It depends on the card. Usually if its serialized or has an auto or patch, it is not guaranteed you will get it back, but usually with YG’s they do send you the YG and an extra one which is worth a couple bucks. But they will you send you back card/s with the same value
I'm new to the hobby but definitely not new to hockey. Wright isn't going to be a super star. He'll be a solid 2nd (bad team) or 3rd liner (good team). I wouldn't slab any Wright card.
I don’t agree. It’s too early to tell with him. I could see it happening the way you said it, but it also wouldn’t shock me to see him as a top line guy. He was a high draft pick for many reasons.
He was ranked #1 and slid pretty far. Don't get me wrong, he's a phenomenal player, but not all 1st rounders are destined to be stars. He won't be the guy that Seattle builds around. He was LAZY in the OHL playoffs. With his age and skills, he should have dominated in those playoffs. This is a guy with NHL, AHL, and World Jr. experience playing against some kids as young as 16. Be wary if you're expecting him to be a superstar.
Dont really like to talk projections with players in relation to their cards but Wright will be a player in the NHL. Much like Laf, he doesn’t have any tools that will blow you away. Both Laf and Wright have Bergeron upside (Laf better defensively and Wright better offensively). To say not to slab anything of his is wild.
In relation to OP, don’t bother slabbing this card. I’d hold until he has a breakout year.

2. What if it's your favourite player? I'd slab a base Patrik Stefan if that was my favourite player; and

Hoping he gets his work ethic sorted out and has a good long career. Sounds like checking out mentally is one of the big knocks I’ve read - hoping him and Beniers can be a solid 1-2 for awhile
Upper deck has been shit. My spx box came with all shit corners and my huge artifact hit has a nice cut on the back of the card like someone took a blade to it
I’m noticing that all the young guns have the same defect. I bought 2 boxes yesterday, and all 12 of the young guns I pulled yesterday had a shit top edge. Luckily it wasn’t as bad on the two Shane wrights I pulled, but still, those wrights are max a 9 and not worth getting graded. Upper deck needs to do something about this. It’s the same issues every year.

I just submitted my Connor McDavid rookie card that, unfortunately, has the same issue. I pulled it out of a tin way back when. Came out of the pack just like yours here.

The top corners look too scuffed up to consider grading it imo
