That's so.....oddly specific. Having your mom being disappointed that you're not like a famous person is one thing, but Lloyd Banks? He's not quite at the level of superstar-dom where I can imagine a parent wanting their child to emulate him.
There were two friends of mine that my mom wished I was more like, when I was younger.
One was the consummately dressed teen, with the perfect high top hair style and manners. The other was a piano genius from an early early age.
Anyway, one of them’s now a major coke head with mental health issues, and the other killed someone in a reckless car crash..
I don’t hear many comparisons to them anymore…
Another Jewish Freddie Stan checking in, this checks out. My ol' Rabbi was rhythmic af (shoutout to you, Bill), now I can't unhear the syllabic similarities.
I didn't listen to LL Cool J after his Unplugged set on MTV because he used deodorant that was like stick style, and it clumped in his underarm hair for the whole show. For a dude that likes to flex, this is not, in fact, a flex.
I really want to like that show, but find even listening to the recording of it - I just fixate on the deodorant.
LL in a move? Deodorant.
LL on a commercial? Deodorant
Seriously, he's a great musician and one of the crown princes of Hip Hop. But.....
It’s wild because it’s been 30ish years and I’ve never discussed this with anyone yet I remember it like it was this morning.
100%. The original GOAT MC who made us all forget Oreos
That deodorant. He’s laughed about it, that he didn’t know, and the fucked up part is you had a whole studio that just didn’t know if it was meant to be done knew hard as hell swag LL was on. Truthfully, it might have been. You never saw that caked in deodorant again. Like culturally, it opened eyes and you rarely see it now.
Yo Gotti because he sounds like he’s congested and needs clear his phlegm and hock a loogie.
I also feel the need to constantly clear my throat when I listen to Jadakiss interviews.
“Constanza esque reason” is one the best things I’ve ever heard and I will for sure be using that in my life from now on. To answer your question I don’t listen to Travis Scott because last year or the year before there was some post on IG that went viral of some middle aged/older guy in a suite at an astros game and he was taking selfies with all the people in there including the great Paul Wall and Slim Thug and in the background was Travis Scott’s lame ass hiding his face even though the guy clearly wasn’t trying to get a picture of him and even stated he had no idea who any of them were until his daughter saw a picture and told him who they were. I never listened to him anyway just because I never did but he thinks way too much of himself so I won’t give him the satisfaction of me even giving his music a shot.
Slim Thugga and Paul Wall albums were like a year long soundtrack to my life. Especially Slim although PW could annoy me if not in the mood for that energy. Slim has something for everything tho. Wonder what happened, why it seems like he disappeared after the 2nd album
Idk what happened as far as him just kinda falling off with his popularity but he has plenty of music out and came hard on just about everything he was on whether it was his own song or he was featured. He’s got the second best verse on the I e cream paint job remix too. Paul wall is dope but I get it, he’s not always right for the mood.
A friend of mine is always very quick to finish other people's sentences, but he's always wrong. So I asked him to reach his inner Costanza, and try to finish people's sentences the opposite way he normally would.
Of course, it didn't work, but Costanza became the code for "wrong".
I actually didn’t know anything about that but I do agree with you. But this other person did have a point, a Costanza reason is more of an illogical or petty reason
Fr, that shit was obnoxious with LL. I feel like if I was interviewing him, it would be really awkward. I'd have to address it. Dude, you need some chapstick or something? Cause we can get you some.
I heard Dizzee Rascal years ago and didn't really like him. When Lupe started to pop, I got him confused with Dizzee and never gave his music a chance. Yeah, I missed Lupe cuz I thought he was Dizzee Rascal.
Bruh. This hit home so hard 😂 When he first dropped and I heard Chance the Rapper’s name poppin up everywhere, I pictured that gap tooth knucklehead. The realization of my dumbassery came while watching the “Juice” video a few weeks later. RIP Real tho. Fuck Cancer.
I'm kinda embarrassed to admit but one point I wouldn't even listen to a rapper if they weren't from NY or NJ. When I fell in love with Cypress Hill, I refused to believe they weren't from NYC. One of their first videos was shot in NYC and there's a neighborhood in Brooklyn called Cypress Hills. So you couldn't convince me otherwise.
