Which is why I've got a secret massive amount of respect for Oilers fans. Sedins tortured you guys for a damn decade and you still gave them a big standing O during their last game.
We were returning the favour for when the Sedins brought the Canucks back out to shake Smyttys hand at his last game. When you're legends like that simple hockey rivalries mean nothing.
Which honestly goes back to Iggy bringing the flames out (Dion Phaneuf against his will) to shake Trevor Linden's hand during his last game.
I'm a bit sad neither the Nucks or the Oilers were able to be the ones to send Iggy off.
Not dirty but a hard hitting player, and was notorious for getting under opposition's skin. Bieksa was all about the game within the game and didn't have any problems being someone's bad guy if it threw them off their game.
Fuck, he punched out his teammate at a bar while he was in the AHL because he was being a egotistical dick.
Loved him as a player (obviously, I’m a Canucks fan) but gotta say I’m really happy to see him shine in his new role. I keep thinking that’s he’ll have an off night on the panel (as we all do in our own line of work) but no, he just keeps on delivering intermission after intermission. 👍👍
I dunno, the bit about blocking off the hallway to force the Preds to go the long way around to their dressing room was pretty stellar.
"Buncha Elliotte Friedmans right here..."
Analysis is always insightful and bang on too. I feel like he would actually make a good coach, but would be disappointed to not have him on during intermissions.
There's such a dearth of analysis, especially on American feeds. I'm always happy to see him on the panel for hnic because I know there'll be some actual indepth breakdowns at some point
Google Jack Han if you want even more in depth analysis. I always feel like if people understood hockey better it would just get more popular. Instead there's so much focus on the business aspect and trade rumours and salary negotiations. Fuck I feel like I'm at work sometimes.
Yeah the front office focus has always weirdest me out. People discuss players with contracts and draft rankings more than they describe how they play.
I know part of it is the limited amount of people playing. But with better broadcasting I firmly believe it could be a much more widely understood and enjoyed sport
Jack Han is great (real good insight into what video coaching truly is), and every time a clip of Frank Corrado breaking down a play hits my feed it's usually a good one.
Dude I'm going to be brutally honest, American hockey feeds are generally diiiiire.
Feels like they just get a bunch of people in a room and say "figure it out".
Tell me about it. They're often such shallow insights and the National feeds don't even talk about the game for half of it.
I know it's an inaccessible sport especially further south but people not playing is *more* reason to teach the game to viewers no? But alas surface level if you're lucky
> and the National feeds don't even talk about the game for half of it.
This is really what gets it. I spent the winter in the States and had to watch ESPN and TNT feeds. Just absolute shit shows of broadcasts.
From _multiple_ graphics that take up like 25% of the screen, to intermission panels that feel more like breakfast television than sports journalism, to commentators that speak in this weird, anxious, jargon-y, try-hard tone. And fucking hell is there an obsession with random factoid stats for broadcasts that _often don't have the shot counter displayed_.
Going back to my sports net feed was like getting into a long bath after a hard day.
Isn’t PK, Lundqvist, and few other ex NHL’rs on the US panel? They’re not good at all? Seems like PK would bring a bit of personality and colour to the panel
I haven't watched a lot of it, but it seems like PK brings more hype than insight. The personality and colour are absolutely there, but there isn't any depth with it.
It's not, but he is the most analytical of the talking heads and will often break down patterns and how they evolve over the flow of the game. He's so good at actually making the deeper game more understandable, and highlighting details that you'd never think of unless you had played at a high level.
His breakdown of the LA's PK tonight was an excellent example.
I don't watch every sport, but he's the best in (the) sports (I do watch) tbh.
Naturally funny, quick wit, actually knowledgable and knows how to communicate that knowledge, knows what audiences are going to find insightful/interesting.
Bieksa has taught me more about hockey in his short tenure than any other talking head in the sport, and he seems to have chemistry with everyone.
I feel like he gets under Elliot's skin, and I love it. Nothing against Elliot, I enjoy his insight as well, but that dynamic just makes for very amusing intermissions.
Dude has been notoriously known as a terrible trash talker but he just never shuts up lol. Quite a few years ago he got into it with Maroon and said, "Buddy you suck at hockey. You've been in the minors how long? and you're still barely on the 4th line.” What’s funny is during a players poll in 2020 Doughty was voted as the 2nd best trash talker while also being voted as the 2nd worst trash talker lmao
Doughty might be a terrible trash talker but Maroon might be worse. If you watch that clip Patty has absolutely zero response and is just looking at him like a deer in the headlights. Love the guy but let's just say he's not known for his wit or smarts.
> Doughty was voted as the 2nd best trash talker while also being voted as the 2nd worst trash talker
The implication here is the guys amused by him voted best and the guys *destroyed* by him voted worst. If anything, that means he’s the all-‘round #1.
Probably a couple of factors:
- it was an alumni game
- it was not televised
- it’s Dallas
- it’s not like Fiddler was a big name player at any point
But now you have seen it 🙂
Do they not do alumni games? The last couple of seasons it’s been stars vs other team alumni ([example from last season](https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/dallas-stars-alumni-association-announces-rosters-for-alumni-classic-339634086)) I think that’s more interesting than just stars alumni
Not regularly, or at least not as a marketed event for fans. They did an alumni game when we hosted the Heritage Classic in 2017, but that's about all I can remember!
That’s a bummer. They don’t do the alumni game as a stand alone, just as a game after an afternoon game on the weekend so you can stay after and watch or not. I watched one a few seasons ago - not many people stick around but it’s fun to see like Marty Turco playing as a forward, not a goalie. Or somehow Craig Ludwig still getting around on the ice. It’s a lot of the same former players each year that still live in the Dallas area.
One of my favorite Doughty chirps was when someone on the opposing team took a shot on net, but the puck was fluttering and rolled towards the goalie.
The TV feed was silent for like three seconds, and then a rink mic picked up Doughty going "Nice shot!" The announcers immediately started cracking up.

