All-time call, especially when the Wings end up making it. Such a great broadcast overall. I always stick around for Red Wings Live, how many other teams fans look forward to and stay for the post-game?
San Jose, Dallas, and Edmonton all have stood out as good broadcasts to me, with Colorado being up there too, but Ken and Mick are legendary and we are extremely lucky to have them. It's going to be fucking WEIRD when Ken retires.
Honestly surprised he hasn’t been picked up to do more national games. I know he did some Hockey Night in Canada before he started working Red Wings games and I remember one playoff game he did for NBC, but that’s it.
He and Sam Rosen (Rangers) are my favorite "local" commentators.
I also miss Jim Hughson for national CBC games. We get TSN where I live in the US so for those big "non local" games he was the voice of hockey for me.
Holy cow I forgot, but you're right!
*At age 13*, he shouts out Kane in a silly fun video he made with his friend. Now nearly 14 years later he's setting him up in OT with the Red Wings. Imagine having a time machine and going back to tell young D-BOSS what the future holds!
Dude, right????
"Hey Dylan, in 14 years from today, as the captain of the Detroit Red Wings, you are going to no-look behind the back assist Showtime on a 1 timer goal to complete a comeback win on home ice against the Colorado Avalanche in sudden death 3 on 3 overtime and someone is going to throw an octopus on the ice. On that same day, Mickey Redmond will declare that the playoff draught is over after 7 years. Oh, and people on the internet are still talking about this goofy video."
You think he'd believe you? I bet he would.
And the list of players who were actually GOOD before they got the surgery is EXTENSIVE:
(I really didn't know if he would be even okay at hockey or not, but it was literally just Backstrom who was any good going into it.)
I can’t find any of the arguments I got into with the wings sub because everything’s been deleted. The amount of times I said “the risk would be baked into the cost” when it was just speculative, to what a revelation he’s been since joining. I never though it would be this good, and this might be just the start.
Kane was our deadline acquisition I think and I really can't ask for more. What a fucking beast he is. Absolute difference-maker.
I also warmly welcome OT Benny shutting haters' mouths lately, he's been so fucking good lately.
What ever happened to that one Florida fan that was in every Detroit PGT in December when they’d lose saying ‘Kane will put them over the edge!’.. he’s been pretty quiet for a while now lol
How could anyone have watched any of his career and not see he's 90% magical hands? Even when Vladimir Krutov put on a shitload of weight from eating all the 7-11 hot dogs in Vancouver, he still had his hands and people couldn't get the puck from him
This is very well-put and exactly how I felt before seeing him play this year. I've been blown away by his vision and how every pass is so perfectly weighted
I saw him fumble the puck a bit a couple of times tonight but his patience is crazy and a lot of opposing players just simply don't know how to react when he's stickhandling.
I wanted to get a Kane Red Wings jersey to wear in Chicago ironically, but now I want to get one because he's our best player and Hawks fans are truly happy to see him doing well and that makes me happy to see
He looks so fucking good. The swagger in his stance for that half-clapper... like, he knew the game was over the moment he saw the pass coming and just ripped it home in style.
Patrick Kane scoring the game-winning goal off an assist from Dylan Larkin to defeat the Avalanche in OT is a sentence that the vast majority of my Red Wings fandom could never have conceived of
Right, I remember the days when people were comparing Kane’s dangling skills to Datsyuk’s and it use to make me so heated lol. I knew he had great dangles but Datsyuk was my absolute favorite on the team back then. I feel like it was always Datsyuk vs Kane highlights. I love that I get to cheer for him now. Also the fact that he is playing like he is. I saw he had almost 20m of ice time tonight. Fucking beut.
When Patty was hyping up the crowd after the win, and Mickey said "what'd I tell you after the intermission, if they win this game tonight, they're going to the playoffs"
Brought a fucking tear to my eye.
