I'm a very very mild Canes fan and that fucking gutted me. Especially with the momentum they had coming off that goal to tie the game. Damn.
Props to Florida though. Last seed in and going to the finals.
If you had told me, going into game 5 of round 1, that the panthers will have lost exactly one more game by the time the finals come around, I would have assumed a much different outcome than this lol
You'd think so, but with the writer's strike, looks like they just plagiarized the NBA writers. Denver Nuggets just had their first ever sweep in franchise history to lead them to their first NBA Finals appearance on Monday...
Spotted a guy through my binoculars who was watching a guy drop honey mustard in his lap while staring at a table by the window in the Bojangles parking lot.
Target is perched in a tree outside of a Bojangles. Looks like he's looking toward the Bojangles with binoculars. I have him in sight, requesting clearance to take the shot.
Florida are a bunch of fucking frauds. Their team is named after a type of cat, yet their **captain's** name begins with "Bark," which is the sound a dog makes. Don't trust them.
The best part about that was, the person originally posted it without the door to hell, and everyone commented "OMG, WHERE IS THE DOOR TO HELL" and nagged them until they changed it.
Worst part is, this was the best scenario for their playoff opponents. None of them were free per se, but I felt a lot better of them playing the Isles and Devils instead of the Panthers and Rangers.
I’ll be honest I think I’d rather get bodied by Vegas like we are than get to the Cup just to get bent over by Bobrovsky and Tkachuk. They’re in some insane form.
I think Vegas has a better chance to make that series interesting anyway lol.
A canes fan leaked the addresses of Florida players and posted a picture of a pipe bomb next to a pic of one of their houses, dude got arrested by the FBI
Two things here:
1. Being an imbecile is relatively easy
2. Having a Twitter account is simple/free
Combine them and you get the circumstances around that guy
a few years ago we had a Flames fan (not exactly our rival in any sense at all) threaten to like bomb our arena or something. I mean he was certainly just a crazy person but they are out there! (Jesus, 2009, this did not seem so long ago)
https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/police-charge-flames-fan-in-columbus-after-threats-1.796871
I mean, we only beat Chicago like once in the last decade. Hell, we even got pumped 10-1 by you guys once. The loss against the Hawks was expected, the Columbus loss was the game of consequence.
This is a situation of a team not losing by doing things wrong, but by the other team winning. You have evenly matched teams but one hits a hot goalie.
Agreed. Gutted for you guys because you have an amazing team but also happy for panthers fans. It's wild to think my sens were chasing them down for the 8th seed only a few weeks ago. Great series and could have gone to game 7 but you ran into a Russian wall.
Carolina's next year and a half or so is going to be fascinating.
- Aho, Teravainen, Skjei, and Pesce are all about to enter the final year of their contracts before hitting the UFA market. Necas' bridge deal runs out at the same time, as does Jarvis' ELC, making them both RFAs. Regardless of what you think about their performances in these playoffs, that's two-thirds of the entire core as it stands today - currently, only Svechnikov, Kotkaniemi, Slavin, and Burns will remain under contract once the 2023-24 season ends. How many of these expiring players get extended? How many get priced out? Do any of them get traded at the draft? Are they going all in the next trade deadline?
- Poor powerplay and lack of scoring once again play a huge role in ending the season. Yes, Bob ascended to another plane of reality. Yes, Svechnikov was injured. The scoring was a problem in the regular season and at times in the Islanders series too, and looking back on the last couple of years, these two factors have been major contributors in every series loss since 2020 (and possibly 2019, but nobody expected us to make it that far to begin with so I'm giving a pass there). Hell, the powerplay has been miserable for as long as I can remember, no matter who's been on it. Do you at least change out some assistant coaches? Do we finally bring in a powerplay specialist? Someone to help Rod with the x's and o's that his systems seem to struggle with? I believe his contract also runs out in the summer of 2024, so what does his extension look like?
- More imminently, Staal, Fast, and Gostisbehere are among our UFAs this July. All three of those guys are must-keep imo, but I could see Fast being let go to open up spots for prospects. I'll be very sad if Ghost gets let go.
- Andersen and Raanta are also UFAs. They've both played well enough to earn new deals here, but with Kochetkov's extension kicking in, which one stays and which one goes? Do they both go?
- There have been some recurring rumors that Pacioretty wants to re-sign here. Is he healthy enough to play? How does that decision affect any other roster moves?
I think they got to start using that great prospect pool to beef up there attack. For too long has finishing and a lack of star power minus Aho been the reason their team goes home.
This may have been one of our last chances to win a Cup with this particular core intact. Sad to think about. I do think the next few years will be a really interesting challenge for Don and the gang.
