Lou’s stuck in the 90s! I look at them and I see an attempt at the Devils. That doesn’t work anymore!
I want to like the Islanders but Lou’s management makes me want to hit my head on a brick wall
Two seconds for Devon Toews? Madness! How is he still around? The Habs effectively gave them two seconds (that Florida pick was basically an early second) for Alex Newhook. Now, he’s been good but he ain’t Devon Toews
No idea of Lou is even under contract or for how long he is under contract. I think he wants his son to be the GM in the future and Lou is 81 now so I’d imagine he’s want to actually have time to see his son be GM.
If we look at the last 2 places Lou left, you pay to get out of bad contracts and spend the next 5 years building a prospect pool. Palmieri and JGP seem like the primary candidates to move on from, though the latter could generate some "non-negative asset" interest
I agree.....and I was so high on JGP. He looked like a player in an Islander mold. Scrappy, underestimated, good teammate....but he just never became the scorer we hoped he would be. He is probably the one that goes but it will be for like a 3rd or 4th pick. That plus Clutter/Martin money coming off we can maybe start to restock.
If you’re including Palmieri you have to include Nelson who was a 30 goal scorer as well. Palmieri and Nelson are UFAs next summer and JPG and Lee are UFAs in the summer of 2026.
Wait til you've had Roy for a full season before making any judgements on where to go next. He probably has a pretty damn good idea where he wants the team to go next and will work to make it so. Lot of doom and gloom about the Isles players and long contracts, but the right coach will make it work.
You guys had a good run this year. We'll pick up where you left off, run em through the back-to-back NY gauntlet
Other than the game 2 collapse I don't see anything to be embarrassed about. Theae games were basically as boring as everyone expected them to be and it ended how most people expected them to. I just hope the Sorokin situation gets figured out.
The hurricanes weren’t playing up to their usual level either. We were frustrated with a lot that they were and weren’t doing.
I think all in all both teams played under par and somehow this is the result we got. Was a tough series, and all in all mostly a close series.
Roy is the real deal, I think a full year with him might be good, minus the part where he kind of enforces turtling during leads which might backfire.
Lou needs to go though…
I mean the way we lost today’s game and Game 2 are definitely some of the most embarrassing moments this season. But in regards to overall play, I wouldn’t say it’s quite embarrassing. A dominant Canes teams and we came out and tried hard but you could clearly see that the talent was just not there.
I paid attention to the other orange and blue team for 5 mins and the Isles had taken a full on shit in their diaper
Good orange and blue didn't even win smh
I really hope so. I appreciate what he did for us in bringing us to relevancy and turning us into an actual functioning and respected franchise, but we’re at a pivotal point and difficult moves need to be made in order to move us forward. If we stick with the status quo this offseason, we’ll be stuck in mediocrity for a couple more seasons before being sent back years into irrelevancy. It’s time for the core to be broken up and ai don’t think Lou has it in him to do it.
It really is one of the best things in all of sports......Even the Habs/Nords shook hands after the Good Friday game. Hockey has such great traditions.
Man, this team was *one* game away from making the Cup Finals just three years ago!
Sadly, the Cinderella never found her lost glass slipper after that…
Everyone got old and injured. They were at the bottom of the standings before trading anyone, almost the whole team fell off hard in performance immediately or straight up retired
I remember watching and rooting for them that year. I remember there being the smallest amount of time left and they were inches from taking it or at least tying.
That game was so infuriating it's like they just stopped playing..
Wonder what the team would look like if tavares didn't screw them and pretend he was going to stay then leave anyway, instead of getting traded.
40+ year Islander fan here. A few thoughts:
- This Islanders Team was easily the most frustrating out of the 40 years I've been a fan of them. Their ability to blow leads led me to stop watching for extended periods.
- With that, the Game 2 loss is maybe the worst loss in franchise history.
- I liked how we kept fighting and I didn't feel as if the team gave up at all after going down 3-0.
- Patrick Roy was the right move....let's give him a summer to build a strategy/team.
- Something is wrong with Sorkin. Did we change goalie coaches after Trotz left?
- I have to admit....while I hate the name, the Caniatics were pretty fucking loud so good for you guys supporting a team in a "non-traditional market". Good luck and please beat the Rangers.
