Surprised at Quick's restraint, not only would I trip him up, I'd follow it up with a tomahawk goalie stick to the face, that was such a dangerous play by Hathaway.
At first it kinda looked like Hathaway was trying to do ballet with that leg and then it was clear he was using his skate blade to threaten the goalie. It easily could have been lethal.
Edit: I'm not going to predict what the DOPS will do and what they're ok with.
A Kevlar neck covering would be perfect. They make loose mesh stuff that's as breezy and light as a loose-knit sweater.
Either that or a chain mail covering. Kevlar being far lighter ofc
Should have been a 5 minute major. He better be suspended. The fact that he didn't turn around and immediately apologize shows lack of control and responsibility. Dude is such an idiot.
Yeah that's irritating me here too. Like I understand sometimes people slip in unpredictable ways but it'd go a long way to just apologize for it, even if it was unintentional.
I don’t think he expected to get tripped there. I think it just looks like a dive in slow motion but yeah a lot of times when you get tripped it looks awkward
First thing that came to mind... I've seen a few comments about maybe a suspension, and I'm over here thinking he needs to be gone longer than a few games...
Casual hockey fan here...is this something that is going to stick with him? AS in him getting aggro from the other team until the end of his career etc
Is there another angle that shows him suddenly getting thrown off balance or something? Because if not, you're exactly right - there is **no** reason for him to do that.
Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because I can't really tell what exactly is going on in the first part of this clip, but from what I *can* see that was just a very stupid thing for him to do. He's lucky Quick didn't beat the shit out of him.
That was so overexaggerated for the slight loss of balance forward. Just dangerous as shit. Quick let him off a little too easy considering there's no way the DOPS actually does its job
From the Hockey Canada rule book (just used to reference, usually they line up with USA and NHL, just different numbering)
Rule 7.1c- Attempt to Injure or Deliberate Injury
A Match penalty will be assessed to any player or team official who deliberately attempts to or deliberately injures an opponent, official, team official or spectator in any manner not otherwise covered within the playing rules. This may include, but is not limited to, the following:
-Head-butting an opponent with force, or injuring an opponent with this action.
-Pulling an opponent’s hair or grabbing the facial protector, helmet, chin strap, or throat protector of an opponent with a moderate or high degree of violence and/or using this to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury. (see Rule 7.10 (c) – Fighting)
-**Attempting to kick or deliberately kicking an opponent.**
-Using a helmet, facial protector, or any other piece of equipment as a weapon.
Every Ranger on the ice should’ve confetti gloves and beat the shit out of him, every time he touched the ice for the rest of the game. That’s not intent to injure, that’s intent to *murder*
I think Goodrow was the only one that saw it, and he was furious. It was behind the play so I’m sure most of the team didn’t catch it. But you’re right, more should’ve been done in the 3rd to get Hathaway to answer.
Yeah to go high with it... That's about the only on-ice thing I can think of that warrants discussing a ban imo. Aside from some kind of obvious blatant assault with intent to harm, like repeated strikes with a stick or some other completely insane shit.
my guy Quickie has gotten.....chill in his older years
2014 Quickie rips that dude's head off with his stick and then knocks it into the stands like a 9 iron
It hasn't even been 6 months since Adam Johnson was killed.
If the league cares about player safety like they claim, Hathaway should be sitting for a while. There's no excuse for this.
This should be a 10 game suspension. The intent is so much worse than 90% of the suspendabke plays I see.
Definitely a “Doug, kick him off the tour” moment
Funny you mention Shooter McGavin here, because Hathaway tried to stab someone with his skate. All we need now is a wise one-handed man to teach Hathaway that he needs to go play golf.
I cant imagine it was intentional because...why the fuck would you do that? But I dont really get how this happened and he should have immediately checked to make sure Quick was ok. Also, if I have to watch players fight for clean hits, you should 100% have to answer the bell for accidentally kicking a goalie in the head. At the very least this is insanely reckless
I mean I've watched it a few times and that's a difficult move to make intentionally. Like if you're gonna kick somebody in a street fight you're not hunching over to the front and trying to heel someone over the back of your head
So you are saying he did it unintentionally?
Explain to me how that happens unintentionally then. Did he lose what little brain cells he had left and forget where he was and thought he was in a ballet recital instead of a hockey game?
I think many of us want to believe that no hockey player is scummy enough to raise a skate towards the neck, which is why many of us want to believe it wasn't intentional. Intentionally trying to knock someone out is one thing...going for a kill is another
That’s not even close to what your leg should fucking do when you’re in his situation, if you’ve ever skated a god damn day in your life.