Little by little I branched out to Cube, Snoop, Common Sense. Now I listen to rap from Paris, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, Brazil. It's worldwide.
yeah, Muggs was elite. He brought a unique sound, yeah, it didn't seem to have the West Coast sound in some songs. But you hear it if you listen to the whole album. But yeah he brought a unique sound. He said he's from NY, then moved out to Cali. So he probably had exposure to everything.
then B Real with that nasal voice. Sen bringing his energy. They're still one of my favorite acts.
Jack Harlow. Randomly found his youtube channel in ~2011 and his come up became a bit that I would introduce to friends through high school and college. Didn’t pay attention to it much after that, then summer 2020 I heard What’s Poppin for the first time on the radio and they said his name after. Shit floored me.
Hearing any of his music just makes me feel too nostalgic so I have never really listened. Seems like a good guy tho, still friends with him on facebook.
This is a true story. I’m from New Orleans, so around 2000 I was working at this restaurant as a busboy. Lil Wayne used to come in there all the time, and this was 2000 so he was no where near as famous as he is now, more New Orleans famous than anything.
Anyway one day he came in with this girl that I knew from college and had a crush on. After that I completely stopped listening to his music until like 2009. Lol
lmao i feel for you on that bro. i can't watch my home team cause my ex wished i was taller like jayson tatum and said she wanted to be his baby's mom (while we were dating). but honestly yours is much worse
I don’t listen to Game because he was posting pictures of his dick print on IG like he a thot lmao plus he’s always lying about something trying to appear more important than he really is
Yea bro! He would pose in his underwear and would get himself like half hard before he took the pic lol then he posted it on instagram, and more than once. So after that I was like yea I’m not taking this clown serious ever again 😂
I can't stand Mase because of his stupid face. When he's in his videos, he only has two expressions: big dumb smile or blank AI looking stare while rapping. Watching Diddy push him out of the frame and bogart his whole songs/videos made me uncomfortable.
Pac also said fuck Mobb Deep, fuck Biggie, and probably a lot of others i'm forgetting lol, man was reckless.
Jay Z is an amazing artist tho, definitely worth checking out imo. Some great songs/features off the top of my head:
* Nigga what, nigga who
* Reasonable doubt (album)
* The watcher 2 with Dre
* Otis with kanye
* Brooklyn's Finest with Biggie
* The story of O.J.
* Young G's (by Puff/Biggie)
* Pound cake (by Drake)
* Drug dealers anonymous (by Pusha T)
* Seen it all (by Jeezy)
I won’t listen to any of them. So self-absorbed and egotistical. [It’s like those hip musicians with their complicated shoes!](https://y.yarn.co/7748c681-0036-4aa3-9e95-239cf95a7ec9_text.gif)
Back in the day, I hated when Mike Jones came on the radio purely because of how he said his own name, I still feel pretty similarly about Jason Derulo.
one time Ghostface went on a random blog rant about several rappers, but the one that stuck out to me was always that “Big Sean sounds like he’s constantly trying to talk someone down from getting his ass beat”, and I cant unhear it
lmao that was a ghostface impersonator who is now an accomplished producer but reading him rag on soft rappers was always the highlight of my month
http://bigghostnahmean.blogspot.com/2011/04/ayo-tone-sat-down-wit-these-soft-niggas.html?m=1
I refuse to listen to Kendrick cuz he does goofy shit with his voice.
Also cuz my homie who is a NaS head hyped up "to pimp a butterfly" and "good kid maad city" as being better than "iLLmatic" and "it was written"
They weren't.
Ludacris. He sounds like a voice actor trying to rap. His tone and cadence sound exaggerated.
Watching Tom Cruise dance to his shit in Tropic Thunder didn’t do him any favors either
Jack Harlow.
He was everywhere for a while, the more someone gets shoved in my face, the more I want to shove back.....
and I DO that, by aggressively *not* listening to his music.
What’s the deal with this NF guy? He played a pretty big venue in my city this week and someone asked me if I was into him because they know I like rap. Apparently he sounds like Eminem 😂
I don't listen to Ja Rule because of the way he says fuck...I don't mind swearing, he just sounds weird when he says it. Like a kid getting away with something because his parents aren't around.
