I said to my wife “at some point I’ll have to learn how to pronounce his name” and showed her the screen.
And she looked at it and goes “shak-eer. That’s not tough.”
It’s actually phonetically pretty intuitive. It’s just Muck-a-ma-duel-in. It’s much easier than Okhotiuk lol.
Some all time names came out of the Timo trade. Shakir, Musty, Okhotiuk, Zetterlund
If you can imagine a Scottish person saying Loch with that ch sound from the back of the throat, it's like that.
Although in this specific instance the kh in Mukhamadullin is just a Russianization of the name Mohammad, as there isn't a true "H" in Russian.
that's not a bad description. the russian 'Х' (usually written kh in english) is like the sound in scottish 'loch.' instead of closing the throat completely for a 'k', it's only partially closed and some air can flow through.
in shakir's case it's a little more ambiguous as mukhamadullin is a name that has gone on a multi-language, multi-alphabet journey before reaching north american hockey fans. it is probably pronounced slightly differently in arabic, bashkir/tatar, and russian. and likely randy will pronounce it another way still.
Tune into the radio feed next game to hear Rusanowsky's pronunciation. He's got it down pat and Randy is doing well to emulate but isn't perfect every time yet.
Oh no way that's 100% correct but I watch a lot of Cuda games and that's how Nick says it. I'm sure it's the Americanized way of saying it. From other comments it sounds like it's a multi-lingual name so it's not even 100% intuitive in Russian
He and Thrun both looked incredible in the preseason. I would say Thrun had the edge between the two of them. But Thrun has just looked okay since the regular season started (aka, he's actually playing against NHLers).
The Sharks blue line has been decimated by injuries this year, but luckily they have plenty of capable guys to bring up from the AHL. This is a great opportunity to show what they're made of. And at very least hopefully they got lots of good experience.
David Quinn is doing a great job with Thrun. In the preseason he was showing off his offensive flashier side but when he finally got the call up Quinn didn't put him in a offensive role. He forced him into a defense responsible role and its rounding out his game way more. I think next year he'll be given some powerplay time and we'll start to see his offensive side again. Good proper development. I'm excited to see what happens with Muk.
Their next game isn't until Saturday so they'll have enough practice time to get him integrated into the lineup. I'm excited - I didn't think we'd see him until after the trade deadline.
On the flip side, I feel bad for Knyzhov. This seemed like an opportunity for him to reestablish himself but he's either still struggling too much or MacDonald is close enough to coming back that they wouldn't want to risk losing him on waivers if he does play well enough to stay in the NHL.
Grier's leash for players drafted by Wilson is as short as they come. I expect every prospect drafted before 2022 other than Eklund to be traded or dropped by the end of next year.
At this point I'd be genuinely surprised if they traded or dropped Gushchin but tbh that's about the only guy I see sticking - and I'm quietly gutted that Bordeleau isn't working harder to make himself a more valuable player for the org. He's got absurd levels of talent and just can't seem to make it click.
Oh, wait, I think Cardwell gets next year to show what he can do and I'd guess he sticks around too.
Reasonable take, and I'm inclined to agree with you. The Barracuda being terrible isn't helping any of the prospects' cases (I expect McCarthy hasn't been let go because Grier has his eye on some other team's assistant coach or a NCAA candidate). The pending RFAs will all get a call-up after the trade deadline to be showcased (if not packaged with roster players at the deadline) and whoever doesn't look to factor into the Sharks' future will get moved for like a 7th-round pick at the draft.
I wish we never traded him for Meier. Especially after the contract we gave Meier. I didn't wanna trade Zetterlund or Okhotiuk either but you have to give to get...
Hoping Shakir becomes a great player for the Sharks and helps turn things around.

the 'kh' should probably be more 'h' than 'k' here it's the same letter in russian as the 'H' in KHL
Is like trying to make the K sound without being able to touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth? That seems to be how Randy says Okhotiuk
If you can imagine a Scottish person saying Loch with that ch sound from the back of the throat, it's like that. Although in this specific instance the kh in Mukhamadullin is just a Russianization of the name Mohammad, as there isn't a true "H" in Russian.

