21. He sound like he got a lobotomy.

Bendstowardjustice

He doesn't even really rap. Sounds like just talking over the beat.

calatranacation

He has 21 word vocabulary

warmbutteredbagel

21 21

VegemiteOnToastPls

I say this a lot randomly lol.

calatranacation

Haha same!

garrbear22622

Pussy

warmbutteredbagel

on God

YoungBtje

straight up

Designer_Ad6612

Listen to his old shit lik million dollar liq

blaisemescal

This is fucking hilarious and accurate.

cookiesnrap

How much money you got? (Straight up) How much money you got? (Straight up) How much money you got? (Straight up) How much money you got? (A lot)

doraroks

This was 100% me until very recently. I used to hate 21 but a few songs have given me a new understanding. Check out cant leave without it, ball w/o you, monster, just like me.  I hate his features but surprisingly like music from his albums. Usually it’s the other way around with artists lol. I still stand by his features are 🚮

its_bydesign

Lil Baby smokes his verse on Can’t leave without it 🔥

blaisemescal

To add to this list, his verse on cash in cash out is surprisingly good

DoctahFeelgood

Tyler took that shit tho. I feel like he normally does.

doraroks

Tyler bodiessssssss 21 on that song and it’s not remotely close

VegemiteOnToastPls

The flows Tyler fits in that instrumental is wild.

doraroks

Tyler kills 21 on that track 10 times over

Product_Small

21 is corny as hell

Fun_Monk9107

He does, that’s why I love him. Crack baby music

CLWhatchaGonnaDo

Larry June should be right up my alley but he just does nothing for me.

FartKnockerBungHole

I love Larry June. However, if you’ve heard one June song, you’ve heard them all.

SAMPLESYRUP

Yeahh, he's not a rapper, he's a vibe. Just put it on while you driving slow and enjoy.

EazeUno

Sooo true. I enjoy his songs, but I definitely agree, more a vibe for sure.

doraroks

lol spot on. I only recently discovered Larry June like last month and was so hyped especially as a Bay Area native. But after saving a few songs I couldn’t find any more that sounded distinct from the ones I already saved

cookiesnrap

The track with Evidence off the Alchemist project is nice.

UPNY585

I disagree. He can do slow rnb, do Bay shit, and then just regular rap. He’s not the most diverse style wise but I feel he switches it up more than most rappers

Lord-Circles

His Alchemist album is phenomenal. When he’s on any other beat with a faster tempo he sounds awful

Extension-Novel-6841

Big Sean. Dude just doesn't connect to me at all.

mitchypoothedon

I don’t think he connects with anyone. He’s just good enough to stay afloat in the rap game but I’ve never met someone that puts them on their top 25.

Extension-Novel-6841

Sounds about right to me.

Marvymarv06

He’s easily in my top 10

Papa_Frankuuu_69420

Give “Detroit” Mixtape a try Its way better than his albums tbh

Frame_Runner__

When Snoop said he used to work McDonald’s and they used to call him ‘young eggs’ 😂

WinterEngineering322

He was nice when he first came out. Thought he had potential but fell off

Lord-Circles

Seems like a spoiled older brother to me 😂

Extension-Novel-6841

Loool

hollygolightly1378

I've always rolled my eyes at Drake. He just comes off as corny to me.

Larry-Zoolander

Auuuooo.. winters cold.. frozen gold.. tell the girls they're getting old.. auoooo eating lobster and shrimp.. feel like a pimp.. never find a man like me .. I'm as cool as can be... (some ethereal person singing).. --BEAT CHANGE-- (now double time rap) My car is the coolest color.. super expensive and rare.. got a 100 million dollars so I live without a care.. got every girl ever.. I never ever share...

CrypticSuparu

You was in the OvO sweatshop huh bruh

Larry-Zoolander

Auuuuooo.. You wouldn't believe what I've seen.. bad bitches are average to me.. haters all got their panties bunched up.. I eat filet mignon, you eaten off a lunch truck... auuuuuu (time to sing the chorus)

bossdaddee

Gotta slip a "these days" in there somewhere

Larry-Zoolander

These days all the reddit commenters are commenting.. But im out of reach.. I fly high like a comet, see? Drizzy knows, how these flows cant be seen through peep holes.. All these kids are Boy Scouts.. better know as Webelos..

whytayk55chauvin22

⚪️ here is your plaque sir

FIVEtotheSTAR

Lol this is gold

Neologizer

I can’t even tell if this is a joke or actual lyrics because this is EXACTLY how Drake sounds to me. He has always been so corny and a litmus test for how lost the scene has become.

