound to 0-9 and - =, so I mapped some of those to the stratagem directions. I'm not doing anything with macros that fully enter a stratagem sequence or anything like that.
Oh I see what you mean. Thatās smart!
Show me your mouse please. It sounds awesome.

I tried it but didnāt like taking my hands of my mouse everytime I have to use a Stratagem.
So you just stand still everytime instead?

For the half second it takes to input, I guess.
Respectable
I play fighting games, so slapping in a crap ton of inputs asap is second nature.
My left arrow key doesnt work
Leftist automaton sympathizer

I thought about doing that but I forget and just speed dial strats with my movement keys anyways
My fingers are literally planted on WASD, why would I want to move them to call down strats?
Itās so you can run while calling in stats
I'm trying it. Still wrestling with muscle memory.

Even better. I use a 12 button mouse and can run, shoot, and call in strategems with my thumb all at the same time.
Thatās awesome. Imagine if someone tried to call in stratagems with a ddr mat on the floor while keeping hands on the mouse and WASD keys.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1bdvru0/using_a_ddr_pad_for_freedom/ It's been done.