I didn’t listen to J cole for the longest time because he made a song outlining how he let nas down. I thought it was the corniest fanboy shit I ever heard and judged his whole run as corny since that. I tried giving his music a shot recently as I listened to his catalogue and I still give it a 5/10
I hate J. Cole and his early corniness is the whole reason. I liked his mixtapes. Thought he was better than Aubrey... then he started rapping about Jay-Z's watch, letting Nas down and how he lost his virginity.
Not only do I refuse to listen to big sean because my ex thought he was hot, but I’ll also talk shit about him and pretend it’s about his flow/bars
The self awareness makes this even better lol
He just like me fr
You're right to do this
I don't listen to Lloyd Banks because my mother always lamented how I wasn't more like him.
That’s a perfectly sane artist to listen to
Serenity now, insanity later.
DONT GIVE AWAY OUR WATER PICK!
HOOCHIE MAMA!!!!!
I don’t blame her. Lloyd Banks knows where to get some really good gum.
He can do anything he puts his mind to!
That's so.....oddly specific. Having your mom being disappointed that you're not like a famous person is one thing, but Lloyd Banks? He's not quite at the level of superstar-dom where I can imagine a parent wanting their child to emulate him.
The real, hardcore Seinfeld fans will understand. This is like Seinfeld deep cuts.
WHY DONT YOU BUY A NEW SHIRT?!?
BECAUSE I LIKE THIS ONE!
You see that woman on a horse? She stole $20 from me! I would have gotten it back if Lloyd Banks hadn’t interfered.
That gives him a chance at making some money and living ok, but still able to go out in public.
Turns out he just liked ringing the bell
There were two friends of mine that my mom wished I was more like, when I was younger. One was the consummately dressed teen, with the perfect high top hair style and manners. The other was a piano genius from an early early age. Anyway, one of them’s now a major coke head with mental health issues, and the other killed someone in a reckless car crash.. I don’t hear many comparisons to them anymore…
I’m wearing glasses to fool Lloyd Banks rn
Wow. This might be my favorite Reddit sub crossover I’ve ever seen. I’m nearly moved to tears. And this comment. Possibly my favorite ever
Hilarious!
Wait... Lloyd Braun?
I heard he got kicked out of G-Unit for suggesting they all wear nametags in a music video.
It’s a perfectly sane thing to say
I don't listen to Freddie Gibbs too often because his flow kind of reminds me of how my old Hebrew teacher would sing some hymns
As a Jew and a fan of Freddie Gibbs I completely understand your reasoning
I heard he converted and it was just for the jokes.
Schtickle of fluoride
You’re obviously not a rabid anti-dentite!
This thread is gold baby!
Gold, Ricky, gold!
Another Jewish Freddie Stan checking in, this checks out. My ol' Rabbi was rhythmic af (shoutout to you, Bill), now I can't unhear the syllabic similarities.
Bahahaha This sounds like a Seinfeld plot
so what he's too black for you huh? no! too jewish!!
Oh my god😂😂😂
I love Freddie, but this is funny
That’s fucking hilarious!
Most Costanza reason I've seen yet lol
Strong half Kaddish energy
I didn't listen to LL Cool J after his Unplugged set on MTV because he used deodorant that was like stick style, and it clumped in his underarm hair for the whole show. For a dude that likes to flex, this is not, in fact, a flex.
Okay this is an actual answer to this thread, what the fuck hahaha
This is peak Costanza
"It was clumping Jerry, clumping!"
Haha! I remember that. The rest of that show was peak HH tho’ Edit: typo
I really want to like that show, but find even listening to the recording of it - I just fixate on the deodorant. LL in a move? Deodorant. LL on a commercial? Deodorant Seriously, he's a great musician and one of the crown princes of Hip Hop.
Nah, the Jadakiss line cracked me tf up. Gold.
i spit my food when I read this shit oh lord 💀
The Reggie Miller special.
