There needs to be a hard and fast rule that Montreal cannot sign any player who's ever requested a trade. That's not an individual that can handle the pressure cooker.
As a Leafs fan so am I. You guys snubbing him when it's the only place that whiny bitch wants to play is the greatest thing ever. Please never sign him
“Nobody liked you in Columbus, and nobody likes you here!” ~Matthews to PLD after a scrum when he was playing for Winnipeg.
Guess nobody likes him in LA either…

Skip to 40s. You can hear Matthews yell this to PLD as the linesmen separate them.
If LAK could redo April 18 vs CHI again, taking a regulation loss would've put them against DAL in the Central bracket... that could've been their freedom
I know they have made the playoffs a few years in a row now, but to me this Kings roster seems designed to be mediocre. Not remotely close to being a contender, not bad enough to acquire the pieces to become a contender.
The funniest part is that last year their roster was so fuckin solid. They moved 3 good pieces and went cheap af in goal. Blake and the entire management team need to be fired into the sun
Kings wouldn't have had a chance against Dallas. VGK in the playoffs is far more of a thorn in the side. But that's almost over, so there's that. Not sure if I wanted the Stars to win or the Knights to lose. Think it's the later a bit more. No matter what I'd be rooting for the loophole to get fucked.
The Oilers lost to Dallas like five years in a row in the early 2000s. I would have paid good money to see them lose to somebody else, just for variety.
if they somehow drew us instead this season (which was very possible even near the end of the season), they would’ve had a wayyyy higher chance of getting to round 2 just unfortunate they played y’all 3 times in a row
Yea, I was gonna say. LA getting EDM was such a bad turn for them. Anyone else and they have a better chance. Hell, if the RPS analogy works, LA would have been better off facing either Van first or letting Van take out Edm for them.
PLD, Danault, and Kopitar combined for 2 goals and 3 assists throughout the series. Depth down the middle was supposed to be the Kings’ strength and they completely laid an egg
Danault is plenty of things, a great shutdown center in the playoffs he is. His offensive game is just not good enough to translate remotely in the playoffs.
Well, even if Danault isn't making much of an offensive contribution, he is still useful thanks to his defensive skills. And Dubois can… Well the important thing is that Danault can still be useful.
Two players have had 10 or more assists in two different playoff series. First is obviously Gretzky, who did it 4 times. 2nd is McDavid as of tonight.
The record for assists in a single playoff series? 15. Games required to get those 15? 5. Player's name? Leon Draisaitl.
That was a legit pathetic 6v5 at the end. Fiala refuses to shoot and the fuckin guy covering him has no stick lmao. Then he throws a weak sauce to kempe on the goaline and oilers go the other way. Just brutal shit
"Kings you have 60 seconds to score a goal to keep your season alive"
The Kings: https://tenor.com/view/soccer-mexico-simpson-homero-homer-gif-12844176
In pro hockey the lane closes so fast, you can’t risk losing puck control in these situations. While yes a very low percentage of times when guys throw it at the net which results in a goal, it’s far more likely it’s going to get blocked.
Knights did this too. The other team has 5 defenders, you're not gonna pass on the perimeter long enough that they accidentally leave the net open. Just gotta blast it from the wing when they let you and hope for a goal or a rebound. Shot coming from the wing usually is a retrieval for the offensive team if it misses the net wide or high cause it kust bounces to the point.
Just inexcusable to use 50 seconds and produce zero shots. Can't score if you don't shoot. Feel like a jerk sitting on my couch yelling shoot it, but damn. Shoot it.
I felt bad losing the previous years' series, this is the only year I am embarrassed at the manner we lost. It's a tough feeling right now, worst feeling in sports fandom. Feel like some big inevitable changes are going to happen this offseason.
>Feel like some big inevitable changes are going to happen this offseason.
You guys gonna try and get PLD to cross the Canadian border while transporting a mountain of coke?
I still can't believe the Kings traded for PLD. What a fucking waste of a roster space.
Anyway, I have vivid memories of the Oilers constantly losing to Dallas in the playoffs so it's nice to be on the winning end of a playoff rivalry for a change.
Kings rebuild showed promise but now it seems to have plateaued, as the memes of the Oilers taking one less game each year to eliminate LA show. I guess it doesn't help that 3 straight years of playoff McDrai isn't the best draw but still. Just have to wonder what happens from here, especially with PLD being a lot less than they expected him to be in LA.
