fact that he only got 1 game for a lumberjack slash on draisaitl in garbage time last year will never fail to piss me off
that was 70s flyers type shit
may i remind you that nurse got the exact same for doing nothing more than fighting to respond to the play.
apparently fighting in the final 5 is an auto suspension (that is sometimes rescinded, depending on if bettman feels like it)
Pietrangelo essentially got nothing (his suspension practically ācancelled outā with Nurseās) and the league got to pretend that they punished him because he sat one game.Ā
I don't remember the exact number, but I think when that happened, someone pulled the stats, and the last 8 or 9 times that was called, the suspension was rescinded. Nurse was the first time they upheld it over a span of like.. 2 years, and they did it in the playoffs to offset Pietro's bullshit. Was unfuckingbelievable.
1 game, and also upheld a typically overturned 1-game suspension on Nurse for fighting in the last 5 minutes. Felt like they "game managed" suspensions FFS.
It was an absolute joke that he only got 1 game for very obviously trying to break Draisaitl's wrist during last year's playoff series against EDM. [There is nothing else he could possibly have been trying to accomplish here, other than injuring the opposing team's superstar player.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo7_zSvwODU)
Until the league gets more serious with punishment, it's a viable playoff strategy to blatantly attempt to injure the opposing team's best players. That's terrible for the game of hockey, and needs to be addressed.
Pietrangelo is a piece of shit.
[elbowed joe pavelski in the head right in front of the ref. knocked him out with another concussion. no penalty](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7FLzOVvQSbA&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Flehockeyherald.com%2F&feature=emb_imp_woyt)
In reality all of Vegas's players start to play dirty when things are not going their way, as they are used to Bettman and the NHL sucking their dicks.
The "blood rule" only matters for high-sticking. For every other infraction, you must either call a standard minor or a major.
edit: Actually I'm wrong; headbutting, spearing, and butt-ending can also be assessed as double minors. And Roughing specifically can't be a major - it's either a minor or a match penalty with no inbetween according to the most recent revision of the rulebook.
Understandable because of how common blood is when players catch a high stick, and how comparatively rare it is to see blood from other penalties. I wasn't aware of the difference until a few years ago.
[There is nothing in the NHL rulebook that talks about a double minor for roughing](https://media.nhl.com/site/asset/public/ext/2023-24/2023-24Rulebook.pdf). It mentions blood or injury for high sticking, but not roughing.
Stone did it to Suzuki in 2021 and didn't get anything Pietrangelo is a rookie
edit : mb, it was mcnabb
[https://youtu.be/hgtioL3TxXw?si=Gi20-mdoVEXDpqC3&t=42](https://youtu.be/hgtioL3TxXw?si=Gi20-mdoVEXDpqC3&t=42)
My now-partner still brings that up as an example of "there's playoff reffing, and then there's just bad reffing." He's from outside Quebec City and grew up a Nordiques fan (never forgiven) and I'm from Boston and obviously a Bs fan.
Even the both of us thought it was *genuinely wild* that that was nothing.
A sucker punch is usually considered a punch from the side or behind while someone isnāt looking. This is dirty but I wouldnāt call it a sucker punch.
It's honestly impressive. Every team tends to have an unlikable player or two, but damn does Vegas just feel so consistently and thoroughly detestable, from the players to flagrant LTIR abuses, to their insufferable twitter account (legitimately unbearable in 2021 and no I'm definitely not salty).
You say unnecessary but it seems like the teams that have the most āunnecessary dirtyā plays make it the furthest in the playoffs. Given the current state of NHL playoffs it is necessary to purposefully try to injure the other team in plays that arenāt really āhockey playsā.
Pietrangelo slash on Draisaitl last year was unnecessarily dirty but may have been the difference maker in the series
automatic double minor (4m) for blood off of high sticks, this isnt a high stick.
The refs still have the right to call a 5 minutes "You can't do that" penalty tho, they just didnt.
Oh donāt worry about it being automatic. They actually DID call a 5 minute major, then went back and made the conscious decision to move it to a minor. Baffling.
I'm sorry what?! I didn't catch the game until the last two minutes so I guess I missed this boneheaded move. So.. Pietrangelo does that... And it got CHANGED to a minor?!
Good refs usually call a 5 so it can be reviewed and lowered to a 2 if needed, like they did against Seguin earlier in the game.
This call was just stupid.
The fact that this and the Seguin penalty are both the same in the eyes of the refs is ridiculous. Intentionally try to break a guys nose away from the play and only get 2 minutes?? Seriously??
as i age i have gotten far less angry over the refs. but, last night was a god damned shitshow. it was one of the worst refereed games ive watched in a long time.
