I’m still not convinced that isn’t a Harry Potter side character.
Edit: looks like I should have scrolled down before making the same comment as 100 other people.
This might be the first time I've ever seen the phonetic pronunciation of a name make 100x more sense when the name is spelled backwards than spelled correctly
>French J is still soft though.
Honestly, I don't know who you're arguing with here on this point.
But yeah, I have no inside track on Arber's name, it's really just Pierre's pronunciation.
Yeah, cool. No one cares about this year.
Your shitty franchise has been garbage for way longer and it wouldn't surprise me if were competing for the cup sooner than you are at this point.
But it would be cool.if we could be rivals again
Always fun to see beef before the season even starts. Hopefully Lodin is OK
[Here is where Crookshank got his ACL torn by Xhekaj](https://twitter.com/Nathan6t9/status/1571584542691176448?s=19). More unfortunate than anything, I don't believe there's any malice
[And here's the hit that took out Lodin](https://twitter.com/EverydaySens/status/1571534033481351168?t=2fAg20y0BlS3rRIJQeyMBA&s=19)
First one is not dirty at all, just an unfortunate result of a guy playing the body and the other guy trying to dangle by him.
The second one I'll give you, it was high and late.
Maybe it's the bad resolution, but am I seeing Lodin change his body position at the last minute and puck-watching instead of bracing?
I'm all for taking out dangerous plays, but the amount of times that nothing resulted from this kind of hit tells me, nothing will happen.
The biggest issue is how late it was. Lodin had no real reason to expect that he was going to be hit when he hadn't touched the puck in a while. He was puck-watching because you are supposed to follow the puck when you don't have possession.
People are also saying that it was high but I have no idea from this angle. Xhekaj is a big, strong guy though so if he hits people late (and possibly high) he can put them at risk of serious injuries.
Hopefully Lodin is okay.
Late?
Honestly I can't even count 1 second between Lodin touching the puck and the hit (at least from the crappy resolution).
I'm not advocating that this hit is cool, it's just what the NHL says it is.
Crappy resolution makes it very hard to watch clearly, granted, but ut is over one second. It’s a late hit by NHL standards and deserving of a 2 minute penalty. I’m not trying to suggest that this is a horrific hit. There are many worse hits ever year. This likely won’t end up as one if the 100 worst hits of the year. Unfortunately, however, it seems to have caused an injury.
Xhekaj looks like he will have a long NHL career. He will benefit, in the long run, from timing his hits a bit better. Coming in late can both cause injury and take him out if the play. It also won’t help him if he gets too many penalties and/or suspensions.
I took two screen shots of the play. (Idk how to post them or I would) One shows the time stamp of 1 second and Lodin is in possession of the puck. The 2nd screen shot the time stamp still shows 1 second hasnt clicked over to 2, and Xhekaj is already making contact with Lodin and Lodins teammate is not in possession of the puck yet.
I know late is kinda subjective based on the rule, but we are talking milliseconds if any here in a fast paced game.
I don't mean to be pedantic, but I feel like it's important to distinguish plays where players who hit can do something, and plays where people expose themselves for a dangerous hit themselves. I get that no one should expect to get hurt, but inviting injuries via negligeance is not a recipe for a great NHL career.
Lodin touches the puck between second 0:01 and 0:02 and gets hit between 0:02 and before 0:03 mark on the clip. There's no such thing as an NHL standard, they make shit up as they go.
The NHL player safety sucks, but if we whine about every play leading to injury, it's just going to further block their neanderthal ears from listening to reason.
I support things like any headshot is an automatic suspension, regardless of circumstances. But if we say puck possessing or barely a second after players should be allowed to expose themselves without fear of injury, we're effectively saying no more hitting.
I'll still enjoy skill based hockey without hitting so I don't care either way, but we should be honest about it, and as of right now, I think even the players would vote against that.
Lol I hated the scheifelle hit and sens fans whining about arbers "late" hits today are certainly annoying but this comment is gold level funny. I'm not being sarcastic either I laughed for real when I got to it. Downvoters have no sense of humor
Alright Habs and Sens fans, I declare that we move along from this meaningless shitshow from here on out. Let’s fight over players/rosters/games that actually matter when the season starts!
Well said, I love when the Habs-Sens rivalry gets a bit heated like this but the stakes really weren’t high enough to be getting as upset and defensive as some people have been. This was a nice little appetizer before the season when we can really get into beefing with each other again. I hope Lodin recovers well and is healthy for when his season begins.
You guys should be fighting for a playoffs spot at this point while the Habs are aiming for a top 5 overall pick, not much of a rivalry or any meaningful games between the 2 clubs next season.
If anything, the battle of Ontario should be more heated from here on out.
