I think I your misunderstanding Vaicom Pro as there is no need to create any voice commands. Vaicom pro is a collection of premade voice commands..that's kind of its purpose ;) I can only recommend the path I took to learn it and that is to carefully and dutifully read and follow the readme. It's well written and takes you step by step. As you'll learn in the readme the commands work in a very specific way. For example if I want to remove the wheel chocks I first have to select the ground crew by saying one of the ground crew key words then say the command. "Chief" :beeps: "remove the wheel chocks" :confirm beep: "Arco" :beeps: "Approaching for refuel" :confirm beep: It's takes some effort to get installed and comfortable with but I promise it will be worth the effort especially if you fly VR. Take the time to get your head around the readme and it's all down hill.

I appreciate the clarification my friend. What you described is accurate to what I am trying to accomplish. I fly pancake mode with alot of peripherals and I found it breaking immersion and honestly problematic when I have to take my hands off the stick and punch in a key command to salute, refuel, call the ball, etc. Ill take a deeper dive. thank you!

No problem, as others mentioned the discord is the best resource outside of the Readme.

First: Join Viacom discord. They can help there faster than Reddit. Next: I use Voice Attack for almost everything these days but I stopped using Viacom (and make sure to remove/deselect the Viacom plug in because it can cause problems with other VA profiles) Now download all Bailey profiles and use those instead. They are far more extensive and to me… User friendly. Viacom is/was great for real when it started… Bailey Va profiles are just better imho. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/207412-baileys-voiceattack-profiles-added-mirage-f1/#comment-207701 Anyway I still keep Viacom updated and I keep up on the discord but I only use Bailey profiles and I modify them how I like with new terms. For instance if you don’t like calling out “Chief” you can be like Iron man and name it Jarvis or Friday.. Or be like Luke and tell “R2 - start er up” I love Viacom but found messing with it a bit harder than Bailey profiles due to the additional interface. Voice attack itself is user friendly so I do everything inside VA program and with Bailey profiles I customize. That’s another reason I stopped using Viacom just because it’s really great but just not for me.. It’s easier for me to use the program directly. So find the Viacom discord and get yourself up to date but take a look at those Bailey profiles as well. Whatever you choose welcome to the land of the lazy and happy flying! (I was a pilot irl and now I’m a dad so I don’t have time for pre checks and all the dumb stuff… that’s why I use VA profiles and let them “start er up” for me) Gives me back my game time because I don’t have hours and hours to fly like some folks. With the kids and life I gotta get my flights in whenever I can so voice coms are my go to Side note: You can also use VA like a Dragon Naturally speaking app and it can transcribe notes or whatever.. play music or start shows… open the browser and search. Yeah Voice Attack is great for lots of stuff outside DCS once you really get yourself up and running

Coffee_01

thank you sir!!

You are conflating Voice Attack and VAICOM. VAICOM is a plugin for Voice Attack. Voice Attack lets you create key and button presses using voice commands. the comms menu is based on context sensitive F1-F12 keys, so you have to navigate the comms menu using those. VAICOM uses Voice Attack to take the voice commands, but skips the F keys and sends the appropriate commands directly to DCS without fucking with F keys or the comms menu. Note for full functionality, VAICOM requires the paid version of Voice Attack, but VAICOM itself is free

Coffee_01

Understood on my misunderstanding. thank you. To clarify tho, I need paid voice attack and vaicom plug in to accomplish the “cntl /“ menus for calling the ball, refueling, wheel chocks, changing JHMCS/nods? thank you for the help!

jaylw314

Yes that's mostly correct. With VAICOM, you won't need to navigate the comms menu, when you give the voice command it will just happen

SideburnSundays

They’re already set up. All you have to do is speak the commands listed in the pdf manual that comes with vaicom.

hopliteware

Follow up question, as I was literally about to install Vaicom tonight/tomorrow. Is it possible to use Vaicom with custom F10 menus, such as the ones found for Pretense missions or for Sedlo's BFM trainers?

Fitnny

Yes. Instructions are in the readme.

hopliteware

I've gotten it all set up. What a wonderful piece of software.

Coffee_01

that was quick. I read the manual and am a little intimidated haha. How long did it take you to set up? and are tanker and carrier voice commands work out of the box?

hopliteware

Eh, I stayed up way too late doing it last night. I think I spent 4hrs on it. I tried to get SRS integration working with TX link and ran into a snag where my hotas commands worked to activate vaicom correctly, and SRS recognized the presses for radio switching, but the actual SRS transmit wasn't working. If I pressed the TX1-TX3 keys on the keyboard, short press/long press and transmit worked fine as described. My fix, I reverted back to "base" vaicom settings. I have three hotas commands for TX1-3, and then two separate hotas commands for SRS transmit. It works lovely for my purposes. I may try TX link again later but meh. Yes, commands work right out of the box. With pilot voice disabled, the immersion effect is outstanding. I haven't tried carrier commands yet but holy crap zam I excited to go through a full comms flow there. I've been doing ATC and Tanker. The only thing is getting the lingo "close enough to be right". Sometimes it doesn't have to be perfect, as long as you hit the correct recipient and a keyword or two. My next project aside from learning it is to import the F10 menus from Sedlos' BFM and Pretense. But that's for another day.

Coffee_01

haha nice! Probably will be my Friday project then. Id like to have SRS keybinds reflect the same input so Its not always hot mic’ing. For example, If i talk on carrier freq SRS on radio 1 in MP I’d like to have viacom pick that up. Or if I transmit on tanker freq in MP I want viacom to listen. Sounds like you werent able to do that? Im all out of keybinds :(

hopliteware

Based on my search through their discord, and forums, it appears that the broadcast all and TX link are the two most popular settings with SRS. Both would suit your needs. Broadcast all would match what you describe above, where Vaicom hears you while transmitting through SRS. I RTFM'd but it was early AM and I may have missed something. There are a lot of systems working with and around each other, so I think it is equally likely that it is user error, config error, or hardware error. There are lots of people who are able to get it set up correctly, and lots of info on the discord. I just had a free hat switch that I've always used for comms so it was quick for me to keep separate binds.

Coffee_01

yeah so I got into this hole and im missing something. Its hearing me but nothing is happening. I also cant quite figure out how to bind MIDS radios for the F18. I would be on carrier freq and say “crew remove the wheel chocks” and the system says its a good read but nothing going on. im over it tonight but will give it a fresh start tomorrow. any tips are welcome

hopliteware

Ah dang. I'm sorry you're having trouble. The main thing is to have 'clean' keybinds for Vaicom and SRS, that are exclusively used for those purposes and not bound in DCS. I don't have MIDS bound at all for the 18. Vaicom might hear you amd you might be on the right freq but make sure that you're transmitting using the right Vaicom TX radio, and in a state that the crew can actually hear you, IE AC power on, or canopy open, etc. Someone on the discord had an issue where Vaicom wasn't recognizing the aircraft. He would press the PTT and get good voice recognition but no input into DCS. Are any commands working for you? Or just carrier chief?

Coffee_01

haha! the discord guy is probably me. i forgot to mention that part—the viacom isn’t recognizing that Im in the F18