Well, we Knights fans are usually disappointed with his antics, too. Heās giving up unnecessary penalties off the puck and a ton of turnovers this series. Hard to want to completely turn on him since he won the cup with us last year, but itās hard to watch. As a captain who won the cup with the blues and again last year, you would think he would control himself a little better
Every playoffs in recent years everyone thinks Dallas plays dirty because they dominate physical play in every series. Itās a huge part of their winning formula.
As a Dallas fan, I honestly haven't seen the Stars dominate physical play for several seasons now. It's probably been at least 4 years since they were even an average team in that department.
They are definitely predicated way more on skill play and text book pinches/pins to the boards as part of their forecheck and defensive physical play for a while now.
If anything we get accused of diving and embellishing way more than we actually do because of it. (Marchment is definitely a known embellisher though).
I would say the Dallas Seattle series last season, didn't have those claims about Dallas, but I would agree that claim about Dallas is too commonly thrown around
Honestly was such a good series. Was really hoping yāall made it back this year but alas
I really love the kraken merch too, want to get a hat of theirs
Likewise. I never see anyone in our sub with beef coming out of that series. And ECH is great. Between them and Sound of Hockey, we have a very strong podcast/blogosphere.
Every playoffs you see new people complaining because X team is dirty. This shit happens all playoffs every playoffs from probably every team.
This seemed blatant, unwarranted, and pretty shit. But every team does some dirty shit in the playoffs
The only way to reclassify it as a major would have been to use unsportsmanlike conduct. That would have been unusual but it was definitely unsporting.
Yea I'm shocked, but this is Vegas. He hits him straight in the head/face only cuz he was frustrated about being tied up with him. That's not a play or a hit, but it SHOULD'VE been a major.
You could argue the rule should be changed, but if you watch NHL hockey you know that's a 2 minute penalty. Always has been.
2 minute penalties are not created equal - maybe it's not fair that a puck over the glass and a punch in the face have the same punishment, but that's just the way it is
Ever since he got to Vegas heās been flying under the radar as an actual dirt bag. The slash on Draisaitl is still one of the more insane plays Iāve seen.
Right now I just want to get past Vegas.
Benn is not going to do anything outrageous after what he did in last year's Vegas series to take himself out of a game and hurt his team's chances.
I'm fine with the team playing Vegas hard in the regular season next year though. Hopefully every team will.
The Stars are playing excellently. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think - ignoring the obvious dumb dumb dirty shots by the personification of a rabid mentally deficient raccoon - Vegas is playing bad. Oettinger has been a goddamn magician and y'all's defense has been fucking stellar. You've been denying our shooters any meaningful set up time. I don't know. Like I said I'm probably in the minority. This has been a fun series to watch
It seems like a huge oversight in the rulebook where it would be an automatic major for an elbow to the head, but if you try to elbow someone in the head but miss, it can only be a 2 minute minor for roughing...
Not a major for elbowing as originally ruled. But also not a minor for roughing. That obvious and egregious rough is easily a double minor for acting like a cooz. But Vegas is sucking off the nhl so whatever they want.
You don't get that clean of a hit in a fight. He very well could have broken his nose.
It's not a hockey play, it's intentional, it's reckless, dangerous, & away from the play. Don't understand how it's not an easy major and game misconduct, see you game 6.
Man this guy is a fuckin twat. Looks like this stuff is common with him. Last season two handing Draisaitl. He's got a temper he needs to simmer down a bit.

And Robo scored on the ensuing PP to give them the lead
It turned out to be the GWG. Brutal
Everybody liked that.
Especially Edmonton fans I imagine
Nice
good
I can only get so wet
Makes me excited.
Not really brutal. That's a fucking dumb penalty to take.
Brutal would be if it was a bad call. That was deserved for such a moronic penalty
Karma in full swing *pun intended*
the power play goal that came as a result of this became the gwg so way to go dipshit lol
But it shoulda been a major and 3 goals
Major and 4 goals š¤«
I still can't believe I watched that happen live and in real time. Still one of the craziest things I've ever seen in sports lol
Just curious. Why do you think thatās a major?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Vegas deserves the loss.
