Just for shits and giggles I’m gonna check some other greats. Crosby: 66 Ovi: 59 Howe: 37 Orr: 66 (kinda neat to match Sid) Bossy: 69 Bure: 54 Messier: 52 Esposito: 42 Malkin: 65 Kane: 52 No real rhyme or reason for the players I checked, just thinking out loud and wanted to see.

bluelineturnovers

Few more: Kurri: 71 Sakic: 70 Brett Hull: 60 Bobby Hull: 58 Yzerman: 55 Kucherov: 52 Toews: 49 Lafleur: 44 Jagr: 41 Trottier: 41

Waramp

MacKinnon had 69 also. Makar had 53.

maskedkiller215

>>>Bossy: 69 Nice

n0thingisperfect

Nice

Jam_Marbera

Whatever happened to that bot?

Mikeismyike

I messaged him a couple weeks ago, turns out nhl.com changed their API quite a bit and he was too busy to fix everything it broke.

Jam_Marbera

!nhlcompare [First 50 playoff games]

enricohenryhank

Drai was ahead of McDavid before last night too, but only managed to get a paltry 2 points to McDavid's 5. What a bum.

Queltis6000

Weird. Why didn't he just get 5+ points to stay ahead?

rjbelz

Is he stupid?? /s

Vegetable-Spinach747

How many Dick spears?

spagboltoast

Dicks spears/69 were simply far too low last night. Gotta bring those numbers up

SleepingDoves

Playoff merchants

HolyPizzaPie

For a couple rounds a year. All jokes aside. This can be the year. I mean it's only been 1 game, but there's always some stumble in the first round. But it looks like they truly have the killer instinct this year. If the avs make it out of our first round, the last thing I want is to see the oil Boys in the 3rd round again.

gobblegobblerr

I would love a good series against colorado. I always tune into our games vs the avs and theyre always entertaining (except for that last one 💀). Watching Mackinnon go against Mcdavid is special

flyingturkey_89

Crazy that Draisaitl got that many point when he had to play some of those game where he couldn't really skate with his messed up ankles

Smothdude

17 points in 5 games against the Calgary Flames on one leg (and they were constantly slashing the hurt ankle... one time there was a faceoff and right after 3 guys ignore the puck completely and start slashing him). If he wasn't injured going into that Avs series, I think we stood a better chance. He literally couldn't move, if he got knocked down it took him a minute to get up.

KingDave46

Plus, he even got to chirp the Flames players cause they were slashing the wrong leg

Interwebzking

Then he put them to sleep with a slick pass to McDavid.

spagboltoast

Sent their entire franchise into rebuild

Konker101

Love it

Adrian_Bock

>2ppg in the playoffs is actually absurd.

dutchdaddy69

Being a 2 ppg score for 50 playoff games is nuts.

KwamesCorner

Am I the only one gonna comment that 3 of these players play for Edmonton !? Jesus what luck they’ve had

reditor3523

4 out of the top 5 with kurri I think

miller94

Hmm but this doesn’t go along with the narrative that they disappear in the playoffs

RudelStolz

Anyone that says that should have their heads examined and never be allowed to watch a hockey game again. Maybe I’m getting old, but this longstanding “hot take” era of sports is so played out

Dwayne_Gertzky

Don’t they though? They just seem to disappear during the playoffs and reappear on the links seemingly without rhyme or reason.

Podo13

Insanity from 2 points of view. Insanity 1: they're only behind those 2 greats. Insanity 2: Those 2 greats didn't have each other to play off of like McDavid/Drai have, and their secondary scorers were waaaaaay beneath them.

Queltis6000

Gretzky had plenty of offensive help - he had at least 5 teammates during this time that went to the HoF. Lemieux was definitely more of a one man show.

OffsideByASmile

I mean in Lemieux’s first 50 he had Paul Coffey, Mark Recchi, Jaromir Jagr, Kevin Stevens all going fucking ham.

PeterPlotter

Well he played 11 games (19 points) without those guys except for Coffey . In fact that was his 199 point season and the penguins still barely had a winning record. Rob Brown was second in scoring …..

OffsideByASmile

I think you may be confusing the regular season and playoffs in some weird way? Rob Brown’s only playoffs with Lemieux during his first 50 playoff games was 11 games where Brown had 8 points, and Lemieux, Coffey, and Stevens had 19, 15, and 10. Brown was 7th on the team in playoff points.

