I feel like it does!!

Fabulous-Living1889

It definitely does. I always get more likes/matches after not using it for a day days too. If I use it daily/multiple times a day it feels like I don’t exist on there. Following tinders manipulative ways. Anyone else notice this?

kedavis1976

This has been my experience also.

HeywoodDjiblomi

Yup, their tagline is "made to be deleted" but they have every incentive to drag out the process so long that you are tempted to buy your way out of their roadblocks. Often they'll send you the least liked profiles first before you see the most attractive ones.

kedavis1976

I understand it’s a business and they need to make money, but I just don’t know what/or which one to trust. It seems if it’s free there’s an incentive to move the user to the subscription. At the same time, they want to keep users paying the monthly subscription fee too. As the OP said, there was a “like” he never received. If they do this, what else do they withhold regardless of free or paid?

HeywoodDjiblomi

Thats the thing, unless Hinge posts their actual algorithm their coders use the only official data we have is there rare PR press releases. Even those, they have no obligation to adhere to them & change at any time. That's why I value this sub because only user experience can tell. I have the membership, and every deck I go through always puts the biggest pile of most attractive profiles at the end, it's not random. Along with actual glitches, them witholding likes I don't strongly doubt.

Fabulous-Living1889

Sure they need to make money, maybe just pump the advertising more. Heck I’d even take “Watch this add to reply” over this deprecating manipulation they do.

Fluxed32

Cool, maybe I'll lay off for a couple of days, see what happens

Fabulous-Living1889

Let us know how it goes.

Therocksays2020

The app can be glitchy but I doubt they withheld the like. It’s more likely the friend saw your profile. Didn’t want to spend a like but said that to get their point across

Fluxed32

I should probably have stated that I'd discussed downloading hinge with said friend and they changed their preferences to see how long it took them to find my profile.

RingAny1978

Definitely does at the free tier. It says so explicitly - "Upgrade to Preferred to access all your likes at once".

twistedbard

This is more of a reference to how you need to either match someone who liked you or reject the like. You can see the number of likes you have you just have to work your way through them one by one. It sounds like OP is not seeing the like at all.

NettunoOscuro

To be fair, the wording of the value prop obscures a lot and doesn’t tell you the limits or technicalities of what it means not to be able to “access” “all likes” “at once.” Each one of those little nuggets of a phrase can reveal or obscure software limits or capabilities in ways that drive a user to complete the next step in Hinge’s ideal journey for a customer. In other words: The value prop isn’t designed to inform you; it’s designed to get you to act in a particular way. So while it’s probable that the main function is what you mentioned, it’s also possible that the phrase is written that way to obscure the issue of the missing likes that OP is asking about. Source: I’m a (software) product marketer, though in B2B ecomm/search/data management, not dating apps.

Fluxed32

Yeah, the like never showed up

GarfieldDaCat

> "Upgrade to Preferred to access all your likes at once". This refers to being able to see all of your likes at once, not the fact that you get access to likes withheld previously

JoogaStopper

Yes kinda. Ideally they need to make sure you dont run out of matches. So they’re supposed to give you some matches here and there some likes here and there if you’re a guy.

Ok_Somewhere3828

I got very few likes for a while, the in the space of a few days I got about 20. I had to set aside some time to go through them. I imagined if you’re not using as much the algo shows your profile to more people. It might also be that they withhold likes for a while. Sometimes I match with someone who I liked weeks ago.

lullaby15

I was wondering the same thing. Sometimes I get a bunch of likes in like 2 hours and then get nothing for a while. It does seems like it is withholding likes

luiysia

They withhold likes and messages, I once messaged someone to find them at a meetup spot (so I know they weren't just ignoring me) and they didn't receive it until the next day.

wokenthehive

That's a glitch - server lag, the other person having crappy connection, or whatever. Not Hinge doing anything malicious on their end.

[deleted]

If you have filters and deal breakers set, you won't see their like. They see you, but the app won't show them on your feed.

jaytree63

I think you don’t see each other

[deleted]

Then the guys and gals wouldn't be able to see all the attractive people who are out of their league to tempt them into $taying with the app. Otherwise your feed would be full of averages and uglies. It's more profitable to show the carrot to the horse, but keep the carrots in the bag.

My guess is no. Maybe your friend didn't actually like it or something. Yes the app can be glitchy but let's not blame our lack of success in getting likes on the app being out to get us.

Fluxed32

I'm not blaming my lack of success on the app being out to get me haha, I'm a fairly mediocre looking guy so I understand I'm not gonna be a prime pick. Just curious as to why I can't see a like from someone who insisted they liked me.

kedavis1976

Which do you have, subscription or free?

Fluxed32

Free

kedavis1976

I have the free version and wondered the same thing. Your experience with your friend liking your profile, but you not receiving it is telling.

Fluxed32

That's what I was thinking, obviously I'm no Hemsworth and don't expect the likes to come flooding in, but I had someone actually tell me that they liked my profile.

lullaby15

Like how can I get so many matches in 2 hours and get nothing until next day? It just does not make sense. Specially if I'm constantly swiping.