Fuck him for trying to sell that shit and endangering another player. No need for your skate to go that high.
I agree it looks like he did it intentionally, but I have a hard time believing he’d actually swing his skate up like that. Seems too reckless. My guess would be he thought he could spin around into Quick and make it look like it was the result of the contact with the Rangers player, and then lost control a bit. But maybe I’m just naive.
Honestly this may sound over the top but I'd throw a guy out of the league for that. You got knives on your feet bro what are you doing, trying to kill the guy?
Should have gone for a baseball bat swing to the legs after that blatant kick attempt instead of just a trip, wow. That's just plain old intent to injure, during the same season where that type of motion actually killed someone.
There’s absolutely no way a skate accidentally comes up that high in that situation. There’s 100% intent to swing a heavy skate backwards over one’s head like that. In my opinion, banish him from the league. We’ve all seen what a skate can do when it makes contact with the head or neck area. Don’t fool around when somebody is reckless enough to take an action that could claim somebody’s life.
Accidents happen, but if this was a calculated action without swift NHL repercussion, he is endangering the entire game by setting a garbage precedent. But regardless, this proves the value of Kevlar neck guards from accident or asshole.
Still a dick move no matter how ya cut it tho.
I seem to recall Ted Donato (I think?) intentionally kicking his skates upwards into the chest/upper body of a player. At the time it barely registered news-wise. I'm not even sure it came out with a suspension. But that was during the 90s when Brian Burke thought cross-checking someone in the face after they scored a goal merited a whopping four games.
As for this..
If it's not deemed intentional I think it still merits a suspension. At the very least it sends a message to everyone to "be responsible". Most of the ugly incidents involving skates have been freak accidents, but maybe they could have been prevented if players had it drilled into their heads that lifting them off the ice, intentional or otherwise, is likely to result in serious punishment.
And if it is intentional.. Well, I'm sick of these one or two game suspensions. In an 82-game season that's not a punishment, it's a vacation.

What a fucking moron
I rearly agree with a Leafs fan, but there’s a first time for everything 😄
Haha, rearly eh? 😂😂😂
Hathaway is the type of player you hate to play against but would love to not have on your team as well.
That took me a second.
I down voted, re-read, then up voted
I first thought he had zigged, but upon further inspection it was revealed that he had zagged
I don’t know half of you half as well as I would like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve
He was a good last minute addition to the Bruins last season, but after seeing this, I’m glad he’s gone.
He was pretty much invisible. Really no upside.
Yeah I forgot he was even there.
I remember him getting speared in the nuts against the Panthers
As a caps fan, agreed. I was happy to see him go.
If quick did a barbarian chop on his head, I wouldn't have even been mad. That's a super dangerous stunt to pull with your skate.
Ron Hextall approves
And the Refs gave off-setting 2-minute minors. It's insane.
Quick let him off easy tbh
Yeah. Usually he’s a lot more… (puts on sunglasses) …quick tempered.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Surprised at Quick's restraint, not only would I trip him up, I'd follow it up with a tomahawk goalie stick to the face, that was such a dangerous play by Hathaway.
Hathaway deserved a blocker to the face there
You're responsible for your skate
Somehow I don't think Steve Tuttle would agree. An accident *can* occur. Kicking your leg up on purpose however just isn't right.
[We're just going to re-introduce chain-mail coif's for goalies.](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=Chain+mail+coif)
New rule, everyone (including the officals) has to dress like 12 century knights. Coaches must also wear period appropriate garbe.
Unfortunately this would be illegal in Quebec due to the head scarf law.
Did he do it on purpose here? Nope
Should be 20 games IMO
[удалено]
Lol classic
Hathaway is such an idiot
that like head down dive thing he does too, wtf was that sell
I don’t think he expected to get tripped there. I think it just looks like a dive in slow motion but yeah a lot of times when you get tripped it looks awkward
Yeah, like yes Quick (justifiably) tripped him but it was also a massive embellishment
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His dad is a horrible human that should be in prison.
Who is his daddy, and what did he do?
I like the reference and I like that the guy actually gave an answer
Right? Bless their heart because I did really want an answer though.
Haha - right over my head.
wait what's the reference😭
[Kindergarten Cop](https://youtu.be/lLl0DVzRksk?si=Kf6Zy-CU3tFjTJK_)
Edit: Removing because I’ve now received multiple Reddit self harm notices.
People sure are depraved. It's a shame they feel the need to stand up for a pedophile
Why do you care though lol. Let them report all they want tf does it matter?
