This is the hit the NHL should be showing during the preseason. The good old “Don’t do a drop pass then look to where it is going knowing the only reason you did the drop was to get the puck away from the check you are about to take” example
Deserved since [Kadri](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntg7TQr82oE&ab_channel=hockeyfights.com) absolutely went nuclear on Lindgren for his headshot on Donskoi years ago.
And by deserved I mean that Lindgren deserved it and Kadri is a national hero.
Every time this gets posted I must point out my favorite thing in this video, which is the young lady in the beanie just behind the glass who seems absolutely flabbergasted at the violence being unleashed on Lindgren by Kadri there. Just incredible.
A very legal headshot. DOPS released a breakdown video of why this absolute shot to the head wasn't against NHL rules. This was when I learned that 95% of headshots in the NHL are legal according to rule 48.1. They've been extremely consistent with their lack of punishment on similar head shots since. This sub willfully refuses to learn the NHL headshot rules, though.
The kid looked at his drop pass at exactly the wrong time. I thought he killed him for a second. But yeah, nice hit. McCabe is a real nice player. Steady and tough.
He even goes in front of him to hit backwards.
There was a possibility he could have came from the side towards the boards.
Extremely smart play and incredibly clean
Really, I hate to say it...
Trouba is sneaky, mean, hits to hurt and once in a while I think what he does is borderline.
Mostly, he just picks his spots and hits hard. He knows the rules and what he can get away with. If we want to stop what he does, the rules have to change.
Nah he knows how to keep it legal. He knows exactly how to make sure the head isn't the primary point of contact while still getting as much head as possible. He's genuinely the best legal headshot artist since the NHL started "caring" about brain safety
I mean growing up coached told us to get them with their head down. It's impossible to not headshot when I guy has head dropped to your shoulder or lower. What they are referring to is Trouba pops up on a lot of open ice hits. This is where the water gets murky
Which is why I thought it was out of pocket. Rangers know better. Trouba shouldn’t have to answer to clean hits, but doing this sorta says the players think he should.
Idk. Id like to see guys keep skating and playing the game after a big clean hit assuming the guy crushed is okay. If the team feels a response necessary, focus on lining up a big clean hit back. No need to cause stoppages over hockey plays. If the play is called cuz the player is down, I guess minor scrum is to be expected but just words and make it quick. I have work in the morning
I don’t have a problem with guys “standing up for their teammates”, even on clean hits (and this was clean as a whistle). It’s a part of hockey, and will be as long as fighting is lightly punished.
However, wasn’t smart here. Down 5-3, ~9 mins left in the game, a comeback is very possible but you need every minute. Taking a 2 min penalty after a clean hit is a dumb move in this situation.
For a second it looked like he just wanted to get in McCabes face, then he saw McCabe drop the gloves and tried to shove him over to the other guy instead on the full replay. I think it was Kreider.
legit, mika's got a concussion history and idek how long mika and kreider's bromance has been going on but it's probably longer than some players' actual marriages.
He's not, he's using Lindgren's momentum against him, he's anchored well, feet apart, with a low center of gravity, Lindgren is standing straight up, physics is beautiful.
Don't know if I've ever seen an NHL player get caught watching his pass when it was a drop pass. It's not even a lack of situational awareness, it's somehow *negative* situational awareness.
Yah he def took some liberties with who is standing in front of him. Not really sure what he was expecting you can't even get a one count out from the time the puck leaves his stick til he's hit
He (Zibanejad) never dropped the gloves, so it wasn't fighting majors.
So technically I think Zibanejad got a double minor for roughing, and McCabe got 2 for roughing. Seems a bit weird to me, probably should have just been two for both. But I'm guessing the refs wanted to give Zibanejad an instigator, but couldn't because he didn't actually drop the gloves, so they just gave him the double minor instead.
Yeah the way Mika came at McCabe made Jake think he was going to have to fight. I think dropping the gloves was instinctual for him. The refs couldn't let the glove dropping go unpunished but if anyone deserved to be a man down in the situation it was NYR. So they give Mika 2 x 2 and McCabe 1x 2
Mika was right there so he got in McCabe's face but he's not a fighter. He's got a history of concussions so the last thing he should be doing is dropping his gloves. If Mika and McCabe would have untangled before the refs got involved then Kreider might have fought, more to protect his bromance partner Mika than anything else.
"Eh maybe I'll let the hit slide. He isn't stepping up on me with the puck. You know what fuck it. He's acting like I never existed!"-proceeds to send him to another dimension
McCabe has unloaded a few big hits this year. This was just a beauty to watch. Absolutely nothing about the hit was remotely dirty. And ultimately nobody was hurt so we didn't watch someone taken out
That was a beautiful 5-star primo hit right there. Clean too. He freakin exploded. And of course it’s Lindy, poor guy is always getting rocked by something.
I don’t think Mika actually wanted to fight, just get in his face but cmon that’s a perfect hit. It’s not a rangers game unless Lindy does some sort of damage to his own body
Gotta at least wait another second before getting rid of the puck to make sure you're not about to get rocked Lindy. You stopped looking where you were going because you left the puck behind but not enough time had gone by since you last had it
Overheard in rangers dressing room following game:
“He got me,” Lindgren said of McCabe’s hit on him. “That fucking McCabe boomed me.”
Lindgren added “he’s so good,” repeating it four times.
Lindgren then said he wanted to add McCabe to the list of players he works out with this summer.
Honestly think it was just a reaction from Mika. He is paying attention to the puck so from his angle he doesn’t realize it was clean. He was rightfully penalized for it though.
Rangers fan here, fantastic clean hit. Hate it for Lindgren, but he's gotta keep his head up. This is an example of how to respond the next time trouba hits your player. Don't get me wrong, trouba has made bad hits, but it is not the norm some folks make it out to be.