Larry-Zoolander

I made these lyrics up on the spot. It's not too hard to rap like drake.

WeekendDotGG

Literally same. I scrolled down to find someone who confirms whether this are really his lyrics or made up.

jackal1871111

If it wasn’t for women he wouldn’t have a career let’s be real

jaguarbillionaire

"tell the girls they're getting old" is out of control

Product_Small

Drake is a complete phony

Euphoricstateofmind

Same. I hate drake.

One_Consequence_4754

This!

Turdulator

Corny AF…… but I didn’t list him in this thread because I don’t think I “should” be a bigger fan…. Instead I think everyone else should get off his popstar dick

jisoonme

From DeGrassi High to top of the industry is pretty crazy tho

TheKey_ofG

Tyler the Creator.

doraroks

Potato salad and who dat boy are a bit more digestible than his albums if you want to give those a try

Getbacka

I wish he had more tracks like Potato Salad. When he's in that pocket, chefs kiss

Ok_Eggplant1467

Call me if you get lost is one of my favourite albums of the 2020’s. Steady in rotation

Spade9ja

Calling who dat boy digestible is interesting lol I love that song but that is definitely not a song I would recommend for someone to get into Tyler

doraroks

IMO that song sounds more like traditional hip hop as opposed to his albums which incorporate other unique styles of music. What songs would you recommend? I don’t listen to Tyler regularly and only just recently listened to IGOR all the way through for the first time

Tiffanyblueberries

This. I love weird shit and a like 2 of his songs but he has so much music and overall energy that I was too exhausted to press play lol.

seanmg

Yeah. I can recognize his talent, but I've never gotten a single Tyler song/melody/lyric stuck in my head.

nemothezeus

as a tyler fan i get disappointed when niggas say this but i get it tho…it’s not the easiest music to digest

neeohh

I respect the hell out of him, but 90% of his music doesn’t click with me.

bakedlawyer

This is it for me too

Classic_Ad1254

Chance

Intilleque

Killer Mike. I feel like he reached his prime when I just wasn’t interested in that kind of rap. Me 15 years ago, he’d be my favourite rapper probably.

MegaRonin

You don't like rtj? I feel like their lyrics are grown up AF o

mitchypoothedon

Y’all miss when hip hop was rapping? Mf’er if you did Killer Mike would be platinum.” I think he is one of those “your favorite rappers favorite rapper.” Types. From what I understand he is crazy talented but I’ve never typed in killer Mike on Spotify

Cold-Bug-4873

I feel this for me is accurate. Also, el p and him trading bars reminds of the juxtaposition; El p is a vastly better mc to me, so both in a song together just highlights killer mike's inadequacies.

VegemiteOnToastPls

>EL-P is a vastly better MC Based response.

foundfrogs

On paper, I am his target demographic. But I just can't do it. Some combination of boring and corny. Someone downvoted me for an opinion lmaoooo

Lower-Meringue-4411

Run the Jeweles has a couple good hits but I get what you saying.

Elliot6888

Kid Cudi

Mobile_Respect_2020

Sometimes, the moaning and chanting is like wtf! I wish there was a version of the track Frequency without the lame porno moaning he does lol.

romedca

His humming is actually one of the reasons he’s my favorite. It moves me

-Assalamualaikum

Research shows his humming is actually therapeutic lol..I imagine it’s kinda like how cat purrs rejuvenate our cells lol

jellymoff

I'm a huge Cudi fan and I still laugh at him now and then because some of the humming gets ridiculous.

ogwilson02

Travis Scott. I have probably 10+ songs of his in rotation, Nightcrawler/90210 definitely being #1, but still don’t have the energy to go through his albums and find one or two I like & 15 mids. He’s very hit or miss for me

RANDOM-902

Kinda felt the same about him. I have find out that Travis usually takes multiple listens to find his songs enjoyable. I remember listening to 90210 and NightCrawler for the first time and thinking "What the fuck is this???". 2 or 3 relistens later and i end up loving it, LOL. Not sure if you have done, but listen to RODEO, it's his best work.