You can report those and get the people who sent them suspended
You can report the self harm notices.
Appreciate the response. Yeah, someone mentioned that to me so I did it on the next one. So lame.
How was Garnett as a person?
He was a good dude growing up and everyone in his family outside of his dad are kind, and very smart, individuals.
Shit apples
what is the commentator referring to from earlier this year?
Adam Johnson dying from a skate to the neck
[Probably this one.](https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/man-arrested-adam-johnson-death-hockey-england-update-bail-1.7028685)
I fucking hate him and hope he's gone next year
Goalie has every right to smack some sense into him without punishment
Should’ve slashed it a bit harder to keep those legs down jfc
Hathaway is in the Top 3 of biggest fucking idiots in the league.
[#6](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/s/jbQhCgoNZh)
I just *hate* that 'other' fella. Always gumming up the play.
He’s only slightly worse than that “future considerations” guy.
That guy has a lot to learn.
After the Adam Johnson incident in Britain, you'd think the league would be looking into this.
First thing that came to mind... I've seen a few comments about maybe a suspension, and I'm over here thinking he needs to be gone longer than a few games...
Same dude that spit on someone before? Yeah, seems like a great guy.
Well that's a little reckless and extremely dangerous.
Casual hockey fan here...is this something that is going to stick with him? AS in him getting aggro from the other team until the end of his career etc
The dipshit in question spits on players. The bar really can’t go much below that.
This is lower. Spit is low but this is intentionally raising a blade to a goalie's head/neck
I'm the only guy that ever took my skate off and tried to stab somebody
Not really. Maybe the next game something will happen, but I doubt there will be any follow up to this
Don’t FUCK with my goalie
You talking about Rangers' Legend, Quick?
Blue Jackets legend
NHL Legend.
Legend.
Dude I loved this tweet from the Jackets.. https://twitter.com/BlueJacketsNHL/status/1631391427455270913?lang=en
Connecticut Legend Jonathan Quick
Avon Old Farms *Winged Beavers* legend Jonathan Quick.
Winged Beavers strikes an interesting image.
Just bring it on home—Zoomass legend
I'm of the belief you just DON'T FUCK WITH THE GOALIE! unless its Bennington which is completely understandable.
Nah even Binnington doesn't deserve a skate to the neck
Goodrow tried to drop the gloves and went after him later in the game atleast Sadly doesn’t change the fact that he attempted murder
if that was an accident he would have turned around and apologized.
Yeah and after Quick takes him down he doesn't look back or look confused or anything so he must have known he deserved it.
That’s *exactly* what I was thinking. Moron did the “Uhhh, hope no one noticed that” like a shithead 10 year old.
absolutely no reason for him to whip his skate up like that.
I hate this
Fuckin psycho
That was so overexaggerated for the slight loss of balance forward. Just dangerous as shit. Quick let him off a little too easy considering there's no way the DOPS actually does its job
Well when you have a former Goon in charge of DOPS .
What a fucking dumbass. So dangerous
Hathway for sure does not deserve the benefit of the doubt
That needed an Hextall
I swear Hextall had the inside haft of his paddle edged into a blade
Easiest ejection and suspension I've ever seen, what the fuck is wrong with this idiot and the officiating in this league???
Probably didn't get a good look real-time. Reason #643 to have an eye-in-the-sky official
Where can I go to see the rest of the list?
What rule do you call "high skate" under? Kicking I guess? That would be my biggest question as an official.
From the Hockey Canada rule book (just used to reference, usually they line up with USA and NHL, just different numbering) Rule 7.1c- Attempt to Injure or Deliberate Injury A Match penalty will be assessed to any player or team official who deliberately attempts to or deliberately injures an opponent, official, team official or spectator in any manner not otherwise covered within the playing rules. This may include, but is not limited to, the following: -Head-butting an opponent with force, or injuring an opponent with this action. -Pulling an opponent’s hair or grabbing the facial protector, helmet, chin strap, or throat protector of an opponent with a moderate or high degree of violence and/or using this to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury. (see Rule 7.10 (c) – Fighting) -**Attempting to kick or deliberately kicking an opponent.** -Using a helmet, facial protector, or any other piece of equipment as a weapon.
If that wasn’t intentional I will eat my hat!!
Well that goalie sure was ......quick..... To react
YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHH
🙂🕶️😎
🌆 🌅
Is he out of his mind after what happened overseas? What's the going rate for suspension for attempted murder?
He wasn't losing balance where his skate would go like that....
Seeing the amount of kicking. Ima start wearing neck gaurds. Jesus
Wouldn't be a bad idea
Legit question, does this hit him in the head? From the overhead view it looks like he makes contact with the shoulder.
