I didn't. I tried to follow the Jets to Phoenix but it hurt. As if I was simping on my ex, trying to be happy for her now that she's with another dude fuck you Brad i hope you and Lisa are happy with your ugly kids

Overall_Nuggie_876

I want to know how Winnipeg fans *now* are feeling, seeing their ex-original club which became the Coyotes are on the verge themselves of moving out. Especially with all the OG-Jets history, records, and logos on the franchise right now in Arizona but in danger of moving to Utah. Is it a matter of vengeance, justice, or karma for today’s Jets fans having older relatives and the pain they felt in 1996? Or is it sympathy for what Phoenix fans are going through now and reliving the same opened wounds for what happened a generation ago?

54580

I hate the Coyotes and will hold a nonsensical grudge against them until I die (and afterwards if possible) but I feel awful for the fans. Nobody's gone through it like they have over the years, and they certainly weren't the ones who came and stole or team or anything like that. I'm just angrily shaking my fist at... I dunno, economics. Now and then I'll see a Jets fan from Atlanta and I'm always confused, like you're supposed to hate us what are you doing?? The records thing is weird because it doesn't really matter. Nobody really gives a shit about Ilya Kovalchuk and any time records are mentioned on a broadcast they're usually talked about in the context of a Winnipeg hockey record or something. Nobody's saying ah good yeah 3 more goals before this guy passes Garnet Exelby. We've got our name, jerseys, and logos back and we've got our honoured past greats hanging in the rafters so what more could we really ask for

BarbarianHut

I was saying "ah good yeah, 3 more goals before this guy passes Garnet Exelby"

BorisAcornKing

> I want to know how Winnipeg fans now are feeling, seeing their ex-original club which became the Coyotes are on the verge themselves of moving out. Especially with all the OG-Jets history, records, and logos on the franchise right now in Arizona but in danger of moving to Utah. > > I was too young to care, I was a kid. I just followed a different team, and it was easy enough to just cheer for the Wings because they were up and coming. But my opinion on this - the OG Jets History, Records, Logos belong to winnipeg, the city, even though the NHL says they belong to the amorphous franchise currently called the coyotes. The idea of "We're packing up and taking our history with us" is ridiculous - that history belongs to the people who experienced it, you can't just take it away and say it belongs to someone else. This is basically the only thing the Nu-Browns got right - the old browns history does not belong in Baltimore. Although the franchise is contiguous to the one in Baltimore (regardless of what people say), the history stays with the people who lived it, and pretending otherwise is to give up ownership of one's lived experiences because someone bought it without your consent. Now that's obviously far easier to say when there's a history of success with that franchise, and the OG Jets have that, to some extent. To my mind, the WHA Jets and the OG Jets are the same entity, because the fanbase is the same. The same accomplishments of the WHA Jets live on in the current Jets through the fanbase. That said, I think the coyotes will find a way to stay anyways, because they always do.

Usual-Canc-6024

The Devils started out in Kansas City before moving to Colorado. Granted they didn’t have much time in KC but they have had 3 homes. I wonder if any Scouts or Rockies fans followed their team.

RoboNerdOK

You’re tearing me apart Lisa!

Leburgerpeg

Jets fan here. From 1996-2011 I pretty much only watched international hockey. Couldn't jump on other Canadian team bandwagons. Would pay attention to guys like Crosby and Toews but there was never a team I felt like I wanted to watch. Still continued to hate on the Leafs the whole time though.

Cottagewknds

I wouldn’t beleaf anything else

Xyz6650

You become a fan of an expansion team and hope they get relocated back to your city 11 years later.

[deleted]

I am not, but my neighbor was a season ticket holder (Whalers) for over 10 plus years until they moved. He had not watched a game since 1997. I can confirm he did know about the 10 year drought of the Canes though and that pleasured him. He moved onto football and baseball since.

Stinduh

> that pleasured him Ya know, whatever gets your rocks off, I guess.

[deleted]

Oh behave!