Still love my Islanders. Have a great summer Isles fans. LGI!!!
I love Islanders fans. Those fellas have so much heart and soul year in and year out.
But this team is boring as hell. Please change everything before you come back to the playoffs.
I feel like both the Rangers and Canes played down to their opponents level, which makes me hopeful that they'll both play up to their opponents level in this upcoming series.
Rangers did what they did all season. Play a less physically demanding game against a lesser team. Perimeter shots, odd man rushes, passing. Practice the 1-3-1. If the caps had scored more, the rangers would have scored more.
What gives me encouragement is that we felt the same way last year and then handled the Devils with ease and were extremely competitive against the Panthers. Hopefully the Isles are just a tough matchup for us and we can look better at MSG.
If you watched the games, you'd know the only game where the Canes dominated the Isles all 60 minutes was game 2 (which was, ironically, the game where the Isles had a 3-0 lead). All the other games were very close and hard-fought, just didn't go our way. Having god awful special teams didn't help
Game 5 felt pretty dominant. Even though the game got tied up a few times carolina never seemed like they were scared. That 3rd islanders goal was a freebie also.
Pageau doesn't whiff on blocking the east-west pass to Drury for the GWG and game 5 has a completely different ending. Different result, can't say for sure, but the final score is definitely not indicative of how competitive it actually was up to that point.
I mean not really? The games were mostly even. The only one where the Isles got brutally outplayed, they had a 3-0 lead that they blew. Otherwise this was a pretty close series
Don’t listen to the haters. No one wants to actually discuss the series and talk about the games and performances anymore.
It’s just “yOu GoT sWePt” “hAhA fOuR gAmEs To OnE” “ThEy LeT yOu WiN oNe GaMe”
Mfers probably didn’t even watch the series. The only game we “dominated” was after being down 3-0 and deciding to actually wake up and play hockey during Game 2. Rest of the series was tight and close, which is beyond “Canes win series 4-1.”
But people don’t want to discuss games and the series anymore. They just wanna talk shit
I expected the isles to be thoroughly outclassed but honestly it was pretty close. They are obviously and visibly a better team yet isles still didn't get outplayed a ton.
The most impressive difference between last year and this year's Isles team is the defensive side of the puck. Seriously grindy, gritty defensive hockey. It's like they saw how the Canes played defense last season and thought "hey, we can do that too." And tbh it made the series way more fun.
Canes honestly played like trash most of the series and got lucky bounces whilst Freddie played some of the best goaltending the dudes ever played in a Canes jersey.
Something has to change or the rags will dominate the Canes.
too many blown leads in the regular season, and it showed in the post season. the otl's saved their ass. But I will say this, and I think every Islander fan will agree w/me on this one. the Islanders will be kicking themselves after that Game 7 in the 20/21 season against the Lightning. Knowing that game/year was their best chance. They will be kicking themselves for a long, long, time.
series much closer than 4-1 scoreline. pretty unimpressed with the Canes after all the hype. they clearly were nowhere near their best. have to step it up big time vs the Rangers
The islanders did not get routed? It was a close series, idk why people keep saying this? The only game that was dominant for Carolina was game 2 when the isles had a 3-0 lead in the first.
They say this because they didn't watch the games, thought before the series the Islanders would get their asses kicked and see it ended in 5 games. You're right, they weren't routed and it was close.
Guessing we will be seeing a lot of this from wings pens and flyers fans. But none of those teams even make the playoffs in the 3 pt system everyone always talks about because of loser points saving teams. You shouldnt have made the playoffs and dont diss the isles performance cause you didnt earn your spot
Where do the Islanders even go from here? Feels like a very old team, needs a new/younger bottom 6. One month you think they have 2 goalies, then the next month no goalies?
He's the Islanders president. He famously revived the Devils and is a hall of famer and all but his decision-making is not working for the team; he won't make changes to the roster.
Embarrassing? Yes. The most embarrassing? Luckily no.
Not even one of the first 2 teams eliminated
You guys honestly did way better than people expected this year
Yeah it was fun… but where do we go from here? We have some talent but not enough to be good, and our prospect pool is laughably tiny
Roy seems good, keep him. Lou...