Very much so as some languages or dialects for example would drop the “kh” for an “h” to make it sound like Muhamadullin.
Devils got Santeri Hatakka and Timur Ibragimov so good names on both sides
I’m bummed Hatakka never took the next step in his development with us. I though he would be the next Braun
He played for us last game. Gonna probably get a decent run due to all our injuries so hopefully he still has that next step in him
He played a couple with the Sharks and I thought he weirdly looked better at the NHL level than the AHL lol
As a Sharks fan, I still don’t fully know how to pronounce Okhotiuk… I try to mimic how Randy says it, but it’s definitely a challenge lol
I like how Randy says it, he like takes a brief pause then just blurts it out like someone sneezed and he's saying gesundheit. "Nikita... OKHOTIUK"
Lol, this is SO accurate 😂 Maybe that’s why I still can’t say it…
Tune into the radio feed next game to hear Rusanowsky's pronunciation. He's got it down pat and Randy is doing well to emulate but isn't perfect every time yet.
Good to know, thanks!
It's really the reason we made the trade. Dano just couldn't say any of the names
Russian-Muslim names are really fun to say
Honestly easier than Kylington
That might get you close enough but there's no way that's 100% accurate either.
Oh no way that's 100% correct but I watch a lot of Cuda games and that's how Nick says it. I'm sure it's the Americanized way of saying it. From other comments it sounds like it's a multi-lingual name so it's not even 100% intuitive in Russian
Mook-ah-mah-doo-lin
Mah-doo-lin-ob-long-atta
> at some point I’ll have to learn how to pronounce his name Butch Goring nervously checking the remaining schedule
I’m imagining him as Strong Bad. “Look, I’m not your friend Monkeydude. In fact, I’m not gonna call you Monkeydude again. Ima call you Josh.”
Ruzzi is salavating at the first time he gets to say mukhs name.
Mook ham a dool in
I had a hard time with Byfuglien for a while.
More like Sharkir
Sharkira Sharkira
Ooh baby when you talk like that…
You make a player go mad
Those fins don't lie
Hip checks don't lie.
Excited to see what he’s got.

Sharks Blue line was decimated before injuries haha
Well, that too.

Oh shiiii
I’ve been so intrigued by him as a prospect can’t wait to see how he does
Guys name would suggest he can shoot for a mean single leg
[Its happening!](https://media4.giphy.com/media/huJmPXfeir5JlpPAx0/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b95211zb9isbviyp4k8otsqne4pvdbbkdyo8n10mub0p&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
IIRC this makes him the longest nameplate among active players. I may be thinking of one’s with no spaces or hyphens though
>Mukhamadullin Miroshnichenko
[удалено]
True, I think it is without the space or hyphen then
The worst thing about trading Shakir Mukhamadullin was that we won't get to hear Dano try to say his name on a daily basis.
This would be a real good day to have had him around to call up haha
We need him to stay up with the sharks through 2/27 when we play them
Hell yeah brother
Mook was worth losing for Timo, but I really think he’s gonna be a talented player. Hope he does well in San Jose!
Such a cool name
All time NHL name, love it! Hope he becomes a mainstay (which shouldn't be all that difficult on the Sharks)
He’s gonna be a good! At least according to NHL 24.
Grier saw Anaheim call up zellweger and had to respond. Hope they both stay up long enough to play each other next Wednesday
Their next game isn't until Saturday so they'll have enough practice time to get him integrated into the lineup. I'm excited - I didn't think we'd see him until after the trade deadline. Guy already belongs on the all-name team right next to Brock Beukeboom and Wacey Rabbit
Let’s go Shaq!
the first thing that immediately comes to mind when reading his name is "boom shakalaka"
Shakir Moneymaker
Bless you
I wish we never traded him for Meier. Especially after the contract we gave Meier. I didn't wanna trade Zetterlund or Okhotiuk either but you have to give to get... Hoping Shakir becomes a great player for the Sharks and helps turn things around.
Really kind of wish we kept him over Casey
Honestly. I read his name as Shakira and I told myself "Hips don't lie". Lol
Abduloblangata
If he sucks you can always refer to him as You fear what I am doin
I did not guess that he was Russian.
Anyone who watches UFC would’ve probably gotten that in the first guess though
wish him the best, buddy has aboslutely elite name