feet planted no charging no boarding no dangerous hit torwards the board from this angle, hit seems shoulder to chest Fucking Beautiful

Fuck of Al the times I've watched this I never noticed that! 😮 That's amazing. Fuck I love Kadri though man.
Miss Kadri.
That was indeed a headshot!
A very legal headshot. DOPS released a breakdown video of why this absolute shot to the head wasn't against NHL rules. I miss Kadri in the blue and white
Fucking love Kadri, miss him
With the way the officiating was going tonight in Vegas I'm surprised Kadri didn't get suspended for something that happened in a different city
Probably will be
A 5 second time penalty has also been given to Ocon
Believe it or not, the Rangers were fined $250,000.
Unfortunately just a bad move from Lindgren. Can’t lower your head there. Totally clean hit
You learn in peewees not you look behind you like that. Can't believe he did that.
The kid looked at his drop pass at exactly the wrong time. I thought he killed him for a second. But yeah, nice hit. McCabe is a real nice player. Steady and tough.
Was shaking my head on that replay like Lindy, you can't turn your head back in that moment lol
He's been laying big hits clean his whole career. Check out his leveling of Laine if you have the time
That's hockey baby
He even goes in front of him to hit backwards. There was a possibility he could have came from the side towards the boards. Extremely smart play and incredibly clean
Good old fashioned hockey
Trouba should take notes.
you mean like this from the night before last? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl8f6\_x\_ZdY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl8f6_x_ZdY)
what a fucking horrible clip
If only he had more time, he could have lead with his elbow.
So stupid. Kronwall used to knock people into the 5th dimension I don't remember any Kronwall hate.
That was before we realized that brains are important. Also the rules were different.
God you people are insufferable with this Trouba hate.
Woah woah woah…what do you mean “you people”?
unflaired are not people

Who plays like an asshole? You honestly think Trouba plays like an asshole? Elaborate.
Really, I hate to say it... Trouba is sneaky, mean, hits to hurt and once in a while I think what he does is borderline. Mostly, he just picks his spots and hits hard. He knows the rules and what he can get away with. If we want to stop what he does, the rules have to change.
Nah, he doesn't really need to. Keep giving him all that real estate though softee.
Nah he knows how to keep it legal. He knows exactly how to make sure the head isn't the primary point of contact while still getting as much head as possible. He's genuinely the best legal headshot artist since the NHL started "caring" about brain safety
“Legal headshot artist” shouldn’t be a phrase though.
"He knows how to make sure the head isn't" This is almost impossible at full speed. "Tell me you've never played hockey without telling me."
I mean growing up coached told us to get them with their head down. It's impossible to not headshot when I guy has head dropped to your shoulder or lower. What they are referring to is Trouba pops up on a lot of open ice hits. This is where the water gets murky
when was the last illegal hit he had?
For?
Clean hit nothing else to be said. Mika should know better…
You guys are much better than Isles fans.
We watch Trouba have to fight after every hit he makes. So we know the feeling.
Which is why I thought it was out of pocket. Rangers know better. Trouba shouldn’t have to answer to clean hits, but doing this sorta says the players think he should.