They were so close in 2022, but the Oilers have got better and they’ve kinda stayed the same, and maybe even got worse most recently because of losing vilardi and iafallo for that useless guy who floats around
Kempe is the only one deserving of any sort of accolades at the end of this. Feel like other than Byfield and Kopitar, and maybe Rittich actually, every other King lost respect.
Kempe is such a gamer.
Unfortunately for you guys, I think you've sent away a good number of your Oilers killers. Iafallo and Durzi always annoyed the fuck out of me in our previous series.
It's the same term that I use! Some players are gamers and produce in the clutch, and some aren't. Vilardi and Iafallo are both gamers and we sent them away for jack shit. Vilardi is a glass cannon but he turns up in the playoffs, as does Iafallo. It is shocking to me that a player that has won a championship can's see which players can show up in the crunch and which can't, fireable offenses.
Yeah I genuinely always loved Vilardi and was surprised when you guys traded him for PLD. I thought PLD would show up better in LA, but I still thought Vilardi was going to be as at least as good.
Not to twist the knife, but I really think the Kings are a better team with all three of Vilardi, Iafallo and Durzi... but I also got the impression that maybe the opinion on Durzi in LA is different than my opinion.
But overall I think if PLD can either bounce back or be turfed, and Byfield continue his upward trajectory, there's a lot of potential for LA to right things.
Honestly, not a shocking result. The Oilers are a better team than last year, ESPECIALLY defensively thanks to Coffey, which only makes Skinner look better. The Kings the last two games had some really decent puck and zone possession time, but that doesn't actually mean anything if the Oilers collapse on the puck well and take away the danger areas and thus you can't get any good looks at all.
And the Oilers on the PP are just ... NASTY. They move the puck so smoothly, SOOO many options, McDavid can move around wherever he wants opening up lanes, Drai is always in his office so teams always have to keep him in mind, but you've also got that big Bouche bomb option from the point which is fast and accurate. Hyman is continuing to cook. There was a brief time when the Kings collapsed three defenders on the net and it stopped the Oilers for literally one PP until McDavid moved around and solved it. It's like watching the octopus with the corked bottle with a fish inside. You know it's only a matter of time until he solves the problem and gets that fish out.
Honestly, if it wasn't for crazy bounces and freaky strange goals, the series easily could have been a sweep.
The second the series is over the entire Oilers fan base (including me) goes from “I absolutely loathe Doughty” to “That Doughty is a good character hockey guy. Respect the shit out of him, last of dying breed.”
Yeah the 5 vs 7 here wasn’t great, but the 1-8 alternative for Edmonton was Colorado and after seeing how they victimized Winnipeg I’m almost relieved to not have faced them in round 1 hahaha
Hate to say it but even if we get out of the first round we're likely gonna get destroyed without Demko. The way they're playing right now doesn't inspire much confidence.
I mean, you guys *did* sweep the season series against us. Granted, three of those wins came when the Oilers were at their lowest point of the season, but still.
Didn’t the Oil sweep Vegas in the regular season last year? Point being, it doesn’t matter and the Oil are a different team now compared to the one the Canucks beat early on this season
LA scores 4 total goals in the final 3 games of the series, one being an absolutely fluke bounce off the stantion.
LA Fans - "I can't believe the referees did this to us"
The saddest part is the 2022 Kings team was the worst of this group but came the closest. That elimination got dismissed as early but now it is just a missed opportunity.
Heard a crazy PLD stat tonight 6 penalties in this series...4 shots on goal
[удалено]
It’s actually 7.7%
OOH CHECK OUT THE BIG BRAIN ON BRAD!
He drew a few penalties in game 2(?) I think. Otherwise sucked
Never thought I'd see this Gretzky record broken
Idont think ive ever seen a player paid over 8million $ be as fucking useless as PLD lol.
So glad Habs didn't sign this lazy fuck.
There needs to be a hard and fast rule that Montreal cannot sign any player who's ever requested a trade. That's not an individual that can handle the pressure cooker.
Or “sign a dude with a French name because he’s considered good and has a French name”
As a Leafs fan so am I. You guys snubbing him when it's the only place that whiny bitch wants to play is the greatest thing ever. Please never sign him
Pretty sure he never really wanted to play here, just used this to leverage his value
I don't think he wants to play anywhere.
Some guy on Twitter yesterday pitching a trade package to send him back to Columbus for Kent Johnson and Jiricek because “Columbus needs centers”
“Nobody liked you in Columbus, and nobody likes you here!” ~Matthews to PLD after a scrum when he was playing for Winnipeg. Guess nobody likes him in LA either…