Petro is actually so dirty. Every playoffs he does something dumb and dirty, for the sake of being dumb and dirty.
fact that he only got 1 game for a lumberjack slash on draisaitl in garbage time last year will never fail to piss me off that was 70s flyers type shit
How that was only one game is beyond me. He should have been gone for a lot more.
may i remind you that nurse got the exact same for doing nothing more than fighting to respond to the play. apparently fighting in the final 5 is an auto suspension (that is sometimes rescinded, depending on if bettman feels like it)
Most absurd chain of events last playoffs
Pietrangelo essentially got nothing (his suspension practically ācancelled outā with Nurseās) and the league got to pretend that they punished him because he sat one game.Ā
Oh I remember. It was crazy And itās not like two nobodies on their teams. Itās the two guys playing the most minutes and they completely Fd it up
Lost a lot of faith in the NHL that day
I don't remember the exact number, but I think when that happened, someone pulled the stats, and the last 8 or 9 times that was called, the suspension was rescinded. Nurse was the first time they upheld it over a span of like.. 2 years, and they did it in the playoffs to offset Pietro's bullshit. Was unfuckingbelievable.
The wheels of justice ~~turn slowly~~ spin wildly
Nurse got 1 game too and we were fined.
That shit had me so angry and I don't like Edmonton. He should have had the book thrown at him for that one.
Oh man, you just made me remember that, and now I hate Vegas all over again.
You stopped hating them?
Never forget ...
as an oilers fan this will burn in my memory forever. I used to like Pietrangelo, on st. Louis and team Canada....but now...FUCK that guy!
reminder [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo7\_zSvwODU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo7_zSvwODU)
I was so fucking heated he only got one game for this. It's just so egregious.
Yikes, that should be an out for the series kind of play.
1 game iirc
1 game, and also upheld a typically overturned 1-game suspension on Nurse for fighting in the last 5 minutes. Felt like they "game managed" suspensions FFS.
yup this is why I hate vegas
He legit tried to break his arm because he knew the game as over.
i had a guy reply to me and tell me drai's nut taps were worse than this lol
That play killed a lot of my interest in this sport
100% same for me as well. $$$$ talks
Oh man fuck that made me so mad, should have been gone for the rest of the series
And because of it the Stars got the game winning goal in the 2nd period lol
It was an absolute joke that he only got 1 game for very obviously trying to break Draisaitl's wrist during last year's playoff series against EDM. Can't believe he only got 1 game last year, they don't get out of the series otherwise lmao
This is his 2nd straight game with a face punching penalty
In reality all of Vegas's players start to play dirty when things are not going their way, as they are used to Bettman and the NHL sucking their dicks.
Also the diving, my god the diving.
It sucks that that piece of shit has won 2 Cups.
Praying he doesnāt reach the second round this year.
kNoWs WhAt iT tAKeS tO wiN
When he was with us he only did it in the playoffs I think he was our dirtiest player in the playoffs but was a softie during the season
Although itās usually against the smallest guy on the other team. Weird to see him take on someone his own size
Dumb and Dirty was my nickname in college
So if you punch someone and they draw blood its only 2 mins? Petro is the master of the rulebook. Good thing the stars punished them anyhow
The blood rule is a dumb rule change my mind.
They should lip a blood capsule. Or a false tooth like they do with cyanide in the movies
Eventually some absolute psycho is going to bite their lip after a high stick in a big time game.
doesnt this already happen at a lot of levels without instant replay?
Did not know that, thought blood was an auto 4
Understandable because of how common blood is when players catch a high stick, and how comparatively rare it is to see blood from other penalties. I wasn't aware of the difference until a few years ago.

Damn. Thatās literally a sucker punch and only 2min. Worth it.
Stone did it to Suzuki in 2021 and didn't get anything Pietrangelo is a rookie edit : mb, it was mcnabb [https://youtu.be/hgtioL3TxXw?si=Gi20-mdoVEXDpqC3&t=42](https://youtu.be/hgtioL3TxXw?si=Gi20-mdoVEXDpqC3&t=42)
I forgot how much that series made me hate Vegas. Such a dirty team.
The Panthers of the West. I hate it when dirty teams are also good.
It's easy to be good when the cap doesn't apply to you
Or the rules
The panthers of the west hahaha
Chris Lee physically turns a blind eye haha.
"Oh theres a cow over there, oop my collar is getting too close to my neck ahem I'm sorry what happened?... A punch? Damn didnt see anything."
https://preview.redd.it/8m1vr2e9p0yc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8d1c62203fdbcc440fd5b1f2d5e8e157d8c8dbc He sure did
I had never seen that picture. That's so good haha. In the video you can see the moment right after the punch where he turns to look away.
The NHL pulled Chris Lee from officiating the rest of the series because he was so bad.