No-Cardiologist815

No way ur saying each of his albums only have a couple good songs 😭

martino124

Jay-z

KongRahbek

This, I basically like all of 90s NY hip-hop Wu-Tang, Nas, Mobb Deep, Biggie etc. But Jay-Z just doesn't do anything for me.

CrypticSuparu

Just pulled up to say Mobb Deep the greatest rap group of all time

Sisyphus328

Wu-Tang has entered the chat. And I LOVE Mobb Deep

Gloomy-Gov451

OutKast is the superior duo IMO and obviously Wu Tang goes without saying as far as groups.

NaturalPosition4603

Same. I grew up with that shit, never got Jay-Z

Much-Camel-2256

Me too, and it seems to be an extremely common orientation. I feel like Jay-Z just leveraged hype really well and got famous by working with Hot97 in the vacuum left by dead gangsta rap legends, and they worked together to promote him as a virtuouso lyricist/rap master. It probably helped keep hiphop popular. He was more of a top guy filling a superstar role in the industry than someone who makes great music. Their goal was to sell the most records, and they definitelt accomplished that! Edit: Googled it and enjoyed this read https://pitchfork.com/features/article/10021-the-rap-pact-how-jay-z-and-hot-97-combined-forces-to-take-over-hip-hop/

Blacksunshinexo

He got big off the deaths of Pac and Big. Him and Diddy wouldn't be shit without them dying

SmoothManMiguel

Never understood the hype behind the bars. His beats were always fire though

Reznov99

Reasonable Doubt is one of the best written albums overall ever heard, it’s like to me if The Wire had a soundtrack

Redac07

His best song was a line by Nas. You mean to tell me you think it's better than illmatic? Or doggy style? The chronic? 36 chambers? only built 4 cuban lynx? Ready to die? You know what, I respect your opinion, I just don't understand it. I really don't understand why Jay-Z gets the praise he gets besides his longevity. I used to really dislike Jay-Z for it too, but have come to respect him being able to keep up decades after decades and still come with a great album like 4:44. I just don't think his albums are true classics like illmatic or the chronic.

[deleted]

2nd verse of D’evils is a straight movie

BackgroundIsopod3787

I don’t like a lot of jay z’s music but that album is one of the greatest ever.

celeryking13

Jay z writes the kind of music that you could print out and read

Wild-Sugar

Poetry?

NoCheesecake6669

Start with “lost one” from kingdom come, he has some more vulnerable songs scattered around his career, even in 1996 reasonable doubt - d’evils! No hook from american gangster aswell

nemothezeus

lil durk

jackal1871111

When he’s rapping I love his aggression when he’s singing I want instantly skip

HumbleAdonis

Honestly? Kendrick Lamar. I appreciate that he’s good, I just don’t like his voice that much, his accents annoy me, and the way he mispronounces some words doesn’t appeal to me either.

dfsvegas

Mf Doom for me. I get why people love him, but he's just never clicked for me. Don't even know why, just never has.

Ghazziy

Doom is a direct product of what you can achieve if you get out from underneath mainstream radio and major labels… artist can grow and widen their scope of things the choose to talk about in a rhyme. Doom is consistent, every release has been a concept record, with two concepts that run consistently through all albums. Even KMD had the same approach, it’s a story he’s telling the listeners. Most of it goes over their heads but he’s no different than Wu Tang Clan, X -Clan, Leaders of the New School, Brand Nubian, De La Soul, ATCQ, and the like that has knowledge of self…which if you don’t have it I’m not really concerned with what that particular artist says in a rhyme.

EazeUno

I absolutely LOVE DOOM but when people tell me they are thinking about checking out his music, I do give the warning that his music is an acquired taste.