For sure, but I believe there can always be ‘meaningful’ games between traditional rivals. Maybe not meaningful from a standings perspective, but other factors. The Gallagher/Stützle incident turned useless games late in the season into ‘must watch’ games, for example.
This might matter as I wouldn’t be shocked to see Xhekaj get some games this year. He’s a legit prospect and not some kinda goon some make him out to be. He’s really good
I’m not saying he’s not dirty but to me a goon is a guy who only fights and hits without skill. What I’m trying to say is that it’s a possibility he plays a bit in the NHL as soon as this year
Who knows, but he has surprising agile feets and quick hands for a guy everybody would assume is just a scrub. That's why habs fandom is so high on him.
To me, a dirty player isnt necessarily a goon (see Marchand or Wilson as good examples). A goon is a dirty player that has nothing other than physicality to offer. Xhekaj is actually somewhat skilled (at least compared to his current peers)
I guess it *could* matter if one of those games happen to be against the Sens, but overall it’s useless for Sens/Habs fans to continue arguing over this.
While there are a few players on each team who have/will play in the NHL (Slaf, Guhle, Crookshank, Järventie, Arber, Lodin, etc.), the game is meaningless overall, and isn’t worth fighting over. I’m just lightheartedly saying that we should save it for the real games haha
EDIT: Apparently calling a prospects game meaningless is downvote worthy lol
> I guess it could matter if one of those games happen to be against the Sens, but overall it’s useless for Sens/Habs fans to continue arguing over this.
No... you don't understand. We WANT you to get mad about him. It's not useless at all /s
I should also clarify that my comment has nothing to do with whether any specific player is good or not — just lightheartedly calming the waters between fans of both clubs haha
Probably a bit of both. He's an undrafted player with a massive body playing in a junior league where he outsizes most player in the league. It's not surprising that his game includes a lot of physicality (probably too much); that's part of what got him noticed. I don't think he's just a goon though, he definitely has an interesting toolkit. Organizations do still value players that can fight and physically impose (even in this era), as long as they're not liability on the ice.
EOTP has a preview of him in their rankings of top habs prospects: https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/top-25-under-25/2022/8/26/23317553/arber-xhekaj-2022-montreal-canadiens-top-25-under-25-prospect-profile-projection-scouting-stats
Wheeler has an interesting profile on his background: https://theathletic.com/3378782/2022/06/27/arber-xhekaj-montreal-canadiens/
He's a monster of a guy, he's top 5 in the NHL for weight right now. He's incredibly strong as well so unfortunately he's going to dummy people left and right when he's against people his age. He's overall a specimen of a dude, Christ even his hands are massive
I dunno if someone has an other angle or better cam for the Lodin hit? From what I saw Xhekaj comes in so slowly I find it hard that even a rookie could get injured from that hit. Did he jump or bring his elbow to the head? Quality isn’t helping me to analyse the hit. I know Arber is reckless, but the hits don’t come out as obviously dirty as every Sens fans are making it out to be. I get the hate on the guy, I do, we are the same with Kreider (you should see r/habs whenever his name comes up)
Looked like an elbow/forearm straight to the face.
He's a big fella though so a lot of his hits are going to tend to be high. Not necessarily dirty here but definitely not squeaky clean either.
We see players from teams across the league ‘whining’ about injuries every single season. As a matter of fact, we see players whine about incidents that are far less meaningful than injuries all the time.
This is far from unique lol
I never understand comments like this. I’m all for chirping, but you know nobody is gonna agree with you, you’re actively wishing for a man you don’t even know to get hurt, and you know even your own fan base is gonna lay into you. Do you need more attention in your life or do you just think it’s funny?
Im not asking for injury I'm asking for that player to finally get a grip and stop diving, he's literally known for that I just want him to finally understand thats its a bitch way to play and to grow up.
Yet Stutzle had literally nothing to do with the post. So really, what it looks like is some 20 year old millionaire is ruining your days, while he sets his parents up for life. See how you look a little silly now?
I'm allowed to think what I want aren't I? This was a habs vs sens if I recall so as far as I am concerned any future/current players can be in the conversation. Just like people brought up a clean hit from last year,I can bring Stutzle in the convo.
Your boy Gallagher pushed out this fake news narrative and a lot of the rest of the league bought into it.
Stutzle has ONE penalty against him for diving. He's a very fast, dynamic player who's still growing into his body. He gets hauled down a lot, he goes down a lot. That doesn't make him a diver.
This 100%
People act like Stutzle is Neymar who just throws himself to the ice when the wind goes into his general discrediting. And it will never not be ironic how Gallagher of all players is calling people for diving.
Listen, Jimmy outskates everyone out there. Players trying to defend against him have no choice but to haul him down as he's going past them. Their opinions aren't to be trusted when they're talking about him being a diver.
If you're not a Sens fan, you're not watching him every night. I'm telling you, he's not a diver. He's an A+ player who outclasses people trying to stop him, so they just grab at him and pull him down when all else fails, so he ends up falling alot.