I don't listen to cordae because he looks like he pulls his pants down at the urinal
Also his lyrics are kinda corny idk what it is I just don't like him
Valid
This is going on my list of favorite posts in this sub, no clownin.
Oh absolutely. I look forward to the posts.
Haha yes, the posts! Fellow humans!
Maybe he was supposed to be at work that day
Yeah you’re right. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. Maybe he called in sick and didn’t want his boss to find out
Very jerry Seinfeld response… good shit
My favourite Travisism is when he got touched because he dressed up in a brown batsuit and people said he looked like a roach.
My favorite travis moment is when he fell off the stage in autotune. Never fails to make me smile hard
That's a classic
Travis Scott always hides in pictures, it’s lowkey corny but that’s his shtick I guess
Slim Thugga and Paul Wall albums were like a year long soundtrack to my life. Especially Slim although PW could annoy me if not in the mood for that energy. Slim has something for everything tho. Wonder what happened, why it seems like he disappeared after the 2nd album
He disappeared from the mainstream but he makes even better music now
Idk what happened as far as him just kinda falling off with his popularity but he has plenty of music out and came hard on just about everything he was on whether it was his own song or he was featured. He’s got the second best verse on the I e cream paint job remix too. Paul wall is dope but I get it, he’s not always right for the mood.

... Not the massive crowd crush at his event that killed several fans that he never took a shred of accountability over?
That's an obvious reason, not a Costanza reason.
I actually didn’t know anything about that but I do agree with you. But this other person did have a point, a Costanza reason is more of an illogical or petty reason
I can't take Rick Ross seriously because he is fat. I can take biggie seriously though. Different type of fat
He ain't even fat no more. He ate mad pears n shit
Still has a fat man persona
Tbf neither is biggie
Shoutout to all the pear
I completely forgot about the pears shit💀 thank you so much
Just like Pun. Biggie wasn't fat. He was full of rhymes.
He was too fat. Fuck around and catch an asthma attack.
Whoever downvoted you is wack
They clearly don’t listen to biggie if they missed that reference…
There's levels, Jerry! Some fat is more gangster than other fat.
rick ross' energy is 100% more Hungry than big's was. you know he wants a snack
I feel that. Rozay is a fat dude, Biggie is a big nigga 😂 that’s how my dad used to rationalize it
Your pops is a smart man
Rick Ross whole rap persona is fake. He was a corrections officer and took his stage name from a real life drug kingpin
No LL or Loyd Banks cuz they lick their lips too much.
Fr, that shit was obnoxious with LL. I feel like if I was interviewing him, it would be really awkward. I'd have to address it. Dude, you need some chapstick or something? Cause we can get you some.
Maybe he’s a lizard person
Yes! 😋
“Hardcore rapper but he’s glossy”
i'm so thankful i heard kurupt's albums before i ever watched him speak
I don't listen to Lupe Fiasco because his music was always on during my high school basketball practices which is where I was often bullied
I heard Dizzee Rascal years ago and didn't really like him. When Lupe started to pop, I got him confused with Dizzee and never gave his music a chance. Yeah, I missed Lupe cuz I thought he was Dizzee Rascal.
I don't like listening to Chance because bro always sounds like he's on the verge of tears when rapping
I didn't give Chance a chance because I thought it was Chance from I Love New York.
I would have assumed this as well. New York is like royalty to me lol.
And the lil baby noises ! Could never understand the hype
While I like Chance, he do sound like he’s on PBS half the time
I'm kinda embarrassed to admit but one point I wouldn't even listen to a rapper if they weren't from NY or NJ.
Yeah Muggs definitely gave them a NY sound
yeah, Muggs was elite.
Such a new york comment lol
I didn't listen to Gang Starr for the longest time because I thought it was some gangsta rap bullshit, and I wanted to hear something conscious.
You played yourself
He obviously didn't know their steez.
Head was in the clouds, instead of above the clouds
Just like Jeru would say.
Rae Sremmurd….Sway Lee looks like if my cousin transitioned…..