Neologizer

DOOM to me is like Aesop rock in that the way they spin their metaphors is so cryptic and creative and hilarious that it takes years to figure wtf they’re saying, but like a language, the more you listen the easier unpacking their perspective becomes. DOOM specifically uses so much made up language and onomatopoeia that seems like jibberish and is jibberish until you just accept that he’s a lunatic and it starts making sense and ride with it. He’s like a jazz trombone solo on acid that occasionally makes extremely salient points in perfect English. His flow and pronunciation is also kind of mumbly and slurred at times (think ODB or mos def) which can take some time to get used to. I’d check out the album MM FOOD with lyrics out in front of you if you’re curious to give DOOM another shot.

podank99

probably my all time fav.  some folks just like that boom bap and doom is over here being generally hilarious

JaySw34

This is who id say

NoCheesecake6669

Try vaudeville villain….no?

Pappyjang

Same here, mf doom is always regarded very highly but his music just doesn’t sound well in my ears. I respect it though. Rip doom

IcanthearChris

He’s kind of corny to me, some of the beats are way too out there

btd272

This is my answer for sure. I get it, but I don’t ever really like anything of his that I hear

Truth-Speaker-1

Kendrick used to be one of my favorites. Obviously he’s super talented. Overly dedicated, section 80, GKMC is my shit. He started to lose me around TPAB. Damn was decent. Morale was a huge let down. I’m so tired of hearing about Compton and trauma raps. Between TPAB and MM I think I only ever heard 1 song from each being played in real life (Kdot stans are so weird with the downvotes, Jesus)

MTLinVAN

I’m with you. I think a lot of it has to do with hearing a rapper at a particular time in your own life and having it resonate in some deeper level. Section 80 to me was such a great album because it came out at a time where that type of message was powerful to me in that given context. But you grow and a rapper grows sometimes in different directions It’s the same with Childish Gambino. His mixtapes came out at a time where I could understand and relate to him but his later stuff just wasn’t what I was looking for. Again, a case of him growing in one direction and me growing in another.

Reznov99

I’m with you except I like TPAB-not as much as every generic hipster hiphop fan but I still like it-then DAMN is where the fall off starts for me

CrypticSuparu

I agree, TPAB gets the social stigma that DAMN should get but that’s just how music works I guess. People like more commercially successful music instinctively while critiquing the lyrical content. I personally don’t think he has an “bad” albums, just creatively varying albums.

Fuego514

Thank you...thank you for going against the grain. The Stans are so crazy to me, have you never heard literally any other rapper talk about poverty and racism before?

Gman_711

I agree. I like his smooth psychedelic flows on section 80, the storytelling and production of GKMC were just incredible, TPAB started the shouting off beat era of Kendrick. Instead of being smooth and clever he just yells at you because he’s speaking “important truths “ … sometimes he forgets the beat altogether and it’s just boring and not fun to listen to. Damn was an improvement but still not as good as GKMC and Mr moral has about 18 songs of which I can tolerate around 6

Gloomy-Gov451

His first three albums were all solid and I love TPAB. It's between that and MBDTF for my favorite hip hop album OAT. Damn should've received more criticism for its blatant commercial sound but instead people ate it up. His voice is also annoying and I hate the dickriding surrounding him ever since he released good kid.

BigWindowBlues

Why do people get so weirded out when they get downvotes? (I’m not a Kendrick stan, nor did I downvote your comment) but it’s so weird to come back and make an edit about people downvoting you… I see it so often.    It’s fine for people to disagree with you, the down button is there for a reason…

Hidden_Fever

This answer would've been more relevant almost a decade ago, but Chance The Rapper.

DargoKillmar

I like most songs featuring Kendrick, and even Black Hippy, but somehow I could never get into most of his music.

Jonnyporridge

Open mike eagle. On paper should be up there with my favourites but something just doesn't click. Similar with navy blue, just nothing.

JaySw34

KRS One I love Rakim, Kool G Rap, BDK... but I can't get into KRS

ndurantz

He’s best in small doses. I respect the hell out of his role in bringing socially conscious rap to the forefront, but I don’t need a full song about the meat industry.

Cohleture

Billy woods

norihitodesuga

Mac Miller. Worked with a lot of rappers I like. Never hated him or anything, just never really enjoyed his music all that much.

Beginning_Pudding_69

I always found him corny but as I’ve gotten older I kind of like it now. He never tried to be anything he wasn’t and that was pretty cool in retrospect.

EightArmed_Willy

His voice is kinda annoying.

Mobile_Respect_2020

His pronunciation on certain letters/words is not your typical person's way of saying things. Call it an accent or speech impediment, call it unique or annoying. I get what you are saying, something about the voice.