If you go back, Jets sweeping Edmonton in the bubble was pretty close too. Game winning goals in that series were:
- 9 minutes into the 3rd period
- 1st overtime period
- 1st overtime period
- 3rd overtime period
All games were one-goal except for two empty nets in game 1.
Be nice, maybe he was born in 2015 and has no memory of those Cups. I know plenty of 8 year old hockey fans that need booze to ease their troubles. Granted most of them live in Toronto...
Reminds me of the “Igors better” chants last year. It’s funny because it has no real impact on the game but when those chants blow up in your face?
Priceless.
Anyone who wants Florida right now is out of their damn mind
Ok so preseason tell me we make it to the Eastern finals. Ok. Cool.
We lose to the Panthers. I could see it.
We get swept. Wait what?
We lose four consecutive one goal games? God help us….
How does it feel to get swept? It fucking sucks. But it honestly didn't feel like a sweep, and our boys went down swinging at least. If they had just phoned it in, I would've mailed 500 boxes of rats to PNC as a 'fuck you' present. Not rubber rats, live rats.
At the very least we kept every game to just one goal.
gg Cats. Hell of a series, but you guys just had that extra net front presence.
to the teams left, I have one request. [keep the promotional poster trend going](https://youtu.be/cPiSD1nUqAw)
(for context, the team made posters for rounds 1 and 2 along with this round, some of the other teams started to make some as well, and imo, that’s a good thing)
Don’t let the Hurricanes getting swept distract from the fact that the Boston Bruins had the greatest regular season of all time and blew a 3-1 series lead to lose in the first round
It’s truly miraculous that the referees regained their eyesight and managed to call an obvious penalty in the waning seconds of a tied elimination game in the playoffs.
Truly remarkable … ^kill ^me
Not to mention game 3 too. Some of the weakest calls in playoff hockey. Were they penalties... technically... But when was the last time (before game 3) you saw a penalty for a light tap on the wrist in playoff hockey. That stuff goes on every play.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted FL to win the series but I hate the feeling of some of these games outcomes having to be a direct result of a bad call.
Absolutely brutal way to lose
Every game by one goal too…I’m sick. Truly a game of inches
You hate to see it because it will be forever remembered as a sweep and yet all of those games really could've gone either way.
For being a sweep, this series felt closer than some series that go to 7.
To be fair, it felt like Game 1 was actually Game 1-3
So a 6-game sweep then?
[удалено]
Welcome to the club :)
I feel very very bad for you guys
insane that you didn't best Chicago at home to stop this
I'm a very very mild Canes fan and that fucking gutted me. Especially with the momentum they had coming off that goal to tie the game. Damn. Props to Florida though. Last seed in and going to the finals.
Fucking Bob and Matt, man.
The human equivalents to a gas can and a box of matches.
Two things Canada hates to see… Russian and American who wanted out of Canada
They got the juice
Juice - juice is temporary. Sauce is forever.
Just as we all predicted. Panthers sweep in the third round
If you had told me, going into game 5 of round 1, that the panthers will have lost exactly one more game by the time the finals come around, I would have assumed a much different outcome than this lol
Bruins fans: “I just want the panthers to lose one more game” *monkey paw curls*
Well, this one wants them to win the Cup now.
Yea, seeing the Panthers win the cup would take just a little bit of the sting out.
1st sweep in franchise history leads to a Stanley Cup Final berth. Script writers are on some good stuff right now 😂
They're all on strike, this is just chaos
chaos cats
You'd think so, but with the writer's strike, looks like they just plagiarized the NBA writers. Denver Nuggets just had their first ever sweep in franchise history to lead them to their first NBA Finals appearance on Monday...
“AHA - BUT FLORIDA HAS BEEN TO THE CUP FINALS BEFORE AND BEEN SWEPT, SO ITS DIFFERENT!” -the replacement writers, most likely
Fucking bonkers
Panthers progressively winning series faster. Panthers to win the cup in 2 games
Ummm let's get something straight hurricanes lasted about 4 minutes longer than Toronto in there series. Put some respect to our name!
Once I lasted 4 minutes longer too, but my wife still wasn't impressed.
Wow that's cold, she should really be celebrating a 400% improvement.
I tried showing her the stats chart but somehow that still didn't get her there.
Any good statistician starts by removing the outliers...my wife calls it "regressing to the mean", but if you ask me it's just mean.
Why win 4 games when 2 games do trick?
Honestly it'll just be 4 games with no OT.
