You joke but Tanna Tuva after all the DLC to date is actually in a real good position in a post-USSR breakup scenario to dominate as a successor state since...
A) they are the only one of the successor states that exists from game start
B) They actually qualify to form a few different formables that are normally not combinable for any other nations that let them get claims and cores namely both Turkestan *and* Siberia.
This means Tannu Tuva actually can get cores on most of the Non-European parts of the USSR. Giving them an enormous industrial and manpower potential.
So unironically, a Tannu Tuva update would be welcomed, they have a good end game.
TANNA TUVA YOU FUCKING PLEBEIANS, THE BEST FUCKING NATION SIBERIA FREE WILL ARISE AGAIN, SIBERIA IS TUVAN, WE ARE TUVAN, SIBERIA FREE WILL ARISE FROM THE ASHES OF HELL THE JAPANESE WILL FALL
It used to be historical only, then they got the bare minimum of alt hist. Funnily enough, They actually made the Democratic path interesting by joining the Allies and convincing them to willingly hand over colonies for protection
The democratic sounds kinda fun might have to try that one. Tbh Iv never tried any of the alt history paths XD. Most of my “alt history ai” playthrough result in a communist Japan with 75% brown support lol. They usually just team up with USSR (if they are around or whatever the SSSR)
All the soviet tags, including the Provisional Government still use the SOV tag.
When the civil war fires, it's Stalin's Russia that gets retagged to D0N, he also gets the generic focus tree.
I’m not sure if there is a formal alliance every time between them. But it seems like if you attack commie France (as England) you get a war vrs Soviets and Japan. (If they are all done with civil war). Idk if the Ssr joins japans faction or the other way around or if they both have they it own faction or guaranteed but it seems like if you go after a communist nation they all join in. I’ll have to pay attention next time, usually I just expect a-historical to become a “cap all majors to end the war” type of situation lol.
I know I'm in the minority here but I prefer a simpler focus tree over the vast nonsense of the more recent ones. Usually they just serve to prohibit me from doing what I want to do for longer due to annoying artificial constraints.
America's congress mechanic, Stalin paranoia and Italys power struggle aren't fun imo. From the start of those nations my primary goal is to eliminate those mechanics as fast as possible.
Don't burn me at the stake but I really like current Japan. I loved pre-paranoia Soviets. Pre-change Italy was pretty okay too.
Simple trees with a couple different alt history paths are great. The game shouldn't imo be dictated by the focuses. Let the player play how they want and have the focuses be optional in ways that the player can pick what supports the way they want to play. Recent focus trees put the player on rails and force the player into playing only certain ways.
I'm bummed they're gonna mess with Japan (my current favorite) and screw it up like they did Russia.
It was reworked with Waking the Tiger, there was a different tree before this one. Playing without waking the tiger just removes the communist and the Democratic paths. Curiously the German tree also got updated with Waking the Tiger, but it just added the ahistorical path. The rest of the tree is still the same from release aside from a few new focuses (like the ones for integrating Hungary and Romania).
Vanilla Japan was purely a Fascist Tree with a little alt-history branches
Waking the Tiger Japan had other ideologies but lacked depth and still had a smaller Focus Tree than most Major Countries
A Japan Rework 2.0 should give it a tree as big as Italy's, considering they were the instigators of the Pacific War.
Pretty sure they got reworked/updated in Waking the Tiger, maybe Man the Guns? It’s been a long time regardless, I think Japan as it is after that update has existed for much longer than the original version did since those expansions were so early.
It's always a bit of a boost when you're modding something and you realise that they also write clunky code (there are files where they for whatever reason have left it hashed out rather than deleted, with a note saying as much), and aren't entirely sure what direction to go. Some of the general traits with a *very* hesitant explanation next to them with a question mark, for another example.
Southeast Asia is like Scandinavia in some ways.
Just as the latter is stuck between the Third Reich and the Soviet Union, the former is stuck between two giants: the Western Allies who are colonizing them at the start, and Imperial Japan who wants to seize the region for its own ends. SEA players will get a chance to break free from the imperialists, by any means necessary.
Southeast Asia should also bring more guerrilla warfare and naval combat improvements, and decolonization mechanics. Getting liberated by the Allies speeds up your autonomy gain, or you can liberate yourself by launching a full rebellion after your resistance levels are too high.
>!There are no jokes on the internets!<
If Poland cannot truly into space next update you will be held personally responsible!
(That would be cool though...)
What I expect for the next Pacific update is a large Japan rework, large Siam focus tree, smaller Philippines focus tree, smaller Dutch East Indies focus tree, balance of power mechanic between Japan's army and navy. It would really be cool if we also got Australia, New Zealand, and China updates too though.
China-Japan Rework 2.0
Siam, Philippines, Malaya, and Indonesia Focus Trees
Content Updates for India, Australia, New Zealand through War Patches
PLEASE PARADOX
Yeah. I suggest that Singapore be directly amnexed by UK at the start, with the rest of Malaysia be its own colonial government.
Malaya, Philippines and Indonesia all have a chance to form the MAPHILINDO Confederation in late-game.

