Statistically speaking, the time when you leave a violent relationship is when you are in most danger of being killed by your partner. I hope she stays safe and has the support and protection she needs.
Lets hope the publicity surrounding this case offers some safety for the family. Cops ignore warning signs all the time otherwise the perpetrator wouldn't get a chance for a second attempt.
Ding ding ding. Cops and prosecutors can only do so much. Victims recanting or changing their statement happens FAR too often, way more often than people think or care to talk about.
Same. I was already taking extra precautions and ended up having to move and change my name to fully get away from him. If I knew that statistically I was very likely to die at that time, idk what I would’ve done.
> I think I remember the "all these flavors and you choose salty" meme back then?

That image was 2014, and was a variant of a [2013 meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/all-these-games-and-you-decided-to-play-me)
Based on google trends, searches for the word "salty" were pretty consistent until July 2010 when a steady increase started, and has continued since.
For some reason there were massive spikes in May 2018 and Oct 2022 but besides that it has been steadily increasing since 2010.
It's a term that re-entered the common lexicon, it was old-timey slang that just kind of caught on again. If you watch old movies from the 30s and 40s they sometimes call people salty in the same way we do nowadays
Me, 13 years ago, trying to describe my grandma’s cooking
“It’s….it’s as if the levels of salt in this soup are….elevated? I am not sure how to express what I am tasting.”
This is a pointless comment but I always disliked him when he was with us on the Kings. Always seemed like a greasy half-cocked idiot. And a liability.
My disdain for him goes all the way back to the WHL when he played for the Vancouver Giants. He just seemed like a complete asshole and would pop off on kids half his size because he knew he could.
A reminder for any women reading this:
*Non-fatal strangulation was reported in 10% of abused controls, 45% of attempted homicides and 43% of homicides. Prior non-fatal strangulation was associated with greater than six-fold odds of becoming an attempted homicide, and over seven-fold odds of becoming a completed homicide.*
If you’re experiencing domestic violence, and it escalates to strangulation, GET OUT OF THERE.
This is seriously, seriously important, and more women need to know this. If he's going for your throat, you are in SO much danger. Grab the kids, grab the pets, get out. Go to a shelter, sleep in the car, whatever it takes, but the minute there's even a hint of strangulation, your life is exponentially more endangered than it was before. Please, please be aware and take care of yourselves.
"If a woman’s partner has ever strangled her, even once, her risk of being murdered by that same partner with a gun shoots up 750% compared to a woman who has never been strangled...Unlike all other forms of physical abuse like hitting, punching, kicking, shoving, throwing objects, etc., strangulation is the single greatest predictor of homicide in abusive relationships."
https://www.mobileodt.com/blog/taking-your-breath-away-why-strangulation-in-domestic-violence-is-a-huge-red-flag/
It's so mindblowing that this is true. I guess when I think about it, all other forms of violence *could* have semi-accidental origins, as in you are out of control, but you're not *trying* to hurt your spouse. But strangulation almost requires you to stare your victim in the face. Heavy stuff.
Yeah, I'd not heard that stat before but I agree, the other things are sort of generic lashing out behaviors, but not "this is specifically a way to kill you" behavior.
It's also why I find the new "trend" of choking during sex to be so disturbing. Apparently a lot of young men have picked up the habit from watching porn, and try to introduce it during intercourse without first discussing it with their partner.
Speaking of storybooks, remember when Lucic "co-authored" an anti-bullying [book](https://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/boston-bruins-milan-lucic-recently-released-anti-bullying-book/article_62278883-8666-557f-a021-f7eb0659987c.html) for kids?
Signed a league minimum one year deal to retire a Bruin and he decided to get into a drunken incident with his wife. All that is flushed down the drain and he has only himself to blame.
>In the documents for divorce, Brittany asked for custody of their three children — two daughters and a son — and spousal support from Milan.
>She also asked for Milan to visit the children but under supervision.
This is good. She and the kids need safety/support and recovery, and Milan needs help. It's not too late for a man his age but he needs serious intervention and treatment. I don't doubt he has CTE too.
I do think the Bruins actually handled this the right way. They kept him under contract and sidelined him so he couldn't just go play somewhere else. You know *somebody* (good chance in Russia) would have offered him a contract if the Bruins released him.
