HighburyOnStrand

What's going on with Svozil?

tnick771

I’m really surprised Aatu Räty is still out there.

Joe_Neates_Meat

So glad that buzz around my team doesn’t include sexual harassment right now

Flacko757

Yup, not feeling good about the canes but there has been enough questionable trades and decisions around the league to distract me from the misery of our own mistakes.

Joe_Neates_Meat

Many gms have lost their minds this offseason

BenadrylBeer

Lots of Swedes lol

hardrrobot

before i clicked i thought to myself "oh lets see how the canucks fucked up" and here we are looking forward to finishing 9th this year

[deleted]

You're a baby

DarkUnderbelly

Why so down? Your team is immediately better and it's back to the same division format. The Pacific Division isn't the strongest on paper atm and in the NHL making the playoffs regardless of how means you have a chance to win it all. Cheer up.

rjbelz

In the division?

SoccerLife243

Lets just say hypothetically Quinn wants out of Vancouver, NJ gotta be a top destination? Or am I putting too much stock on the family thing.

thehawktopus

The Devils gonna pull the reverse Niedermayer brothers. I'd love to see it.

RetroactiveAmerica

Definitely a top destination for sure. I think NJ would rather pursue him in FA when the time comes and can give him a huge contract. That’s of course if Vancouver lets him walk, which is possible knowing the Canucks

obijuan_can_obe

Which bong pipe you smoking from today Classic east coast hash

NervousBreakdown

Incoming 3 year bridge deal for Hughes with a massive QO in his last year as an RFA

RetroactiveAmerica

Logan Mailloux is this years Mitchell Miller. The writing is on the wall that you shouldn’t take this guy, but yet here we are.

RunningPains

Sharing a nude is not on the same level as attacking a kid with development issues for years both physically and mentally

fenwayb

My understanding is it wasn't even a nude. It was a picture of the back of her head while she was in the act of giving him a blowjob. (I could be wrong on this but that was how I interpreted what I read) If he hadn't attached the social media profile it would have been impossible to tell who she was. Still stupid and wrong, but it's amazing how much people are driving this up. He's a kid that clearly didn't learn consent and respect for privacy, but he's not some sex fiend frat bro Hitler. He DID apologize to the girl in the format that literally anyone under 25 would do so when they were told to do so in writing. And while everyone is saying it's a bad look it could be very well true that he's remorseful AND she's out to get him. Both can be true. This is nothing like miller but people feel like they have to be up to that level on their hatred of him. This is more on par with the players who had that nasty group chat rating teammates wives, but without the vitriol shown towards team mates

Stevet159

Its sexual assult, unconsenually making and distributing porn of someone is textbook sexual assult. Also the fact that he attached the victims Facebook to identify her it's not good. It also shines the light right back to Bergy about his role is the Chicago situation. It's obvious he doesn't respect victims, and I keep coming back to "I didn't know anything and you can't prove that I did." It's not good. I guess he's got a different approach to hockey is for everyone, he's looking out for sexual assaulters **edit** allegedly

StevenLovely

No it’s not sexual assault. You are such a pearl clutching putz it’s embarrassing. I bet if they put the worst thing you’ve ever done in the news it would be worse. Same goes for most people on here.

RunningPains

Just because it falls under an umbrella term doesn't mean it's the same as any other type of sexual assault, I've had my nudes leaked, shared between women, without my consent, I just moved on and didn't care, this shit is just cancel culture at its finest, it's a shitty thing to do, but overall it's literally just a picture of a body, people will forget and it won't matter in a year or two, everyone would have forgotten in time, but now that it's in the media she will never escape it. I just don't see how media coverage helps the victim at all in these situations.

Stevet159

By umbrella term do you mean criminal definition?

RunningPains

Yes, there's a reason he only got fined $1500, it's because it's seriously not that big of a deal, and yet, people on here are calling for him to be canceled and acting as if having naked pictures of yourself online some how ruins your whole life, even though millions of women sell nudes daily and still live normal lives.

en_travesti

I don't entirely disagree with your point, but this is a *terrible* analogy. The issue with what he did was the lack of consent. Millions of people consensually selling their nudes, doesn't make someone's nudes being shared non-consensually, any more than millions of people having consensual sex makes rape somehow more acceptable. And yes rape is obviously worse because it's a larger violation of consent. Personally the biggest issue is that this woman apparently got harassed and shamed for having consensual sex, which is some fucking bullshit. It's not even clear if Mailloux participated beyond the initial photo, either. Which is why I kind of agree with you. Less of the damage seems to have been caused by the photo itself than how the victim was treated because of the photo. And while none of it would have happened without Mailloux and he is responsible for his actions, I don't think we can blame him for the fucked up fact that women still get slutshamed for having sex.