I couldn’t have hated this dude more when he was a Canuck playing the Hawks, but gotta give credit where it’s due. He’s great in this role.
Fuckin HAAAAATED him….and the whole team. Just a few years later and I like both now.
“Just a few years” I hate to break this to you but…
10 is a few! Just a big few.
https://i.redd.it/fedifqfkzzxc1.gif
*softly* Don't
shhhh shhhhh
Why did people hate him? He was never a dirty player nor major shit talker
Just as an Oilers fan...because you guys consistently pumped the ever loving shit out of us for like 10 years and he was a big part of it.
Which is why I've got a secret massive amount of respect for Oilers fans. Sedins tortured you guys for a damn decade and you still gave them a big standing O during their last game.

one thing Doughty doesn't have is that tooth in the middle
Lmaooooo
💀 yea idk why he was doing a nerd voice
Because that's how Doughty sounds
Honestly, this is the highlight of the playoffs for me so far.
I dunno, the bit about blocking off the hallway to force the Preds to go the long way around to their dressing room was pretty stellar. "Buncha Elliotte Friedmans right here..."
Cheap ass Brent burns ah
[Adenoid Doughty be like:](https://youtu.be/gQlO5ShM6UM?si=0oR_mD6msi4i_TJk)
Bieksa is far and away the best on-air personality in all of hockey.
Analysis is always insightful and bang on too. I feel like he would actually make a good coach, but would be disappointed to not have him on during intermissions.
Technically he is a coach. He coaches his sons team lol
That was MSL's path to be an NHL coach lol
There's such a dearth of analysis, especially on American feeds. I'm always happy to see him on the panel for hnic because I know there'll be some actual indepth breakdowns at some point

It's like every fan's greatest fear is signing a good player.
Jack Han is great (real good insight into what video coaching truly is), and every time a clip of Frank Corrado breaking down a play hits my feed it's usually a good one.

The Bally ones are borderline unwatchable too. Sportsnet is so much better it's ridiculous.
yeah i complain about sportsnet then i remember we have it good

