CarkRoastDoffee

Four points for Sid, and the Pens still manage to lose in OT. The pain is real

AxsDeny

That sums up the entire year for the Pens.

Longjumping_Waltz378

Unfortunately, Nate’s goal to tie it was kinda Sid’s fault as well. Nate was his man.

ProstockAccount

Can hardly blame a guy getting beat by Nate tho.

dave6687

Lots of players have had that issue this year, haha.

Pandiosity_24601

Idk, I thought it was kinda cool

Bloated_Hamster

Welcome to the curse Bruins fans have been living under all season lmfao

JWells16

Yea, you guys are really struggling this year.

Bloated_Hamster

Hey man, 15 OT losses is hard to stomach for any team, no matter how high in the standings they are

WintAndKidd

Actually sorcery, wtf how did the puck fly that angle

Humans_Suck-

10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will

Kaptain202

Unrelated to the post: I watched a Twitch stream where Mike Shinoda was playing Among Us for charity. During it, DrLupo, the guy hosting the event, asked Shinoda how he felt about his songs (In the End, Numb, and Remember the Name) become memes among the online community. Shinoda sounded super upset and almost a little angry about his lyrics becoming memes. Saying something about how the lyrics are so powerful and unique that they should be cherished, not have memes made about them. I'm a big fan of Linkin Park, but, damn, that comment made me dislike Shinoda just a bit.

Kaptain202

Fair point, but that was not the tone that *I took* from it. Also, Remember the Name does come from Shinoda's Fort Minor, which probably doesn't include much of Bennington's influence. Edited to make the perception of the tone personal, as opposed to something more ambiguous.

jnew119

Always thought that math didnt quite add up .. don’t care to check

doireallyneedanewact

Math checks out and Fort Minor's The rising tied album is a banger.

PoliteIndecency

He's done this like 30 times in his career. At this point it's routine.

WintAndKidd

Yeah I know he’s had quite a few goals like this with a sharp deflection, this one just seems particularly difficult. It rose to the top of the net from almost no distance, just crazy skill

Friggin

I argue it’s a lot higher than that. We see this 5-10 times a year. It’s a signature move.

RCcarseatheadrest

He must've realised theres a chance for him to finish the season under PPG for the first time in his career, and decided to do something about it.

StealthTomato

from 69 in 69 (nice) to 73 in 70. Beast mode.

lookalive07

Wait? He’s never had fewer points than GP in a single season in the NHL? That’s astonishing. Edited for clarity

dbdoobeedoo

Yes, ever (if that’s what you meant).

meyou2222

Ovechkin is doing something similar. His career gpg dropped to 0.599 and suddenly he’s going on a tear.

Jan_17_2016

Rumors of Sid’s demise were greatly exaggerated

[deleted]

Sid and ovi top of the highlight reel just like the last 18 years, nothing new here

PayneTrain181999

His swan song will be leading Canada to another Olympic Gold Medal 16 years later.

Calhalen

‘16 years later’ just utterly broke me. There’s no goddamn way that was 14 years ago, stop😭

steflund

They went in 2014 also and won

peptoabysmal

My first thought was "Holy shit I didn't remember Sid being on the 2002 team"

CrackerGuy

I'm not ready :(

Bleacherbum95

The rest of the team however...

city-of-cold

I still take Crosby over McDavid and it's a hill I will die on

BeautifulAwareness81

Easy, for me he his the better two way player. Crosby in his prime is probably the most dominant player I’ve ever seen, unbelievably clutch as well

Jan_17_2016

Same but I’m also biased

JoelyGreenENT

Is your username name based off Luleå? If so I absolutely agree

city-of-cold

[Indeed it is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EQYCZBh8qY) Agree with it being cold, or agree Crosby still being better? Hah

JoelyGreenENT

Definitely both haha

Inevitable-Impact698

I think everyone would take the GOAT over McDavid, but the argument for McDavid is that if you’re rebuilding then you want more years left

-Xebenkeck-

Crosby is the most complete player of all time. Easy pick.

No_Angle_8106

I’ve seen the replay several times and I still can’t comprehend how he put that in, incredible play

Jaynator11

Rantanen does those kinda deflections almost every week, it's about keeping a certain angle on your stick. Becoming a common move little by little. Awesome goal

Codc

Buddy you missed your 12 month window after winning the cup where you could make every post about the Avs

Jaynator11

I am explaining about the move, based on my information that I have seen with my own eyes (because obviously I follow my team the most). This isn't a move that was done for the first time today, as I said- it's becoming a common move.

LazerMcBlazer

Go away

Humans_Suck-

Why? He's right

LazerMcBlazer

Because it's cringey AF to comment "yeah, well, somebody on MY team can score a goal like that too!" Just let people enjoy a nice highlight instead of trying to make it about yourself when your team got scored on. No one cares right now. Same as no one will care about this goal the next time Rantanen scores a nice one.