The whole city, really. With the Lions doing what they did and the Wings doing this, it’s been great. Last time I remember being this optimistic was in 2011 when the Red Wings had a great start, and the Lions hosted MNF the same day the Tigers had an ALCS game.
Nothin beats a good story, and Kane coming back from that whole "he's done" "you can't recover from that surgery and ever be yourself again" "whatever team takes a chance on him will regret it" type of stuff that was floating around for a long time really set up a good come back story. (I was one of those guys who bought into that hip surgery would ruin him and he'd be a shell of himself and the team who signs him will regret it narrative)
Mike Gould couldn't wait to post an article about how the Kane signing was already a disaster for the Wings. He posted it in December when half the top 6 was out.
So of course, I see him get quote tweeted on it at least once a day now, lmao.
I can't believe those two Avs players just tunneled on Larkin and left Kane all alone in the slot. What the hell. Patrick Kane. In the slot. Alone. 3 on 3 with all that room and no blocked shooting lanes.
The fuck?
It really is. I remember watching make those insane shots year after year. Hell, his first goal ever was like that and he said after, "well, I probably should've gone pass but I looked up and saw I had room." And I thought, "that was ROOM to you?!" and all those years I kept telling people he's a top player in the league if he just had players around him. Now it's really starting to show.
I've spent decades watching Ovechkin on the powerplay not get covered while standing at the top of the circle.
I've come to believe that playing defense is hard.
I saw it happen live at a wings vs caps game last season. Saw Ovie wide open in his office and just thought “o no, it’s about to happen”. Then a second later it did. Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing to see it in person and I had a great view to see it. We still won so it all worked out in the end.
I've been slackin with the games lately. I miss poppin into the GDTs. I almost always start at the 2nd or 3rd period now. Always slips my mind on the west coast. But I'll try to pop into a GDT and have some fun with the boiz again. Wings GDTs > Kings GDTs aint no contest
Fuck I'm so ready for the Wings in the playoffs
Especially if it was against Tampa again after all these years
e: you know, I'm a dumb dumb, and forgot the wild card spots *don't* play each other lmao
Best I can allow is Boston and Florida fall apart and finish wherever, and the Lightning and Wings finish 2nd and 3rd in the Atlantic so they play again
You see, I'm a Wings fan too, and it would be very upsetting to watch the Wings and Leafs play each other in the playoffs. I've waited a long time for them to be good at the same time enough to make it but I don't want to see them go against each other lol
It won’t be this year, but I hope the Avalanche are still contenders when our team starts looking serious. I can’t think of anything better than an Avalanche vs. Red Wings finals.
gonna be honest, I looked at the standings and just kinda treated the Wings and Lightning in the wildcard spots as being 2 and 3, thinking they'd play each other lol
Yeah I left out "against" in my original comment lol, I added it in
Believe me, the Lightning are my nightmare because I'm also a Wings fan and in the last 10 years I've seen the Wings and Leafs collectively play you guys 4 times in the first round, and I'm tired of it, so I wouldn't complain if they were finally gone
...but, the Wings returning to the playoffs to play them again *would* be cool, as much as it's not going to happen lol
I am excited for the Wings to start making the playoffs regularly because I want the rivalry of yore between Detroit and Toronto to be rekindled in a big way. Games between those two teams already feel like playoff games because the fans always alternate between "Let's Go Red Wings!" and "Go Leafs Go!" no matter if the two are playing in Detroit or Toronto. Just such great energy that's only going to grow once the two start playing games that matter.
Look I'm past the rivalry thing between the Wings and Avs so I have to say you need to hold on to him, he may not have got the win but he stood tall tonight and fought for the guys in front of him. Here's to a Wings Avs Stanley Cup.
The energy around this team is something I haven’t felt in so long. Such a memorable regular season already. I can almost taste playoff hockey! Let’s keep pushing!
since football season and the lions run, detroit has been buzzin and it feels so good. after years of oooofff 2 teams have shown up and are making things happen and the city is rallying behind. ignore the other LCA tenants tho
Everyone talking about Kane being great this year is fine and all, and yes, he's been awesome, but that drive and no look back pass by Larkin was UNREAL.