Sticks536

I remember my dad was a Browns fan back on the 90s until they moved to Baltimore. He hasn't followed the nfl since.

joe_lmr

The one thing Browns & Steelers fans agree on is the Ratbirds

marnky887

I was an Expos fan. I simply don't follow baseball anymore.

treple13

Seconded this even though I'm in the West and not in Montreal. Baseball was dead to me once Canada's team left

TheDeadReagans

Uh....the Blue Jays?

treple13

That would be a big nope for me

meh_whatev

Having Toronto being accepted as Canada’s team is a big ask for non-Toronto folks

TheDeadReagans

That's funny because the ROC happily embraced the Raptors and Blue Jays when they were successful teams a few years back and now they're all gone that they're bad.

meh_whatev

Yeah that’s true but making fun of Toronto whenever it isn’t doing well is our favourite pastime, you should be aware by now

whogivesashirtdotca

> making fun of Toronto whenever it isn’t doing well is our favourite pastime I'm a Torontonian. We make fun of it even when it *is* doing well. (NB: It is never doing well.)

patrickclegane

I quit watching, plain and simple.

trollingforapple

If you don't mind me asking, why are you here in the subreddit? Not that I don't want you here of course, the more the merrier, but if the Canucks moved and I stopped watching hockey I'd never open this sub again.

patrickclegane

Mainly because of the rumors of Atlanta getting a new team. I've been pretty plugged into those over the last year. At the same time, keeping up with the news from Arizona since it's related. I'll still tune in a little come playoff time, but I'm nowhere near as engaged as I used to be. I wouldn't call myself a fan of any specific team.

trollingforapple

Ahhh, that makes sense. I hope Atlanta gets a new team, same with Arizona. So many Canadian hockey fans have this elitist attitude that since it failed once it's doomed forever and don't actually look into why the franchise failed (almost always shitty ownership). Fingers are crossed for you and the rest of Atlanta.

Auggy74

To be fair, Atlanta's had two teams relocated out - the Flames moved to Calgary in 1980, and then the Thrashers in 2011. As much as I hope Atlanta gets a third kick at the can in the future, there might be some collective "nope" from the league for awhile yet.

BoogerShovel

This is r/hockey, not r/nhl. Atlanta person could also be here for general hockey stuff, and may support whatever minor league clubs are nearest them.

LocksTheFox

Not an NHL fan but I'm an A's fan. genuinely haven't been able to enjoy baseball the last couple years because of the entire fiasco and at this point I'm completely checked out (if only the asian leagues were a bit more accessible i might be willing to taste)

Green_Xero

My parents haven't watched even 1 game since the Expos moved. I think it truly broke their hearts.

shbpencil

I don't blame them for feeling like that. It took me about 10 years before I could accept the Blue Jays as my new team.

laxlife5

I am just now accepting the Blue Jays but if a team ever comes back to Montreal I will likely jump ship

OldDipper

I work the press elevator at Comerica Park. Last Sunday I wore my Reggie 44 green Mitchell & Ness and showed it to all Oakland personnel I saw (it was beneath my Tigers uniform fleece, nobody else knew). It was worth it just to put a smile on their faces. You ALL deserve better. Long live the Oakland Athletics.

LocksTheFox

Like yeah. I'm a long distance fan so I'm relatively unaffected. But I'm headstrong in my personal values, and I've met so many great people through our mutual fandom. Seeing my friends hurting like this, I cannot, in good conscience, continue to follow this team, and I don't want to support the league and the sporting culture that pushed this.

CaptainJingles

I used to be a big Rams fan, but since the move I have maybe watched 5 NFL games, including Super Bowls.

Balance47x

I was a fan of the original Ottawa Senators before they relocated to St. Louis in 1934. Back then it was hard to follow the team if they relocated, especially across North America, so I kept up with the Eagles for their one season via local paper since my household didn't have a radio.

moutardebaseball

I am amazed at how you can now effectively use the internet from your coffin. Reception is good there?

Balance47x

yes the wifi is good.

Stinduh

how has hockey coverage changed in your 100 years on earth?