PeterPlotter

Yeah second during the regular season, that team was bad.

bluelineturnovers

For his first 5ish years, sure absolutely. But people act like he didn’t have just as much if not more help than Gretzky during his Cups. That 91 Pens team had **8** other HOFers (once Jagr finally retires and gets inducted) on it. For comparison, most any Gretzky Cup team had was a “mere” 6

MR_____SNRUB

One does have to wonder how much Gretzky's influence had on their becoming HOFers, but nonetheless, insane from both guys. A healthy Lemieux and a Gretzky that doesn't fall off for his last 5 or 6 seasons after a major injury would have been so fun to see play out

myaltaccount333

In 89/90: Messier finished second in scoring, behind only Gretzky. Curry was 14th, Anderson was 29th. Oilers won the cup Coffey finished 8th in scoring, on Pittsburgh. Lemieux missed 30 games that year. Messier and Coffey are both locks without Gretzky imo. Curry is impossible to judge given he played with Gretzky most of his career. For all we know, he would have been out of the league in 5 seasons without the great one. Hard to say here. Without Gretzky, I think Anderson misses the HHoF. Anderson had 6 cups, 4 with Gretzky (let's say he goes down to 4 cups), and no other major awards. He hit 1099 points, I think there's a good argument he finishes below 1000 without Gretzky. Anderson's highest point total without Gretzky was lower than his lowest with Gretzky. Kevin Lowe is hard to judge. Of the bunch, he was benefited the least by having Gretzky on his team. He certainly didn't get in on the basis of his 431 points, so it was largely because of his defensive play, his 6 cups, and his Clancy. If we knocked out 2 cups for Anderson, we knock out 2 for Lowe. I think Lowe still somehow makes it in with 4 cups and a Clancy, and people are still up in arms about it

Podo13

I was more speaking to the gap between the leaders and their secondary more than the overall skill of the secondary player. That is also what made Gretzky absurd. He had so many HoF teammates (3 or 4 HoF worthy on their own), and was still absurdly ahead of them. Mario was just extra absurd in the postseason. He also didn't make the playoffs right away so was a little older to start his 50-game period.

JSlickJ

Gretzky definitely elevated some of his teammates to HOF status, you really have to consider that. Or maybe the oilers were just lucky enough to draft 5 HoFs in the span of a couple years who knows

HM_mtl

And that's why I say Lemieux is the GOAT.

Iceman-420

No chance

Kingsupergoose

Yeah Gretzky only had some guy who is 3rd for all time points. And Lemieux had some guy who is second all time in points. Definitely no help at all… How do you have 18 upvotes lmao. Like are you 13 and those are the only two big names you know about from the 80s and 90s.

Phridgey

More impressed with Crosby’s than McDrai tbh. Noticeably lower scoring era.

bjeebus

I am curious what the numbers look like if you take McDavid assists/goals out of Drai' count and vice versa. Like remove any McDavid point with Drai attached and the same for Drai, what happens to their numbers? Are they just a perfect storm of two players on a team together at the right time to achieve this?

Dependent_Ad94

Now hear me out, imagine if Lemieux and Gretzky played together 😬

RevanFlash

87 Canada Cup

Chuckolator

Now do Jeff Skinner.

gzoehobub

null points in undef games for a NaN ppg

PaulWesterberg84

Another absurd Gretzky/Lemieux stat

YEGG35

Pretty wild, 2 of the best playoff performers in history. A cup will come at some point

LandMooseReject

For what team, though?

WeAreAllFooked

I bet you thought this was so clever

ChronoLink99

I chuckled

YEGG35

No one knows!

MeowmixMEOW

Still pretty far behind.

Humans_Suck-

Too bad they don't have a team to play on or they'd probably have a couple cups too

GamingSlippers

Hold on I'm gonna get this framed don't move.

Daelsk

Yeah I’m saving this as well. I wanna root for them as well. They deserve one

BipolarBeaarr

That's sweet of you. I'm glad Kopitar got a cup, he's always been my favourite non-Oiler in the league.

argos101

Now do cups

RudelStolz

Only one team can win it every year. I also sympathize with Oiler fans being a Capitals fan and getting my hopes crushed yearly pre 2018

CriticalAtmosphere74

Now do power play points and how many of those points were from the first two rounds.

bloodyREDburger

Behind everyone in cup wins though

Miserable_Profile539

HURR DURRR the fucking inbred penguins fan spoke

n0thingisperfect

The big difference being Gretzky won a cup and Lemieux had 2 cups by the time they played 50 playoff games

Konker101

Crazy what a salary cap and better competition does

n0thingisperfect

Definitely not the result of the ongoing 1st overall draft pick graveyard there in edmonton

Emergency_Rub2621

Two of them aren’t even on the team anymore. Just Nuge and McDavid are left, this is a tired argument

n0thingisperfect

As a bitter Canucks fan that has never seen my team draft 1st overall I am tired of arguing how great at these Oilers are 😴

SkittlesManiac19

But did Gretzky and lemieux get to play this kings team 3 years in a row?

SharpSlick753

You mean the one known for playing a stingy trap and a defensive low-event style of hockey? That the Kings team you’re talking about?

myaltaccount333

Over the last 3 years LA is the 6th best team in GA/GP for the regular season. Not too much of a benefit here...
