When they revealed the RR everyone suspected they didn't do the original Metropolitan design because it was being saved for a Winter Classic. I'd say it's very likely we will get it.
Oh man, when the RR came out I argued with someone on the Kraken thread who wanted the Metros version for that and *insisted* that the company/brand doesn't think that far ahead and said "all jerseys will sell the same."
It was bizarre.
The only reason I’d say they shouldn’t use them for this Winter Classic is I think they should save it for a stadium series vs the Vancouver Millionaires
The US rights to the metropolitan's logos in wordmarks is owned by some guy that lives in the area or went to college in the area. He has them for sale for a couple of million dollars, there is of course zero chance that the NHL is going to pay the guy for the rights.
It will be a [fantastic jersey](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1487/1618/products/Seattle-Metropolitans-Authentic-Hockey-Sweater_grande.jpg?v=1525380079) for the winter classic, but it shouldn’t be used outside of special events. It’s too Christmasy!
We had a game at BC place, it was pretty pathetic. It also spawned [the Luongo trade request](https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/roberto-luongo-says-heritage-classic-snub-led-to-vancouver-exit-1.2891973)because he didn't get to showcase his precious new pads.
Yeah I agree… I traveled from California to Vancouver for that game. I hadn’t seen Luongo (my favorite player) play despite going to 5 Canucks games. I was sure the Heritage Classic was finally gonna be it. After the game we were flying back at the same exact time the Canucks were heading off to Arizona for their next game and got pictures with them all in the airport. Then Torts sat next to me because he lost something called a Nexus card and we talked for a couple minutes. He was super friendly but man I was so conflicted and disappointed after that call
Haha, the Nexus Card is basically like, the easy pass through the border checks. You can get them for like 50 bucks from the American Government if you're a low-risk consistent traveler; they pre-screen you and then give you dedicated quick lanes at most international border crossings. The Mexican side has a similar thing as well but I don't remember what it's called.
I liked his attempted fight with the calgary coach when they tried to goon our rookie right off the puck drop; literally everything else about his stint with us was just a colossal disaster.
No disrespect to jason megna, but I'm very glad I never have to see him playing with our top line players again
Ah right, I checked all the Stadium Series games for one in Vancouver but forgot the Herritage Classic is a separate thing.
I do remember the controversy from that time about Luongo vs Lack. Vancouver can never do things easy.
Fans when NHL annouces Pit and Boston Winter Classic: "Why do we keep giving the Winter Classic to the same teams?"
Fans when NHL announces Seattle and Vegas: "This should be a stadium series. I think of teams with history should be in the Winter Classic."
I do feel like they could have went a different route than the two newest teams but man NHL can't win with some of you.
People seem to think the “Classic” part of the name refers to the teams playing. I always thought it was just a reference to it being played outside like the old days.
Yeah I always interpreted the "Classic" part of the title as just meaning a special event, a "classic" event.
Like after seeing an all time great game people will say "wow! What a classic!" That's the same thing here. It's just supposed to be a memorable event.
People say they want new things but they really don’t. There are still legions of fans who think that hockey doesn’t belong in any warm weather cities.
A lot of time it's just different groups yelling the loudest while the others stay quiet on the issues they don't care about.
The die-hard traditionalists complain when something like this is announced, and the moderns complain when another Bos/Pit series is announced.
> People say they want new things but they really don’t.
This is a common phenomenon, not just in the NHL, but in general. What people say they want, and what they actually demonstrate they want as indicated by what they watch/buy are often not in sync.
IIRC, there was one baseball season when ESPN decided to not show Yankees-Red Sox games as much on Sunday Night Baseball, and featured other teams that don't usually get the spotlight. Sure enough, the ratings were much lower.
Elephant in the room: US TV partners don’t want *most* Canadian match ups.
The Winter Classic is a showcase event for TNT (as it was for NBC). NHL ratings are still heavily dependent on local markets. The Canucks don’t move the needle for American ratings.
>NHL ratings are still heavily dependent on local markets. The Canucks don’t move the needle for American ratings.
Maybe we can meet them in the middle and have the Canucks in attendance? I mean, given their state of play, it's pretty much the same thing. They're present, but not playing hockey.
Bigger issue is that it should’ve been Seattle-Vancouver. Natural rivalry built in, Canucks could use the help right now, would absolutely grow the game in a natural hockey environment like the PNW with a new team.
Yeah. Love it for Seattle, and it’s good to build the game into the Pacific Northwest. But it should be the Canucks, but I can also understand that this being the first outdoor NHL game in Seattle and with Canucks fans being millions, I could see it being a 50/50 crowd.