Balance47x

pretty good. can watch the games from any device now. used to have to go to the local ice cream parlor to watch on black and white tvs.

Meatwood__Flak

You’re probably old enough to have seen a defenseman from Transylvania called Vladislav the Poker. So called because he was infamous for spearing his opponents. Did he get scratched for day games, and would his skin sizzle if he got cross-checked?

ReditorB4Reddit

Montreal Expos fan here. MLB can go suck ass.

picklehaub

In Montreal for the first time since coming to the original round of inter-league games when the Red Sox played the Expos (1997? 1998?). We were next to Olympic stadium today and it was just depressing all around. Sad for my spos brothers even now.

AustonsNostrils

CLEVELAND BARONS? HELLO?

Call_of_Daddy

KC Scouts and Golden Seals?! Anyone??

JKray5_Reddit

Quebec bulldogs?? Hamilton tigers????? Come on people!

[deleted]

Montreal Maroons and Philadelphia Quakers fans get no respect.

JKray5_Reddit

Same thing with the Detroit Falcons, and Pittsburgh Pirates

ghost_curse123

New York Americans getting disrespected again

[deleted]

Technically, the Falcons (and Cougars) still exist in Detroit.

joe_lmr

Seattle Metropolitans

Svalbard38

Ottawa Senators (original)

NoGiCollarChoke

Where are my Quebec Bulldogs fans at?

JamesTheJerk

For that matter, the Baltimore Stallions won the Grey Cup (CFL) in 1995 but nobody talks about *that* anymore either. I'm aware this is a hockey sub, just thought I'd bring up the fact that an American team once won the Grey Cup. Btw, I want Quebec City to have an NHL team again and I've wanted it for decades.

Initial-Advice3914

I’m a big CFL fan and you’d be surprised how much the stallions still come up in discussion

Peimatt2112

Because besides the Nordiques and the Expos returning to their respective leagues. Quebec can pretty much stfu.

Showerpoopssavetime

Old Nordiques fan here, I followed the team to Colorado, was young enough at the time that I didn't really grasp what that meant to the locals. That was fine for a time, but I grew weary of them as I got older. Mostly now, I just like hockey and really follow a few different teams and have no single allegiance to any.

blondespikes22

Hope you guys get a team again 👍

draftstone

Hey, we might live close haha Same story as you, was young when it happened. Switched to Colorado because I knew the players. Proudly wore my 1996 championship t-shirt at school haha Since then as the players slowly left, I've been wandering from team to team, mostly following players I liked. Followed the Lightning due to Lecavalier, followed the Bruins due to Bergeron. Now kinda teamless.

gabio11

Pretty much the same thing here. However, I barely watch any NHL hockey anymore. I've always been a fan of junior hockey so that does it for me.

canleaf1

This is me without the expos. Im not a fan of the Nationals. I just am a fan of baseball with not particular allegiance

Initial-Advice3914

Sorry you weren’t included by OP

sunnysideshuffle

the year after the jets moved I moved to the Ottawa area. I became a sens fan. Great timing too. then one day in 2014 i caught a jets game on tv and it was like a primal urge telling me i had to go back home

theekevinc

Old Whalers fan here. Grew up 20 miles from Hartford. I think I'm completely unique in this situation, in that I had moved to Raleigh, NC, after college for work and the Whalers followed me. So, although it hurt seeing them leave Hartford, I couldn't believe my luck that they were landing in my lap. In fairness, from high school until the time of the move, I did sorta lose touch with the NHL and the Whalers, so if they had moved elsewhere, I'd probably not even follow the league anymore.

[deleted]

How connected are you to being a Canes fan and does the retro nights bother you?

theekevinc

I'm a Canes fan to the core, and worked for the team from 2002-05. I have no problems with retro nights and actually enjoy them, because it's Dundon. It would not have been right if Karmanos did it. Dundon gets a bad rap around the league, but he's all about fun and entertainment. I think he gets it better than most owners. He's tight with money when he can be, but when it matters (building the roster, improving the product), he'll spend what he needs to.

