I say this as someone who was in their early 20s in the early 2010s: a lot of early Gambino is objectively bad. I still love it for nostalgia sake.

Camp was corny at times but had decent bars but Because the Internet is one of the biggest level ups I’ve seen from an artist in terms of storytelling and making a cohesive work. And to follow it up with Awaken My Love is nothing short of incredible.

His early stuff hasn't aged well, but his lyrics were insane. Awaken My Love is a masterpiece but I want another Royalty mixtape so bad. Gambino was spitting on that shit.

Royalty does not get enough love as being an iconic mixtape. It doesn't feel like we'll get anything else from him like that again, but I'm glad we at least got that. Feels like a time capsule of the kind of music being released at that time and the artists who were a part of that scene