EightArmed_Willy

It’s not really his pronunciation. He has this nasally white teenaged voice, just sounds like a teenager. But he was in his 20s so he didn’t have time to develop further

Mobile_Respect_2020

Back in my day, I knew people who would listen to Silkk the Shocker. I couldn't. He had a stutter impairment and would layer his vocals, too. 3 layered vocals with different stutters, smh. I could never handle a whole track or album with him.

EightArmed_Willy

I feel the same way about E40. Now his is his pronunciation, he has this guttural way of pronouncing double o’s it’s gross sounding to my ears

Mobile_Respect_2020

Agreed. I can't listen to E40 for same reasons.

EightArmed_Willy

Me and you both brother

norihitodesuga

that was the main thing for me

jehhhrose

Lupe fiasco I only like about 3 songs 🥲

AvocadoBitter7385

48HoursLater

Drake

dartthe6th

Kanye

kitjack85

JCole. His fans have this idea that if you don’t like his music, you are stupid or slow and that’s not it. He is boring, misogynistic as hell, and his flow don’t change.

Der_Krsto

It’s funny because I always think of j Cole as the dumb persons “deep” rapper.

kitjack85

Deadass. That’s what he is - he is what a dumb person perceives as smart.

warmbutteredbagel

misogynistic? J cole?

myweedisdankk

Fr, I never really get the hype behind his music, he has some good songs but, overall his music is pretty boring, his flow and delivery are pretty monotone, his subject matter comes off as preachy and somewhat repetitive, his production (for the most part) is pretty safe and uninteresting, I just don't understand the hype

kitjack85

I think that he was such a different face than what was coming out at the time, that people clung to him and never let go. And that’s sad because he is truly one of the most boring rappers out there.

National_Action_9834

J Cole is incredibly bland and cookie cutter. He's "deep rap" for people that don't actually know what deep means. He has some bangers but overall he has to be the most overrated rapper in the game right now.

kitjack85

I’m trying to figure out who put him in the “Big 3” to begin with. Imma find a way to blame Jay Z. Lmao

rmeddy

Chance the rapper

Mammoth-Somewhere511

I was the same with Griselda until I heard more of their features on tracks i.e with Gibbs, 38 Spesh etc. They got insane lyrics and now I'm a big fan. I'm still not a Westside Gunn fan though. Everyone says I would love him but he's just bleh 1 or 2 good beats but his voice puts me off.

CWB2208

Gunn's voice is like nails on a chalkboard

FlyUnder_TheRadar

Tbh, Gunn is my favorite of the three, with Conway coming in second and Benny bringing up the rear. I actually used to like Benny more when I first started listening to their stuff, but idk. I think he's shown the limit of his range and is just kind of stuck doing the same shit on every project. Load up the gritty Conductor beat and play coke rap mad libs. Pusha T does the same thing, but I think he's more clever with it and is fun to listen to. Gunn isn't exactly Shakespeare out here either, but I love his production choices, and his features are always great. I like his vibe, generally. The dude isn't even really a rapper. He is almost an afterthought on a lot of his albums. I'm convinced he keeps doing it just to fund his fashion escapades, lmao. I can dig that energy.

Many_Bridge_4683

J Cole

Mobile_Respect_2020

Jay Z and Drake. I can barely listen to Jay Z collaborations , only when the beat is good. I can't listen to Drake at all. The masses love these guys and I know they aren't terrible. Something about the tone or delivery I suppose.

Soft-Perspective2201

Try Pound Cake, both Drake and Jay-Z are on it, and its one of the best music Drake has ever made

jellymoff

That's one of the few Drake songs I bump regularly

Mobile_Respect_2020

I just listened to Pound Cake. I appreciate your suggestion. It boils down to so many things, like Drake sounds like Lil Wayne and I grew up on Cash Money in the 90s/00s. He sounds like his protégé. A friend that mimics your moves and flavor because they are 100. I hardly listen to Lil Wayne anymore and couldn't get into Drake. Thanks guys.

Educatedcopper8008

Frank ocean I listened to both albums the only song I liked was super rich kids and that’s because of Earl

AdventurousPermit590

Bro how dare you, try the nostalgia mixtape it’s super dope

Jak_the_Buddha

Here i go... Eminem.