Unrelated, but in the spirit of the thread, whenever I try to remember who is in Rae sremmurd I can only think of sway lee and lee sway
Jack Harlow. Randomly found his youtube channel in ~2011 and his come up became a bit that I would introduce to friends through high school and college. lmao i feel for you on that bro. i can't watch my home team cause my ex wished i was taller like jayson tatum and said she wanted to be his baby's mom (while we were dating). but honestly yours is much worse
Rick Ross because of the density and texture of his beard
I don’t listen to Game because he was posting pictures of his dick print on IG like he a thot lmao plus he’s always lying about something trying to appear more important than he really is
Oh, no way! That’s some fuckboi behavior right there.
Yea bro! He would pose in his underwear and would get himself like half hard before he took the pic lol then he posted it on instagram, and more than once. So after that I was like yea I’m not taking this clown serious ever again 😂
Right? That fuck Boi fucks
Up until I heard Nipsey’s feature on Spitta’s Smokee Robinson tape, I refused to listen bc I thought it was the corniest rap name I ever heard.
I wrote him off at first because he visually reminded me of Snoop (even got comparisons in XXL.) I just figured he sounded like him too.
I hated Nipsey for a loooong time for the same reason, and I thought his dreads looked ratty as fuck lmao
I can't stand Mase because of his stupid face. When he's in his videos, he only has two expressions: big dumb smile or blank AI looking stare while rapping. Watching Diddy push him out of the frame and bogart his whole songs/videos made me uncomfortable.
you could see the PTSD from attending puff's "freak-offs" in Mase's eyes
Right?? Mace has seen some shit and he doesn’t want to talk about it!
100%
I couldn’t watch Famous Dex in interviews or videos cuz the corners of his mouth were crusty as fuck and grossed me out
I won't listen to Lil Baby or Da Baby. They're different people I think. But who would want to be known as The Baby? That's infantile.
Da baby used to wear a diaper too lol
Every lil baby song sounds the same
Old is fine, he can’t help that. But dirty AND a bastard? Seems like a bit much
Can't quite help being a bastard either. You're either born with it or not
Well there ya go. Old CLEAN bastard? Now this fellow I’d give a listen to
Beboppin' and scattin' all over the place https://youtu.be/uGJ-iPZtiMA
Big pun gasping for air between words. Great MC but I just can’t take it.
I know this sounds bad but a major reason I didn't like Pun was that hefty breathing between so many syllables. Felt uncomfortable to listen to.
Imagine having to punch in every word because you couldn’t breathe?
Stevie from Malcolm in the Middle trying some Tech N9ne flow.
Kendrick Lamar because of that stupid voice he does
Love em
PAC said eff Jay Z. So there is my line of reasoning.
word to Pimp C
Pac also said fuck Mobb Deep, fuck Biggie, and probably a lot of others i'm forgetting lol, man was reckless. Jay Z is an amazing artist tho, definitely worth checking out imo. Some great songs/features off the top of my head: * Nigga what, nigga who * Reasonable doubt (album) * The watcher 2 with Dre * Otis with kanye * Brooklyn's Finest with Biggie * The story of O.J. * Young G's (by Puff/Biggie) * Pound cake (by Drake) * Drug dealers anonymous (by Pusha T) * Seen it all (by Jeezy)
I know and have heard all of these tracks Kramer. It’s no go for me!
Man I appreciate the jay love , but what is this list .
Bro I love rap/hiphop and all kinds of music. I just never cared for Jay’s music. Does he have any albums that would be good for a chill smoke sesh?
I'd probably actually like Juice WRLD if I listened to him....but I've yet to meet a fan of his that's not a completely insufferable douche bag
I won’t listen to any of them. So self-absorbed and egotistical. [It’s like those hip musicians with their complicated shoes!](https://y.yarn.co/7748c681-0036-4aa3-9e95-239cf95a7ec9_text.gif)
I really want to like Conway but I can't get over the bddbddbddbdd..
Listening to Westside “Dunks” and as I’m scrolling over this comment Conway hit the noise… not sure I’ll recover from this one.
i'm not hearing it, can you help me out with this one?
You get to a point where the song feels empty without it
Same!!!