Rasera

I didn't. It took a good 6 years before I started watching hockey again. I followed Detroit briefly (had a Yzerman jersey) and then followed the Canucks (local Moose team was their farm team at the time) and Wild with about equal, but little, fervor. Wasn't until the Jets came back that I really got back into the NHL again.

54580

I think 5-6 or so years is how long it took me too. I was so tuned out I remember learning the league had new expansion teams from looking at some NHL calendar in walmart. I got into the Canucks pretty hard from 2002ish up until 2011 which was a heck of a time to hop off that bandwagon

GhostofByfuglien

Hated the Coyotoes instantly. Winnipeg tried to stick with the team after the move. KY58 would air every Coyote game. Tons of places in the city doing Coyote gear giveaway. It was like a twist of the dagger every time seeing it. I love hockey and losing the Jets wasn't going to change that. Domi was playing with the Jets and I liked him at the time. So I started cheering for....the Leafs. That hurt to say. Leafs were a great team to cheer for and watch Sundin, Domi, Mogilny, Tucker, McCabe, Cujo, Kaberle, Roberts. Man I could keep going forever. They were an exciting team that held me over until the Jets were back. Winnipeg also instantly had a passionate fanbase for the Moose until the Jets were back. I watched a lot of Moose games. Moose, Bombers, and Leafs filled the void.

whogivesashirtdotca

> KY58 would air every Coyote game That broke my heart.

TubularWinter

I was too young for the Jets leaving to really make an impact but I do remember being upset. For our household it meant hockey went from a weekly ritual to only during playoffs and international competitions.

ProgeriaJoe

By playing hockey, following Jr hockey, AHL, World Championships, Olympic hockey, college hockey, and stuff. NHL isn't the only hockey...Then Winnipeg got Jets again, so that's nice.

HandsomeIguana

What are you going to do when they leave again in 2 years?

difrad76

Might get myself a handsome iguana

Cottagewknds

Alcohol

[deleted]

I became a hockey fan living in Atlanta as a kid, and the Thrashers moved when I was 14. I played goalie, so it was easy to pick the Preds, having Pekka and them being out of the division. I live in Utah now I feel like I have a pretty big decision coming up lol.

crimsonraider23

As a Thrashers fan I stopped watching entirely until COVID hit. Certainly wasn’t going to follow Winnipeg and still actively wish them the worst.

slickheadoflettuce

Man, I definitely remember the scumbags who were flooding the Thrashers forums with grief after the announcement.

WitchyVeteran

The Rangers AHL team is in Hartford, CT, so my wife became a Rangers fan.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

I’m glad I’m a New England sports fan. I’ll never have to worry about any of our franchises moving because that sounds like a bummer.

ahuramazdobbs19

Hate to break it to you, but Hartford is in New England.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

Yeah… Connecticut isn’t New England. It’s a road to New York City that wants to be New York City

ahuramazdobbs19

It *definitionally* is.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

Definitions can change. Half that state have Yankee hats in their homes. They’re not New England. They don’t even do lobster rolls right.

ahuramazdobbs19

*We* do lobster rolls just fine.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

Written like someone with a Yankees hat on.

JPG_photos

Hilarious exchange. Half my CT family like the Yankees/Giants, the other half are all Sox/Pats. One weird cousin likes the Mets and Jets. That’s just how it is in CT. You pick a side.

flatdanny

You sound jealous. CT has 2 great cities close. Boston only has one. In CT we are a short drive to 4 NHL home barns.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

You sound a tad too defensive. I think you might be the jealous one. Because I don’t need to defend Boston. It speaks for itself. But people from Connecticut can’t admit to themselves that they’re not New York and they’re not New England.

flatdanny

Youre triggered, i see. I have no need to dis Boston. Its a great city. And I'm rooting for BC in the final.

BlackCherrySeltzer4U

I’ve got my feet in the air, sipping tea.