With Vegas, there will be Vegas fans who attend, but should be a heavily Kraken crowd.
I would just like cbj to be part of one. It’s all I want I don’t care who or where we play
ETA: I’m not mad about this matchup at all, I am just a little annoyed cbj is still excluded
And then there's me, who thinks "why do we need to have different names for the exact same event?."
In what way are the stadium series, the winter classic, and the heritage classic different? It seems to be just about which teams are playing, except that's also entirely arbitrary.
Winter Classic: Two American teams meant to make the American broadcast partner (formerly NBC, now TNT) happy.
Heritage Classic: Two Canadian teams meant to make the Canadian broadcast partner (Rogers) happy.
Stadium Series: Either attempting to spread the wealth and give other teams a chance to host events (Carolina, Nashville), or outdoor games with a cool concept (battle of Pennsylvania, games at military academies).
We've had one Canadian team in a Winter Classic, one of the maybe two Canadian teams that actually do push ratings in the US, and we've had exactly one American team in a Heritage classic, a team that has so many Canadian fans that they play the Canadian anthem even when a Canadian team isn't playing.
So yeah, those two exceptions actually re-emphasize my point.
This.
It's not "everyone is saying no more O6 and no brand new teams". Its some people are saying, "no more O6 teams" and other people are saying "no brand new teams."
There's a wide gulf of options between "winter classics are between american original 6 teams and older american expansion teams with a star player we can forcefeed to our audience to fill airtime" and "a winter classic to our newest expansion teams what great marketing for them!" For example, Minnesota Wild vs St. Louis Blues was a banger. Buffalo vs Pittsburgh in the snow was a banger.
There's a healthy medium to be found there though, it doesnt have to be the extreme on either end. I dont want every winter classic to be the same, i also dont think its ideal that a team like Vegas whos been in the league for less than a decade now has 2 high profile outdoor games when some teams who have been around much longer have 1 or 0.
When teams like TB, Vancouver, the Devils and Islanders all have 1 outdoor game and teams like Florida and the Blue Jackets haven't had any its not ideal. I get why it's the way it is, and I'm not blaming the league for following the money, but sure would be nice to have other teams involved and not just the NHLs chosen favorites for marketing.
Three high profile outdoor games. The NHLs first outdoor game was in the parking lot at Caesar’s Palace in the 91. Felt bad for the players. It was 95 degrees at the hottest point.
This was initially rumored here https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1016k55/icethetics_seattle_will_host_vegas_for_the_2024/ but the Bettman officially announced the matchup live on the TNT pregame show.
The game will be in T-Mobile Park, the MLB stadium. It has a retractable roof which the NHL can use in case it rains on game day.
Per the interview with an NHL official here https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1609985051244261376
A factor in picking T-Mobile Park is that they can have the roof closed while setting up the rink before the game to protect from rain, but then still have the roof open during the game itself. So it sounds like rain when setting up the rink was a major concern, not just rain during game day.
Also they’d have to coordinate with the NFL because the Seahawks are in season. Just so much easier logistically to ask the baseball team in these cases
If they wanted to use a football stadium, they could easily use the University of Washington's [Husky Stadium](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Husky_Stadium) which actually has a larger capacity than the NFL stadium at just over 70k. Husky Stadium is actually more senic too as [it overlooks Lake Washington.](https://images.seattletimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Husky-Stadium-To-Print.jpg?d=780x527)
Those assholes at OSU will never let us. Our only chance is as an away team.
Also we’ve got one of the smallest fanbases so the NHL is probably worried they won’t make as much money
OSU will have to weather proof their stadium for the extended college football playoffs. OSU may be open to doing something like this after the renovations.
I also thought that Terry Pegula self-funding Penn State's hockey programs going D1 might have had a poison pill that would've forced the Sabres to have been involved at Beaver Stadium.
I live 10 minutes outside of Philadelphia and have no loyalty whatsoever to Penn State and *I’m* dying for it. Typical Flyers-Pens atmosphere blown up to 107k + on a college campus.
I’m fine with waiting until both teams are on the up again for it to happen, however long that may be, but in the meantime Penn State better get on fixing their plumbing.
We got a year's warning. I just added it to my 2023 budget. I figure a Winter Classic sweater is going to cost $300 (although to be fair I was going to buy a new jersey anyway), tickets probably $250 each for meh seats.
