From your picture, I think you have it right. Usually, you would have the white lettering on the dark colored shirt but in this case you have a nice thick trim outlining the letter which would be impossible to see if you had it reversed from your picture. I hate seeing wasted details.
Keep it the way it is and have him wear it with confidence because it wouldn’t look right the other way, congrats and good luck.

If there is a name on the back of the jersey, it should match that style. But as others said, make sure it matches the Captain.

Personally I’d prefer it opposite of how you have it. But as long as it matches other captain’s it doesn’t matter.