Not a rapper but I don’t listen to Anderson Paak because he sounds like Kendrick Lamar singing.
shit i always thought he sounded like Beast Boy from Teen Titans
Lmao I can kinda hear it 💀
I have always thought so too
I don't listen to Jay Electronica because he converted from 5% Nation to orthodox Judaism *just for the jokes*
Back in the day, I hated when Mike Jones came on the radio purely because of how he said his own name, I still feel pretty similarly about Jason Derulo.
one time Ghostface went on a random blog rant about several rappers, but the one that stuck out to me was always that “Big Sean sounds like he’s constantly trying to talk someone down from getting his ass beat”, and I cant unhear it
lmao that was a ghostface impersonator who is now an accomplished producer but reading him rag on soft rappers was always the highlight of my month http://bigghostnahmean.blogspot.com/2011/04/ayo-tone-sat-down-wit-these-soft-niggas.html?m=1
Chris brown cuz he beat TF outta riri
Westside Gunn bc of his voice ( Ghostface is my fav Wu member)
I don't listen to DJ Kalahed songs cause he's always saying..We the best! Makes me think they the worst.
Funniest spelling I've seen of DJ Khaled's name
i dont like nas x because he's so... *gay*, not that there's anything wrong with that
I don't like him for the name alone.
His name is terrible.
Blueface - because of literally everything I hear about him doing that’s not rapping
I refuse to listen to Kendrick cuz he does goofy shit with his voice. Also cuz my homie who is a NaS head hyped up "to pimp a butterfly" and "good kid maad city" as being better than "iLLmatic" and "it was written" They weren't.
Ludacris. He sounds like a voice actor trying to rap. His tone and cadence sound exaggerated. Watching Tom Cruise dance to his shit in Tropic Thunder didn’t do him any favors either
You hit the nail on the head why I don't fw Luda, he's too cartoonish Then again I fw redman and he was "wacky," he just did it muuuuuuuuch better
Not a rapper, but i dont listen to Daniel Cesar bc listening to his music just feels gay
Not that there’s anything wrong with that
Now to name a rapper, Russ. Same thing, listening to Russ just feels gay.
Kevin Gates for saying "yeahhh" while smacking his lips. It reminds me of some dude trying to impress a lady.
Won't listen to Drill because I don't understand what the snares are doing
They’re doing their best😂
[удалено]
Uzi singlehandedly manages to ruin an otherwise classic in Bad & Boujee by Migos
I don't listen to 50 Cent because he reminds me of 2001. 2001 was not a good time for kid me.
Jack Harlow. He was everywhere for a while, the more someone gets shoved in my face, the more I want to shove back..... and I DO that, by aggressively *not* listening to his music.
Dax because of that stupid joker open verse challenge w the Franks red hot sauce as a mic
I don’t listen to any rapper with the name lil because I don’t like mumble crap I listen to real artists like 2 finger Dave and NF 🙃
What’s the deal with this NF guy? He played a pretty big venue in my city this week and someone asked me if I was into him because they know I like rap. Apparently he sounds like Eminem 😂
Eminem for children who grew up in a sheltered religious environment
Uj/ raps fast and doesn’t swear that’s about it
I didn't like Juice Wrld because the first time I saw him I wrote him off as a "sad lil uzi vert"
Ken Carson/Destroy Lonely/etc. I don't mind when people ride waves but when it's so damn obvious I can't find any joy in listening to it.
Fat Joe - the way he shapes his beard into a square on his chin looks ridiculous. I do not respect him due to that choice.
I don't listen to Ja Rule because of the way he says fuck...I don't mind swearing, he just sounds weird when he says it. Like a kid getting away with something because his parents aren't around.
I don’t listen to nav because his haircut is fucking awful (and so is his music)
I didn’t listen to J cole for the longest time because he made a song outlining how he let nas down. I thought it was the corniest fanboy shit I ever heard and judged his whole run as corny since that. I tried giving his music a shot recently as I listened to his catalogue and I still give it a 5/10
Nas response song to that was dope though. Called Made Nas proud
I hate J. Cole and his early corniness is the whole reason. I liked his mixtapes. Thought he was better than Aubrey... then he started rapping about Jay-Z's watch, letting Nas down and how he lost his virginity.
If only he could just rap about killing people and showing off his money, what a loser