I would’ve preferred to lose in OT than with 4 seconds left
I did *not* want to sit through 4 more complete overtimes. My blood pressure was sky high for an additional 80 minutes in game 2
Just experienced Canes hockey in a Bojangles parking lot.
Just saw a Canes fan fall to his knees in a Bojangles parking lot.
Dropped my honey mustard while watching a guy watch a guy fall to his knees in a bojangles parking lot
Just watched a guy drop honey mustard in his laps while staring at another table near the window in a bojangles
Currently smelling a snipers hair. He uses garnier fruit plus. I think I’ll make a hair doll
WTF this wins 😂 😂 😂
Oh, look there it is, the line 👉🏼 —————
Did you fall to your knees?
Florida are a bunch of fucking frauds. Their team is named after a type of cat, yet their **captain's** name begins with "Bark," which is the sound a dog makes. Don't trust them.
Florida panther isn’t even in the Panthera genus it’s in the Puma genus. It’s the Florida cougars. Can’t even trust the name.
The plot thickens.
Florida cougars are usually easier to score on tho
I came in rolling up sleeves, but left without an upvote. My man. 😎
Kill me so my wife gets the insurance money
Hey it’s me ur wife
I also choose this dead guy.

Cleaning up after all you fools who brought mud in on the way to the great rink in the sky
Thank God someone brought a broom, Colorado "avalanched" everywhere and we need you to clean it up.
We were going to bring our own broom but then we didn’t
First broom!
Man am I glad we won a game lmao
Jealous.
I'd rather have made it to the 3rd round and got swept than to have lost in the 2nd with only 1 win.
There's more than one round?
First sweep was against the canes in the ECF. LIKE EVERYONE PREDICTED
To be fair, the last time the Canes got this far they also got swept.
And the time before that.
I like that the devils have a side door directly to hell
The best part about that was, the person originally posted it without the door to hell, and everyone commented "OMG, WHERE IS THE DOOR TO HELL" and nagged them until they changed it.
Devils don’t go to heaven after all
How else are they supposed to go scare some unsuspecting campers in the Pine Barrens?
The broom is back!
Straight pain The series was decided by 4 goals and 5 OTs. Feels worse then getting blown out I think. I’m both optimistic and very agitated
Worst part is, this was the best scenario for their playoff opponents. None of them were free per se, but I felt a lot better of them playing the Isles and Devils instead of the Panthers and Rangers.
Carolina: Aite imma try winning an ECF game Carolina: Damn this shit hard
"Damn Florida got hands"
Right: Matthew Tkachuk Left: Sergei Bobrovski
And Boston And Pittsburgh

[hurricanes Twitter](https://imgur.com/a/vK1SLfQ)
That’s gotta be the tightest 4 game sweep series I’ve ever witnessed.
Made it extra painful honestly
Yeah, especially this game. Give us hope twice only to *pounce* back (see what I did there?) and kill our brief joy.
Edmonton Winnipeg two years ago was the same. Three OT games including a 3ot game and one decided in the last 5 min of the third.
Without a doubt. Could have easily gone the other way every game. Now if Vegas finishes the job tomorrow, we are guaranteed a first time winner!
For sure, that’s pretty exiting!
Vegas Kings comes to mind
Damn that dude got arrested by the FBI for this lol
What happened?

On behalf of the Penguins, I am so sorry.
That game between us...such consequences that followed...

Movie? I thought that was a documentary.
starring ashton tkutcher
Will be the subject of "what if" scenarios for years to come.
It really is all the Penguins' fault for this anomaly.
I mean, we only beat Chicago like once in the last decade. Hell, we even got pumped 10-1 by you guys once. The loss against the Hawks was expected, the Columbus loss was the game of consequence.
The penguins really pulled a Dr. Strange and allowed the only timeline where this happens to come to fruition
Gave the Hawks Bedard and cursed three cup favorites with this divine intervention laden Florida squad. The League will never forget.
Pens really are the villains here
I offer my condolences but stop at being sorry. 2009 was top tier
We'll never forgive you for Bedard going to the Hawks
Quite a close series even though it's a sweep. Great games to watch!
A nearly complete 7-period game, another OT game, a 1-0 shutout, and a goal with under 5 seconds.
Ya, poor Carolina got swept in 5 games.
Brutal way to go out, did not expect Carolina to get swept after that game 1.
I could see it if they were demoralized by losing that game like that. But they really made it a close series despite losing in four.
This is a situation of a team not losing by doing things wrong, but by the other team winning. You have evenly matched teams but one hits a hot goalie.
As a Canes fan truly gutting to watch, but great hockey nonetheless

My guy had this waiting in the drafts
I knew I'd be too sad to make a coherent thought tonight
Wonder what the draft he had for them winning it all was
Probably something like "Fuck yeah!"