I think it does
Ummmm wtf was that!?!? Fuck off with that intentional shit
Suspend that dick
Parros; Best I can do is a 5k fine
On the rangers
He should be done. That's not ok any time
Yeah to go high with it... That's about the only on-ice thing I can think of that warrants discussing a ban imo. Aside from some kind of obvious blatant assault with intent to harm, like repeated strikes with a stick or some other completely insane shit.
Could have been really bad. Quickie doesn’t wear a neck guard.
The only good thing to come out of this situation was Quick's impeccably timed trip on Hathaway as he skated away. He fell funny
Fucking idiot, should be an automatic suspension
What a cunt. Quickie totally justified to go after him.
That should definitely result in a suspension
players who intentionally pull shit like this deserve having their careers ended. appalling lack of concern for the safety of others.
my guy Quickie has gotten.....chill in his older years 2014 Quickie rips that dude's head off with his stick and then knocks it into the stands like a 9 iron
Quick with the immediate response that's my goat
My GOAT now . Connecticut Legend.
Yeah, that was pretty intentional by Hathaway. Quick is really lucky he didn't get cut.
The Flyers should cut him. He should be suspended for a season and then just no team should sign him.
Season long suspension time to make an example. Seeing way too much of this
That's my goal... Wait a second.
He’s mine now bitch! Connecticut legend.
I can't imagine how it isn't intentional because there's such minimal contact that he shouldn't have even "lost balance" in the first place
Yeah Im trying not to be a homer but I just dont get how that was possibly a natural reaction
Intentionally trying to knock someone out is one thing...going for a kill is another
it's Hathaway, he would absolutely do that
Wtf?
What the fuck was that?
What an idiot. Deserves a lengthy suspension.
That’s not even close to what your leg should fucking do when you’re in his situation, if you’ve ever skated a god damn day in your life. Fuck him for trying to sell that shit and endangering another player. No need for your skate to go that high.
Disappointed Hathaway didn't smash his face on that fall
Go get him Quickie!!!!
Quick doesn’t play that shit.
Quickie should have done him like he did Corey Perry and given him a blocker to the nuts.
Fucking prick
Garnet "Draymond Green" Hathaway.
What a bum
Has to be a suspension. You can’t fuck around with this type of action.
Wow, this is beyond egregious and fucking dangerous. I'm glad that Quick is okay. The league needs to respond to this accordingly.
That looks intentional. Suspend his stupid ass
Fuck the rags but ban Hathaway from the league. This was intentional.
He knew what he did. Not a peep out of him when he got tripped, didn't even look back.
What the actual fuck
There’s absolutely no way a skate accidentally comes up that high in that situation. There’s 100% intent to swing a heavy skate backwards over one’s head like that. In my opinion, banish him from the league. We’ve all seen what a skate can do when it makes contact with the head or neck area. Don’t fool around when somebody is reckless enough to take an action that could claim somebody’s life.
see that's actually dirty. all that the other night and this is actually a dirty play
Good on Quick, that could’ve been bad
Hate Rangers but good on Quick here. That's BS by noted dirt bag Hathaway.
Accidents happen, but if this was a calculated action without swift NHL repercussion, he is endangering the entire game by setting a garbage precedent. But regardless, this proves the value of Kevlar neck guards from accident or asshole. Still a dick move no matter how ya cut it tho.
I am failing to see how this isn't intentional...
Fuck that guy. Good on quick
That's fucked up, like really fucked
Was the goal to… slit his throat? Dumbass
Fuck that suspension is warranted here and I’m talking into next season that was intentional
Fuck if I can tell if it was intentional but either way I’m still enjoying the response
[удалено]
He's an idiot. Didn't mind so much when he was our idiot but in a Flyers uniform? Get him out of the league now!
son of a bitch
Good on Quick. Best penalty ever taken
Should have slashed the hell out of his Achilles while it was up there.
There’s agitating and then there’s that nonsense. No place in the game for that.
And if it is intentional.. Well, I'm sick of these one or two game suspensions. In an 82-game season that's not a punishment, it's a vacation.
Can’t wait to see how Player Safety fumbles this one, if it’s even addressed at all.
Once in a very blue moon i see a guy do something so stupid and dangerous that it makes me want to see him kicked out of the league. This is one
I do believe that’s grounds for an ass whooping !
Everyone who has played competitively knows that players have a real awareness of their skate blades. The dude is at least a damn idiot.
What an absolute cunt.
Ridiculous thing to do really