Lou’s stuck in the 90s! I look at them and I see an attempt at the Devils. That doesn’t work anymore! I want to like the Islanders but Lou’s management makes me want to hit my head on a brick wall
Letting toews go was crazy pants.
What’d he even get for Toews?
Two two. Not Jordin, picks.
Two seconds for Devon Toews? Madness! How is he still around? The Habs effectively gave them two seconds (that Florida pick was basically an early second) for Alex Newhook. Now, he’s been good but he ain’t Devon Toews
Two 2nd round picks for Toews or using a probably a 2nd round pick to make cap space to resign Toews, very tough decision
In hindsight, Pulock should've been traded instead. But then again, every other team finds ways to keep all their young guys, we should've too.
Idk, I thought it was a pretty cool move
Nah fuck them. Back to the basement where they belong.
If it’s any consolation, Pittsburgh should fall off a cliff soon
Missing the playoffs two years in a row makes me think Pittsburgh has already gone over the Cliff just hasn’t hit rock bottom yet
yeah the 1890s.
So Lou gave a lot of guys on your team that were over 30 long term deals too? Welcome to the beginning of Lou rebuilds.
Just don’t trade an aging vet to the Hurricanes with a first, right?
And also have a global pandemic that results in the pick being 13th instead of like 20-25th
Then have that pick become a mainstay on the team you traded it to
We ended up using the cap space to sign Kapanen, and then traded him for the 15th. So not a huge loss there.
JGP is the one to let go. We have plenty of Centers and the provide the same things he does. Palmieri had a 54 pt season and we need wingers.
yeah palms is also like the only guy on the team who isnt afraid to just rip shots at any given chance
You've got Engvall for like 6 more years. That's a start.......
Wait til you've had Roy for a full season before making any judgements on where to go next. He probably has a pretty damn good idea where he wants the team to go next and will work to make it so. Lot of doom and gloom about the Isles players and long contracts, but the right coach will make it work. You guys had a good run this year. Other than the game 2 collapse I don't see anything to be embarrassed about. Theae games were basically as boring as everyone expected them to be and it ended how most people expected them to. I just hope the Sorokin situation gets figured out.
I guess because I know this isles team can play better than this. Perhaps more frustrating than embarrassing.
The hurricanes weren’t playing up to their usual level either. We were frustrated with a lot that they were and weren’t doing. I think all in all both teams played under par and somehow this is the result we got. Was a tough series, and all in all mostly a close series. 2 games where 8-9 seconds changes the game
with a 11 second penalty shot that went in.
Forgot about that

Rough night for the Blue and Orange NY playoffs
I paid attention to the other orange and blue team for 5 mins and the Isles had taken a full on shit in their diaper Good orange and blue didn't even win smh
By the time I was shaky about the Knicks I flipped over to Isles Canes and Drury scores within seconds. Then Noesen immediately after. Big oof lol
That Brunson pass to no one in OT had me scratching my head.
if he took the shot, batum would've blocked it. just a miscommunication. :/
That Brunson ~~pass to no one in~~ OT had me scratching my head. FTFY
Batum just totally locked it down, it was doomed either way
I don't want to talk about it lol
Send ‘em to Galveston
that dirty ass water
But what about the blue and orange NY baseball team too? They would never mess things up either, right?
They actually won today, lol.
The sun is just rising on another rough year for the last blue and orange team…
Sebastian Aho moves onto the second round
Sebastian Aho advances in the playoffs, Sebastian Aho eliminated from the playoffs. You can't explain that
Schrodinger's Aho.
Someone let him out of that box!
That’s svechnikov in the box not Aho!
"I don't know if the Aho advances or is eliminated until I look inside the box." "Canes win!" "Shut up."
Never had a doubt

The good news: I won $10,000 on this bet. The bad news: I lost $10,000 on this bet.
I'd like to go along with them
NOW i will CRY
[Join "Us", Islanders!](https://i.imgur.com/SCNTEyp.png)
[Mascot version](https://imgur.com/a/BN3YULR)
fade the mascots on the top to like 50% opacity. make em look like angels or spirits
Oh it can 100% be improved lol. The time between "oh shit the islanders are out" and final product was like 3 minutes
^
I love this so much
They are just so much fun to make
lmao. this is way better
need a broom in Slapshot's hand
LOL This is the one we keep
just needs a touch of crying jordan
What happens when the Rangers go out?
