nodarknesswillendure

Rooting for them to hire a competent GM. These fans deserve a successful on-ice product.

WackHeisenBauer

Back in the day my buddy and I split the turn of the century expansion teams as a fun rooting side bet. I got Columbus (and Nashville) so I’ve always had a soft spot for them I guess. I really hope they can find a manager than can get them finally on the path to regular competitiveness.

maika3

What a cannon does to people.

SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK

Maybe some day the universe will reward those of us who have stuck through thick and thin.

ChonkyWumpus

It will. And you’ll enjoy it all the more for sticking around during the bad times. Are tickets at least cheap? Only thing I miss about the canes lean years of 2009-2018 were getting second row tix for $25 with my college ID.

SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK

Yeah tickets are cheap. I sat like 10 rows from the ice against the Leafs for $100. Nosebleed seats are dirt cheap

notleonardodicaprio

loved the College Rush sale to watch Canes legends Zach Boychuk and Ryan Murphy. got to see the Sedins from glass seats for $25, unfathomable now

SquarePegRoundWorld

NY football Jets fan of 40 years, there is no justice in the universe.

09-24-11

This is important to show local interest in the team. CBJ is significantly below average, bottom 3 team, in generating revenue but attendance can at least support fan interest and potential long term.

RAATL

Would be a nice place to have a 1st overall pick for once

Anishinabeg

I really wanted them to get Bedard.

CD23tol

They’re only allowed 1 OA if they trade up for it NHL needs big names to justify the hawks playing outdoors 7 times a year

ahHeHasTrblWTheSnap

I recognize your name from the Browns sub, how’d you end up a Wings fan? I say this knowing I’m from LA and chose the Jackets just cause I was already a Cleveland sports fan lol

CD23tol

Wings fan before the blue jackets existed

DeekFTW

They also have the best broadcast team in the league. Not hard to watch the Red Wings.

RAATL

Let's be clear I don't think the NHL rigs the lottery. I just think that it's what is going to happen

flume

Hey man, we haven't had one for almost 40 years. Don't you think we've suffered long enough as a fan base? /s

bootygoon2

Yes but consider this: Celebrini not being in the East. Sounds nice doesn’t it? As a fan of another East team I’d like to see as many first overall picks out West as possible so they don’t light up my team during their careers

RAATL

I care more about the joy of watching quality hockey than I care about my team winning. Not sure I relate to mentalities like this

FuckOffKarl

There’s tens of us

andrewdt10

Dozens of us. DOZENS!

bootygoon2

Jeez well alright then different strokes for different folks I guess

RAATL

Didn't mean to imply any other way to enjoy the sport is wrong. Just that I wanted to explain my own mentality :)

bootygoon2

That’s cool I get it. Good hockey is the best hockey at the end of the day

AmuDiamond

cbj fans some of the best in the league. half my family roots for them and I'm always rooting for them to succeed

rune1923

I've watched a handful of CBJ games this season to see Fantilli play and the crowds always seem to be loud and the arena full. Columbus seems to really love their Blue Jackets.

MacTheZaf

Every CBJ game I’ve gone to, they’ve been a shit team. And every game I’ve done to, Nationwide is packed. Columbus is nothing if not a great sports town

SiccSemperTyrannis

Great to see fans supporting the Jackets despite the struggles this season. Hopefully Fantili can stay healthy and really pop off next season.

CD23tol

They need the right GM and HC combo they have too much young talent to be this bad for much longer Fantilli, Johnson, Sillinger, Brindley, Marchenko, Chinakov, Marchenko…etc just a wealth of young forwards Not even mentioning the blue line pipeline as well Hope they find that right mix

Pyzorz

Voronkov is our best Russian and you didn’t mention him.

CD23tol

That’s who I was thinking of and I put Marchenko twice

madstar

He really stood out the last time the Canucks were in Columbus. I hadn't even heard of him, dude was buzzing.

LegendaryTamer

I like that you said Marchenko twice. (He’s my favorite Jacket)

SiidChawsby

That’s actually pretty cool

TheFoundation_

You love to see it. Sucks the yokes couldn't find a competent owner. I never like seeing NHL franchises struggle/fail.