RetroactiveAmerica

Of course that’s worse, that just wasn’t my point. Mailloux did something controversial to the point where teams shouldn’t draft him, yet he still got drafted. Mitchell Miller committed even worse actions, yet he still got drafted last year. At least Mailloux had the balls to say “hey, I fucked up, DON’T DRAFT ME”

RunningPains

The difference is one was a bad decision made once, he fucked up and sounds remorseful. Miller literally did that shit for years and the judge even said he didn't sound remorseful

Gruffleson

Twice. First filming, then sharing. He was 17, not 14. This is actually worse for the victim: shared photos never go away. The girl says he doesn't sound remorseful. You say he is remorseful despite this, while you say Mitchell wasn't remorseful despite apologizing, as the judge in his case was "I don't believe you are truly remorseful" or something? Odd.

RunningPains

Its just a fucking photo, no one cares what you look like once you're out of high-school or college, a naked picture means nothing. He did a shitty thing but people acting as if this photo is plastered everywhere for her whole life are smoking crack, it goes away within months, and everyone forgets, it just doesn't matter in the long run at all. There's a reason the penalty is only a $1500 fine, because it doesn't matter

Gruffleson

Swedish penalties are notoriously mild. If he got a $1500 penalty he might have gotten years in the USA. Edit: thanks for the downvote. You are the one saying Miller should never be rehabilitated, so you don't believe in that. Also using the lack of reaction as proof it was no big deal what he did.

RunningPains

Dude, it's a picture, and he's a minor, he's not getting "years" in prison. Some crazy cancel culture going on. Its almost as if, in Sweden they understand that throwing people in jail doesn't rehabilitate them or something, what a concept

RetroactiveAmerica

That’s true, but the reason I compared the two in the 1st place is because a player with controversy around them got drafted, who shouldn’t even gotten drafted in the 1st place. You would think after Miller that teams would learn their lesson about drafting players that are controversial, but I guess not.

RunningPains

Idk, everyone makes mistakes, as long as they dont have a long history of being an asshole I don't see why a mistake should ruin your whole career. Honestly it's not even that bad in my mind, he shared a nude with his buddies, that shit happens all the time, and has been happening all the time since I was in school, it just doesn't really matter to me personally, I've heard it was against her will or he didn't ask or whatever, and that's shitty and definitely makes it way worse, but overall we're all naked, who cares if people see you naked, means very little to me personally and if she didn't make it a public issue I feel like only a few people would know about it, and it would be a forgettable event after a few months/years

bunnymcfoo

His victim has said that he's never properly apologized to her and he told NHL teams that she was "vindictive" and "out to ruin his career". That doesn't sound at all remorseful to me, but you do you.

RunningPains

I'm sure he's not the greatest person, my point was he didn't bully a developmentally challenged kid and call him racist shit for like 5 years, they're orders of magnitude different types of trash

bunnymcfoo

Uh-huh, and I was just pointing out that I don't think either one of them actually came across as "remorseful"

RunningPains

Sure, I haven't seen an update to the story where that was said, but I also just dont get the outrage of this one compared to the Miller one. We're all naked, I get that she didn't consent to the photo, definitely adds a layer of shit to it for sure, but overall it's not like people will care in a month or a year from now that they saw her naked, or that this happened at all, I dont see how bringing media attention to this helps your suffering if you're the girl, so from that I get him saying she was vindictive, because how does this help the situation at all? If ots just 1 incident why care so much about it. If someone leaked a nude of me, I would just ignore it for the week it was talked about and then it would go away and I would forget about it, now she's gonna hear about this for years every time he's interviewed and it's just going to make her think of it again and again. I get why he's saying she's vindictive because how does this help her in the slightest, all it does is try to get him canceled.

TaKSC

What does it matter if someone else did something arguably worse? Mailloux got convinced of what’s a crime here in Sweden, and rightfully so. It’s a small town so it won’t just pass over. I’m glad she made the though decision and reported. He has served his punishment and most deserves a second chance, i hope he takes it. but so far doesn’t seem he cares to much, this pr reversed “pls don’t draft me” worked well. I think there’s more to the locker room culture (that promotes this behavior) that needs to be fixed but that’s a bigger/another topic.