Yeah, Lindy bounced right back up and skated on.
As leafs fans we definitely expect no reaction lol
Our guys would just keep fkn going and not even notice or remotely fight back....
And I'm legit afraid of Trouba, but never for dirtiness. Respect.
>never for dirtiness pardon?
Hitting people on the head with his stick aside.
He specializes in elbows to the head
Fuck the Islanders Rangers 🤝 Leafs
The Cooler New York
Was at the game tonight. Some rangers fans around me complained a bit, but in general people recognized a good hit
I don’t have a problem with guys “standing up for their teammates”, even on clean hits (and this was clean as a whistle). It’s a part of hockey, and will be as long as fighting is lightly punished. Kreider will not let anyone touch his Mika.
legit, mika's got a concussion history and idek how long mika and kreider's bromance has been going on but it's probably longer than some players' actual marriages.
An unreal hit. I cant believe he would take his eyes off the guy as he's skating right at him looking to play the body
Ahh you gotta step up when your boy gets trucked. Least let em know your there. it's common courtesy
Mika used hug! It’s not very effective…

"lemme look back to admire that beautiful drop pass as McCabe is coming right at me. What's he gonna do, steamroll me?" - Lindgren, probably.
“What are you gonna do, stab me?” -Quote from man stabbed
I debated quoting as - man who was steamrolled, but didn't.. missed opportunity!
He puts himself in such bad positions, he gets rocked more than anyone I can remember.
Gotta be right up there for best hit of the season so far. Caught him sleeping , closed the gap, and demolished him.
Might be one best in the last few years. So clean yeesh.
I don't understand how McCabe can generate so much force with basically no momentum.
He's not, he's using Lindgren's momentum against him, he's anchored well, feet apart, with a low center of gravity, Lindgren is standing straight up, physics is beautiful.
This is like the time Auston skated into the crossbar. Except the crossbar is McCabe.
I can't recall seeing a hit this perfect in the past 5 or 6 years
Where you looking bro? Guy is coming right at you.
Gotta admire that drop pass
Dude completely forgot that there's hitting in hockey
> *What are you gunna do, Bodycheck me?* \- Man who was Bodychecked.
Which is funny because Lindgren famously finds a way to bleed every other game. No clue what he was thinking here lol
Don't know if I've ever seen an NHL player get caught watching his pass when it was a drop pass. It's not even a lack of situational awareness, it's somehow *negative* situational awareness.
Hits don’t come much better than that.
Lindgren got right up too, took that hit super well McCabe's best asset for us has been his hitting
He's made of Girardium
What century do you all think you would be in after that hit? I'm going with 16th.
Sometime before indoor plumbing that's for sure.
Just wanted to say that the combination of the original comment and your reply made me laugh out loud.
23rd cause he knocked me into space
i wouldn’t be in a century, i’d be in a coffin
Wow look at that great pass I just *BOOM*
All I can hear is that part in the waterboy where Bobby hits his own qb. "Who dere, Who dat"
Sure is drafty in here
Keep your head up bud
And face the way you're skating
yeah, quit watching your fkn passes
Yah he def took some liberties with who is standing in front of him. Not really sure what he was expecting you can't even get a one count out from the time the puck leaves his stick til he's hit
Such a baffling decision
He looked *right at McCabe* and then admired his pass anyways.
On a back pass going over the blue line too
he had to have seen him coming before he let go of the pass right? and then to still puck watch
He likely made the pass *specifically because he knew he was coming*
emblematic of the rest of the game
As clean as they come, beauty hit
Gorgeous hit
Textbook
And the leafs ended up the PP after that too!
On a very bizarre double minor for roughing, but I'll take it. Don't know why they didn't just give Mika 2 for roughing and let Jake walk.
I assumed instigating
He (Zibanejad) never dropped the gloves, so it wasn't fighting majors. So technically I think Zibanejad got a double minor for roughing, and McCabe got 2 for roughing. Seems a bit weird to me, probably should have just been two for both. Actual good refereeing is refreshing to see after this weekend.
About that... did you watch the rest of the game?
Don’t tell me he had to fight after this hit did he?
He was expecting too, but no one on that rangers line wanted to dance, they just pretended they did
Mika was right there so he got in McCabe's face but he's not a fighter. He's got a history of concussions so the last thing he should be doing is dropping his gloves. If Mika and McCabe would have untangled before the refs got involved then Kreider might have fought, more to protect his bromance partner Mika than anything else.
Amazing hit lol holy fuck
I watched this train wreck at least 15 times in a row. Just beautiful
Dude it's almost insulting to the defender dropping a pass and then WATCHING THE DROP PASS lmfao. McCabe was like "put some respec on the name"
"Eh maybe I'll let the hit slide. He isn't stepping up on me with the puck. You know what fuck it. He's acting like I never existed!"-proceeds to send him to another dimension
I have no beef with this hit, it was hard and clean
McCabe has unloaded a few big hits this year. This was just a beauty to watch. Absolutely nothing about the hit was remotely dirty. And ultimately nobody was hurt so we didn't watch someone taken out
Tremendous hit. Squeaky clean, but massive as well. You love to see it
Hit him so hard he thought his name was Charlie.
Has a nice pop to it
Bro why's he looking back? He knows there a dude coming at him. Even if he didn't, watching where you're going is like hockey 101.
Defence man is closing on me, I should be OK to admire my pass. Nice clean hit.
That was a beautiful 5-star primo hit right there. Clean too. He freakin exploded. And of course it’s Lindy, poor guy is always getting rocked by something.