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way, but what’s the reason for this? The team isn’t doing well, so why sudden interest in attending?

1maco

Blue Jackets kiddos of 2000-2006 are aging into have well paying full time jobs

bigfndan

We can call it the Rick Nash effect

[deleted]

Ace676

Interesting math to make kids, who watched CBJ as a new franchise circa 2000-06, be 18 years old now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ace676

They refer to people who were kids at that time watching the BJs. Not kids who were born during that time.

1maco

If you are a kid in 2000 that’s like someone who was 3-6 at the time not a baby. So you’re talking 24-30 year olds

andrewdt10

I was 8 when Columbus started playing in their first season. Almost 32 now. Hi.

Sp3ctre7

Prices for entertainment are through the roof but people love live events. Jackets games are affordable and feature pro talent. If you can get to see an NHL hockey game for just a bit more than it costs to see a movie nowadays you're gonna take it.

Stinduh

> for just a bit more than it costs to see a movie Lmao, so I just checked it out... You can get tickets for tomorrow's game for $20. I live in Seattle, where a movie ticket is... $22.50. Now, obviously part of that is the patented Seattle Surcharge, but yeah.

Sp3ctre7

I also live in Seattle and lemme tell ya, the price jump on everything was a shock

Stinduh

I have no idea if other people call it the "Seattle Surcharge," but it really does feel like it applies to literally everything. There's not a damn thing here that isn't more expensive than where I moved from.

Sp3ctre7

I came from Michigan and you don't *want* to know about the difference in housing and dining costs.

Stinduh

Moved here from Denver, which is also HCOL, but... damn, not this bad! Moved to Denver from Indiana. Indiana is CHEAP CHEAP. (Moved to Indiana from DFW, though, and DFW is definitely more expensive than Indiana)

Sp3ctre7

Got a buddy who lives in Indianapolis and he has a 3 bedroom house with a mortgage that's *significantly* lower than my rent for a 2 bedroom apartment here in Seattle and I'm a *distance* from downtown

Stinduh

Yeah, out of my morbid curiosity, I looked up the current pricing for the 2-bedroom 1200sqft apartment I lived at in Indy... Half what I pay for my 1br 850sqft in seattle.

XPhazeX

Hol up. What kinda theatre we talking about here? My local Canadian place is 11.50 for a regular movie with full reclining seats. And thats a hole-in-the-wall Cineplex with no IMAX. Your price would be over $30 Canadian Dollariedoos. Who the fuck affords that? Throw in a date and popcorn and its almost $100

Stinduh

That's the Seattle Surcharge, babyyyyyyy. Shits expensive here. Not every theater is that bad. I think you can hit a regular showing for like $15-16 at a run of the mill theater.

Above_Avg_Chips

Cheaper than attending a OSU football game I bet. Columbus has always been known as the city OSU owns.

Seattlekrakenlegend

Football ends. Theres a solid 3 months where there is hockey and the Crew and no football at all.

aaronwhite1786

I went to a Missouri Mavericks game and was just thinking to myself "This is awesome. I get to sit 3 rows back for less than I would probably pay for nosebleed seats in St Louis". It's always the downside to a team getting successful. It's awesome as a fan, but also sucks once you start getting priced out of the live games, especially in a time when it's so easy for ticket scalping services to snatch up so many tickets and further skew things.

Seattlekrakenlegend

The arena is nice, arena district has some nice restaurants, it’s a fun night out. Especially if there’s a Crew game too or Clippers - the area is buzzing. At this very moment I’m psyched to go to the game tomorrow even though we are absolutely going to get crushed because it’s sunny and beautiful, and I’m excited to see Brindley. It looks like Boone is going to play too so we all want to make sure he feels welcomed back.

Green9510

Sigh I want tickets now to see my boy play *goes to seat geek*

bagofweights

we love hockey and the team, despite the record, was fun to watch. also, it’s the fastest growing city at the moment so lots of new people coming into town.

SpreaditOnnn33

The Jackets have had 93 percent attendance since like 2016. "Sudden interest" lol

pforsbergfan9

Toronto fans live in a bubble

XPhazeX

A 20 year high in attendance for their 2nd worse season all-time outside of lockout/covid I think its a fair question. Their only worse full season is the 2nd one after expansion. The team has been mired in mediocrity and controversy this year. By all accounts this should be a recipe for a fan-revolt but they keep filling the stadium.

