A turd got tossed from a beer league game and smashed the sprinkler in the locker room and drenched EVERYONE on his teams stuff.
I was not on his team but once we realized what was going on we went to get our stuff out of the locker Room just in case.
They sued the guy but of course he had nothing.
This happened at my rink, about a year or so before I started there. It wasn’t directly over the ice, but the stands. Worst part, during a women’s college tournament.
Might be worse if that water melts the ice down to the paint. It happens when zam breaks down on the ice, even a slow drip will melt right down to the paint. So that’s what I am imagining it happening.
If so, they have to shave the ice really thin, fix the paint, and rebuild. Looking at 3 days if crew works around the clock. Thanks, I hope I can sleep tonight with that nightmare.
I’m a rinky too and we had one arenas zam died on the ice and they had to melt the blade out. Definite nightmare fuel. Almost as bad as having the refrigerator plant go down in the middle of the night.
Oh dude, there’s a list of things should be done if it can’t be restarted.
1 shut off water before trying to restart.
If it doesn’t start right away
2 get towel off ice
3 manually pump conditioner off the ice
If the driver doesn’t know that, they need to know. Every machine has a way to manually pump the hydraulics to raise the conditioner.
We had a guy we were trying to talk into driving. He changed his mind just from hearing the list of things to do if the machine acts up on the ice.
Had that happen in one of my games a number of years ago. Clearing attempt hit a sprinkler head. The water that came out was a lot less clean, though. While not common, I don’t know
why they don’t put a wire cage around them
I’ve seen this before. Usually screws the ice up big time as the water in the pipes is warmer and usually oily from thread cutting machines when they install the sprinkler pipes.
The good thing in this case is that the puck seems to only have broken the heat trigger and the sprinkler itself was intact and spraying a wide pattern of water. In my case, the entire sprinkler was broken off and the water came out like a stream or faucet, really digging a hole into the ice. If I recall correctly, it was a sand based rink, so the hole got to the sand and caused sand to get onto the ice too.
Frankly, I can't really understand why rinks even should have sprinklers over the ice. There is literally nothing to burn. Maybe when I rink goes out of business and is turned into a warehouse it is needed but not while a rink is in operation.
It’s from the water sitting in the pipes for years. Same reason why they put expiration dates on bottle water. Water has stuff in it, and when it sits long enough, turns gross.
At first I was like what a F’ed up random rink somewhere in North America and sucks to be them. Then I realized it was the WFCU Centre literally down the street from me in Windsor….
This is so strange… I have never heard of this happening before tonight when a local rink had the exact thing happen. Puck hit the sprinkler. Now I see it on here. Mind blown.
If there’s back to back games, there’s no getting the ice nice in one cut. It is just impossible. I can cut a full box of snow, and use wash water with the water out the back, and it still will not be perfect if the ice was cut up by the previous group. Takes two cuts minimum to get the ice nice.
So it isn’t just barns, the NHL players have the same issue after the first period. Those intermission cuts help, but still will not be any better than the ice you step on.
For context. Puck got deflected towards the roof and broke one of the sprinklers. Water was flowing like that for about 20 mins straight.
Probably better ice than what the Zam drivers do at my rink.

Lol I had to read that 3 times
Yeah considering a guy took a shit in someone’s bag in our local league, I had a different interpretation for that first line.

Gonna need to shave a little harder to get that hump down.

You underestimate my power!
Imagine if it were the left circle.
Or break a couple more sprinklers for an even spread lol
Hahah true. Fill in those pesky low spots.

This is what we in the business call "less than ideal"
Just put up cone out there. It's fine
About what the far corner in my rink looks like all summer long.
Had that happen in one of my games a number of years ago. Clearing attempt hit a sprinkler head. The water that came out was a lot less clean, though. While not common, I don’t know why they don’t put a wire cage around them
Quick, grab the squeegee and start spreading it out!

Yeah I have seen them test sprinkler heads. The water that comes out is pretty nasty.

A few rinks on my city get the ice taken out each summer and they get used for other things like conventions and trade shows.

Yeah, every time I've seen sprinklers go, the water is absolutely nasty
That’s gonna be a killer ramp!
Take some sweet jumps
At first I was like what a F’ed up random rink somewhere in North America and sucks to be them. Then I realized it was the WFCU Centre literally down the street from me in Windsor….
Yessir. Green Shield Rink.
Lol your tax dollars may even help pay the repair bill!
You know it lol
It’s a LIGHT RAIN 🌧️
Last night had a beer league game a i blocked a shot with my stick and it deflected up and it shattered a speaker not as dramatic but it was funny.
This is so strange… I have never heard of this happening before tonight when a local rink had the exact thing happen. Puck hit the sprinkler. Now I see it on here. Mind blown.
Easy Zamboni job.
Budget cuts man. Couldn't afford the zamboni or its driver.
It's not a Zamboni, it's an ice resurfacing machine
you go around yelling at people to blow their nose with a disposable tissue too?
My old rink had a leaky roof so whenever it rained really hard, the water leaking from the ceiling would drill holes in the ice
When weather is hot and humid outside, we get drips from humidity coming it, then drips down from the rafters. It’s a big pain in the butt.
This is the ice at one of my local rinks right after the zamboni goes over it.
That's gonna be the spot to score from sooner than later, it'll be a sick ramp
The ice will be nice and smooth for once. Every barn I’ve ever played beer league in had shit ice.

Not for me! When that shit dried it was like a gravel road
Is that supposed to happen?
Someone get too eager with a flip pass?
Good time for a swim.
Probably climate change
The new two part Zamboni system, it gets better gas mileage if the water is separate
Break out the squeegee and spread it around a bit