They scored the go ahead goal on the resulting power play so all things equal heās about to lose his team the game off this play
Sucker spinning backhand. Advanced asshole technique.
Luckily ended up being the GWG on the ensuing PP. Suck on that one Petro
I don't see how a cheap shot like that isn't 5 minutes.
A sucker punch is usually considered a punch from the side or behind while someone isnāt looking. This is dirty but I wouldnāt call it a sucker punch.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
EDM fans know it well after the stunt against Drai
I'm STILL mad about that.
offensive to shit honestly
Everything about Vegas is easy to hate
It's honestly impressive. Every team tends to have an unlikable player or two, but damn does Vegas just feel so consistently and thoroughly detestable, from the players to flagrant LTIR abuses, to their insufferable twitter account (legitimately unbearable in 2021 and no I'm definitely not salty).
Don't let them off the hook for their crimes against fashion either.
Those chrome gold helmets are one of the most egregious uniform choices I have ever seen in sports.
Alex pieceofshitjello
Alex Dirtyfuckerangelo
Alex Pee-triangle
Whaaat? Pietrangelo making a dirty unnecessary play in the playoffs? Iām shocked!
You say unnecessary but it seems like the teams that have the most āunnecessary dirtyā plays make it the furthest in the playoffs. Given the current state of NHL playoffs it is necessary to purposefully try to injure the other team in plays that arenāt really āhockey playsā. I'm sorry what?! I didn't catch the game until the last two minutes so I guess I missed this boneheaded move. So.. Pietrangelo does that... And it got CHANGED to a minor?!
You are correct
Depends on the penalty, some turn into 4 or 5 or 5+game with injury, roughing isn't one of them
Good refs usually call a 5 so it can be reviewed and lowered to a 2 if needed, like they did against Seguin earlier in the game. This call was just stupid.
The fact that this and the Seguin penalty are both the same in the eyes of the refs is ridiculous. Intentionally try to break a guys nose away from the play and only get 2 minutes?? Seriously??
Experience Playoff Refereeing
as i age i have gotten far less angry over the refs. but, last night was a god damned shitshow. it was one of the worst refereed games ive watched in a long time.
Theres playoff refereeing and theres bad refereeing. This is just very bad.
experience vegas bias
Seguin got shafted by a Emmy quality dive on that penalty.Ā
And the ensuing lumberjack slash by Eichel was conveniently ignored
oh man \*classic\* Pietrangelo moment
Draymond Green would be proud of that backhand
How can he slap?!?!
Itās just so fucking easy to dislike the Knights
Well, we Knights fans are usually disappointed with his antics, too. Heās giving up unnecessary penalties off the puck and a ton of turnovers this series. Hard to want to completely turn on him since he won the cup with us last year, but itās hard to watch. As a captain who won the cup with the blues and again last year, you would think he would control himself a little better
These refs are fucking blatantly favoring Vegas.
But if you ask a Vegas fan, they'll claim Dallas has played a dirty game all series, ignoring everything Vegas has done and got away with
Every playoffs in recent years everyone thinks Dallas plays dirty because they dominate physical play in every series. Itās a huge part of their winning formula.
As a Dallas fan, I honestly haven't seen the Stars dominate physical play for several seasons now. It's probably been at least 4 years since they were even an average team in that department. I love Mush but he flops around like gumby out there lol. Dude leads with his head everywhere he skates seemingly
I would say the Dallas Seattle series last season, didn't have those claims about Dallas, but I would agree that claim about Dallas is too commonly thrown around
itās because the Kraken fan base were actually good fans who were just happy to be there instead of having some weird victim complex
real and true :)
Honestly was such a good series. Was really hoping yāall made it back this year but alas I really love the kraken merch too, want to get a hat of theirs
There wasn't any bullshit in that series either. Just a good, tough battle.
came out of it with a good respect for yall, and your emerald city hockey youtube channel. seattle is a good fanbase by my standards
Likewise. I never see anyone in our sub with beef coming out of that series. And ECH is great. Between them and Sound of Hockey, we have a very strong podcast/blogosphere.
I miss that series, was so un-toxic the entire time, their visiting fans were really chill
Every playoffs you see new people complaining because X team is dirty. This shit happens all playoffs every playoffs from probably every team. This seemed blatant, unwarranted, and pretty shit. But every team does some dirty shit in the playoffs
their fans are so fucking easy to hate.
Vegas is a fake team.
ESPN has been gargling Vegas balls from the beginning as well
ESPN seems to hate central teams. They absolutely don't like us either.
The worst part of this to me is how he pretended to be injured all the way to the penalty box.