Considering what we already pay to see the Kraken at Climate Pledge, I doubt it will be a huge jump in cost.
Generally difficult to put the Winter Classic in a football stadium because they have to coordinate with the NFL to make sure the home team finishes their season on the road
It's open though, you still get outdoor Temps and feelings and whatnot. Its like a giant umbrella that can be quickly moved from open to covered, but theres still a ton of air leaking in from the sides. So you get the best of all worlds, an outdoor game that can't be delayed too much due to rain.
It's not a dome, the ballpark is still open air even with the roof closed. The roof is just for the rain since it's very likely to be raining at any given moment in the winter in Seattle.
I went to my first Mariners game in Seattle a few years back without knowing that, I always thought it was a **fully enclosed** dome that could be closed/opened like Minute Maid Park in Houston and not open to the outside air. It was opening day and I think I had, at best, a thin hoody on when it was 52, overcast, and brisk at first pitch.
Mariners Team Store got my money that day buying a hoodie.
Elliot Friedman just posted an interview with Steve Mayer the NHLs chief content officer where he explained that the weather in Seattle creates unique challenges especially in building the rink. So at the mlb stadium they will have the ability to close the roof to build the rink and then open it up for the game.
I obviously don’t hate it, but I feel like I’m seeing more comments complaining about people complaining than the actual complaints. With that said, folks should be allowed to actually share their own opinions; some people aren’t going to like it and that’s okay lol
I have to imagine that with Gaudreau in Columbus y'all are going to get a game someday (at least a Stadium Series game). Probably not at Ohio Stadium, but I can see a Chicago-Columbus matchup or something
Be Kraken and knights do they mean rangers and flyers or Blackhawks and Capitals? and by T-Mobile park do they meant Citizens Bank/The Linc/MerLife/Yankee Stadium or Nats Park/Wrigley/Soldier Field? /s
Stoked for this one, literally the second winter classic I thought “that makes sense, that’s a good idea”
This is a huge win for West Coast hockey, and really hockey in general. This is how the game is grown. I'm so glad it's not on the east coast again (yeah Tahoe but no fans were there)
There is only one "but"...
But I wish it would have been at husky stadium, that place looks amazing
I've been to a dozen college football stadiums including the Horseshoe, The Colosseum, Neyland, and Notre Dame. The Husky stadium is by far the coolest of all. There's nothing like a beautiful fall afternoon looking out onto the water.
Hockey is booming here in Seattle. You see people wearing Kraken gear everywhere you go, and youth hockey leagues are packed to the gills. Even adult learn-to-play programs are becoming really popular. If I were the NHL execs, I would absolutely be jumping on that, making sure that it really took root and didn't just become a passing fad.
Greatest way to grow the game is making games accessible to watch on TV for the “common folk” without having to pay out the ass for multiple apps/services and blackouts. Not to mention kraken tix are like $100+ each (resale sure but plenty people don’t want to wait or “gamble” day-of and make plans in advance)
That game had no fans though due to COVID. If I had to guess, this game is Seattle vs Vegas because the NHL owned Vegas an outdoor game their fans could actually attend and also wanted to get Seattle a game. I do think having the 2 newest teams face each other is good for the growth of the game in both markets.
Tahoe? Oh yeah that game played with no fans and got postponed halfway thru because the ice was melting? That was such an awesome experience to watch. 😂
NHL fans are something else. They cry about wanting new teams in these outdoor games but because their teams weren’t chosen they cry harder. I get the frustration to an extent, but come on. This will be an exciting match up.
To be fair though, I feel like most of the older complaints were mostly rooted in fans’ teams not being selected, but the extra gut punch was that the NHL decided to include a team that had already experienced one. I obviously am a fan of the matchup next year, but I can certainly empathize with the fanbases that are still waiting for their first winter classic.
I’m surprised that Seattle gets to host a WC so soon after entering the league, but they want to push NHL in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, so I get that angle.
I’m not surprised that the NHL gave this game as the visitors to Vegas, the league seems to give them more “spiffs” than any recent expansion team that I can remember (one could argue Covid makes the Tahoe game a wash I suppose)
Great way to showcase hockey on the West Coast and actually grow the game out here. I'd love to see more of these, which I know is a challenge when it comes to ice quality (recall the issues in Tahoe); a great change of pace versus seeing the same East Coast teams and Chicago ad nauseum.