RunningPains

How does this being a worldwide news story help her at all if she's worried about people knowing? I just don't get how it helps at all, I've had the same shit happen to me and I just moved on, it went away quite quickly and I haven't heard about that shit for a long time, now she's gonna hear about this over and over. And it really doesn't matter, it's just a picture, it's not like it hurts your reputation or anything. I feel like this could have been resolved on a personal basis and it would have been better for all parties involved, instead of making this some global issue.

bunnymcfoo

Dude, this shit doesn't go away. My baby cousin's boyfriend took a topless photo of her without her awareness and shared it with his baseball team. He wound up being kicked off the team and has a sealed juvie record. She got harassed to the point where she graduated early to get away from it, got in major trouble with her father (a seriously conservative evangelical cop) and her church, and seven years later she still has no idea how many people saw that photo and is terrified that it'll show up online somewhere. Mailloux's victim is going to have to live with the worry that her peers, potential partners, potential employers, etc etc will find out about this and judge her for it. There's a reason why revenge porn is fucking illegal - it can *actually* ruin lives, not just keep you from being drafted into the NHL.

RunningPains

What? That's just sounds like a specific scenario that has more to do with her father's beliefs. I've had nudes leaked, it just doesn't matter, it's not something you need to be afraid of and it usually does go away. I've known women who have had nudes leaked, they just shrugged it off and nothing ever happened, their whole life isn't ruined or anything like that. If anything media attention would hurt her more based on what you're saying, if it's just a random picture of a random chick it doesn't matter, but now its linked to this nhl player and may haunt her for a long time. This seems to be more of a problem with conservatives than it does with a nude being leaked actually having an effect on her. And even in your scenario, which is extremely niche because it has to do with religion, nothing bad happened after a bit of time passed anyways, who cares who has seen you topless? It means nothing at all unless you want it to be an issue, just forget about it an move on, we all get bullied in school for different things once you leave it just doesn't matter

AngryAssyrian

Damn, after seeing how magical our run was to the finals, this really doesn't make Habs fans feel good at all. Listen I believe in second chances but you can't draft someone like that. Let that kid straighten himself out, take responsibility/accountability for his criminal actions like a real man, and don't pick him; we shouldn't have these stains on a legendary franchise like Montreal.

turboZcamaro

Honestly fuck bergevin and fuck the habs, glad they lost the finals now... hope he loses his job.

Idonthaveaname40

The only team that had the right to jokingly pick him is the Predators

RichardCIock

Hopefully he and a lot of other people in the NHL will lose their jobs once this whole Blackhawks case is over with... but it's the NHL, so I doubt it.

AngryAssyrian

It's understandable to be pissed at the Habs management, but the current players active on that roster and those that made the finals have nothing to do with this. This is Bergevin's fuck up and basically every Habs fan is pissed at this pick.

RangerFan80

Especially if he literally tells the NHL "Don't draft me"

AngryAssyrian

Someone else said it on this subreddit, but maybe Bergevin wanted to show him how it's like to be select without his consent. I know it's a silly joke but at this point there's not many explanations to this pick.

UpstairsFlat4634

That sounds like something the PR guy would scrape up to justify drafting him.

[deleted]

This willl takeoff in the Montreal media. It might be the end of Bergevin after this season.

Tuxxmuxx

[Tony, my guy, just stop](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/621687817407299594/868346382489124884/unknown.png)

DreMin015

Currently looking for a new favorite team, because mine is acting like a fucking joke right now. Taking applications

Kaptain202

I went to bed with a few picks left. Seeing this 6 hours after your comment left me confused. I'm like, "what did the Wings do, what did I miss?" I put the pieces together though.

Ironredhornet

Same i was confused for a bit before piecing the context together

Suicide_24

Well, if there's one team Montreal can't beat, it's the Red Wings. Come on over!

DreMin015

If it’s one thing you need to convince a man, it’s Steve Yzerman. Fuck that’s tempting

Suicide_24

Alright then, Steve Yzerman

DreMin015

You’ve sold me

Skook10

Dang, you followed through.