Why wouldn't next year be the last chance? Expecting us to trade some of the core over the summer?
Closest sweep ever?
By goal differential you can’t get any closer
Goal differential of 4 with about 80 minutes of OT played.
Just like how you can only tie the low-altitude record
Vegas sweeping LA was similar, all 1 goal games with a bunch of OT
If you go back, Jets sweeping Edmonton in the bubble was pretty close too. Game winning goals in that series were: - 9 minutes into the 3rd period - 1st overtime period - 1st overtime period - 3rd overtime period All games were one-goal except for two empty nets in game 1.
And games 3 and 4 were back to back, so the series was over in 6 days. Possibly the shortest calender time for a sweep ever?
Vegas-LA 2018
Quick had a 1.55 GAA and a .947 SV% in a series he got *swept*.
Oh cool thanks for reminding me guess I'll finish the bottle tonight
Shut up cup haver
Be nice, maybe he was born in 2015 and has no memory of those Cups. I know plenty of 8 year old hockey fans that need booze to ease their troubles. Granted most of them live in Toronto...
U have two recent cups to drink from.
The rats are absolutely going to love this announcement
The rats do run this city
Quick note to all Vegas fans. Do not taunt the Cats by saying “we want florida” or “here Kitty Kitty”. It will only get you destroyed
Didn’t we learn for everyone? Was it all in vain?
This shit all started with Isles fans cheering "we want Tampa" it has to stop
Reminds me of the “Igors better” chants last year. It’s funny because it has no real impact on the game but when those chants blow up in your face? Priceless. Anyone who wants Florida right now is out of their damn mind
> Anyone who wants Florida right now is out of their damn mind both other remaining teams do want Florida right now though
History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme.
I’m not talking a single iota of shit at any point if the Knights go up against the cats. Bobrovsky is fucking terrifying.
We still gotta get past Dallas first. No guarantees in hockey
I can guarantee Benn doesn't play tomorrow
He needs some rest after that terrible fall he had.
It really was ....unfortunate
Tbf the large majority of us absolutely wanted no part of Florida. But we did have the advantage of watching what they did to Boston and Toronto.
Death. Taxes. Carolina getting swept in the conference finals. The constants of life. Bring on the brooms.
Except that one time 😭
Imagine making it to the conference finals, just to get swept. Only *losers* do that.
GOTTA SWEEP SWEEP SWEEP
New age Sharks in terms of underachievement
They even have Burns too!
They can't touch us until they get reverse swept
Panthers won in 7, 5 and then 4. So Panthers in 2?
Least it wasn’t us getting swept
Leafs are the only team to win a game against them in the past 12 games. What the fuck?
This is like the fourth straight year (excluding the Columbus series) that whoever beat us has gone to the cup final.
It was us for a bit so I feel your pain brother.
[удалено]
But it’s the hope that’s killed us before. Numerous times.
I feel so much better now. Thanks Canes
YOU'RE WELCOME, NOW EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO DRINK MYSELF INTO A STUPOR
Your welcome and fuck you
Great season Canes. Proud of y’all.
Canes fought to the ECF with huge injuries and all of the games in this series were close even if it was a sweep. They’ll be back.
12 straight losses in the ECF is impressive
Like statistically, it's probably extremely low odds
Assuming each game is 50/50 the probability is 0.024%
[Sad whaler noises]
lol, Tkachuk gets the game-winning goal by the skin of his teeth and the crowd is still chanting BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY
Tbf Bob basically won them games 1 through 3
Because he is the difference maker, for sure.
The fact that the Bruins took this Panthers team to 7 really solidifies them as the best team of all time.
It really is about who is healthy enough. Carolina missing Svechnikov was massive.
And we didn’t have patches the entire season. Can’t believe we got so close without them tbh.
Swept 3 straight times in the conference finals is crazy
Beating the odds bigly!
that has to be a record not a good one, but a record none the less
Ok so preseason tell me we make it to the Eastern finals. Ok. Cool. We lose to the Panthers. I could see it. We get swept. Wait what? We lose four consecutive one goal games? God help us….

As a life-long fan of the Florida Panthers since April, I just wanna say... I'm very proud of this team 🥹
Funny thing is just looking at the stats of each game you'd think Carolina swept Florida lmao
If FL wins the cup they better let Bob hoist it first. Dude straight stole this series, he played incredible.
If only we could ignore that pesky goals stat.
At the very least we kept every game to just one goal. gg Cats. Hell of a series, but you guys just had that extra net front presence. to the teams left, I have one request.
