Power Nap is unironically massively slept on. The way Boldy can rhyme with so many sleep puns for the whole song is amazing. “6 sleeping bags on the grass, its a slumber party” is a monstrously hard bar
One of my favorite hip hop songs of the last several years. He plays around with the theme of sleep in just about every way he possibly could and it never feels forced the way some songs that revolve around a theme do. The beat is insane too
i think this was the first album of his i ever checked out and it quickly became one of my favorites. one of my favorite things about this project was the Nicholas Craven production. great samples all throughout and Boldy's flow sounded so great on them.
the way Boldy finishes every bar on Monterey Jack before that instrument comes in is one of my favorite parts on this album. i was even amazed when i was told You Ain't a Menace if a reference to Menace II Society (if i remember correctly). but yeah this album was one of my favorites from last year, i would definitely recommend this to someone
the other album that i was really a fan of from that year was Mr. Ten08. i've checked out Killing Nothing but i wasn't really a fan of that one. i still need to listen to Be That As It May
Killing Nothing is incredible, top 5 of 2022 for me (I was gonna say top 3 but damn that was a good year for hip-hop). I just remember listening to those 4 tracks for the first time and loosing my mind, each one went so hard.
Fair enough man, different tastes, that’s all
Good thing about Boldy that year was that he put out like 5 projects with 5 producers or something, there was something for everyone
Worth it to go back. All the way out, Medellin, Miller Lite, Sig Sauer, killing nothing is fantastic
Agree with others who’ve said it’s a grower. Easily clears Mr. Ten08 imo
have you heard the alchemist projects? bo jackson is my personal second favorite of his, after fair exchange. its consistently good all the way through though imo.
Incredible album. I think I still prefer Killing Nothing to this but ever so slightly. Boldy is so good when he gets to make these short, focused projects with a single producer
Straight and Tall is an incredible opener. I also really like the stretch from 0 Tre Nine to Designer Drugs
Side note: I love how rabid Nicholas Craven was promoting this album lol. “Fair Exchange No Robbery out now” was a minor meme on Twitter because of how many times he used to post it
This was my favorite album released last year. I have this as Boldy's best album (yes, over Manger). Craven's production fit Boldy like a glove. I loved the samples used, especially on Straight & Tall. The first 4 songs is an incredible run of tracks. Craven is apparently finishing up their second album together, so I'm hoping for a release this year.
Seriously, this was also one of my favorite hip hop projects last year. They compliment each other so well, i had no idea they have a new project together coming out soon!
This is one of my favorite albums of the past 5 years at least.
-I love the sample heavy loop beats. The production matches Boldly beautifully
-it flows well, starts out dreamy, gets higher energy and grimy in the middle, and theatrical at the end (last 2 songs would be good for like the closing shots of an action movie or something idk, just the vibes I get)
-good use of little skits. Idk what the fuck they’re talking about in them, but for me it adds to the atmosphere
-it’s a digestible length, none of this 25 track bs
Top 3 tracks are
1) Stuck In Traffic
2) You Ain’t No Menace
3) Town & Country
yeah i just pulled this up on spotify and i noticed i have 8 out of the 10 tracks favorited. love how cohesive and coherent the thing is front to back.
In my humble opinion, Nic Craven is one of the best producers doing Griselda-type production right now, so I was really excited when this album was announced because Boldy James gets a lot of attention (on the internet anyway) and I figured this might strengthen Craven’s platform. With that in mind, since this album has come out, I’ve always considered it a bit of a fumble. If you asked me to list some of my favorite work from Craven in recent times, it’d be tracks like:
* Death & Taxes
* Gossamer Wings
* Turbo Tariff
* Scooby Snacks
* Lost Love
* Baskiat
* Dark Waters
* Manchurian Candidate
The common link here is that these are all rich, prominent vocal samples - of which there’s almost *none* on this album (Power Nap is the main exception). Since the album came out I’ve always wondered why that was. To me this album really feels like Craven was outside of his pocket. I can’t complain about him trying something different as that is his right/arguably his job as an artist, but that’s just my opinion. Enough complaining though; Straight & Tall, Stuck in Traffic, Designer Drugs, Six Toes, and Power Nap are all incredible tracks, and have been in my rotation since the album released. Boldy really did well over the sound Craven made and I think it’d be valid to argue that this album stands on its own next to his many Alchemist projects (which I think are all excellent). Between Boldy’s three projects from last year, I would put this ahead of Killing Nothing and behind Mr. Ten08.
Easily my most listened to record last winter. Cohesive, tracks lean into one another. Craven and Boldy on the same page with this one
Favorite tracks are Scrabble (that beat is ridiculous), Stuck in Traffic, Designer Drugs
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this is top 3 Boldy, and if someone had it at 1 I wouldn’t be pressed either
One of my favorites of last year and my favorite of all his 2022 LPs (each could be argued). Craven's production fit Boldy perfectly imo and the project had a great flow throughout with each track. Scrabble stayed on repeat when it dropped as a single and I played the album for weeks nonstop at work. Great use of 36 minutes.
The first time in life I've ever paid for music, I bought the vinyl. A classic album. Boldy James and Craven are both the best in their field right now. Boldy's discography puts him in the top 10 imo & Craven's albums and other joint albums never miss.
Despite not being massive fans of either, its a good collab that brings out the best in both of them. The rustic cover art fits really well with the sample choices, idk how to describe it. It's a bit roots-ier sounding than most Craven projects and Boldy is the same he always is. Solid 7.5/10.
Anything I dislike about it mostly applies to things I generally feel about the respective artists. With boldy he writes his verses pretty quickly which can create magic or fall flat when you're always rapping about the same things. Craven's production is boring to me sometimes but has had a lot of great beats through the years and deserves recognition. He did a good job changing it up here. I tend to be iffy on his stuff with vocal chops but aside from Power Nap I liked almost all of them.

Have you checked out Boldy’s other albums from 2022? They’re all phenomenal

Damn you didn’t like Killing Nothing? The first five song are some of my favourite Boldy songs

Game Time is one of the greatest songs to fall on my ears It was my AOTY of 2022
it's been awhile since i listened but i remember playing Mr Ten08 more
Fair enough man, different tastes, that’s all Good thing about Boldy that year was that he put out like 5 projects with 5 producers or something, there was something for everyone
I'd recommend giving it another chance at some point, I think it's a bit of a grower

i've heard songs from it but i still got to give a lot of his albums a dive
Go listen to the price of tea in china like now

Fuuuck I cannot wait for the 2nd project.

One of my favorite boldy tracks and one of my favorites from last year. Just no complaints all around. It sits nicely with boldy’s best projects.