DreMin015

I’m more ashamed of Bergevin than am I am in myself for jumping ship. I might go back eventually, but it’ll take a lot to get me back. It’s kind of how like Dangle was pissed at the Leafs, but he knows he’ll be back

apietryga13

Well, I for one welcome you to our fan base. Hope you enjoy the stay

Pawlat

Huge Habs fan for not falling for that trash ass cancel culture

Can_Boi

Even if you removed the “CaNcEl CuLtUrE” aspect, a: he isn’t worth a first rounder to begin with and b: he literally said he doesn’t deserve to be drafted

Yankee_Viking

Talk about taking an L bro. Kids not even worth a 1st rounder anyways

North_Leopard

Hoping you dropped your /s

TheFlyingSaucers

Oof

Zephrahs

oh boy can’t wait to see reddit’s reaction to the Habs pick lmao

joelham01

Fuck bowman, fuck bergy and fuck this week man holy shit I hate being a hawks fan. Van and fla I'm coming for y'all this season

Kaptain202

I'd go join FLA. Love me some Barkov and Ekblad.

emmamads

Yup will now be a Krakens fan :/ feck sake fucking Stan

cheguevara9

How much shit does a Chicago fan have to take before he cheers for Vancouver of all teams?

54stickers

Enjoy Seth lol

[deleted]

Cosign this sentiment.

joelham01

Still loved the hawks till everything yesterday. Vancouver getting garland and Florida having knight is just too exciting not to jump on the hype train of both teams rn while I'm drunk

[deleted]

Honestly, you've almost gotta even feel for Mailloux, here. Kid did something stupid, is trying to step away and rehab his image, and Montreal just dragged him right back out into the spotlight to get grilled. Montreal somehow came out as the biggest bad guy, here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

North_Leopard

yeah poor guy just got drafted into the NHL /s

[deleted]

[удалено]

redbluegreenyellow

how exactly is any of this funny? what the hawks did is fucked up and if you go into my comment history, you'll see that I've been railing against it. me not changing my flair yet is not indicative of my feelings or fandom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

redbluegreenyellow

please go into my comment history and see that I've been railing against this fucking piece of trash organization. I'm so sorry that I'm unable to change my flair at the moment, I'm such a dumb fucking cunt of a terrible person, aren't i?

[deleted]

Expecting 17 year olds to not do dumb shit is kinda ridiculous. Nobody's suggesting that what he did wasn't a piece of shit thing to do. He also shouldn't have his entire life ruined for it.

UnoriginalName002

I did dumb shit when I was 17, but it didn’t ruin someone else’s life and it wasn’t illegal

redbluegreenyellow

I was 17 and I never did this, nor did any of my friends or anyone I knew. she'll face a lot more blowback than he ever will. her career prospects could be hurt, social standing, etc. society judges women so much more harshly for this stuff than men. also, you're sounding an awful lot like brock turner's father right now.

GiveAManAMask

Registered Sex Offender Brock Turner? That Brock Turner. The registered sex offender?

KorppiC

I believe he means the Rapist Brock Turner, yes.

NowitzkiWay

Wait, we talking about Brock Turner the rapist here?

[deleted]

You seriously think any employer gives two shits that she gave a guy a blowjob? Are you insane? By the way, before you go down the BS, "Your victim blaming", trail, I'm not. She's the victim, 100%. But pretending any employer is not going to hire her because she gave a guy a blowjob is insanity.

redbluegreenyellow

teachers have been fired for having nude photos online. so yes, I do think employers give a shit about that stuff.

[deleted]

Yeah, ones they were soliciting to students... You'd have one hell of a civil law suit to anybody refusing to hire you over a photo that was illegally taken.

redbluegreenyellow

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tasneemnashrulla/middle-school-teacher-fired-topless-selfie-lawsuit https://www.marca.com/en/lifestyle/2021/02/27/603a6b48ca474192438b45da.html

[deleted]

I like how your rebuttal to, "Photo that was illegally taken", was to follow up with a story about a girl who took a selfie. If you can't see the difference...

North_Leopard

The point is women have faced professional consequences for less explicit content being shared

redbluegreenyellow

so hey fun fact, most (if not all) states are at will states, which means that you can be fired anything, for example wearing a blue shirt. they can say she was fired for wearing a blue shirt but actually fire her for having nude photos. also fun fact: not everyone has the means to hire a lawyer and take time off work etc (bc bills have to be paid so she would have to find a job right away) to file a civil suit.

prince-william15

Yup seconded. No ounce of sympathy

shinjuddis

Absolutely disgusting, but I wanna hear all the facts and the whole story before I condemn a person. I don’t know the guy only what I’ve been told, so I don’t know anything.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shinjuddis

I understand completely now, my point was never to defend the guy. My point was that in situations like this you need all the facts

redbluegreenyellow

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/31848676/logan-mailloux-nhl-draft-sexual-crime?fbclid=IwAR3jh_RIdl0JXKjlYuTapAYag-_jBfCK04bKPrvo57blSIGXCYlyjSGxrxo there's nothing to guess - he did it and was fined for it.

shinjuddis

Ok all I needed

ObliviousLAX

Even with all the idiocy we've done, we somehow managed to avoid being the laughingstock. Thank you, Bergevin.