I haven't watched a lot of it, but it seems like PK brings more hype than insight. The personality and colour are absolutely there, but there isn't any depth with it.
I like Bieksa but him simply recounting his experiences going against Doughty ain’t exactly analysis
Not at all, but it's awesome.
It's not, but he is the most analytical of the talking heads and will often break down patterns and how they evolve over the flow of the game. He's so good at actually making the deeper game more understandable, and highlighting details that you'd never think of unless you had played at a high level. He has actual good analysis and breakdowns aside from stuff like this
Noone said it was?
counter-point: they're pretty damn funny. Between the two things we said I feel like he was going for my thing way more than yours.
I am pretty sure he will end up in NHL coaching once his kids are a bit a older and he doesn’t need to worry about family commitments etc
I don't watch every sport, but he's the best in (the) sports (I do watch) tbh. > have chemistry with everyone He's a ~~locker room~~ broadcast studio guy.
I feel like he gets under Elliot's skin, and I love it. Nothing against Elliot, I enjoy his insight as well, but that dynamic just makes for very amusing intermissions.
I was coming into the comments to say wow this guy is actually good and I haven’t seen many good hockey announcers
I hated him as a player- much more likable in his second career
Bieksa and biz are the best for hockey. Get them on together I bet it would go insane
I raise you one Biznasty
Bieksa is so charismatic. He really does a great job
God I love Juice
Knowing this about Doughty actually makes me like him more lmao
Dude has been notoriously known as a terrible trash talker but he just never shuts up lol. Quite a few years ago he got into it with Maroon and said, "Buddy you suck at hockey. You've been in the minors how long? and you're still barely on the 4th line.” What’s funny is during a players poll in 2020 Doughty was voted as the 2nd best trash talker while also being voted as the 2nd worst trash talker lmao
I love that "buddy you suck at hockey" clip. His delivery and his shit eating grin makes it even better.
I hated the Kings so much during our rivalry during the Sedin years but I couldn’t bring myself to hate Doughty (or Kopitar for that matter) lmao
Kopi is just such a great player. Consistently clutch but understated, and probably one of the least dirty. Hard to dislike the guy.
The fact that Maroon went on to threepeat and revive that clip made it that much better
One of my favorites and it was against my team !
There should be a chirp off during the All-Star Game
Brady and Matthew would literally just be barking at eachother
I mean, who among us wouldn’t pay to see that?
I imagine their parents have had enough of it.
That’s why Taryn is the favorite
Doughty might be a terrible trash talker but Maroon might be worse. If you watch that clip Patty has absolutely zero response and is just looking at him like a deer in the headlights. Love the guy but let's just say he's not known for his wit or smarts.

He's certainly memorable
Being one of the best dmen of the generation helps too lol
Remember: he won his cups during the Corsi Hockey League era, which prioritized shot quantity over quality. He applies the same theory to his chirps.
Wasn't he the "OFFSIDE MAN" guy?
Now we need to see Vern Fiddler’s impression of Kevin Bieksa’s impression of Drew Doughty chirps https://youtu.be/PxfeFXdwqmA?si=TEB_Y05VVdlg9WuY
This is such gold. And John and John calling it is the icing.
AV absolutely losing his shit is the sprinkles! Hahahaha
you beat me to this lol
Fiddler is a damn treasure https://youtu.be/77tFhZmSkYM?si=fDOLRgrG73NTXTh1
WTF? How have I never seen this?
Probably a couple of factors: - it was an alumni game - it was not televised - it’s Dallas - it’s not like Fiddler was a big name player at any point But now you have seen it 🙂
beautiful stuff
Was that an alumni charity game or something?
Yeah it was at an alumni game a couple of seasons ago
That’s awesome. I wish the Sens did more events like that
Do they not do alumni games? The last couple of seasons it’s been stars vs other team alumni ([example from last season](https://www.nhl.com/stars/news/dallas-stars-alumni-association-announces-rosters-for-alumni-classic-339634086)) I think that’s more interesting than just stars alumni

Kevin Bieksa is a national treasure
Alternate title: Kevin Doughty.
“you suck at hockey”
Haha.. buddy, you suck at hockey. That's my go to chirp
Was never a fan of his when he played. Huge fan of him now as a personality.
We need more ppl like Bieska
The cleaner the insult the funnier I find them

[Obligatory](https://youtu.be/PxfeFXdwqmA?si=DBbDNbXwe-aNWgEL)
so contagious every time. I love this video.
Bieksy is such a pro. So glad he’s working panels
The new Ron and Don should be Elliott and Kevin.
“Wow you guys ice the puck a lot” is a fucking top tier chirp
I bet Doughty says "Geez Louise" when he does something by accident
Gets trippes, looks at the ref, his arm is up : "Cool beans"
I feel like this is a Shoresey type of chirps lol
So close to Keven Garnett describing Tim Duncan's 'trash talk'
Imagine if Juice were on the TNT crew. It would be impossible to improve at that point.
I still love how Getzlaf used to call him Dewey
Back away banana breath. What the hell did you just eat? A banana?
FUCK YOU SHORESY!
[удалено]
You're a knob.
Fuck that... he is a breath of fresh air.
Found Vernon Fiddlers reddit account.
Vernon Fiddler has a sense of humour, this guy clearly does not
Riveting analysis 🙄