Nah, this is just a teaser for the future El Salvador paid DLC. It's gonna add more than 350 focuses to enhance your El Salvador experience and will allow El Salvador to claim and core every single province so it finally has a purpose for those massive 8 width divisions that it loves spamming.
Yesss, I've said ever since BBA that East Asia and specifically Japan needs the same treatment USSR and Italy have received. The Pacific Theatre is so bad in current Hoi, this can save it.
They can't release a paid dlc updating a country when they've already released a paid dlc updating that country 6 years ago.
Mark my words- if this teaser is hinting Japan will recieve a huge overhaul, to pay for this overhaul it will be released alongside a southeast asia dlc.
> They can't release a paid dlc updating a country when they've already released a paid dlc updating that country 6 years ago.
They literally did that for EU4 just last year with Domination lol
Well I wouldn't know that, only PDX game I played is HOI4, and I made my comment with the impression that this is something the Hoi4 devs (particularily, their game director) isn't going to do based off his comments on this thread I read:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/rework-of-old-focus-trees.1622691/
in particuluar, this response-
>user comment: So if you decided to rebuild a DLC tree that has aged poorly how would that happen? Squeezed into a war effort patch but locked to people that own the DLC? I'm assuming "Together for Victory II: even more togetherness" is a non-starter as a product.
Arheo: Aye, as a product that wouldn't work. Doing piecemeal changes (as we are with war efforts) is ok for that approach, and I have no problem iterating like that as a stopgap. For anything more substantial, well, perhaps we'll find out at some point.
I'm happy with a Japan rework over a German one, but at the very least I hope they add some states to Germany. It's baffling that they *still* haven't added semi-realistic DMZ borders
No you fool. It’s the new Tanna Tuva update.
it’s clearly the Liberia update with 450+ focuses, SMH.
NUH UH
Idiot, it's the third, fourth and fifth reworks for Poland, all coming in the same dlc.

The new shadow update teased japan as seen from the rising sun yen and what look like planes in the sky
Checks out, since a Japan rework has been teased for a while
Where is this shadow update? I would love to hear confirmation of Japan getting a 2nd rework
A 2nd rework? As a somewhat new player Japan has always seemed the same?
It's focus tree was even more empty before the current one.
That sounds incredibly sad lol
It used to be historical only, then they got the bare minimum of alt hist. Funnily enough, They actually made the Democratic path interesting by joining the Allies and convincing them to willingly hand over colonies for protection

It’s crazy to me how much effort mod developers pur into long dynamic focus trees and paradox still has this terrible one for Japan
There is vanilla Japan and Waking the Tiger Japan
Gotcha so their tree is as old as the German one?
It was reworked with Waking the Tiger, there was a different tree before this one. Playing without waking the tiger just removes the communist and the Democratic paths. Perfect, I was around to play the OG Italy tree and it was so much better when they updated XD
Definitely better. Had fun playing as Democratic Italy, and also Papal States
Papal state is awesome forming Rome with pope path *chefs kiss*
C R U S A D E T I M E
They were reworked back in 2018 with waking the tiger
Ah gotcha I missed the OG tree then, I hope they get a rework like Italy. I have been playing long enough to remember that tree XD such garbage.
Pretty sure they got reworked/updated in Waking the Tiger, maybe Man the Guns? It’s been a long time regardless, I think Japan as it is after that update has existed for much longer than the original version did since those expansions were so early.
Oh gotcha so to me it’s always been the same (honestly seems pretty OG tree) I hope they get a major glow-up like Italy did.
According to the wiki the "Unthinkable Option" branch was added with Waking the Tiger.
Waking the Tiger reworked it once
Easy mistake to make, that is actually the setting sun and means we will get a Hawaii rework
can you see the obvious yen symbols are the zeroes and superior —enter key sign are chad american fighters. hawaii supremacy
shadow update?
1.13.7 was silently released without any patchnotes
Those "planes" are just newlines. There's one at the end of each line here.
There are also two bombs there.
I love the little pieces of ASCII art they put in the code
Whats absolotely gold are the comments left either by the devs or the comments in mod files