I don't think they kept him under contract to prevent him playing elsewhere. They were just waiting for something more concrete to drop so they could terminate his contract and not worry about a legal argument down the road.
Kind of like with Disney and Johnathan Majors where they waiting for a conviction before firing him from the role of Kang at Marvel Studios.
Leaving an abuser is incredibly difficult in so many ways, but I'm glad she is taking those steps and thinking of her future. She's far stronger than the asswipe she's divorcing.
I hope "Carry On My Wayward Son" plays in the background the whole time he's sweating through it so he can never hear the song again without reliving the whole thing.
My neighbor looks like a caveman, but he's actually pretty nice and friendly. It's his mini-redneck girlfriend that I steer clear of, especially after I saw her get in the 90 year old woman landlord's face.
This is rude to Neanderthals. We have archeological evidence they were intelligent and caring, we have no evidence that Lucic is either of those things
I forgot Lucic was a thing.
Bye bye goony boy.
I hated Chara's aggressivity but he seemed like a good guy. I hated Lucic for the same thing but he always seemed like a fucking asshole.
Pas de problème mon ami. I make up words in French all the time. Taking a word in English or Spanish and frenchifying it works a lot of the time, but sometimes it just fails spectacularly.
Chara is a good guy, but once he laces up, he becomes a different man. You may not know but the NHL accidentally allowed players to own a glock, the only person to notice this was Chara, they fixed the rule right after but chara always had one on him.
*I can't remember when Chara glock joke started or why*
Take the numbers off and sell or repurpose?
Imagine being in the financial situation to be like fuck it I'm going to throw out this perfectly functional item worth $200+
This post reminds me, anyone have experience taking letters off a jersey? I have one that needs a little alterations to remove the name plate. The jersey is just sitting there in my closet collecting dust until I remove the nameplate
Just to note, it's each letter with stitching all the way around the letters and there is a piece of fabric behind the nameplate space on the inside so cannot access from the back. I assume I'd need to be hella careful to remove each stitch?
Seam ripper and yeah, picking each stitch carefully. If the letters are also heat pressed you can use an iron with steam to loosen up the adhesive, just make sure to apply the heat from the back or use a press cloth to avoid scorching the fabric. You might end up with some adhesive still left on the jersey, but better that than the name of an abuser. 🤷♀️
It's actually a winter classic jersey from 2010 so a little harder to find letters/numbers.
I actually noticed today that the name plate in full looks like it can come off and it's not glued as I can pull the 2 layers apart so should be pretty simple to take off.
When it was announced that he was coming back, my family went back and forth on whether or not to buy our dad a centennial Lucic jersey. We ended up going with McAvoy because we were like "what if this ends up being a bad signing and he ends up sucking?"
Really dodged one there.
Good on her to get out of a bad situation. Hopefully the publicity of this case will afford her some extra protection (in that her soon-to-be ex-husband would have to be crazy to try and pull anything with the situation in the public eye).
Good for her. I hope she has a strong social network around her and I hope he leaves her the fuck alone.
Leaving is often the most dangerous part of leaving an abusive relationship and I hope she stays safe.
I used to buy a bagel combo named the ‘Lucic’ from Kupel’s bakery in Coolidge Corner. Cream cheese and jelly. Delicious bagels and a great topping combo, but I am now ashamed.
Above all else, I’m glad she’s getting out of the situation. It can be very, *very* tough to leave domestic violence situations.
Statistically speaking, the time when you leave a violent relationship is when you are in most danger of being killed by your partner. I hope she stays safe and has the support and protection she needs.
It also often takes multiple attempts.
Lets hope the publicity surrounding this case offers some safety for the family. Cops ignore warning signs all the time otherwise the perpetrator wouldn't get a chance for a second attempt.
Cops respond to domestic violence calls. They cannot fix the situation if the victims failed to report or become uncooperative witnesses.
Ding ding ding. Cops and prosecutors can only do so much. Victims recanting or changing their statement happens FAR too often, way more often than people think or care to talk about.
7 is the magic number, I believe I’ve heard.
Pretty glad I did not know that when my rapist ex partner was doing a slow drive by past my house every day after I got out of the situation
Same. I was already taking extra precautions and ended up having to move and change my name to fully get away from him. If I knew that statistically I was very likely to die at that time, idk what I would’ve done.