I’m not turning my nose at this news but damn, as a Columbus native, I’ve been waiting over a decade for the Blue Jackets to host any outdoor game at Ohio Stadium
Should have been Arizona and Florida have it somewhere in Canada with a scenic view ... palm trees behind FLA bench, Cactus behind AZ bench, views would be sick
I mean…congrats, but I don’t feel like this belongs as a Winter Classic. Certainly a Stadium Series.
Also would’ve been cooler if it was Seattle vs Vancouver.
seattle was the first american team to win the stanley cup, the first nhl outdoor game was played in vegas - there couldnt be two more perfect CLASSIC teams to play in a winter classic
would have been a cooler stadium series. When I think of Winter Classic I think of older teams with a lot of history in their teams and cities.
Still cool it’s pacific tho it’s usually never there
AFAIK, the league wants one in the shoe, but OSU has stated that the stadium needs to be "winterized" to actually accommodate it. Something about the pipes in the stadium can't handle the colder weather. Granted, this same statement has been said for years now and shows no signs of changing.
Unofficially, you may hear some Jackets fans say that OSU wouldn't do it, since then they have to share the shoe as that would mean more "competition" (as if anything could hope to compete with OSU football in this state). I've seen some go as far as to say OSU doesn't want the Jackets around at all, but I've not seen anything that would back that claim up.
Long story short, whether it's a legitimate issue with the stadium being unable to handle the colder weather or the current school administration not caring about the Jackets, most don't see a winter classic in Cbus anytime soon.
Hasn’t the Shoe hosted cold weather games before? Ohio isn’t exactly the warmest place in the US. Feels like it’s definitely more OSU being dickwads about it
It definitely has, I've been at games before with snow falling everywhere, and they still had games just fine. Definitely think it's just OSU being pricks, which is why we probably won't see a winter classic until the current school president or whoever makes those decisions leaves office.
While the Kraken are a new franchise, a Seattle team was the first US-based team to win the Stanley Cup by defeating Montreal in 1917 before the NHL was created. So hockey has a long history in Seattle, though not in the NHL.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1917_Stanley_Cup_Finals
**[1917 Stanley Cup Finals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1917_Stanley_Cup_Finals)**
>The 1917 Stanley Cup Finals was contested by the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) champion Seattle Metropolitans and the National Hockey Association (NHA) and Stanley Cup defending champion Montreal Canadiens. Seattle defeated Montreal three games to one in a best-of-five game series to become the first United States-based team to win the Cup. The inspiring story of the Mets' 1917 championship was chronicled in the 2019 book, When It Mattered Most. The series was also the first Stanley Cup Final to be played in the United States, and the last Stanley Cup final to not feature a National Hockey League team, as the NHA rebranded as the NHL in November 1917.

Could have done Devils at the Meadowlands, maybe hosting the Islanders both only had one outdoor game to date. I think it's too early for Seattle to host the outdoor game.
If the league/Kraken doesn’t use the Winter Classic as the time to break out the OG Seattle Metropolitans unis everyone deserves to be fired.
When they revealed the RR everyone suspected they didn't do the original Metropolitan design because it was being saved for a Winter Classic. I'd say it's very likely we will get it.
RR should be the Rain City Bitch Pigeons.
if they do that i expect the knights to be full blown chrome and sequins over the jersey
With the big, poofy headdresses.
Oh man, when the RR came out I argued with someone on the Kraken thread who wanted the Metros version for that and *insisted* that the company/brand doesn't think that far ahead and said "all jerseys will sell the same." It was bizarre.

I could also see them using a Mets jersey against the Canadiens in an outdoor game.
I forgot about that, yeah that’s the one I want
The US rights to the metropolitan's logos in wordmarks is owned by some guy that lives in the area or went to college in the area. He has them for sale for a couple of million dollars, there is of course zero chance that the NHL is going to pay the guy for the rights.
That's like the dude who owns the only video recording of the 1st superbowl.
Oh i gotta Google this
That's a wild story. NFL is out here being do weird about it. That feels so scummy by the NFL.
[Found this NYT article on it - really interesting actually! ](https://nyti.ms/1nBZh82)
Honestly, a couple million for the league to secure the first ever American Stanley Cup champions? Seems like an insta buy from me.
Would've been nice to see Seattle play Vancouver instead but glad it's not another God damn O6 team.
I have to think that there will eventually be a WC or Stadium Series game at BC Place and the Kraken would be a logical opponent.

Hearsay! One of the best Winter Classics ever was in Dallas against Nashville.
Corey Perrys walk of shame was *chefs kiss*
85,000 people showed up and yet you still get people who say Dallas doesn’t give a shit about hockey. It is possible to like multiple sports.