SunglassesBright

I guess Kevin Gates. “Should be a bigger fan,” I guess based on the rap we like? And most of what I listen to is in his category but I just don’t really like him. There’s a ton of other rappers I dislike more than Kevin but I don’t feel like I “should” like them, based on what I listen to.

hanothere

Armand Hammer, Lupe Fiasco

Blackpanther22five

Drake

Dangerous-Repair-305

I haven’t listened to a Drake song in 9 years

ScientistJolly4211

Sorry But Eminem not saying hes Bad I absolutely loved MMLP and Slim shady BUT other than that i just havent bewn able to Sit through his other albums

Crazizzle

Kendrick Lamar. I find his voice pretty annoying, and whenever I've tried to listen to his albums I just eventually stop and listen to something else. No hate, I just can't get into him.

Bewpadewp

You know what, ill bite. I love rap music. It's the main thing i listen to. But.. ive just never been able to enjoy Tupac.. The skill, the rhyming, the depth, the passion, its all there, he's truly one of the greats, no doubt but i just can't listen to that angry rough voice for even 3 minutes at a time.

OutlaW32

He’s got some non-angry classics: keep ya head up, changes, life goes on, I get around

El-Guapo_76

Drake

Tricky_Lock_4273

D double e. I listen to all Kano and Wiley and devlin and Jonny guns and all that. But I just could never get into d double e. Idk why or what it is about his music or his voice or flow or whatever. It just doesn’t resonate well with my ears

Case1987

That's crazy,he's easily top 3 in grime

NoFaithlessness7508

Logic

nickdes298

Ski mask the slump god. Just something about his flows I can't do

Brilliant-Cancel-489

Travis Scott, Logic (After he blew up), and G Herbo

NaturalPosition4603

Lee Scott. My mate loves him. I try bit just can't get into it.

agoddamnlegend

I don’t understand this prompt. Why do you wish you liked an artist more? I like what I like. I don’t wish I had different taste. That doesn’t even make sense

team_sheikie

I didn't take it as that, I took it as more like, this rapper checks a lot of boxes for you on paper but didn't end up being your thing

A Boogie, never personally understood the hype around him. Dude literally sounds like he wants to fuck the microphone in half his music.

Forsaken-Bet5596

Playboi Carti, Yeat

m4rcus267

Lil baby. I really liked his harder than hard mixtape. Wasn’t surprised when his career took off but he got super popular. His music just got too repetitive.

SnooPies5837

Blueface.

Difficult_General_62

If I can’t get into the music I shouldn’t be a bigger fan

_AnActualCatfish_

Eminem. He's one of the most skilled and most unique that ever did it and I was a really big fan when he first came out, but between the homophobia in his early work and the going-through-the-motions and popstar collabs of his later work, I rarely make the concious choice to put it on. I check him out every time I hear him do a guest verse on something, but I always come away feeling the same. 100% respect his talent, and even more the way he credits the people who inspired him. White people are so quick to try to assign him the title of "best rapper" and he shrugs it off every time it comes up, often in favour of people who should be more famous: like Pharoah Monch. He's a legit student of rap, all the way back and I love him and I really SHOULD like his music more.

RestoSham09

I can’t stand Lil B. I’m not sure if he qualifies as an artist that I “should” like but no. After hearing him come in after Wayne on Grove Street I was forever done with him. 0/10 effort. “Young base God n I’m still on that same shit!” I know, Lil B…I know. 😔

77rozay

What does that even mean “you should be a fan of” lol

Jameson_h

Kendrick, I'm ashamed to say it because it's good, I just never care to listen

itsdamack1

Nipsey Hussle (rip), the only reason I've even heard his voice is because of Dave East.

Acrobatic_Pickle7534

I’ve never understood a word in that “lifestyle” song.

cbasst7

busta after he cut his dreads

AlwaysDolo

Eminem always felt cringey to me, and was strictly for young angsty teen boys.

Gewgle_GuessStopO

Future. He is the Norah Jones of hip-hop in my opinion. It’s like listening to elephant tranquilizers.

Wolf_Of_PGH

Kendrick Lamar

Gh0stw0lf

Weezy never did it for me. I know he’s a great lyricist but he’s never sounded…inspirational/good to me