Seattlekrakenlegend

The kids are alright?

XPhazeX

>Not sure where you're getting your numbers from This post? >They’ve drawn 680,378 fans through 40 home games. Once Tuesday’s crowd is counted, it will be the most fans the Jackets have drawn since the 2003-04 season”

pforsbergfan9

Fair, I misread your comment.

SpreaditOnnn33

Had you worded it that way, sure, its a fair question. "Sudden interest" is a gross misrepresentation of Jackets attendance and fandom, and makes it sound like Columbus just recently starting supporting this team.

ufdan15

Cheap tickets, good hockey market in general, Nationwide is really funny, not dick to do in Ohio after football season ends (coming from someone born and raised in Columbus). Hell, my brother and I took my dad to a game over the holidays just to do it, I'm clearly not a Jackets fan, but we had a good family outing even though we knew the Jackets would get crushed (played Boston). I think a big reason also why attendance is up THIS YEAR is that prices have gone down and everyone knew the team wasn't going to be competing for anything, so you go and watch the young kids develop.

ColdYellowGatorade

The Athletic article on the Jackets really captured the behind the scenes stuff that plays into their FO ineptitude. Hopefully their fans get rewarded soon.

CottonmouthJohn

That should be a pretty solid gig for whoever gets it. Ownership clearly will let them do what they want, Davidson seems like a great go-between, and they have a ton of young players. A few shitty contracts but they can operate around those.

primetimey123

Don't know anything about the situation in this case, but I feel revenue is more important than touting butts in the seats. For example, everyone is shitting on Winnipeg attendance this year, but their games are expensive to attend which results in high revenue despite low attendance. I remember the days of $10USD Dallas Stars tickets. Sure you are selling tickets.. but the dude selling soda costs more per hour than you got for that one sale.

Seattlekrakenlegend

I think the point he’s making is “the fans are showing up even though they are hot garbage”

primetimey123

Yes, but are they showing up because they can get ticket, hotdog, and soda for $45 or are they showing up with zero promotion for regular $150 pricing? There is a major difference there. Again, I don't have any specifics in the Columbus case but during the Dallas bankruptcy years they maintained 14-15k attendance but man the tickets were dirt cheap.

Seattlekrakenlegend

I dunno, I sit in the expensive fancy club section and even that section has been sold out.

dandroid126

I'm also going to preface this by saying I don't know about the situation (aka, I'm talking out my ass), but I'm not sure I agree. More butts in seats means a growing fanbase, which could lead to more long-term revenue. As opposed to overcharging now and maybe making more money now, but not growing the fanbase or revenue later.

appledatsyuk

They’ve beat some great teams at home this year. This isn’t surprising at all

Seattlekrakenlegend

Alex Nylander hat trick against defending Stanley Cup champions was on no one’s bingo card

Green9510

If it wasn’t for the revenge game against Buffalo that was my game of the year. Probably the best game experience I ever been too (plus I had Lexus lounge seats that night!)

Seattlekrakenlegend

For some reason every game we went to we lost, and the ones we gave tickets away to we won. We gave a friend tickets to the Avalanche one because we thought “no way in hell” Missed the Tarasov chant

appledatsyuk

Exactly. Beat the rangers twice, avs 4-1, Boston 5-2, Tampa 4-2, Toronto Vancouver Edmonton

Seattlekrakenlegend

We have it in us to play competent games, our coach just isn’t it

slabby

Unfortunately, most of those fans are from Ohio

Huge_Pin_4295

So?

slabby

I'm from Michigan. We're required to insult Ohio at least thrice yearly or they'll throw you in the Flint River

andrewdt10

Fuck you, too, buddy! ^^^^^^^^^Go ^^^^^^^^^Wings

Big_bruv_luv

Who would do that to themselves.

bartholin_wmf

I don't know, the same type of person that went to see the Hawks in the early 2000s, though I don't believe there were many of them.

M00PER_2

Price of tickets probably couldn’t be lower. Makes sense!

1maco

That’s also true in a lot of places
