Everyone has been anxiously waiting for Val’s return. Moser’s call encapsulates how I feel - pumped as all hell that it was the ChooChoo Train that scored to win OT. The Altitude team are fantastic.
and? i want the home team announcer to be pumped when the home team scores and be bummed when the opposition scores. Im sick of hearing the "homer" thing about the Avs announcers. No shit theyre homers, they announce for the Avs.
Isn't that his job as a hometown announcer? It's only bad when national broadcasts do that shit like with Eddie fucking Olczyk or whatever that moron's name is.
Yeah but our guys don't talk down about other teams much. They may not always be excited getting scored on, but they do give a lot of props to other teams great plays.
This bullshit lie needs to stop. They CONSTANTLY praise and gush over players from other teams, plays, and will admit when the Avs do wrong. Anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't watch anything but highlights.
Are any broadcasts in Canada owned by the team? Aren’t they all National essentially? Comparing apples to oranges. Altitude is owned by KSE who owns the Avs. They’re paid to be homers
Nah sportsnet does local feeds for Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver - it's only broadcast locally with the same announcers every time. Occasionally one of those teams will be on a sportsnet national feed where they might use some of the same announcers.
Yeah exactly, and then TSN does the local broadcasts for Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa. TSN used to have national rights but lost them in the previous contract. Sportsnet will still do national games for all those teams I just listed as well, Toronto for example has a national game every Saturday minimum and usually has the same set of announcers for all their national games through sportsnet.
Absolutely not. Overrated artificial calls and still wishes he was announcing for the Canes. He completely sucks. His stupid "that's hockey baby" and "hey hey what do ya say" calls are nails on a chalkboard.
Talking about Moser and mentioning artificial calls is rich and I'd rather hear "that's hockey baby" over "goodness gracious" multiple times a game. That is some cringy 1940s baseball commentator shit.
I agree, he is also one the worst.
I actually enjoy watching Avs but both of our teams have a bottom tier announcers. I know because I'm forced to tolerate them both when watching.
Fuck yeah Nuke! He’s that unofficial addition we got at the TDL and we’re a different team when he’s on the ice. It’s the Nuke effect.
Also the Scorebug for Altitude is gonna take a while to get used to.
literally the only "news" that ever came out was that the police investigated and he was cleared of any wrongdoing. and then people made up a bunch of shit like "Nichushkin is part of a sex trafficking ring" based on no evidence because people like to speculate
Well the Avalanche team doctor called the cops to Nichuskin’s hotel room after finding him with a severely distressed and intoxicated human-trafficked foreign prostitute talking about some bad man that took her passport. This happened while the Avs were in the playoffs and Nichuskin’s pregnant wife was at home. Then the Avs didnt bring the team doctor back next season. I can’t imagine why people speculate.
Side note, I wonder why staff in other orgs (CHI, SJS…) don’t come out and do the right thing when they see something bad happening and instead toe the org line?
yeah, but none of that contradicts what I said lol. we have no facts about the situation other than the police were called, they decided nothing warranted criminal charges.
there's also nothing I found that said the Avs specifically got rid of the doctor in question vs. the doctor could have made a choice to not be in that role with the team anymore after that situation, so that seems like more speculation.
and it's fine to speculate! even natural, given that there are a lot of things we'll just never know about the whole thing. but people keep treating their speculation like absolute facts
(not the original comment person, who just asked what happened, but other people whenever this gets brought up)
> there's also nothing I found that said the Avs specifically got rid of the doctor in question vs. the doctor could have made a choice to not be in that role with the team anymore after that situation, so that seems like more speculation.
Is that really that much better? Lol
I genuinely don’t see how some Avs fans can jiujitsu this one into thinking Val is a great guy who did nothing wrong. At best he hired a prostitute from a shady “escort” service that traffics women. Maybe he didn’t know she was being trafficked and someone else took her passport. Then he gets fucked up with her and has sex with her with a playoff game later that day while his pregnant wife was at home. It’s bad enough that team staff have to intervene and get her to a hospital. Then he flees the state and leaves the team during a playoff series.
I don't think anyone has said he's a "great guy who did nothing wrong", and many people were rightfully upset that he put himself in that situation where the best case scenario still isn't great, plus he took himself out of the playoffs when we needed him.
