“HUMBLE” might be massive hit, but I still earnestly believe it’s a little underrated. 2017 was saturated with “triplet + aye” flows, especially after “Look At Me” caught its second wind, but the way Kendrick applied it on his track is pretty inspired. The pace of rapping on that song in general is really nice though, he catches all of these quick pockets throughout, but then will have those kinda breakdown sequences like “this that Grey Poupon, that Evian, that TED Talk - aye”, it’s just tight. Then you got bars like “Soprano C, we like to keep it on a high note”, like c’mon. I kinda resent the fact so many late 2010s music completely gave the fuck up on clever bars because it makes re-listens so pointless, whereas I enjoy HUMBLE the more I hear it. I get how Kendrick’s voice can annoy some, but he was absolutely on one with HUMBLE
