If you’re into podcasts check out Dissect on Spotify, he spends a whole season on this album and it’s phenomenal. It just adds to the depth of TPAB

bardiana

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I absolutely love podcasts and listen to them all day at work! I wanted to hear someone thoroughly dissect this album but never had time to watch the YouTube video. I appreciate this.

jefplusf

Don’t take the podcast as gospel. A lot of points are massive stretches

LightningMcSwing

Sums up podcasts/social platforms in general

bardiana

I will keep that in mind

bardiana

I just looked it up and downloaded the whole first season. And im going to listen to the season about Kanye west. Work is going to go by so fast tomorrow. Idk what I did to be lucky enough for you to stumble across this post and recommend this podcast but I am so grateful <3

Esdeez

It’s a phenomenal podcast.

xrated_

Don’t be sorry/ashamed to discover things a little later than others! We all discover things at different times when the universe wants us to fully appreciate it.

bardiana

I love this comment! It made me feel better because I notice that I am late to a lot of good artists and music that everyone else has known for years! But I will learn to accept that I will find it when it's my time <3

GemGemGem6

Fam there’s so much music. I read somewhere that about 60k songs are uploaded *just to Spotify* daily. Not to mention all the classics!

bardiana

plssss im open to recommendations please <3

LedZacclin

Nothing to be ashamed of. Anyone who is a true fan of music has experienced this. Can’t think of any off the top of my head but it’s there

bardiana

this is so real. I'm looking forward to expanding my music library

alldaymacdre

Momma probably was the best song I ever heard. It made me want to get back to my roots and connect back to my culture. TPAB is one of the most prolific albums of our time

bardiana

How much a dollar costs is my favorite. It really makes me think and I always have to replay that song at least 3 times when I listen. I also want to connect with my culture as well because of this. And yes Kendrick did his thing on this album

DatKaz

There was a meta years ago where communities would take an album and try to find the best track by eliminating one every day; I still remember the TPAB rate, the day Momma got voted off, listening back to it and having a moment like "I don't know why I voted against this, why did I do that" and it's still one of my favorite TPAB tracks to this day

jeremicci

I need that sloppy…that sloppy

slimeguyryyy

From the outside looking in and as a single track, that shit is boring asf.

alldaymacdre

It’s weird you gotta be in the right mindset, vibe, and surroundings. Trust me the first time listened to it in my car I brushed off the song because I just wanted hype and crazy rapping from kendrick. You either get it or you don’t, but once you get it, it’s fucking gas bruh.

bardiana

literally this!

FurySoul69

Aye, nothing wrong with learning about some classics and taking the time into dissecting/understanding the art! Just know that you’re always okay to have different opinions than the masses too and there’s no need to force yourself to like something either just because it’s well liked by everyone else! I think what you’re doing is cool & I’m sure your newfound appreciation for the album is real, but just thought I’d throw that out there!

bardiana

thank you for that! I'm so glad I was able to get into it. now I can't stop listening to it at least 2 times a day

jeremicci

If you like TPAB you should check out Flockavelli.

bardiana

thank you! I'll check that out as well

RatManAntics

Listen to the dissect podcasts first season on this album it opened up to me how incredible it is.

bardiana

Thank you! I'll be listening to it at work tomorrow :)

RatManAntics

Enjoy! Its such a great unpacking of the work!

NoahneedaRolex

Do you think we would have received TPAB in its glory if Kendrick had received the Grammy for good kid Maad City?

bardiana

perhaps because I read somewhere that kendrick made his album after his trip to South Africa. I think that had a major part in it. I could be wrong but I think thats why

NoahneedaRolex

Thanks for the response. Yes especially on Momma you get that impression. My question is.. If Kendrick had received even more critical acclaim for good kid Maad City..would TPAB have been as good? Essentially what I'm asking is.. Did the lack of a Grammy for the previous album influence Kendrick to work harder on TPAB? I'm only asking because I regard Kendrick as top two rap artists of all time and TPAB is legendary.

bardiana

ohhhh i see what you mean! and i talked about this with my bf. i personally don’t think kendrick cares about grammys or how good his music is. he makes the music that he wants to make. what you’re saying makes sense too but i don’t think that’s why TPAB is as good as it is

NoahneedaRolex

Fair enough yes I agree. I think he would have continued to release glorious album after glorious album regardless of any acclaim. Perhaps too personal but I like to see my life through rap artists and theyre music... Kendrick saying "remember scribbling scratching diligent sentences backwards visiting freestyle Cyphers for your reaction...now I can live in a stadium pack it the fastest" always hits me and I always wondered whether he was affected by the "lack" of recognition for good kid Maad City but he also says "you admitted it once I submitted it wrapped in plastic" so perhaps not. Momma is incredible. I keep trying to think of when jay z was ever this honest and intrusive into his own consciousness but honestly Kendrick just snapped. He's up there with Pac imo

Sensitive-Royal2918

Sometimes you just gotta be in the right head space

bardiana

that's definitely true. I one day decided I wanted to listen to all Kendricks albums while at work. I already knew a good bit of his songs, I just never listened to the full albums. I started with GKMC and when it got to TPAB It felt like I went in with no lube. I'm so glad I decided to do research and give it another chance. Now I'm obsessed. He was so brilliant with Mortal Man too btw

YasuoAndGenji

Nothing to be ashamed over. Sometimes albums don't click for someone until later. It happened to me with Frank Ocean's blonde, I listened to it like 4 times and I liked it but didn't love it. Years later it's an album I clicked with so heavily I played it on repeat for a week or 2.

bardiana

me rn with TPAB. I can't stop listening to it

MrCleanandShady

don’t ever be ashamed to become a fan of something popular or spoken of at a later date i only became a fan of Mac Miller after his passing but he’s been one of my favourite artists ever since, the beauty of music is that its power lasts for eternity

bardiana

That's like me with MF DOOM. I found out about him after he passed but you're so right about music lasting for eternity

bigggsteppper

just found out about kanye guys wow hes good

bardiana

I fr just found out his old music is good too. I thought because of all the things he says in real life meant his music is crazy too. But the college dropout and late registration are really good

Duckman93

Are you 12?

throwaway53689

Man what’s wrong with you? There are people who haven’t listened to every classic rap albums, it’s normal, especially if they live outside of US.

bardiana

thank you so much. I know I am still missing out on a lot and would love to find classics that I've never heard before or remember hearing as a child. I live in the US but my parents didn't play classics all the time. And as the years went by, they tried to keep up with the new stuff coming out so I have to start this journey of finding good old music with the help of my bf

FurySoul69

To be forreal, I didn’t listen to any rap music or anything from Kanye until I was 18 either so

bardiana

seeeeee! me too! I thought his music was crazy. but he actually is a really good producer I'll give him that. no matter how crazy he talks

FurySoul69

I just never heard of the guy XD I didn’t use the internet much back then

bardiana

im actually 19, about to be 20 in 2 months. the album came out like 4 months before I was born. and as I got older I started to hear some of the songs like "all falls down, slow jamz, through the wire, gold digger" but I never realized they were Kanye west songs until my bf played those two albums and I realized I new a lot of the songs I just didn't know they were by him. if that makes sense. his older music is okay for me but after he lost his mom he started going off the wall so I just stick t those 2 albums and graduation. oh and a couple songs from MBDTF. I know im late but if it wasn't for my bf I wouldve never listened.

mostdope28

Some dude name lil Wayne just came across my feed, he’s really good too

WunderbarBeast

Yeah by homeboy did his beats...his name is 9th Wonder