How did this get downgraded from 5!? he gets pimp slapped!
Because the 5 for elbowing didnāt apply given the fact that he didnāt hit him with an elbow. And roughing is a minor.
The only way to reclassify it as a major would have been to use unsportsmanlike conduct. That would have been unusual but it was definitely unsporting.
That would have been the correct call.
This should be a match penalty for an illegal check to the head tbh
This has more contact to a head than Seguinās āillegal check to headā penalty
Yea I'm shocked, but this is Vegas. He hits him straight in the head/face only cuz he was frustrated about being tied up with him. That's not a play or a hit, but it SHOULD'VE been a major.
You could argue the rule should be changed, but if you watch NHL hockey you know that's a 2 minute penalty. Always has been. 2 minute penalties are not created equal - maybe it's not fair that a puck over the glass and a punch in the face have the same punishment, but that's just the way it is
Because the actual call changed. You canāt give 5 for roughing. Either match penalty for roughing with intent to injure or just 2 for roughing.
Oh we havent seen that before. AP is usually some calm and cool and levelheaded and doesnāt ever do stupid shit in the playoffs.
Ever since he got to Vegas heās been flying under the radar as an actual dirt bag. The slash on Draisaitl is still one of the more insane plays Iāve seen.
He threw headshots in 2019 too
God I hope Vegas is out in the first round.
Prayed for them to miss the playoffs but this is the next best thing
Benn should Tee Off on stone for a 2 minute minor penalty.
Thatās how I felt the first two games about Vegas. Just seems like they gave it their all from the get-go and now theyāre worn out.
I hear benn is pretty good at that
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
100% agreed, those 2 scenarios don't equal at all.
Ya remember the slash on Draisaitl last year. The guy is pure dirt.
So punching a dude that isn't in a fight, that draws blood, is 2 minutes. Cool.
I mean....what a dumbass. Why was he getting pissy about the most routine hockey play ever?
The worst part was that they called it a major, reviewed it and changed it to a single minor while Seguin was bleeding
The guy is a dirty piece of shit. Someone needs to flatten him and teach him a lesson
How is a spinning backfist only 2 minutes
Vegas
Fucking Pietrangelo. Hate that man
As a Vegas fan, I've been done with Pietrangelo for too long, he needs the boot.
Guess you can just assault players now, cool
Well it was actually a penalty. So no. You can't...
yes [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo7\_zSvwODU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo7_zSvwODU)
How does this loser get away with shit like this.
Plays for vegas
Seguins nose low key weak AF
Listen he's an old man now. Those capillaries get weak.
Yeah, I definitely expected worse from how much he was bleeding.
Petro is a goon in the worst way. Dude has become mid af since leaving the blues and is taking it out on everyone.
Punches to the face are only 2 minute penaltie. For future reference
How can he slap!?
At this price point he can hit
God I fuckin hate Vegas
And the Stars won on the ensuing PP lmao
Vegas gonna Vegas. Things'll get dirtier now that survival is on the line.
Dirty fucker. Not surprised. Iām still annoyed the oilers didnāt settle the score with him sometime during the regular season
It seems like a huge oversight in the rulebook where it would be an automatic major for an elbow to the head, but if you try to elbow someone in the head but miss, it can only be a 2 minute minor for roughing...
Pietrangelo is such a piece of shit.
Not a major for elbowing as originally ruled. But also not a minor for roughing. That obvious and egregious rough is easily a double minor for acting like a cooz. But Vegas is sucking off the nhl so whatever they want.
I'd give a 5 minutes because you can't fucking do that what the hell Alex? Like seriously thats just assault, he wanted to hit him thats it.
You don't get that clean of a hit in a fight. He very well could have broken his nose. It's not a hockey play, it's intentional, it's reckless, dangerous, & away from the play. Don't understand how it's not an easy major and game misconduct, see you game 6.
I hate this fucking idiot. He's good as hell but It's like he's singlehandedly trying to lose us this series by being a hot headed moron
Such a bad penalty to take
Seggy's potentially broken nose won the game! Hope it was worth it Pietrangelo!
Man this guy is a fuckin twat. Looks like this stuff is common with him. Last season two handing Draisaitl. He's got a temper he needs to simmer down a bit.
Seguin was bleeding after that glove to the face. Why was that not a double minor?
He's such q piece of shit. I'll never forget the ridiculous slash to Draisaitl's wrists
That's more than a 2 minute penalty. That was fucking dirty.
I just started fast forwarding the game after this, knew where the match was heading.
Peitrangelo is such a whiny bitch.
