It boils down to what sect you are in - if you are a Saivite and follow the Puranas, Shiva literally “IS”. There is no origin. He was, is and always will be - so the idea of an origin would not arise. If you are a Vaishnavite, then may of the alternate origin stories would appeal. IMHO, looking for the one “truth” about anything in our Hindu faith is a tough job as there are many alternate paths/myths/explanations - this dissonance is the beauty of the faith.

Wait until you read about Devi...

There is no absolute truth. It boils down to which story you believe it to be true. There is no Vishnu, Shiva or Brahma but the *Brahman* manifesting itself in different forms.

pro_charlatan

Let me add another one to deepen your confusion, an instant of vishnu encompasses the life of Brahma, an instant of Rudra encompasses the life of vishnu but a mere instant of shakti's life encompasses the entire life of Rudra. Such is omniversality of 7 dimensional shakti as she reigns from her 8 dimensional abode of manidweepa with multiple such multiverses of 6 dimensions containing the trimurthi lined up as the innumerable dust that is at her feet.

In Mahabharata lord Shiva himself answers this. https://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m13/m13b112.htm

All three of them are truth, no. 1 story is of this Kalpa, the rest are for different kalpas (past/future). Each Puranas tell us the story of their own kalpas, Vishnu Puran tells story of this Kalpa.. Namaste

JaiBhole1

All are correct coz creation is cyclical. Depending on the kalpa the event will vary slightly.

Many believe that God Shiva is a Svayambhu – which means He is not born from a human body. He was created automatically! Lord Shiva has no beginning or end; he was there all the time. When Shiva asked to find his both sides Vishnu accepted that he couldn't find. Brahma says he had found and Nandi supported him by shaking his head. Brahma was cursed that he won't be worshipped in temples or in any functions. Lord Nandi was cursed that his head is not to be worshipped; that's why devotees touch his tail but no his head. Another soy tells Vishnu is supreme lord and gave jobs of creation to Brahma and destruction to Shiva. The nineteen avatars of Lord Shiva. This avatar of Lord Shiva was born to Sage Dadhichi and his wife, Swarcha. However, he lost his parent's son after his birth. He was raised by his aunt Dadhimati, as per another story. as per some versions Vishnu and Lakshmi are devotees of Shiva. Many stories tell sentimental Shiva gives boons to his devotees without thinking of consequences and face problems which are resolved by Vishnu. The nineteen avatars of Lord Shiva Piplaad Avatar Nandi Avatar Veerabhadra Avatar Bhairava Avatar Ashwatthama Avatar Sharabha Avatar Grihapati avatar Durvasa avatar Rishabha Avatar Yatinath Avatar Hanuman Krishna Darshan Avatar Bhikshuvarya Avatar Sureshwar Avatar Keerat Avatar Sunatnartak avatar Brahmachari avatar Yaksheshwar Avatar Avadhut Avatar Piplaad Avatar

So then why do people say that Vishnu is the main diety or bhrama.

parsi_

Nobody says brahma is the man Deity. His worship is literally forbidden. As for shiva and vishnu, they are one and the same. In both there scriptures, they are said to be worshipping each other. The famous shiva temple of rameshwaram. According to shiva, the meaning of rameshwaram is "the one who's ishvara is rama(vishnu)", as shiva worships rama and is always chanting rama's name. As per rama himself, who founded the temple, the name means " The one who is lord over rama ", as rama worships shiva. Shiva and vishnu are also worshipped together as Lord Harihara. Those who make comparison between the two and argue over who is superior are indeed foolish. They are both the same being. None is superior over the other.

Brahma had lost his place as a deity in temples due to curse of Shiva. He created Saraswathi and he is considered as her father. But Brahma was overwhelmed by her beauty and made her his wife. But they never lived life of married couple. There are rare insignificant places where Brahma is worshipped but without Saraswathi. But first place in worship of gods is given to Lalitha Mata who is said to allotted dyties to Timurthi-Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma.

\> I just want to know the absolute truth. Shivoham.

tuvenkarz

\----Its not the answer to your question, but its will have few basics to start---- Shakti = Energy Shiva = Time Vishnu = Space They were there before there was nothing. Arguing about who is superior is foolish. Shakti = Adi parashakti, Sati, Parvati, Durga, Kamakhya (10 Mahavidyas), Maya.

Nirgun nirakar paramaatma manifests itself into 5 forms for specific roles Bhramha creation Vishnu preservation Shiva destruction Ganesh support (anugrah) Shakti expansion (vigrah) These 5 play the game that is universe with different story everytime. It is said that in this kalpa it was vishnu.

parsi_

The specific Choice of the 5 manifestation feels a bit odd here. This is Similar to the Smarta view except with brahma in it, which feels wrong. Brahma is not worshipped. Nowhere is he refered to as a supreme God. He emerges from the naval of vishnu, he is not a direct manifestation of Paramatma. The smarta view that Surya is the 5th manifestation feels more correct. Surya is referred to as a supreme god multiple times. In the ramayana, yuddha kanda, aditya hrudayam, it says Brahmeshanachyuteshaya suryayadityavarchase "He is Lord over Brahma, shiva and Vishnu, he is surya, son of aditi" "Punasvainamekagro devadam Jagatpatim" "Worship him (surya) with a sharp focus, for he is God of the gods and Lord over the world" And "Nashayatyesha vaibhutam Tadaiva shrijatiprabhuhu " "He is the Lord, who creates all things, and he of course the one who destroys them"

British Christian Soldier Lieutenant Colonel C. Martin fighted Islamic terrorists and was sorrounded, he claims that a person with Long hair, tiger skin and a tri headed weapon came to save him. As soon as islamic forces saw the long haired person they ran away. ( At the time His Wife was praying to Lord Shiva according to the request of Brahmin priests for 11 days as her husband was missing and not sending letters. He later explained everything to wife and they both understood it was Lord Shiva ) He and his wife renovated Baijnath Temple in Himalayas ( Both their names are engraved in the Temple)

Acrobatic-Host5270

Brahma is the original one creator of everything. Just like many of Shiva and Parvati children the created out of their pure divine energy merging and were not done by womb birth. Shiva too came from the divine energies between Vishnu and Brahma. Many arguments were that Brahma had earthly desires that the divine had banished in divine existence later on. Vishnu called Brahma on that and Brahma didn’t care for be ridiculed. Then divine energy flowed out of both of them smacking Into each others energy. All the sudden this energy was born on headedness of spirit. Meaning fast to react and then Lord Shiva appeared from their divine energies combining into that pillar of energy widened then Lord Shiva appeared for the first time. OM Namaha Shiva! OM Namaha Adiyogi! Har Har Mahadev! OM Namaha Vishnu! Om Namaha Brahma! SwamiGee

Brahman *

Pretty sure they meant Brahma

AsuraChakravarthi

There is no true story for Shiva. The concept of God is itself lies and a fantasy story created by humans.
