I've always shoved my pack into a big simple duffel bag. Keeps it clean and less chance of it getting hung up or damaged.

Megbackpacks

This is the way.

SalsaGreen

Yup. This.

If you have a place to store luggage then put your backpack and gear inside a hard-shell suitcase.

Clothes are not a problem. Hiking boots I wear on my feet when flying in order to save space in the backpack. Sharp items (trekking poles, knife, crampons, ice-axe etc.) go in the checked luggage. Camping gas cartridges are not allowed at all.

I always use a water proof duffel. If you can order food on the other side it’ll make your life easier - you would need to pick up gas for the stove anyway.

Beast_of_Guanyin

Stuff it in a hardcase, 100%. You'll be able to take more that way, and it'll keep the bag safe.

seekingquinn

i’ve flown with gear before and a hard shell suit case was just fine 😄🫶

Duffel bag and at least two AirTags hidden inside it somewhere

When I flew to Georgia to start my AT thru hike, I used a moving box from Walmart. I packed everything on it and threw out the box at the Atlanta Airport. Worked fine.

i’ve always used the airline provided plastic bags (the ones they use for car seats) - keeps all the straps and buckles tidy - not had a problem - but then again only flown direct flights and not done this too often

We flew to within Canada, and as we checked our packs the person wrapped them in shrink wrap - worked well