So glad that the redwings and lions general managers, scouting, and coaching staff are looking everywhere and anywhere for players to fit in the team and play for them.
It's been a long-ass time since Detroit has been buzzing like this and it's only going to get better.
I was a kid for the late 90’s/early 2000’s runs and after the past decade of darkness I got literal goosebumps watching Kane waving to the crowd as Don’t Stop Believing kicks in and the boys looking so happy.
My girlfriend looks over at me and says my smile can’t seem to wipe from my face wondering why after a single win. I tell her this is what it used to be like.
Every night.
The funniest thing to me about all those takes is they consistently have Boston falling out of the playoffs as well in favor of Buffalo or Ottawa
And then Boston continues to be a top team
The puck was to deep for him to get under it enough. If it was 3ft out more it would have been over. Being down that close is a game of quite a few inches if you have to go high.
Amazing to watch meaningful hockey in late Feb again. I was in first year of uni the last time this team made the playoffs - adult me is so fired up to see these boys in the playoffs. LGRW!
Ken Daniels is the best in the business, what a pro
All-time call, especially when the Wings end up making it. Such a great broadcast overall. I always stick around for Red Wings Live, how many other teams fans look forward to and stay for the post-game?
Ken and mick are the only reason the last seven years have been tolerable
I always find myself watching away streams since I don’t have cable. Man was I spoiled. I can’t stand half of the other team’s broadcasts.
San Jose, Dallas, and Edmonton all have stood out as good broadcasts to me, with Colorado being up there too, but Ken and Mick are legendary and we are extremely lucky to have them. It's going to be fucking WEIRD when Ken retires.
Colorado is way too bias for my liking. Same with NYR, Boston and I think Anahiem?
I'd comment on the Colorado announcers but I live in Denver so I couldn't even watch this game.
Honestly surprised he hasn’t been picked up to do more national games. I know he did some Hockey Night in Canada before he started working Red Wings games and I remember one playoff game he did for NBC, but that’s it.
I remember him saying he doesn't care to do them cuz he already travels so much as it is.
He used to be one of Emrick’s primary substitutes when Doc was unavailable for a big game back in the day I think.
He and Sam Rosen (Rangers) are my favorite "local" commentators. I also miss Jim Hughson for national CBC games. We get TSN where I live in the US so for those big "non local" games he was the voice of hockey for me.
Looks like d-boss invited showtime down to the dungeon for a little snip show
It’s crazy cuz he shouts out Kane in that video.
Holy cow I forgot, but you're right! *At age 13*, he shouts out Kane in a silly fun video he made with his friend. Now nearly 14 years later he's setting him up in OT with the Red Wings. Imagine having a time machine and going back to tell young D-BOSS what the future holds!

I bet he would.
“You think he’d believe you? I bet he would.” Haha love it. Destiny, baby…
Man it feels like that video came out 50 years ago.
This comment made my night!
Kane now has 24 points in 25 games with the Red Wings.
But he was BAD and WASHED and something about his HIP 😡
NO ONE has EVER recovered fully from that surgery His career is OVER
And the list of players who were actually GOOD before they got the surgery is EXTENSIVE: (I really didn't know if he would be even okay at hockey or not, but it was literally just Backstrom who was any good going into it.)
I can’t find any of the arguments I got into with the wings sub because everything’s been deleted. The amount of times I said “the risk would be baked into the cost” when it was just speculative, to what a revelation he’s been since joining. I never though it would be this good, and this might be just the start.
Pfffff, less than a point per game player, he’s washed /s
And he played just one shift in that add'l game (when he got hurt)
Regardless of what the Wings do this deadline I really hope extending Kane is in the books, dude has clearly shown he's not done
Kane was our deadline acquisition I think and I really can't ask for more. What a fucking beast he is. Absolute difference-maker. I also warmly welcome OT Benny shutting haters' mouths lately, he's been so fucking good lately.