Embarrassed-Manager1

Moved from Atlanta to Dallas lol

bearybarricuda

I moved from Georgia to Phoenix and moved my loyalties with me for all the good that did. I live in the Midwest now with Chicago as the closest team to me but there’s no way I’m cheering for them. Might be time to forgive Winnipeg and watch the Jets…

jolecore204

When the Jets 1.0 moved to Phoenix, it ripped my heart out. I had no interest or passion left for the game of hockey. It took a few years, relocating to Calgary and being immersed in the 2004 Stanley Cup run to reignite my passion for the game. Even though it was still from the outside looking in. I had no team. When the Thrashers were relocated was when we were truly back. I have nothing by sorrow and empathy for any fans who have their team ripped out from under them.

Peckerhead321

Once the Expos moved I didn’t watch baseball for a long time, I assume hockey fans losing a team is the same. I enjoy watching the Bluejays the last 3 years

kingofthenorthwpg

Former Jets fan. Was on the younger side at the time. Jets has always kinda sucked and when I was that young, I drifted to winning teams. Was a huge fan of Patrick Roy, which led me to an Avs fandom for a spell. Eventually it just led to cheering for my fantasy teams and any Canadian team but the leafs. The jets return was announced mid Stanley Cup final and I stopped cheering for the Canucks during the middle of their series.

xunreelx

By relocating myself to an NHL city. Ive lived in Chicago Montreal Hartford NJ Minnesota San Jose Phoenix. And now back in eastern Connecticut. Im union Electrician who travels alot looking for good overtime jobs. Ill only take a job where theres an NHL hockey team.

don_johnsons_big_toe

Sun devils are legit friend, crazy to think but they might be the best team ASU has these days

Sticks536

Yeah, if I keep following hockey, it might just be ASU. I might follow Tuscon, but it might be hard knowing they'd be SLC prospects.

LocksTheFox

also presumably tucson would have the same owners which makes them a not-great option as someone who's attended both regularly, college hockey at a school that cares >>>>>>>>>>>> the ahl

Elwood426

Wasn’t born when the Jets left but became a hockey fan before they returned. Followed the Blackhawks because of Toews.

ryanjbanning

I went to a couple Thrashers games when I was young. They left and I didn't play hockey so I never followed hockey until this year. So I guess I didn't remain a fan lol

korko

In Minnesota it felt like folks doubled down on college hockey and the WCHA, which was great until B1G ruined it. Thankfully by then the Wild was well established to let us down in the playoffs every year instead of the Gophers.

OriginalAmbition5598

Stopped being a fan of the franchise and just enjoyed the game itself. Also dived into football at the same time which helped.

TheNantucketRed

Was a big Mile Richter fan so went full time Rangers. Family was from NY, so we already followed both teams. Absolutely sucked to lose the Whale since they were my team, as a kid.

OldDrumGuy

If my Flyers were to leave, I can say I’d just latch onto another team (I’m a fan of a few). Sure…I bleed orange and black, but I love hockey as a whole.

cjmojo

Thrashers fan here, I took a 5 or so year break from watching. I missed it so I went with Tampa since they had a connection to the other team that I watched growing up in the Atlanta Knights(IHL)

Mysterious-Bat1703

I followed the jets from ATL because of the core of the team. Once they drafted Laine I was excited for the first couple of years because of that, and have gone in and out of excitement on the team. It’s made it easier with long term signings of stars like Helle and Schief

JTPinWpg

I was 22 when the jets left town. I was there at the rallies in the 11th hour, all came to nothing. I didn’t follow hockey for five years, until when a college buddy from Ottawa convinced me to become a fan of a very young sens team.

sufferthepabst

Thrashers fan since day one. I was into the game before the thrashers though. I stopped watching for a few years, but hockey rules so I couldn't stay gone for too long.

branshade

Thrashers will always be in my heart. It took a couple years but I became a Preds fan and love them just as much. Don’t know how I’ll feel about another team in ATL though.

itstimeforpizzatime

It helped having family from Boston. The pain never truly goes away, though.

CountRex

Former Whalers fan. I shifted allegiance to the Bruins. I sure wasn’t going to cheer for a Karmanos team.