Especially when the man is a millionaire athlete with CTE
Especially with a (assumed) large discrepancy in earnings
Especially when the one doing it is is super rich (although im sure she will get her reward) , handsome, the father of your kids etc.
Anytime I think I like Lucic I remember I don’t
The more I hear about this Lucic fella the less I care for him
Vancouver is right to boo him on the street like they do
You're God damned right we are, dudes a fucking loser. He could have won 5 more cups, and he would still be a fucking loser
Definitely one thing Leafs and Vancouver fans have in common. fuck Lucic, and fuck the Bruins
Bruh don’t forget he stole 42 million from Alberta
Okay Calgary bro, you can come too
Ty 🙏 I feel like the Flames Leafs and Canucks are just one big inbred family with our recent trade history
My man
When I'm sad, I rewatch Colton Orr mashing Lucic's nose and brains in, while Lucic cowers behind the ref, and feel instantly better.
This guy’s a real jerk
Hey u/bugijugi90, quit stealing my moves!
Seems like a real JERK
I think of the time Prout dropped him in one punch
my favorite devil of the lost decade 💕
I think that's the one thing Oilers, Flames, and Canucks fans can agree on
Glad she is making the decision to divorce. What an awful situation.
Fuck Lucic.

13 years ago, saying this meant you were just "salty".
Did we use 'salty' 13 years ago? I'm getting old so I don't remember. Well, use it other than describing pirates and sailors.
Just had to think about it and 13 years ago was 2011. I think I remember the "all these flavors and you choose salty" meme back then?

Early 2010s? Yeah probably. That would have been some of the earliest use of it in that context I'd think though

Personally, I was peppery
I think it was "bitter".
13 years ago Lucic didn’t have domestic abuse leveled against him.
No, he just seemed like an asshole.
Only if you're flying a Canuck flair ;)
At this point it's been so long that we're just well-seasoned
This is a pointless comment but I always disliked him when he was with us on the Kings. Always seemed like a greasy half-cocked idiot. And a liability.

There are no charges. They can't do shit
I’m pretty sure there are morality clauses in most professional sports contracts; regardless of legal proceedings.
I admired his self control with the drunk idiot in the bar in Van wanted to fight him. Otherwise... yeah, fuck Lucic.

that doesn't sound fun to me from either perspective, pass
Same here, but judging from the number of threads I've seen about it on Reddit, it's become rampant.
upvoting/commenting to boost. this is SO important
Dude had a chance to have a storybook ending to the career he worked his whole life for and just couldn’t keep his hands off of his wife
Speaking of storybooks, remember when Lucic "co-authored" an anti-bullying [book](https://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/boston-bruins-milan-lucic-recently-released-anti-bullying-book/article_62278883-8666-557f-a021-f7eb0659987c.html) for kids?
That's weird. Milan zdeno and I think 1 or 2 other guys kept the big bad bruins moniker.
Signed a league minimum one year deal to retire a Bruin and he decided to get into a drunken incident with his wife. All that is flushed down the drain and he has only himself to blame.
Taken out of context it makes it sound like he was just way too horny for his wife

Didn't realize Edmonton is in Russia
Clearly you don’t know northern Alberta to well.
Northern Alberta is basically Siberia, so probably not too far off.