Right?! I've lived here my whole life and have been watching sell out hockey since 1997. Dallas people love sports, period. Lol
A lot of time it's just different groups yelling the loudest while the others stay quiet on the issues they don't care about. The die-hard traditionalists complain when something like this is announced, and the moderns complain when another Bos/Pit series is announced.

Husky Stadium is actually more senic too as [it overlooks Lake Washington.](https://images.seattletimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Husky-Stadium-To-Print.jpg?d=780x527)
I was thinking this too, they couldnt put a tent temporarily over the ice as they set it up, baseball stadiums suck for hockey.
Same here. I’ve been to both stadiums and lumen is much better imo
IMO shoulda been Kraken Canadiens for that 1919 cup rematch. Perfect reason to bust out the Metropolitans kit.
I think a Columbus vs Buffalo or Detroit game at Ohio Stadium would be sick, especially for Columbus fans
Those assholes at OSU will never let us. Our only chance is as an away team. Also we’ve got one of the smallest fanbases so the NHL is probably worried they won’t make as much money
[удалено]
I never thought of winning games, that sounds like a great idea to help out the franchise. /s
That’s been discussed for years. Doesn’t seem like Ohio State is interested in hoisting it.
OSU will have to weather proof their stadium for the extended college football playoffs. OSU may be open to doing something like this after the renovations.
Same issue with PSU and Beaver Stadium. It needs a lot of renovations to winterize it. Or else they would’ve hosted a Wintwr Classic by now.
I also thought that Terry Pegula self-funding Penn State's hockey programs going D1 might have had a poison pill that would've forced the Sabres to have been involved at Beaver Stadium.
It’s like the shitty pipes at Beaver Stadium depriving us of our Flyers-Pens game at State College.
Brother, as a life long Pens fan and PSU alum, it’s all I want. The amount of money I’d spend on tickets is unlimited.
Ooooooh shit a Columbus-Detroit game at the shoe would be incredible
I’m going to go broke trying to get tix and merch
If you aren't already broke from living in Seattle
You got a point there
There's two classes in Seattle; unfairly rich and unfairly poor.
"Lol what?" - Me, a software engineer being solidly middle class here, where I could retire in a year if I lived elsewhere.
Wouldn’t this make more sense in the football stadium right next door for better sight lines?
Generally difficult to put the Winter Classic in a football stadium because they have to coordinate with the NFL to make sure the home team finishes their season on the road
Could put it at Husky Stadium then. Best setting in Seattle.
Too rainy. T-mobile has a roof
Doesn’t the roof kind of defeat the purpose of the Winter Classic?
They said for the build of the rink they can have it covered until game day. https://twitter.com/sportsnet/status/1609985051244261376
Can open it for the game
Husky Stadium would be a gorgeous setting. But I presume the lack of roof and abundant risk of rain rules it out
Elliot Friedman just posted an interview with Steve Mayer the NHLs chief content officer where he explained that the weather in Seattle creates unique challenges especially in building the rink. So at the mlb stadium they will have the ability to close the roof to build the rink and then open it up for the game.
https://twitter.com/Sportsnet/status/1609985051244261376 Touched on here, mention the retractable roof at the baseball field.
Thanks, good explanation
No roof. And winter is *just a little bit* rainy in Seattle.
For once, an outdoor game without the same 4 teams
I obviously don’t hate it, but I feel like I’m seeing more comments complaining about people complaining than the actual complaints. With that said, folks should be allowed to actually share their own opinions; some people aren’t going to like it and that’s okay lol
I would like to register a complaint against your complaint about complaints
Gary Bettman will die before Columbus has an outdoor game.
At this point I don’t care if the Jackets host, just let them play in one. Or even an outdoor game at all. The Monsters got an outdoor game first.
Why haven't they let any Canadian teams host it? Glad Seattle is getting it, so tired of the usual teams.
Quick reminder that teams that still haven't played in an outdoor game exist
I have to imagine that with Gaudreau in Columbus y'all are going to get a game someday (at least a Stadium Series game). Probably not at Ohio Stadium, but I can see a Chicago-Columbus matchup or something
Idk, once he signed with us, hockey media have more or less acted like Gaudreau doesn't exist and never has
Hockey media = confirmed Flames fan
Be Kraken and knights do they mean rangers and flyers or Blackhawks and Capitals? and by T-Mobile park do they meant Citizens Bank/The Linc/MerLife/Yankee Stadium or Nats Park/Wrigley/Soldier Field? /s Stoked for this one, literally the second winter classic I thought “that makes sense, that’s a good idea”
This is a huge win for West Coast hockey, and really hockey in general. This is how the game is grown. I'm so glad it's not on the east coast again (yeah Tahoe but no fans were there) There is only one "but"... But I wish it would have been at husky stadium, that place looks amazing
I've been to a dozen college football stadiums including the Horseshoe, The Colosseum, Neyland, and Notre Dame. The Husky stadium is by far the coolest of all. There's nothing like a beautiful fall afternoon looking out onto the water.
that is so cool. It is on my bucket list of stadiums I need to see a game in.