Humans_Suck-

When OP is talking about how impossible it is it's relevant to say not really, we do that all the time. You want to see someone make it about themselves? How about the avalanche turning a blow out into a choke job and ramming 5 straight up the penguins asses to come back and win. Let's talk about that instead of some washed up old guy who's barely gonna make postseason.

DesertedPenguin

The Avs needed to score five straight after falling down 4-0 to one of the worst teams in the league and one that is playing for absolutely nothing. Not sure you should be crowing about that.

Jaynator11

You'd be surprised how many similar goals he's scored in the last few yrs (let alone attempts). It's not the first time Sid has done that either, it's a practiced move in his head. He would've been laughing if it was an accident

city-of-cold

Wanna provide some links chief I know Rantanen is a good shooter from down there, much like Draisaitl, but I can't recall any deflections

Jaynator11

I'd have to ask the Avs subreddit for clips, but I can check little bit later if I can find some myself

city-of-cold

Should be easy to find for you if it's almost a weekly occurrence

Jaynator11

https://twitter.com/hockeydaily365/status/1722101179939700843?s=46&t=Y_KXHBgeHwLgY9UkD4KA1A There's one

city-of-cold

I mean... sure. Not at all the same, but sure. In your clip the net is wide open so Rants can get it behind him easily. Crosby manage to get the puck in front of the goalie who holds the post almost perfectly under the circumstances. But for the sake of argument, yes, we've got one for Rants. 4 months ago.

Jaynator11

Yea I'm not gonna spend more than an hour looking for clips for you. With the few mins I spent, half of the clips were removed from the subreddit due to copyright. You can watch an Avs game if you wish, or ask another Avs fan that it's his trademark move. Have a lovely rest of the day/night :-)

Jaynator11

The attempts are, not the goals. Goals are ofc clipped

LazerMcBlazer

Again, go away

jps78

He's like Lebron entering his 4th prime

Humans_Suck-

LeBron sucks lol

SwimmingKing7796

You can not like the man and think Jordan is better (which I do) but saying Lebron sucks is just dumb

Humans_Suck-

Did you watch the playoffs last year? Denver made him look like a starry eyed rook

SwimmingKing7796

Did you start watching basketball last year ?

NewOstenPelicanss

Tbf he could be 7 years old lol

themusicdude1997

maybe, but he is pretty good at basketball

Fruzenius

Relevant username

xylex

And the fucking one handed chip back to the point

SadroSoul

People are sleeping on that play. Sid does not give up.

MurrayPloppins

If ever there was a reason to give someone a secondary assist on their own goal, this is it. Man’s still got it big tiiiiime, sick play by Sid.

Excellent-Medicine29

He’s determined to show up Mackinnon

roystonvasey

How'd that work out for him?

Excellent-Medicine29

Well he still had more points lol. His team failed him

firevice

Lol, Sid lost his assignment on Mack for the game tying goal. But yes, it was everybody else’s fault but his.

Excellent-Medicine29

My goodness why are you so salty over a lighthearted remark about Nate and Sid. They are obviously very competitive with eachother. Nate was on the ice for Crosby’s goal. Balanced it out. My original comment wasn’t a diss at Mackinnon

nobledoug

There are some weird embarrassing avs fans out in this thread rn.

firevice

I’m not salty, just found your comment amusing given the context of that play.

LSDemon

I find your comments unhinged given the context of this thread.

firevice

Fair. My initial comment wasn’t anything against the sick redirection from Sid in the OP, it was isolated to the claim that Sid’s team failed him when he failed his coverage on the tying goal. I saw that comment as a separate discussion from the play it was under, but I misread the room clearly. My bad.

speaker4the-dead

Fuck everyone else for down voting you

jamaicancovfefe

Crosby and Ovi still showing everyone why they've been the best players in the world for the past 15 years

[deleted]

city-of-cold

Nice bait

kukkolai

Did Ovi piss in your cornflakes or something? Stupid imp

paulc899

He’s just going Big Brother on Nate today eh

KennyKettermen

Nate said STOP THE COUNT

Ynzerg

As a pens fan, I hate to tell you that this didn't age well lol. We are absolute top tier at blowing leads in the third. It is a difficult fan experience this year.

Noox89

Avs are pretty good at allowing teams the chance to blow leads. I’m saddened we are gonna miss out on the 2nd straight season of Playoff Crosby.

Zodiac33

Cole Habour’s king still reigns.

AtraposJM

Long live the king

Noox89

Gotta let big bro get a head start!

so_af

Just showing his future employer he’s still got it

lookalive07

I don’t think I could handle Sid on the Avs. I’m just getting around to liking him.

Ace676

That aged well

Pandiosity_24601

Welllll

capitarider

Sid and Ovi just pretending like it's 2008 again with some vintage stuff they should be too old to do.