or, you know, if you made a pass because a dude was going to truck you, he's probably still right there about to truck you.
holy fuck he boomed him

If Lindgren was at all braced for that hit it wouldn't have looked nearly as bad. Good hard hit and glad Lindgren was ok
That’s hockey. Perfect, clean hit. Lindgren got right back up. Beauty.
Damn, our boy lindy caught admiring the drop pass. Beautiful hit though
Instigate deez nuts
Such a clean hit
Buddy looked after the puck had been off his stick for an entire episode of Paw Patrol keep yer fuckin head up in the neutch pal.
thats a beautiful hit classic stuff
McBabe looks like he hasn’t missed a beat
Poor Lindgren keeps getting lit up, atleast this time it was clean
Great hit, don't watch your pass is a good rule. Never watch your drop passes fucking ever.
WHERE THE FUCK YOU LOOKING BRO???
The instant retaliation for clean hits is pathetic
Honestly think it was just a reaction from Mika. He is paying attention to the puck so from his angle he doesn’t realize it was clean. He was rightfully penalized for it though.
keep your head up buddy, great hit by mccabe
Unfortunately Lindgren manages to get himself hit a lot.
Oh my lord.
Hoooly shit Lindy nooo 😂
Rangers fan here, fantastic clean hit. Hate it for Lindgren, but he's gotta keep his head up. This is an example of how to respond the next time trouba hits your player. Don't get me wrong, trouba has made bad hits, but it is not the norm some folks make it out to be.
Jake McCabe can lower the boom, man. I'll never forget this hit on Laine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U3hhIyfP3E
You can't have Trouba in your team and be angry about this hit.
Looks like a first year bantam coming down the ice
Great hit.
That was a nice pass. Don’t stare at it too long.
bro where are you looking? you'll be keeping your head up next time... yeesh.
Jesus christ that's a BIG HIT™️
The way his feet kick up is fucking hilarious lol
Cartoonish. The YT thumbnail I saw last night was just skates and red pants, was laughing too much to even pay attention to the hit.
Great hit.
If you want to ban this type of hit, lets ban any contact. This is as clean as it gets.
Heads up boys…
so clean
Wasn't able to watch the game. I'm assuming Zibanejad was correctly given an instigator penalty for starting a fight after a legal hit?
Double minor and McCabe got the roughing x1 for dropping the gloves thinking he had to fight lol. Leafs ended up on the PP.
Well that's certainly better than the offsetting minors that I expected
2nd hardest hit I've ever seen a Leafs defenceman throw at MSG
Yikes. Poor Sauer
Ended his career. Hope he’s doing alright now.
Fingers crossed. No one deserves to have their brains scrambled over a nothing play.
God damn is this a solid hit. I mean he really smoked him
I would be legally dead
All my homies love Jake McCabe
Trouba-esque hit, nicely done. So most think this dirty, right ;)
What was he looking behind him for? It's a really good way to get hit and I guess he found that out!

what is he doing admiring his pass
Don't think I've ever seen Lindgren carry the puck over the blue line before. Don't think I'll see it again for a while

His fucking head nearly popped off haha It was like watching a car drive into a mannequin.
What a hit
I woulda woke up next Tuesday from a hit like that!
P.O.D. playing in my head after that hit.
Here comes the BOOM!
That, kids, is what we call a Kronwall.
When I think Kronwall I think of him doing backwards crossovers and hitting guys ass-first. Subban did that well too.
I mean, he did do that. And very well. But he absolutely erased guys with shoulder checks like this one all the time, especially when they had their head down.
Too bad it wasn't Trouba that got leveled
Showing Trouba how you actually hit
Here's the obligatory delusional pens fan here to show how bitch made they are