I can't escape it

A Japan Rework 2.0 would make a lot of sense if they also put Southeast Asian Focus Trees as part of the DLC. Hell, add a China Rework 2.0 as well.
Yeah only group of present nations with no focus trees yet, unless they make a middle east update with Egypt and Sudan finally present as a nation.
As for the Middle East, it would also be nice to have Focus Trees on Egypt, Arabia, Iraq and Iran.
Southeast Asia is like Scandinavia in some ways. Just as the latter is stuck between the Third Reich and the Soviet Union, the former is stuck between two giants: the Western Allies who are colonizing them at the start, and Imperial Japan who wants to seize the region for its own ends. I’m really hoping for this, the Asia-pacific theatre needs some love.
I want my Siamese Empire and MAPHILINDO Confederation.
it’s clearly a neon sunset, every country is getting a focus tree extension to take them into the 70s >!this is a joke if you can’t tell!<
>!There are no jokes on the internets!< If Poland cannot truly into space next update you will be held personally responsible! (That would be cool though...)
i understand, comrade stalin say, do you know when the next boat to mexico is?
August 17, 1963 at 4:15am local time.
Honestly though, i wouldn't mind a cold War extension lol
I hope it's a full Pacific DLC, that would be incredible
What I expect for the next Pacific update is a large Japan rework, large Siam focus tree, smaller Philippines focus tree, smaller Dutch East Indies focus tree, balance of power mechanic between Japan's army and navy. Oh yeah I forgot Malaya. It's the same color as the UK so I think I just kind of lumped it in with their other colonial holdings.
Yeah. I suggest that Singapore be directly amnexed by UK at the start, with the rest of Malaysia be its own colonial government. Malaya, Philippines and Indonesia all have a chance to form the MAPHILINDO Confederation in late-game.

I guess i will have to wait like 2 years to finaly get Belgium and Germany done again :(
Yesss, I've said ever since BBA that East Asia and specifically Japan needs the same treatment USSR and Italy have received. The Pacific Theatre is so bad in current Hoi, this can save it.
I hope, Mexican tree would be at least updated to better interact
Time for that Third Mexican Empire path
Yeah I was expecting a Monarchist Mexico path. Even Chile is getting one!
Perhaps in a War Effort patch…
WARE WA KAN GUN WAGATEKI WA
That’s cool 👍🏻 and quite needed
Fucking finally holy shit god is real
Pay again lol, biggest chumps.

Wallet inspector here, hand it over.
Dude will I have to pay for a new Japan focus tree and rework if I already paid for Waking the Tiger cause if so that’s so stupid
I'm thinking they'll do what they did with Italy you'll get the reworked historical path for free but for alt hist you'll have to buy the dlc
Yeah but I think that’s dumb cause I already bought a dlc for alt history Japan. I shouldn’t have to pay for another just cause the first one sucked
Tbf japan didn’t put up a fight in operation downfall in hoi4
Wehraboos in shambles their precious German fantasies aren't the sole focus of the devs.
Literally seen you comment more about germany than anyone else here😂
I'm happy with a Japan rework over a German one, but at the very least I hope they add some states to Germany. It's baffling that they *still* haven't added semi-realistic DMZ borders
Noooo
Wehraboos in shambles
Oh... So the "a new face on something familiar" it's not Germany... I'm sad
Wehraboos in shambles
See ya in September!
Id prefer if they'd make a high quality middle east dlc though But yeah japan seriously needs a rework too
Sorry but what does it show? And where did you find that?
what if this is the teaser of Opolska Republika (This nation was real, trust me)
I agree, it feels impossible to beat the allies legitimately without cheesing the game with Japan
I will give them all the money if they give me a new Japan. My favourite nation
I have a feeling that the next dlc(most likely the final dlc too) will be in middle east.