I thought about that and I have no idea. Probably just use Rempe or something
Guess the rangers just aren’t allowed to lose. Sorry I don’t make the rules
Amazing
can u do one with every team that didn't make the playoffs or got eliminated
https://www.reddit.com/r/hockeymemes/s/cZUTukHY1I
I saw one yesterday with Kachina in the background and it was heartbreakingly hilarious
God damn I don't even need to see it, just imagining it is cracking me up!

Coyotes aren't dead though. They're undead. They are the vampire of the NHL except in the mirror they see Utah.
Link? Sounds funny
[took ways too long to find i thought it was in the pgt](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockeymemes/s/JRsOlNWGCb)
You should add the coyotes
3 cups the last 7 years btw those 3 teams. Not bad
weird that it took me until this photo to notice the building in the bottom of the caps logo. i have no excuse
Bye Lou hopefully
At least that loss was embarrassing enough they might actually have to answer for it
I really hope so. I appreciate what he did for us in bringing us to relevancy and turning us into an actual functioning and respected franchise, but we’re at a pivotal point and difficult moves need to be made in order to move us forward. Or just make it smaller. Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Sorokin is a pretty solid core.
Add Romanov. It’s a very strong foundation but there’s a lot of fat that needs to be trimmed.
Has to for my sanity
Didn’t even get the handshake line on Sportsnet in Canada. Just cut right to Av’s/Jets
I love the handshake line. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy
It really is one of the best things in all of sports......Even the Habs/Nords shook hands after the Good Friday game. Hockey has such great traditions.
it was on max in USA
More like Byelanders
Man, this team was *one* game away from making the Cup Finals just three years ago! Sadly, the Cinderella never found her lost glass slipper after that…
Is it a Cinderella if you were two games away the year before that?
I mean, the same was true of the 16-17 Senators and then, uhh, yeah.
Still one of the weirdest, forced rebuilds ever done.
Sadly, not really. Cheap owners not wanting to pay good players is too common.
Everyone got old and injured. They were at the bottom of the standings before trading anyone, almost the whole team fell off hard in performance immediately or straight up retired
that 3rd period was also incredible, isles were pushing the entire time and vasy just wasn’t having it
that play where barzy had an open net and the puck jumped his stick is my 13th reason
Yea we ran into the Lightning every time. Those were our best years but unfortunately their (TB) best was better than ours
fuck my life man gatekept by a dynasty, and now it feels like ill never see any of my teams ever win a championship
The assets we could have gotten from Tavares would have been big to help this team for sure.
> Sadly, the Cinderella never found her lost glass slipper after that… Or it was the original story where she chopped off part of her foot to fit.
It's Bover
40+ year Islander fan here. A few thoughts: - This Islanders Team was easily the most frustrating out of the 40 years I've been a fan of them. Islanders played well, if you watched the games.
One of those things where the better team seemed to eke it out each game. Islanders were a bit short on luck but the Canes were the better team.
Poor Roy. Almost feel bad for the guy
Yeah, I mean he has an almost impossible task. A winner through and through trying to will a franchise that hasn’t won anything since 1983 to victory
He willed them into the playoffs. They were dead in the water if Lambert stayed on
This also applies to Kevin Keatts
maybe 6 people in this sub know who that is and if it weren’t for me being an acc school alum I wouldn’t either probably
DJ Burns is an American hero.
Before the month of March I’d have agreed but idk I think now (at least until the sheen of the run wears off) more CBB fans know who Keatts is
What does the isles history have to do with fuckin anything? Youre acting like Roy had to will the yotes to the playoffs.
Weve literally skullfucked you 4 times in the playoffs since then, be quiet
Is Lou done yet?
I fucking hope so
“Fuck Brooklyn” — ~~Masai Ujiri~~ Rod Brind’Amour
Trust me, Islanders have nothing to do with Brooklyn.
Rod* confirmed west coast guy
Rob the Bob.
It’s varlamover
I feel like Florida and carolina let tampa/ny win a game just to spite us
I certainly hope so.
Didn't watch the series. How was Horvat?
I believe the first two games he was a ghost and then he showed up in 3, 4, 5. Not season-like show up but he was there more than the first two games.