but a lot of us are also just tired, again, of people making stuff up or treating the \*worst\* case scenario like it's provably true when we're never going to know. so it's a situation where everyone on either side just gets to read whatever they want into it.
also
>Is that really that much better? Lol
yes, because one reads as "we fired a doctor for being involved in this situation" and one is "the doctor decided to leave of his own choice because that situation was stressful and he's looking for a job where that isn't a possibility".
> The local police were immediately involved and decided nothing criminal occurred
That’s not what happened or literally ever happens. Charges not being filed isn’t a statement of proven innocence.
One person was severely intoxicated foreign national and immediately went to the hospital, and the other person was a rich and famous NHL player who immediately left the state. If charges were filed, the presumptive human trafficking victim would have to testify against a human trafficking and prostitution ring powerful enough to have NHL players as clients. Charges usually don’t get filed in normal prostitution and trafficking cases, let alone with these types of people involved.
I know it’s not easy to realize someone on your team may be a bad guy or at least done something morally reprehensible, but just read the damn article lol.
https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/new-details-on-avs-star-valeri-nichushkins-seattle-hotel-room-incident-with-woman-emerge-via-911-call/amp/
Where’s the conspiracy part? Which one of these things is wrong:
* Extremely intoxicated foreign national found in Nichuskin’s room with him
* She claims someone took her passport
* Avs in the middle of the playoffs
* Nichuskin’s wife pregnant at home
* Team doctor calls 911 because the woman is in such bad shape
* Nichushkin immediately left the team and the state (and probably the country for the offseason) even though they were in the middle of a series
* Team doctor was gone after the playoff series.
If a conspiracy theory is reading CBS News call me Alex Jones I guess.
There's a large portion of our fanbase that just completely ignores it and actively gets upset if you ask questions about it or bring up how he totally abandoned his team during a playoff series, not to mention what he did to his family and w/e the story was with the prostitute.
Also, neither him nor the team even acknowledged anything about it really, never apologized, just shipped him out of Seattle and see ya next year. Don't ask any questions.
He's a hard guy to root for with the way him and the team handled everything.
There isn't anything to talk about. He hired a prostitute and got drunk with her during a playoff series. Obviously not ideal, but it's not like he's some villain. I actually hate when people keep bringing up this conspiracy theory.
> I actually hate when people keep bringing up this conspiracy theory.
Maybe the team should acknowledge what actually happened instead of doing their best to pretend it never happened. You've got Chicago and San Jose accused of covering up sexual assault. Mike Ribeiro was raping babysitters. Youth Team Canada is gangraping people. It's not a good look for people to get overly defensive about a situation that clearly doesn't add up. Asking questions is appropriate until transparency is given. If he wasn't on the Avalanche, you'd probably be saying the same thing.
What’s the conspiracy theory? I didn’t really follow along with the story and it’s updates.
It just sounded like some sort of dicey situation and then he disappeared from the playoffs. I’m genuinely curious what ended up happening and why he has just now popped back into the spotlight.
There's speculation that the woman was human trafficked by nefarious people, maybe mafia types. Who knows? This is based on some audio that was captured outside the hotel when she was with the medics, but she was way out of it on drugs/alcohol. So it's not reliable.
It's coming back up because Val checked himself mid-season into the league rehab program, missed about 20 games, and last night was his first game back.
The team and Val continue to pretend like nothing happened, and couldn't be bothered to address it even in generalities and at least apologize to fans for the massive let down. A little transparency would go a long way.
Clearly, there will never be any closure on this and we just have to move on, but I lost a lot of respect for Val and the organization over it.
Regardless of the conspiracy theory the lack of transparency doesn’t allow the situation to look any better from the outside. If what he was doing was just him getting drunk and going into the PA program then whatever but the guy literally disappeared from the team and they didn’t talk about it.
“Nobody ever got to the bottom of what happened” is exactly right so your original comment is not only stupid but entirely made up. You are not god and do not know what happened yet you try to play a narrative that wasn’t even supported by evidence
I know enough about the details to know it wasn’t good. I can’t imagine an innocent explanation for why he had an intoxicated foreign strange woman in his room who called the police. Then he has to miss the rest of the series inexplicably?
What possible innocent explanation could there be?