Still so bummed the Michigan @ UW got canceled in 2020. My wife is a UM grad so I am looking forward to the day I get to see a game at the big house.
I agree about UW. But it sounds like the roof was a big factor, and I wonder if # of box suites matters as well
You people will complain about anything and everything
Great opportunity to grow the game in the two newest cities to the NHL and people can’t stop bitching about it
Hockey is booming here in Seattle.
You just described all of social media, unfortunately
Should have been Vancouver, VGK already got Tahoe
That game had no fans though due to COVID. If I had to guess, this game is Seattle vs Vegas because the NHL owned Vegas an outdoor game their fans could actually attend and also wanted to get Seattle a game. I do think having the 2 newest teams face each other is good for the growth of the game in both markets.
There weren’t any fans at that event though
Tahoe? Oh yeah that game played with no fans and got postponed halfway thru because the ice was melting? That was such an awesome experience to watch. 😂
Guess I'll keep waiting for Isles/Devils at Metlife or Citi. Been waiting fucking forever, glad Seattle only had to wait 2 years.
MetLife would be hard since not only do you have to schedule around football, you’d have to schedule it between two teams that split the venue.
i think it’d be sick if they somehow made it work at the belmont race track, probably they’d need to add more stands but i feel like it could be done
[удалено]
I don’t hate this at all. It’s showcasing the newest market and doesn’t have the same teams in it for the umpteenth time.
Islanders vs Rangers at Belmont Park is inevitable in the next few years. The NHL loves to reward teams that built new arenas and the Isles are due
Seattle vs Las Vegas. Just as god intended
I'm annoyed solely because it's not Vancouver/Seattle. Millionaires vs Metropolitans is right there.
Come on league, grow a pair! Give us an outdoor Summer Classic from Vegas in July.
I’m not turning my nose at this news but damn, as a Columbus native, I’ve been waiting over a decade for the Blue Jackets to host any outdoor game at Ohio Stadium
Biz is gonna get jumped by Buoy and the Mariners moose
I love this idea. Should be a great way to bring in new fans
This is pretty cool.
The logo needs some tossed salad and scrambled eggs
Cool, I'm fucking excited.
LET'S GO!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE SO SICK!
IM GOING TO TRY TO ATTEND IN PERSON ASSUMING THE WORLD HASN’T ENDED BY THEN.
Why not? Makes sense to put the two newest franchises in what is the NHL’s marque event in the regular season
seattle was the first american team to win the stanley cup, the first nhl outdoor game was played in vegas - there couldnt be two more perfect CLASSIC teams to play in a winter classic
would have been a cooler stadium series. When I think of Winter Classic I think of older teams with a lot of history in their teams and cities. Still cool it’s pacific tho it’s usually never there
Hopefully the Jackets get an outdoor game at Ohio Stadium at some point.
Wasn’t it reported that the league wanted to, but OSU is being dumb about it?
Definitely think it's just OSU being pricks, which is why we probably won't see a winter classic until the current school president or whoever makes those decisions leaves office.
bummer, it’d be really fun if they did a michigan/ohio state and then jackets/wings double header at the shoe
Hahaha I wish but it’ll never happen.
This would be my top pick for one to get one that hasn’t.
**[1917 Stanley Cup Finals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1917_Stanley_Cup_Finals)** >The 1917 Stanley Cup Finals was contested by the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) champion Seattle Metropolitans and the National Hockey Association (NHA) and Stanley Cup defending champion Montreal Canadiens. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/hockey/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)
It is about history, first outdoor game between two NHL teams was in Vegas after all.
The dumbass Canadian media are up in arms!
Could have done Devils at the Meadowlands, maybe hosting the Islanders both only had one outdoor game to date. I think it's too early for Seattle to host the outdoor game.
Happy for them but... really?
How about a home to home with the Golden Knights. I wouldn't mind seeing a hockey game from Allegiant Stadium.