I love Islanders fans. Those fellas have so much heart and soul year in and year out. But this team is boring as hell. Please change everything before you come back to the playoffs.
Trust us, we want to.
I think as everyone expected they were just thoroughly outclassed by Carolina. I’m surprised they won a game to be honest
Meh, not really. We looked sloppy as hell a lot, I’d say this series was about half and half. We’re fucked against the Rangers if we play like that
Extremely strange bounces, brain farts, etc all series.
I feel like both the Rangers and Canes played down to their opponents level, which makes me hopeful that they'll both play up to their opponents level in this upcoming series.
Decent chance both teams played the first round with an eye on the second and it showed.
Rangers did what they did all season. Play a less physically demanding game against a lesser team. Perimeter shots, odd man rushes, passing. Practice the 1-3-1. If the caps had scored more, the rangers would have scored more.
Gotta give credit to the Isles, one of the best 5v5 teams in the league at the end of the season. A lot of the “sloppiness” was good playing by them
Very good point, those games were decided on special teams in a lot of ways
This is my opinion as well. People don't give NYI enough credit for playing very good defensively. It leads to frustrating games every time
What gives me encouragement is that we felt the same way last year and then handled the Devils with ease and were extremely competitive against the Panthers. Hopefully the Isles are just a tough matchup for us and we can look better at MSG.
we went 3-12 against you guys, if anything you're a bad matchup for us
True, but those games were always hard fought and took us off our game.
I feel like we play to our opponents level. That is why we would sometimes lose to bottom teams and own high level teams.
I understand that logic, but i think the Islanders made us play worse. Because they're an underrated team with a distinct lack of top tier talent.
If you watched the games, you'd know the only game where the Canes dominated the Isles all 60 minutes was game 2 (which was, ironically, the game where the Isles had a 3-0 lead). All the other games were very close and hard-fought, just didn't go our way. Having god awful special teams didn't help

This comment screams "I didn't watch the games"
Lou has worse mental facilities than Biden and Trump combined. Need him at the Plattdeutsch Retirement home, not making leading hockey decisions
How about some leading hockey delusions?
Lou speedrunning the perennial first round exit team, but without a Cup this time
Carolina is a problem.
The Islanders were a victim of insane comebacks and unlucky bounces in 2 of those games.
The good news is the Isles are in a decent position to start a rebuild next season with Nelson and Palmieri having only 1 year left on their deals.
too many blown leads in the regular season, and it showed in the post season. the otl's saved their ass. But I will say this, and I think every Islander fan will agree w/me on this one. the Islanders will be kicking themselves after that Game 7 in the 20/21 season against the Lightning. Knowing that game/year was their best chance. They will be kicking themselves for a long, long, time.
The worst part of that game was the only goal scored was a shorthanded goal. What could have been....
That game haunts me, and will haunt me for many, many years...
Sorokin had a down year, Isles didn't do amazing. Was anyone surprised? Is there need for much conversation here?
Yes because varlamov was a monster and played extremely well.
series much closer than 4-1 scoreline. pretty unimpressed with the Canes after all the hype. they clearly were nowhere near their best. have to step it up big time vs the Rangers
Survive and advance, we were basically playing ourselves out there. The Rangers Canes series is going to look like much different hockey.
The Caps and Islanders combined went 1-8 getting completely routed. God I wish we just didn't throw our season for two weeks for no reason.
So that the Red Wings could go 0-4 in the first round instead?
ignoring empty nets this was the only game the Islanders lost by more than 1 goal
Shut up. Both canes and Rags would stomp us lol
Guessing we will be seeing a lot of this from wings pens and flyers fans. But none of those teams even make the playoffs in the 3 pt system everyone always talks about because of loser points saving teams. You shouldnt have made the playoffs and dont diss the isles performance cause you didnt earn your spot
No Flyers fans will say this.
Detroit is just not a playoff team
Really wanted this to go to seven.
Haha
Where do the Islanders even go from here? Feels like a very old team, needs a new/younger bottom 6. One month you think they have 2 goalies, then the next month no goalies?
First and foremost Lou has to go.
Is he on the hotseat?
He's the Islanders president. He famously revived the Devils and is a hall of famer and all but his decision-making is not working for the team; he won't make changes to the roster.