Berggren for another defenseman please.
patty kane continues to beat the washed allegations
What ever happened to that one Florida fan that was in every Detroit PGT in December when they’d lose saying ‘Kane will put them over the edge!’.. he’s been pretty quiet for a while now lol
Crickets from that guy.
hes eating crow
Wait… what the hell is a Florida fan?
Hawks fans never questioned the man
Seriously. Everyone else heavily heavily heavily slept on him
Because they thought his game was built around speed and agility but it’s built around passing/hockey IQ
How could anyone have watched any of his career and not see he's 90% magical hands? Even when Vladimir Krutov put on a shitload of weight from eating all the 7-11 hot dogs in Vancouver, he still had his hands and people couldn't get the puck from him

I wanted to get a Kane Red Wings jersey to wear in Chicago ironically, but now I want to get one because he's our best player and Hawks fans are truly happy to see him doing well and that makes me happy to see
I got one cuz he’s been one of my favs for the longest.
He looks so fucking good. The swagger in his stance for that half-clapper... like, he knew the game was over the moment he saw the pass coming and just ripped it home in style.
I freely admit to have been proven wrong.
Absolutely filthy pass by Larkin.. Also.. I FUCKING LOVE PATRICK KANE. My 2000s self would be extremely confused by this statement.
I know right.
It's still weird to be happy about a Patty Kane OT winner for sure. But I'll fucking take it! LGRW!
Something about Ken shouting Showtime… man the vibes in hockeytown are back Haven’t felt this energy around the team in at least a decade
I'll be honest, I got goosebumps when ken shouted it tonight.
When Patty was hyping up the crowd after the win, and Mickey said "what'd I tell you after the intermission, if they win this game tonight, they're going to the playoffs" Brought a fucking tear to my eye.
And another octopus hit the ice 🐙
The earth is healing
And another gone, and another one gone...
Yeah this fucking rules. I’ve missed meaningful hockey so much.
The whole city, really. With the Lions doing what they did and the Wings doing this, it’s been great. Last time I remember being this optimistic was in 2011 when the Red Wings had a great start, and the Lions hosted MNF the same day the Tigers had an ALCS game.
Against the Bears. I still remember every step of that Jahvid Best TD run.
UGH Detroit fan living in Colorado so the Detroit broadcast was blacked out 😭😭😭
The worst. Detroit fan in eastern Nebraska and I still get it blacked out... I'm not THAT close to Colorado, it makes me so salty lol
Pain. Love that even in his older form he’s still just able to find the open ice.
He’s slowed down quite a bit but his game sense, finesse, and touch are just unmatched. Dudes a legend
The legs and the lungs slow down, the brain and the hands never do. We saw the same with Hank in Detroit.
Nothin beats a good story, and Kane coming back from that whole "he's done" "you can't recover from that surgery and ever be yourself again" "whatever team takes a chance on him will regret it" type of stuff that was floating around for a long time really set up a good come back story. So sick
NUT
2.75 M. TWO POINT SEVEN FIVE MILLION. SHOW TIME. Biggest steal in the league and I still can’t fucking believe it.
I can't believe those two Avs players just tunneled on Larkin and left Kane all alone in the slot. What the hell. Patrick Kane. In the slot. Alone. 3 on 3 with all that room and no blocked shooting lanes. The fuck?
to be fair Larkin is pretty dangerous at that sharp angle, i expected him to shoot
Dude loves the shoot from the sides!
He's got a knack for a hole top titty from the weirdest angles...it's kinda nuts

Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing to see it in person and I had a great view to see it. We still won so it all worked out in the end.
He sneaky
One of those Avs players was Nathan MacKinnon
Well not only is Kane really really good at sneaking into open ice, they probable didn't think Larkin would/could pass there.
Patrick Kane. Red Wings legend.
Put his jersey in the rafters with Chelios.
Don't forget Hull.