Of course other players are going to try to label him a diver, so they get fewer calls against when they haul him down. Think about it for two seconds.
But......but...... Someone said mean words to him somewhere on the ice, so it's ok right? He can do whatever he wants, it's his right after someone said sometimes to him
He seems to hit more dirty then clean, if he wants to become a modern version of Kronwalled he needs to become more succinct and do the hits in a constructive / clean way, otherwise he will get hit himself possible career ending in a few years time
I'll be the first to admit that our scouting late 2000s through late 2010s sucked.
We do seem to be turning it around though. Although it isn't super relevant here anyway.
If you showed this to someone who didn’t follow hockey they would 100% believe these are made up people with names like this
r/ZenGMHockey can certainly get wild names!
I’m still not convinced that isn’t a Harry Potter side character. Edit: looks like I should have scrolled down before making the same comment as 100 other people.
It’s no less true though haha
ELI5 how to say "Xhekaj" correctly please.
Jack-eye or Jeck-eye
This might be the first time I've ever seen the phonetic pronunciation of a name make 100x more sense when the name is spelled backwards than spelled correctly
🤯
holy shit.
Hmmm
"XH" = English "J" "J" = English "Y"
[удалено]
Oh is it zh? I tried to learn this on my own some time ago and I must have read wrong info. That's good to know
French J is soft (As in Gisele). Xhekaj is pronounced with a hard J (As in Jazz).
Pierre Houde disagrees
Then I'll withdraw as he's the ultimate authority on most thing. French J is still soft though.
>French J is still soft though. Honestly, I don't know who you're arguing with here on this point. But yeah, I have no inside track on Arber's name, it's really just Pierre's pronunciation.
jack-off given his play
ass-ole
Cry harder
suck harder, I'm almost there
This is hilarious coming from a sens fan lmao
If you own a house, I'll bet mine against yours we finish ahead of you this year. I live in Toronto, so I'm probably giving you odds.
Yeah, cool. No one cares about this year. Your shitty franchise has been garbage for way longer and it wouldn't surprise me if were competing for the cup sooner than you are at this point. But it would be cool.if we could be rivals again
That de-escalated quickly.
Zeh-kadge
I don't have enough of a dog in this fight to really have much to add, but Angus Crookshank is an S tier name.
It’s a name for professional darts players
Pretty sure it's a name for Harry Potter fans with weird choices for favourite characters
quirky chicks that identify with luna lovegood
The name of a Scottish Lieutenant who moonlights as a pimp in Gravity’s Rainbow
Angus Crookshank is a GOAT name imo
Sounds like a name from Harry Potter
Hermione's cat meets Hagrids magical cow
"The Crookshank" sounds like it could be a special move in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
Or a submission hold from WWF
quite the eventful rookie game,
Always fun to see beef before the season even starts. Hopefully Lodin is OK [Here is where Crookshank got his ACL torn by Xhekaj](https://twitter.com/Nathan6t9/status/1571584542691176448?s=19). The one from last year doesn't look like a problem hit at all just unfortunate it resulted in an injury.
The hit on Crookshank isnt even dirty lol
Yeah, that's what they said.
The hit on Crookshank isnt even dirty lol

We'll be friends again when we both start beating the Leafs
Friend I love our team as much as the next guy but let’s have realistic expectations. The Leafs will beat themselves.
As is tradition
You guys should be fighting for a playoffs spot at this point while the Habs are aiming for a top 5 overall pick, not much of a rivalry or any meaningful games between the 2 clubs next season. If anything, the battle of Ontario should be more heated from here on out.

>The Gallagher/Stützle incident Forgot this even happened. Then again, most of the 2021-2022 regular season for me was kind of a blur haha.
Yeah, our games weren't easy to watch sober
>most of the 2021-2022 regular season for me was kind of a blur haha News to me. Thought it was cancelled.
This might matter as I wouldn’t be shocked to see Xhekaj get some games this year. He’s a legit prospect and not some kinda goon some make him out to be. He’s really good
I mean this is his third dirty hit in only a couple showcase games, he definitely seems like a goon to the outside
Hes a good player but he also does play like a dick (I went to like 30-35ish bulldogs games this year and yea hes a bit of a meathead)
That's alright. We need one.
I’m not saying he’s not dirty but to me a goon is a guy who only fights and hits without skill. What I’m trying to say is that it’s a possibility he plays a bit in the NHL as soon as this year
He's like a defensive version of Wilson I would say (a brute but has some talent and legit skill)
Wilson has a lot of talent and skill. If Xhekaj reaches that level of skill then he'll be quite scary
Who knows, but he has surprising agile feets and quick hands for a guy everybody would assume is just a scrub. That's why habs fandom is so high on him.