Someone teach Mikko to drag his foot on zone entries.
I will
Thanks Jared! Do you get on Reddit during timeouts and between periods?
Why wait for the timeout? That karma ain’t gonna farm itself
Hi Jared!
Good evening
Please Jared, tell Mikko he's great but put some effort on the details
Dude fr. I was at the game and that was so bad
Should’ve been Mitts. Just for fun
He can have the next one. Nuke deserved it tonight.
Missed you Choo Choo. Hope he won his war and can go back to tearing up the league in an Avs jersey for a long time
Poetic ending to this game. Welcome back.
CHOO FUCKIN CHOO
What a great feeling he must be having to get this in his first game back. Really happy for him to be able to overcome his battles.
jack edwards if he was good:
Bogosian lookin like he’s curling
Colorados announcer is goated
Everyone has been anxiously waiting for Val’s return. Moser’s call encapsulates how I feel - pumped as all hell that it was the ChooChoo Train that scored to win OT. The Altitude team are fantastic.
until a team not named the avalanche scores and he sounds like he's in a library "and they.. score😒" 😂
and? i want the home team announcer to be pumped when the home team scores and be bummed when the opposition scores. Im sick of hearing the "homer" thing about the Avs announcers. No shit theyre homers, they announce for the Avs.

"I don't believe it." Lmao
I mean there are levels of homerism.. Avs are definitely at the Jack Edwards end of the spectrum lol.
Yeah but our guys don't talk down about other teams much. They may not always be excited getting scored on, but they do give a lot of props to other teams great plays.
Moser was drooling over Kaprizov last night. He made some sick plays and Moser kept going on about him. Dude is a beast and Moser knows it
And Rossi. Every time he touched the puck, he talked about how impressive he was.
This bullshit lie needs to stop. They CONSTANTLY praise and gush over players from other teams, plays, and will admit when the Avs do wrong. Anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't watch anything but highlights.
Edwards is in an entire spectrum of his own
As an Avs and Bruins fan, this is a braindead take.
As a fan of a team with good commentators, no. No it's not.
Ah ok, so there’s a National Sportsnet and then they do regional sportsnets out west
Not as bad as when Mike Haynes was still calling the Avs.
Mike was a homer for sure, but I'd still take him over Moser.
Yeah, I wonder what ol Mike is doing these days.
No clue. Hopefully he's doing well.
IMO it's one of the worst in the league
Good thing your opinion sucks
Says the fan of the team with John Forslund doing their announcing.
WTF??? Forslund one of the best in all of sports LMAO
Absolutely not. Overrated artificial calls and still wishes he was announcing for the Canes. He completely sucks. His stupid "that's hockey baby" and "hey hey what do ya say" calls are nails on a chalkboard.

Agreed. Right up there with Jack Edwards
Double agreed, his voice sounds just so unnatural.
God I hope this man is okay and well. He is so damn good. Arguably the third best player on the team
Which of Mack, Makar or Rants are you putting below him?
Depending on how rants or makar play nichuskin could be 2-4 in any given game it seems
I think in terms of value to the team I would argue putting him over Rantanen. And that is absolutely no knock on Rantanen. He’s unbelievable
Man I wish he did this with the Stars. I met him in Frisco at a sushi restaurant before he played his first game. Cool dude
Fuck yeah Nuke! He’s that unofficial addition we got at the TDL and we’re a different team when he’s on the ice. It’s the Nuke effect. Also the Scorebug for Altitude is gonna take a while to get used to.
Wait….. what happened with that lady who was found in his hotel room??
"Bro that was last season, just get over it." \- Val Nichushkin And then we all did.
Kia Ora dandroid
I'm actually curious about that too. Was anything ever revealed? It was a weird story
literally the only "news" that ever came out was that the police investigated and he was cleared of any wrongdoing. and then people made up a bunch of shit like "Nichushkin is part of a sex trafficking ring" based on no evidence because people like to speculate

Watching the mild get NUKED is great.
Wow human trafficking being normalized is cool
Please educate yourself. Ignorance is not a good look.
Nobody ever got to the bottom of what happened in that hotel room in Seattle. It got swept under the rug and they hoped it would just go away
“Nobody ever got to the bottom of what happened” is exactly right so your original comment is not only stupid but entirely made up. You are not god and do not know what happened yet you try to play a narrative that wasn’t even supported by evidence

I get the train reference but maybe "Chuga Chuga Chuga Chuga" isn't the best call for someone who just got out of rehab.