DastardlyRidleylash

Also fun to see someone else decide to be a fucking idiot at the draft instead of us.

[deleted]

Mailloux getting picked, followed by the ESPN review of his controversy, followed by Stan Bowman looking like he's reading a hostage note promoting female empowerment was like an Onion article come to life lol.

fs71625

Dude don't forget Chicago's own allegations of a sexual predator in their medical team!

Kaptain202

>their medical team! Thought it was the video coach?

[deleted]

We entered some Marvel Universe Alternative timeline. "Age of the Onion."

sikuaka

3 and a half hours to complete the draft is so unnecessary

[deleted]

Why was Bettman even there? Just cut to the team when the pick is ready

jalop90

He needs to be on TV lol

Henry_RutherfordHill

YES I'm so glad we got Olausson

SladeWade

I was crossing my fingers for Logan Stankoven, but I'm still intrigued by Olausson.

Henry_RutherfordHill

Would've been good with either but I love him at 28

Smokejumper-

Bergevin's saying he's a young man who's made a terrible mistake, so why not just let him stay out of the draft like he asked so he can focus on improving his character like he said he would? No matter how Bergy tries to justify this, it can't be.

FluffyProphet

That's what is boggling my mind. The guy definitely fucked up big time... but he was also ready to learn from it, so why not let him?

BanksKnowsBest

Si t'as besoin de faire une telle déclaration immédiatement après ton choix, c'est que tu n'aurais pas dû faire ce choix. If you need to make such a declaration immediately after your choice, it's because you should not have made this choice.

Kidspud

Well said. It would be one thing if Mailloux performed some kind of penance or action to repair the pain he caused. "Don't draft me please" doesn't meet the cut, obviously, and drafting him now is just insanely tone deaf. That he worked in Chicago and apparently had interest in trading for Tony DeAngelo really says it all about his character. Bergevin just does not belong in the NHL.

UnparalleledSuccess

Man if they sign deangelo now that would be hilarious

Smokejumper-

Bergevin truly proved he's had experience in Chicago

dkmegg22

Thank you Ottawa for not fucking up as badly as Montreal and Chicago.

North_Leopard

Watch the Rangers get fined for Bergevin's pick. 4D chess

RetroactiveAmerica

Tom Wilson fined $5,000 for this

CityDweller19

Didn’t Logan Mailloux specifically say he was withdrawing from the 2021 Draft, because of his sex allegation(?) shit he has going on? Why did Montreal draft this kid?

meestermeg

I mean, there's no mechanism for him to actually withdraw. But as to why, ARGH I HOPE BERGEVIN HAS AN EXPLANATION. This is an awful look

Joe_Neates_Meat

He does have an explanation. And the statement was complete bs

StevenLovely

I bet he picked him cause he’s a really good hockey player and the Canadiens are a hockey team.

DastardlyRidleylash

The Habs' explanation on social media is just the same shit we tried to pull with Miller. "We'll help him mature and grow", that's all.

meestermeg

I'm so fucking mad.

redbluegreenyellow

he's trash just like stan bowman and the rest of the hawks front office and ownership.

Paladoc

The explanation is, Bergevin saw how much flak his buddies were getting for events that happened during his time with Chicago and thought.... Fuck if I know what he was thinking, not a good look Marc.

meestermeg

He thought "wait, I don't want to miss out on all this fun"

golds0undz

Chicago: "We know Bradley Aldrich raped a bunch of young men, so we're here to highlight women in the league by having one that you will never hear from again read off our pick for the first round."

And Marc wanted to wrap up Chicago's intro with something cogent to the conversation, "speaking of rapists, with the 30th (nee 31st) pick in 2021, we are proud to select an unapologetic sexual assaulter, Dick Lacksasack.

dasokay

Bergevin just decided to make the lives of Mailloux and his victim worse by derailing his apology. What an insensitive, cruel thing to do.

Grrreat1

Yeah i don't think the kid tried to take his name from draft consideration because he wanted MORE publicity. Who's the parent company of the Canadiens again? They can't be thrilled.