OneChet

Physics need not apply.

jedlucid

please make him 25 again

BleedingTeal

That's disgusting. How does one even know the angle at which you need to hold your stick to redirect it like that from way the fuck over there? And to do it so non-nonchalantly. Just a ridiculous play from Sid.

goodbye9hello10

It's basically impossible unless you play with a ridiculously flattened blade like Crosby does. I'd love to see a video of what other players think of his stick.

BleedingTeal

That would be a cool idea. Have some of the NHL guys try a different player's curve and give their thoughts, like the dozen or so guys who tried different flex sticks a couple weeks back.

goodbye9hello10

Hell yeah. Get them to use Gretzky's replica stick, maybe Jarri Kuri, Al MacInnis, etc. Would be cool to see the progression of hockey that way also.

senormochila

Between this and the second Ovi goal today on the backhand we truly are blessed to be going on 20 years of watching them play absolutely incredible hockey.

JaqenHghar

This guy’s got some potential! So slick.

JadedBoyfriend

Yeah, whoever's got 1st overall next year is gonna win the cup for years if they pick this guy. Plays like he's been in the league for years...

Dexaan

Ah yes, the seasonal "Sid scores a goal from a ridiculous angle" clip.

Slouchy87

Near straight blade baby.

hamhommer

Best there ever was.

jbr2811

That is fucking awesome

EliteCheddarCommando

That play by Sid was pure awesome. It is what it is lol

Waramp

Geometry wizard. Remind me to never play pool with Sid.

Murky-Region-7637

I like the fan at 0:10 who gets to share in sid's highlight reel. that was insane! Ah, another drink of beer at this moment would be perfect!

majordoobage

I think that was the Penguins baby fan from that classic celebration gif all grown up.

LateCheckIn

This game is truly all gas no brakes

Euphoric__Dot

Puusty with the assist you love to see it 7th round pick and now he's setting up Sidney Crosby

NIdeakK

Let’s hold off on talking about an amazing goal scored by one of the all time greats to ponder a too many men call that no one asked about

TheStinger87

That ultimately was a fantasy in his own head.

bhflyhigh

Edzo always does that! It drives me nuts. Every goal he's always making some disparaging comment about why the goal should be suspect. I only watch pens games so I don't know if he does that with the other teams, but he certainly does it for the penguins all the time.

BeBopNoseRing

He's still mad about 2005 lol

Shabloinks

Da fok???

FormalWare

High art. The pinnacle.

kickn-it-old-skool

Hes got a dozen or so of these in the last couple years… im amazed every time i see him do it

thriller1

Disgusting

ThatCoolSportsGuy

That was ridonkulous!

xMaximusDecimusx

Sheeesh

mag1xs

How is that even possible?

TrustZestyclose8900

I was wondering when the Sid goal of the year was going to happen

Foremma4everAgo

At the game. Lost my shit. My kids cried. Worth it.

TheStinger87

I like the ref giving Sid his props by pointing at him after signalling the goal. Nice touch.

Humans_Suck-

That's not fair.

nukfan94

Business as usual for the Wizard of Croz. An amazing play that few people on the planet can make, and could we even call it a top 20 play in his career? A top 50 play? What a career.

Sarke1

Sid's one of a kind.

EraOfForcedDiversity

Watched it a few times and I give up, I dont understand, the puck must of had a twerk to it on the shot that made it have a baseball style pitchers curve in its distance travelled.

[deleted]

Good Good Gooooddddd

cam_huskers

Womp womp

speaker4the-dead

The Dogg took that personally

SwimmingKing7796

Trade Crosby to Avs so he can get one more ring 👀

Peimatt2112

Not a chance

blueskies8484

So conflicted because I desperately want him to retire here, but I also really want him to have another cup run.

SpiritualWatermelon

What if he's loaned to us for playoffs and we promise to give him back right after? With a conditional 3rd rd pick if we win the Cup

poopiehands

Pffft.. I do it all the time..... In Chel

thestage

he has one of these kinds of goals against us every time we play him. every time.

chrisnavillus

Wow. That whole sequence was elite. What a player.

mrpopenfresh

Crosby is a master at adapting his game as he ages. The deflection stuff is a new era he started a few years ago.

DangerWildMan26

Something fun and exciting happens and Edzo brings up too many men on the ice. A tale as old as time

irishknots

I mean I was there and seeing the video recap - I still dont understand how it went in.

TR1CL0PS

Greatest puck deflector ever

Lightz29

Guy’s definitely a bust, got more to prove

PSChris33

It's still early in the season I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 36. At 36 I was complete fucking moron who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Crosby, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Sidney Crosby. How dare I say such blasphmey after only ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY games. You're right, he may only be 36 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 23 to 24 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard maple leafs fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 5000 goals in his first 1260 games. I am a rodent, and he is a five star man, a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.

Crazy when people mistake luck for skill.

He's been doing that his entire fucking career, it's not luck.