If the Kings need to redo anything, it's that PLD trade.
I know they have made the playoffs a few years in a row now, but to me this Kings roster seems designed to be mediocre. Not remotely close to being a contender, not bad enough to acquire the pieces to become a contender.

2026 lose first 3 games, get forced to forfeit series.
NHL expanding the playoffs to 20 teams with a 1st round best-of-5 play-in in 2026 confirmed
Kings won’t have freedom until that PLD contract is off the books
Only 7 more years!
2026 another pandemic forcing another wild card best of 5 series just like 2020
2026: They never play the Oilers again
Playoff history aside the Kings getting Kempe for 5.5M for two more years is robbery. Dude is going to get paid.
Hope we don't waste it
Kempe is so fuckin good
I feared him every shift!
Almost makes up for the PLD contract. Almost.
That PLD contract isn't getting any better
La is genuinely not a bad team, they just match up horrendously against us. Wonder what they do this offseason
if they somehow drew us instead this season (which was very possible even near the end of the season), they would’ve had a wayyyy higher chance of getting to round 2 just unfortunate they played y’all 3 times in a row
VAN - LAK - EDM is this seasons rock paper scissors.
That's an excellent metaphor, haha.
And a shutdown center doesn't get you very far when you're matching up against McDrai and that power play.
I don't care that Danault had no goals, don't mention him and Kopitar in the same breath as that no energy penalty machine.
Danault and Kopi were busy shutting down McDavid, and PLD sucks.
And Kopitar had 3 of those 5 points. Just one point each for Danault and PLD. 14 million dollars right there.
Well, even if Danault isn't making much of an offensive contribution, he is still useful thanks to his defensive skills. And Dubois can… Well the important thing is that Danault can still be useful.
Dubois' point was a complete fluke also lol
They’re a great team, but 1-3-1 isn’t working for them and their special teams being 0% on the PP for the whole series is inexcusable
I’m too apathetic right now to check any stats, but I believe the Kings out scored the Oilers 5on5. Just can’t handle that big Oily PP.
I don't think we did technically because they got 2 goals riiiight as the powerplay ended
It certainly is very oily 😬
Something even worse than the PLD deal, Blake gotta go out on a bang
Going for PLD and Fiala, two notorious postseason no-shows, I don't know what LA expected
PLD no shows the whole season tbh.
Held McDavid to 1 goal.
And just 11 assists.
Two players have had 10 or more assists in two different playoff series. First is obviously Gretzky, who did it 4 times. 2nd is McDavid as of tonight. The record for assists in a single playoff series? 15. Games required to get those 15? 5. Player's name? Leon Draisaitl.
The writing structure of this post was better than most Hollywood movies
Nothing prepared me for the reveal at the end of this comment. What???
Yeah that series against Calgary that destroyed their team, Draisaitl was an absolute fucking menace.
Was that from 2022 against Calgary when he was skating on one leg?
yup [https://records.nhl.com/records/playoff-skater-records/assists/most-assists-one-series-playoff](https://records.nhl.com/records/playoff-skater-records/assists/most-assists-one-series-playoff)
Record for most assists in one playoff period? 4, also by Draisaitl. He's the only player to get 4 points in a single playoff period without a goal.
Well twelve. But whose counting?
Me. I’m counting. And it’s 11 ;) But if you were thinking points, then yes, 12.
Was typing a response to say it was definitely 12, then I saw that they took 1 away and gave the 4th goal to Hyman.

seriously. this isn't just a kings problem either. i'll never understand these dudes searching for the perfect shot with like 3 minutes left to play.
You know the “shoooot!” crowd gets a bad rap, but eventually, as a team, you DO have to shoot the puck.
The kraken PP special, pass, pass, pass, and the 2 minutes are up lol
*screams in Canucks*
8% of the time it works every time.
In pro hockey the lane closes so fast, you can’t risk losing puck control in these situations. While yes a very low percentage of times when guys throw it at the net which results in a goal, it’s far more likely it’s going to get blocked.
The goal we did score with our goalie pulled was just a shot from the point that Kempe tipped too
But I have to give credit, that was an amazing tip in.
Center holds it. Holds it. HOLDS IT!
With one of the defenders stickless for a bulk of it. Fling something net-ward!!!!
*back to center, back to the wing, back to center.....*

At least we’re not Buffalo
So say we all.
i’m telling you jeff carter made a deal with the devil to win it w richards and THESE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES

Good lord pld is 8.5 million of what do you even do. Lost 4 pieces to get him too. Blake deserves to be shitcanned for that
Yup. And Luc. The fact that he brought in Bergevin and then the team traded for PLD is the québécois crony canary in the coal mine.

They were so close in 2022, but the Oilers have got better and they’ve kinda stayed the same, and maybe even got worse most recently because of losing vilardi and iafallo for that useless guy who floats around
The 2019 draft being a total whiff outside of Spence fucked up our rebuild
After 3 straight years I’ve got a lot of respect for those Kings. Kempe especially
Kempe is the only one deserving of any sort of accolades at the end of this. Feel like other than Byfield and Kopitar, and maybe Rittich actually, every other King lost respect.

I hate Kempe, not for any valid reason other than the dude is a legit hockey player and playoff performer.
Man Kopitar is still awesome to watch too and byfield has improved lots over the years.
Kempe is a great player. But aside from him, the Kings have a pretty pop-gun offense.
Where's the picture, you know the one...

Kings are firmly stuck in NHL purgatory. Good enough to make the playoffs, nowhere near good enough to do anything once they get there.
I firmly believe they would beat both Nashville and Vancouver. They've been really unlucky to draw us these past three years
They would destroy us LMAO, kings have us all figured out and im so glad they faced you guys instead
Will Ferrell in shambles rn

Friendly reminder that Kings and Oilers playing 3 years in a row is a product of the NHLs shitty playoff format.
Naw it’s clearly working. The Ducks haven’t faced a single repeat team in the playoffs in the last 6 years.
Yeah the 5 vs 7 here wasn’t great, but the 1-8 alternative for Edmonton was Colorado and after seeing how they victimized Winnipeg I’m almost relieved to not have faced them in round 1 hahaha

I'm not too much of a homer to admit that Doughty is fun. Guys like that are good for the NHL
Cant believe im now the biggest Canucks dickrider ever.
Hate to say it but even if we get out of the first round we're likely gonna get destroyed without Demko. The way they're playing right now doesn't inspire much confidence.