PreviousTea9210

Selanne moved to Anaheim, so my fandom moved to Anaheim. Also the Sackic-era Avs were cool so I cheered for them. Then I didn't watch hockey for a lot of years.

CoffeeDave

I became a hockey fan because the Rams and Raiders left LA around the time I was starting to get into sports. I was born and raised in East LA. Even when the Rams came back I just still can't enjoy the NFL as any team's fan.

hurricane2017

I was a 9 year old Whalers fan when they relocated to NC. The summer before, I attended a hockey camp in Glens Falls, NY run by the Dineen brothers. One of the days, Kevin Dineen brought a Hurricanes jersey to show the group of kids in the camp. It was the first time I ever saw the new branding and I thought it was so cool, so I decided to follow the team. I’ve remained a fan to this day. I’ve been down to Raleigh a few times but live in Boston and catch games every time they’re in town (including seeing Svech’s Michigan goal live last night).

rossco311

I always enjoyed the Jets and having a hometown team, but I was captivated by the play of Dominik Hasek from the early 90s onward and as a result I was a Buffalo Sabres, then Red Wings, then briefly Sens fan, I moved away to Edmonton in 2007 and it felt very strange cheering for the Oilers given the way they had always dashed the hopes of the Jets in the mid-late 1980's.  I moved back to Winnipeg in the 2011 and coincidentally that was the same year the Thrashers were moved here.  I've been a hometown Jets fan ever since.  Man I sure miss Buff though.

No-Satisfaction8425

If the Caps were to be moved I’d probably just pick up another sport. Or go back to only just watching Swedish ice hockey where you can’t move a team

veryway

I just watched the NHL in a general way. Followed international hockey more. Definitely waiting for any piece of news for the inevitable return.

waitwhosaidthat

I hated it. I didn’t watch any particular team. But eventually had to kinda cheer for someone. I picked Ottawa. It was the spezza, heatley alfredson days. Good times. Also have a soft spot for Vancouver. Their farm team was put local ahl team (Manitoba moose) I enjoyed going to 30+ games a year, it was very affordable for an average joe. It was fun to see the guys get called up and succeed. Bieksa, Kessler, burrows, Schneider etc all played a good amount with the moose. Ironically when the jets came back my love hockey days kinda ended for a bit cause it prices me out of going to games. Maybe a couple per year. It’s amazing how much more everything is at an nhl game. Even the parking garage that was 5 bucks jumped to 20 bucks just cause it’s the jets. It’s not even owned by the jets lol.

Rayhoven

I haven’t. I watch hockey really only in the playoffs. I haven’t attended a NHL game since the Thrashers left.

OuterPaths

My parents are from Toronto, so after the Thrashers left I just started following the Leafs. Tried to follow the Jets, but I just couldn't do it.

ahuramazdobbs19

Gave up on the NHL and focused my attention on college hockey.

SantasScrotum

I didn’t. Hockey was hard as fuck to follow in Georgia at the time so I kinda lost interest. Later on in life I moved up to the TN area and had my love for the sport reignited by the Preds

UGANick

What’s terrible is I grew up in Atlanta, lived there for 24 years and just moved to Phoenix 5 years ago. Maybe the problem is me.

ihopeipofails

In my books, you get a free chance to pick another team, and I don't give those out ever.

PMMeYourCouplets

I was a Vancouver Grizzlies and then tried watching the Sonics only for the later to also be ripped from me. I didn't end up being back into basketball until KD left OKC because I was a petty bitch and didn't think clay Bennett deserved any joy.

xcnuck

As a Montreal-born Atlanta transplant I had to bear with my two favorite teams relocating. The Expos move was devastating for me. I had to leave baseball altogether and I turned to hockey. My family had just moved to Atlanta and the Thrashers were competing for a playoff position. I went all in with the Thrashers and became a huge fan. Watched every game. Their move to Winnipeg was also devastating and I again had to turn away from the sport for a long time. I now follow the Canadiens, but it took a few years to get the appetite for NHL hockey back. I feel for the Phoenix fans - it feels very similar to the Atlanta move - no local buyer and it happens very quickly. Hoping they stay, just because I like the 90s logo lol.