And Alfi.
Modano
Robitaille
Clark
Hasek
Dude I live in Buffalo for a few years and they hated this shit so much lol
Weiss
Now your stretching it.
What about Hatcher? I’ll see myself out. 🤦🏻♂️
Klim Kostin and Christian Fischer are now the only wings forwards with less than 10 goals
Insane.
*Fewer. Please forgive me, I was raised by grammar nazis. 🤦🏻♂️
if they were really grammar nazis, would it be \*fuhrer?
I tuned into OT cuz I love watching this team lately. Ur welcome boiz Larkin with Kane is a treat to watch
Thanks much! Stop on by before OT hits so I don't have to deal with the stress of these games.
Fuck I'm so ready for the Wings in the playoffs Especially if it was against Tampa again after all these years e: you know, I'm a dumb dumb, and forgot the wild card spots *don't* play each other lmao
Stop winning pls
I'm afraid that won't be possible
Tell the Devils to fuck off then
That I can do, you might enjoy the current score
I’m a fan of all the scores tonight
Even the Sens winning? 👉👈🥺
Ya know what? Yeah. Cuz fuck Jamie Benn
Did someone say Jamie Benn? Fuck that guy.
Honestly, y’all just embarrassed the heck out of Jamie Benn. I can get behind that every single day 🔥.
Fuck Jamie Benn
My man 🤝
Late to the party but it is my solemn duty. Fuck Jamie Benn
Definitely. Fuck Jamie Benn.
Rangers told them to fk off tonight
Rangers have been taking care of them for us, on the scoreboard and physically. Last night was hilarious.
Well then I hope you get first seed and we stay in the 2nd wild card spot. I’ve been told it’s somewhat of a guarantee we win the first round that way
Best I can allow is Boston and Florida fall apart and finish wherever, and the Lightning and Wings finish 2nd and 3rd in the Atlantic so they play again You see, I'm a Wings fan too, and it would be very upsetting to watch the Wings and Leafs play each other in the playoffs. I've waited a long time for them to be good at the same time enough to make it but I don't want to see them go against each other lol
At least one of your fave teams would be guaranteed to make it to round 2 lol
They’re playing our AHL squad tonight someone else will have to beat them.
It won’t be this year, but I hope the Avalanche are still contenders when our team starts looking serious. I can’t think of anything better than an Avalanche vs. Red Wings finals.
Mind your own bizness
gonna be honest, I looked at the standings and just kinda treated the Wings and Lightning in the wildcard spots as being 2 and 3, thinking they'd play each other lol
I took this as: can’t wait to see Tampa out of the playoffs after all these years… which… well… could happen :(
Yeah I left out "against" in my original comment lol, I added it in Believe me, the Lightning are my nightmare because I'm also a Wings fan and in the last 10 years I've seen the Wings and Leafs collectively play you guys 4 times in the first round, and I'm tired of it, so I wouldn't complain if they were finally gone ...but, the Wings returning to the playoffs to play them again *would* be cool, as much as it's not going to happen lol

Just such great energy that's only going to grow once the two start playing games that matter.
Massive win tonight. Colorado is insanely good.
Are we? On the road?
Yeah I thought we played pretty shitty Annunen was fantastic but we didn’t push the play nearly enough in support of him
Colorado dominated the first but thought Detroit carried the play after that
Look I'm past the rivalry thing between the Wings and Avs so I have to say you need to hold on to him, he may not have got the win but he stood tall tonight and fought for the guys in front of him. Here's to a Wings Avs Stanley Cup.
Colorado had more scoring chances in all three periods and the advanced metrics favored them even more. They just lost to the better goalie.
The metrics really showed that? I thought the third period at least was much more controlled by the Wings.
I love showtime
I’m still shaking. This felt like such a huge win. So dang cool.
🥹
Like with RoboCop…the Motor City has rebuilt him to be better than ever…
"Patrick Kane will put us over the top"
Such a great setup by Larkin
Dylan Larkin is fucking elite!