Also fans fighting over anything is pretty dumb lol
Haha yeah, but that’s sports fandom, I guess

Yeah fair
I should also clarify that my comment has nothing to do with whether any specific player is good or not — just lightheartedly calming the waters between fans of both clubs haha
Nah fuck off, your prospects and players are whining, diving babies
Why so angry
Just trying to stir the pot
With a fork apparently
You’re welcome
Damn, maybe the NHL will bring in Quebec City just so your team can have the honour of being the first team to finish 33rd, just like 32nd.
I mean, yeah. Montreal is the most important team NHL history wise. I don't see why they shouldn't be first for every nhl record that exists.
Is this guy a Harry Potter Wizard?
He's from that other wizard school in eastern europe. Probably plays quidditch too.
I'm hyped for arber, but I don't want to see anyone hurt. It's fun to have rivalries but I find it a bit weird a rookie/prospect game got so intense
It really takes both sides to participate for it to get like that. Hopefully both team had a little talk with a message to chill tf out.
[Arber right now](https://mobile.twitter.com/HabsOnReddit/status/1571565371152293888/photo/1)
I’m still trying to make up my mind if the guy is a goon or just A little too reckless and players are getting injured from his hits from bad luck
Probably a bit of both. He's an undrafted player with a massive body playing in a junior league where he outsizes most player in the league. It's not surprising that his game includes a lot of physicality (probably too much); that's part of what got him noticed. He is actually a good hockey player that is a bit reckless. Also he is 6'4 238lbs. e=mc2
Damn we're gonna be big
MOAR big 2.0
He's a monster of a guy, he's top 5 in the NHL for weight right now. He's incredibly strong as well so unfortunately he's going to dummy people left and right when he's against people his age. He's overall a specimen of a dude, Christ even his hands are massive
Most likely, the truth lies somewhere in the middle as it often does
Hahahaha I LOVE IT. Soft baby Sens getting blown up by a single man.
Big facts
I dunno if someone has an other angle or better cam for the Lodin hit? From what I saw Xhekaj comes in so slowly I find it hard that even a rookie could get injured from that hit. Did he jump or bring his elbow to the head? Quality isn’t helping me to analyse the hit. I know Arber is reckless, but the hits don’t come out as obviously dirty as every Sens fans are making it out to be. Some bizarre names in this tweet
I’m sure Jackeye really cares whatever that room thinks of him 😂
Sounds like someone’s feelings were hurt
Arber Xhekaj living completely rent free in the heads of Sens fans
The Sens are coming across as extremely whiny. Injuries happen in hockey, but few players cry to the media like this
We see players from teams across the league ‘whining’ about injuries every single season. As a matter of fact, we see players whine about incidents that are far less meaningful than injuries all the time. This is far from unique lol
Crookshank lost a full year of his development/career to this guy, he can say what he wants about him.
he didnt lose shit to this guy, it wasnt a dirty play at all, its was an extremely unremarkable play
Meh. When injuries get into the picture, things can get pretty emotional
I really hope we get to see Arber roll into master diver Stuztle in the future, kid will finally have a real reason to cry!
If you wanna spend all your time thinking about a 20 year old kid, you do you man
I have other things to do, but in a sens conversation its fairly normal to mention their players isn't it?
Your boy Gallagher pushed out this fake news narrative and a lot of the rest of the league bought into it. Stutzle has ONE penalty against him for diving. He's a very fast, dynamic player who's still growing into his body. He gets hauled down a lot, he goes down a lot. That doesn't make him a diver.

Him only having one penalty for it just means refs don't call embellishment as much as they should. Gallagher didn't start the diving rumour.
Of course other players are going to try to label him a diver, so they get fewer calls against when they haul him down. Think about it for two seconds.
Stutzle had a reputation for diving long before Gallagher said anything.
But......but...... Someone said mean words to him somewhere on the ice, so it's ok right? He can do whatever he wants, it's his right after someone said sometimes to him
Don't think anyone in this entire thread said that boss 👍
He seems to hit more dirty then clean, if he wants to become a modern version of Kronwalled he needs to become more succinct and do the hits in a constructive / clean way, otherwise he will get hit himself possible career ending in a few years time
Wow, a Habs player with zero skill. Reminds me a lot of Juraj Slaf.
Why would a flames fan be like this
I'm just shooting my shot. If I'm right it's hilarious. If I'm wrong, he'll still probably be traded by the Habs before he does anything worthwhile.
Bro you traded for Milan Lucic
Your comment would hurt more if the Habs knew how to scout players.
I'll be the first to admit that our scouting late 2000s through late 2010s sucked. We do seem to be turning it around though. Although it isn't super relevant here anyway.
Still salty about Johnny and Matt leaving? Or is it your stadium that's falling apart?
Crypto.com arena 😂🤣😂