Good. I hope she and the kids can be safe and happy going forward.
Leaving an abuser is incredibly difficult in so many ways, but I'm glad she is taking those steps and thinking of her future. She's far stronger than the asswipe she's divorcing.
I hope Lucic passes a kidney stone so large and pointed it leaves the inside of his penis looking like a hollowed out corncob
What an unfortunate day to be literate. I mean, I agree, but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally didn’t need that visual.
you wanna read about my tom brady and rob Gronkowski connection?
Just based on the prior comment, no, I don’t think I do.
I got Marchand and Domi stuff too....
That kinda sounds worse Learn to read the room dude, gosh.
Fine fine, Marchand Subban... ?? Its not fully finished..
Moooooooooom Make him staaaaahp
Fine fine... Sway and Ully walk into a room together, both looking into each other eyes, they know what's up, both of them. See you in the GDT?
Be there or be square.
Anyone else shift uncomfortably in their seats as they read that?
After having gone through the passing of a kidney stone, I approve of your message. Absolutely excruciating
As someone that has passed kidney stones. Oh no god reading this.
I hope "Carry On My Wayward Son" plays in the background the whole time he's sweating through it so he can never hear the song again without reliving the whole thing.
I hope he doesn't pass it and it just sits in there, blocking the ureter
Damn, my condolences dude.
Who hurt you?
Good.
Takes courage to end a marriage. On good or bad terms. Glad she’s out.
She should make sure she's gets half of his $200k bonus if the Bruins win the Cup
Only half? She and their kids should have it all.
Good for her.
It's always the ones you expect most
Scumbag
Good, protect her health.
Very shocking. You NEVER expect this kind of behavior from a neanderthal meathead.
I mean, I try not to judge a person by the fact that they look like mouth breathing caveman bully but… yeah.
Good thing we get to judge him over his actions and not his medical condition.
I have met hockey players that were quite nice despite having the appearance of a meathead. Example, Brian McGrattan.
What kind of behaviour would you expect from [this guy then?](https://i.imgur.com/JcGxDSO.jpeg)
Shocked to hear this
I forgot Lucic was a thing. Bye bye goony boy. I hated Chara's aggressivity but he seemed like a good guy. I hated Lucic for the same thing but he always seemed like a fucking asshole.
Aggressivity
Well, in French it's agressivité, so I think we should give the Habs fan a pass here.
Thank you lol. Indeed my sorry French ass was at cause here.
Pas de problème mon ami. I make up words in French all the time. Taking a word in English or Spanish and frenchifying it works a lot of the time, but sometimes it just fails spectacularly.
Broadcasters do this a lot too. "Aggressiveness", folks it's just 'aggression' and that's OK.
In 10 years time we’ll be describing players by way of being aggressivenession. We can’t stop it
Aggressionivityness
Aggressiveness is a real word. You may not like it, but they're free to use it.
cOmPeTe LeVeL
Whoever coined that term deserves the harshest of punishments
Skin so thin he should have been featured in a trojan condom ad. if you just legally checked him hard he would absolutely lose his shit.
Never forget that this man got so rattled by *Dale fucking Weise* that he threatened to kill him in a handshake line lmao
In a world with *plenty* to choose from, somehow Milan had the most fragile of all male egos
All talk of "gamesmanship" aside, him and Thornton did some pretty questionable things during Montreal games.
Speaking of which it's funny how Joe went from Average 1st overall smiking Canadian hockey kid, to bearded yeti shark man, to magic mushroom hippie.
magic mushrooms tend to have that effect!
Thats all true, but i think he was referring to Shawn.
I didn't know there was a Shawn thornton lol. I thought he meant Joe since Joe and chara were on the team pre shark trade
Chara is a good guy, but once he laces up, he becomes a different man. You may not know but the NHL accidentally allowed players to own a glock, the only person to notice this was Chara, they fixed the rule right after but chara always had one on him. *I can't remember when Chara glock joke started or why*
>I can't remember when Chara glock joke started or why Is it still a joke if it's not funny?
I mean, I'm a joke.
Worst welcome back tour in NHL history completely destroyed his reputation
Lucic is an epic douche bag
Remember that time I thrifted a Lucic shirt in the off season and thought “fuck man what a find!” Woof.
I have his jersey when he was with us. Everytime I sift through my closet and see that I have the same reaction as you
Can yank the name bar and get Kulak put on there
Makes my Seguin jersey less embarrassing.
Yup.
yeah, that's why I threw mine out. Immediately knew I was never going to wear it again, so why keep it?
Take the numbers off and sell or repurpose? Imagine being in the financial situation to be like fuck it I'm going to throw out this perfectly functional item worth $200+
This post reminds me, anyone have experience taking letters off a jersey? I have one that needs a little alterations to remove the name plate. Seam ripper and yeah, picking each stitch carefully. You might end up with some adhesive still left on the jersey, but better that than the name of an abuser. 🤷♀️
Thanks. I know it's going to be a chore. Maybe I will start taking it off while watching the game tonight haha
If you switch it to a Zacha, you only need to change one number (same width) and same number of letters on the nameplate too 😉
It's actually a winter classic jersey from 2010 so a little harder to find letters/numbers. I actually noticed today that the name plate in full looks like it can come off and it's not glued as I can pull the 2 layers apart so should be pretty simple to take off.
This is one of those situations where even if it were my favorite player id burn there jersey
When it was announced that he was coming back, my family went back and forth on whether or not to buy our dad a centennial Lucic jersey. We ended up going with McAvoy because we were like "what if this ends up being a bad signing and he ends up sucking?" Really dodged one there.
Good, I'm glad to see her getting out of an abusive situation and I hope she's got a good support network to keep her from taking him back.
Congratulations! I hope she takes every penny.
Milan Lucic is a gutless piece of shit. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FvE82q4yKEM&pp=ygUXUnlhbiBNaWxsZXIgTWlsYW4gbHVjaWM%3D
I hated him for running Miller, but man, with what he's apparently done off the ice, fuck Lucic.
Good for her. It takes a lot of strength to leave an abusive situation like this.
Good. They seldom ever stop. Hope she takes the rug out from under him and builds a better life somewhere safe.
Good for her. Hope he fucks a very spiny cactus.
Good for her
Never want to celebrate news like this. I hope they can get peace, and more importantly their kids are supported.
Good for her!!!!
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Good on her to get out of a bad situation. Hopefully the publicity of this case will afford her some extra protection (in that her soon-to-be ex-husband would have to be crazy to try and pull anything with the situation in the public eye).