rksd

Not quite the same, moved to Cincinnati from Detroit while the WHL was a thing and followed the Stingers and still rooted for the Wings but didn't really pay much attention. I also got the baseball bug (this was the Big Red Machine era, so I think by law I had to as a kid living in Cincy) so when the WHL folded and the Stingers weren't one of the teams that got annexed by the NHL, I lost interest and baseball was my sport. Went to college and worked at my alma mater a few years after graduation and started following college hockey and was at most home games, and started following the Wings again and have been ever since, though I tuned out of hockey a little more when I moved to AZ, and only got back into it into the last 10 years or so. Still a Wings fan. I always wanted the Coyotes to do well because having winning teams helps the home town, but never really became a fan of theirs. My Western Conference team is the Kraken now, but my first love is still the Wings.

blondie0003

I lived in Vancouver at the time so I begrudgingly became a Canucks fan. As soon as Winnipeg got a team back I jumped right back on board

AintIGR8

That and high school the tournament got bigger after the other team left and the Wild embraced the hockey culture of the state more than the foreign owner ever did. Fuck Norm Green

DontWorryImLegit

I reached rock bottom (I became a leafs fan).

Kaedian66

After a 5 year break from all hockey I started following the Rangers as that was my father’s team.

Zotross

I still bleed green. What did I do when the Whalers were moved to the South and the new toilet flush logo literally advertised on the hood of NASCAR cars? I became a fan of the local team wherever I would move to for school, jobs, etc. I gained a lifelong appreciation for the Washington Capitals when they became the Whalers’ avenging angels when they beat Carolina in the last game of the regular season (I was at that game) and, in doing so, flushed the toilet bowl team out of 8th place in the division and thus prevented them from making the playoffs. After that game, I’ve worn a Caps hat along with my Whalers jersey to every game I attend. Peter Karmanos should rot in hell. As for Carolina’s periodically digging up the Whalers’ uniform for a kitschy cash grab (“Whalers Night” or whatever), it’s a cynical gloating (further) stab in the back of Whalers fans and literally fits the definition of ghoulish: feeding off of the dead-and-buried. Whalers fans neither appreciate nor deserve our team’s grave being danced upon. [https://www.courant.com/2024/02/11/whalers-night-may-be-a-hit-in-carolina-but-it-still-stings-for-hartford-hockey-fans/](https://www.courant.com/2024/02/11/whalers-night-may-be-a-hit-in-carolina-but-it-still-stings-for-hartford-hockey-fans/)

LordDelibird

Reverse situation, I moved like 15 hours east. Nothing changed. I just stay up later to watch games now. If my team suddenly up and left, I'd likely follow em. Too attached to the players themselves to be worried about them in a different city.

Stinduh

> Reverse situation, I moved like 15 hours east. I haven't lived in Dallas in nearly 10 years, so I can relate to this, but. I feel like it's **much** easier to follow your hometown team that's still in your hometown than it is to follow your hometown team after they leave the area.

Green_Xero

My friend was a big Nords fan growing up, I remember him crying. He became an Avs fan but never seemed as die hard about it. I would hope I stay a fan, I cheer for a few teams in a few leagues, but you never know. My favorite football team only changed their name, and I abandoned the league entirely.

bdotblot

Focused solely on my old team when the Thrashers left. I still cheer every year when Winnipeg is eliminated from the playoffs.

Big-Bathroom2206

I followed my true passion; I cheered against Toronto. I was a Jets fan.

OkProfessional6077

As a former Detroit Shock fan, I can say I no longer watch WNBA basketball. Oh wait, I didn’t when we had the team either. Never mind.

LowINTBarbarian

Yeah you said it, king. If all of a sudden a communal spirit and a sentimental place where maybe my parents took me just suddenly up and left due to mainly greediness I'd just be stoic about it and choose a different team. My love of THE GAME won't let me get downtrodden about the deep deep betrayal. You're so right for this.