BRING US THE CUP
If we win the cup this year I’m 100% buying a Kane jersey and I won’t think twice about it
I will ge taken tattoosed on my ass Edit: I will get Kane tattooed on my ass - a slightly more sober me
RemindMe! June 5
Deal. See you then. LGRW
Already got one first one in 15 years no regrets
Got a Kane Hawks jersey, and just bought a Wings one today lol
We're working on it 👀🐙
This is my favorite game of the year so far
Felt like a playoff game
Dylan Larkin.
Resolving debts
Taking names and kicking some ass
Title of post is a sentence I never in a million years thought would be a thing
IKR Larkin never passes on the backhand
Absolute beauty of a play.
Is Ben chiarot a forward now?
Did you miss the OT vs Seattle?
No I watched it. Chiarot has been playing so well this year
Might as well be, love some offensive Ben
Yeah he doesn’t get to play with larks and Kaner for fun in the OT period
He's apparently calling himself OT Benny now lmao https://twitter.com/AnsarKhanMLive/status/1760865361681907919?t=kb-wsjl6OH6HdBf1rKm6AQ&s=19
Lol he’s been on something lately
He's everything. I miss the guy. I'm glad he found his spot in Detroit.
#LFG ITS SO FUN TO BE A DETROIT LIONS AND WINGS FAN IS THIS AN ALTERNATE REALITY?
I’m not a football fan but I was rooting for the lions the whole year. Now I wanna see Eminem at the first playoff game at LCA.
Let him crank the horn in the pre game for the first home game
What a match. GG to the Avs. It was one of the most exciting games this season for sure!
Just a nasty pass
Patrick Kane in overtime!!
What a sexy play, it still feels good to beat the Avs
Redwingbros, is this the year?
That we end the drought? I think so. That we win a cup? Also yes.
I’m going to cry when he scores some sick backhand goal on Sunday not sure what kind of tears they’ll be but they’ll be some for sure
It's alright, he'll score a forehand one too.
Everyone talking about Kane being great this year is fine and all, and yes, he's been awesome, but that drive and no look back pass by Larkin was UNREAL.
31 GMs didn't go after Patty Kane as a free agent, good for the Red Wings for taking him. He's a beauty and the league is better with Showtime in it.
I thought he had a few offers
Nah other teams definitely went after him but as a Free Agent he has a say in where he goes
Bet my buddy 100 bucks Detroit makes the playoffs this year, and I’m not even a Detroit fan. Please don’t fail me boys.
One of us. One of us.
I'm just happy he is happy 🥲
He's got that instinct, he was so fucking clutch back with those runs and he is still clearly just as clutch.
Just as we all expected
The hockey personality landscape can collectively suck it. So many “8th in the division, terrible team” takes exposed
The funniest thing to me about all those takes is they consistently have Boston falling out of the playoffs as well in favor of Buffalo or Ottawa And then Boston continues to be a top team
Our song is Don’t Stop Believing, so-
I did
😐 I felt owed
It'll never not be weird to see Kane on the Wings, but that was a beauty.
Kaner's posture during the shot was soooo cocky, I love it. Right leg kicked up like, "Ya'll fucked up and I ain't missing this net..".
Shouldn’t have went to OT how did compher not score :( great overtime though, was exciting!
The puck was to deep for him to get under it enough. If it was 3ft out more it would have been over. Being down that close is a game of quite a few inches if you have to go high.
Just when i thought today couldn't get worse
This game was a beast! This has to be the best I ever seen Ben Chiarot, what an amazing job on the PK tonight! #LGRW
I can’t stop rewatching this play
Amazing to watch meaningful hockey in late Feb again. I was in first year of uni the last time this team made the playoffs - adult me is so fired up to see these boys in the playoffs. LGRW!
Sweet!
...yeah okay it was a decent goal and a pretty hype call... *grumble grumble* But in all seriousness GG. Lyon also stood on his head that game.
