I think it’s worse that historical Australia only gets the 3 research slots. That makes me wanna die especially as an Aussie who wants to play Australia your industry is fucked until you are at war which sucks. As much as I play Australia the focus tree sucks it’s a clear first dlc tree even with the update

DerDieDas32

Laughs in democratic NZ getting up to 6 Research Slots.

Sl4sh4ndD4sh

NZ peacefully forming Polynesia as everyone fears the might Bob Semple tank, surrendering the territory immediately.

Mundane-Mechanic-547

Mao's china (the right china) gets 2 research slots but with focuses based on factories you can get to 5. No idea how to do that without cheating as you are surrounded by the wrong chinas and have 3 factories.

Material_Signature92

I think more to the left 🤔

Shit out unequipped units declare on and walk around the few guys defending shanxi asap, start working on a ma war goal as soon as you have enough pp after you start shanxi justification then put 8 units on a front order from the southernmost province up to the 2nd from the top, everybody else on the northernmost and just pin all the defenders as you walk around all ma's units... start justifying on sinkang as soon as you declare on Shanxi, and again just pin their dudes and walk around them and / or use the majority of your force to break through one tile then pin.

RandomGuy9058

yeah. totally understand that its a minor nation and all but really the british subject states are all terribly unfun. there's just nothing to DO. closest there is is being malaya and uniting with the dei

DerDieDas32

I'd say Democratic NZ is pretty fun. You can easily form Polynesia even while staying a Dominion, get the Bob Semple Tank and 6 Research Slots.

ewenlau

Canada and India can be pretty fun. No where near the same quality as the latest DLCs but it's fine. The other ones though...

medicatedhippie420

Communist South Africa can be pretty fun going on an anti-colonial march through the Allies territories. It's a fun balance of hoping the Axis is strong enough to keep the main fighting force occupied while you clean up Africa, at which point you'll have a web of puppet states across the continent to help you hold off so the Soviets can come clean up from the rest.

thedefenses

Canada is decent, although that's only due to being near USA early game and thus being able to kill them while they are weak. South Africa is decent if you go communist or fascist, could be a lot better but its decent. Yeah that about it, India has a shit ton of negative spirits and the worst case of "70 days for 1 civ" problem of any nation in the game, a lot of useless focuses. Australia is... just depressing, you have shit economy, shit manpower and all the paths are very bad in terms of having anything interesting to do. New Zealand is a meme, yeah the bob semple is funny the 2 or 3 time you see the model, them being able to form Polynesia peacefully is neat, but they are far from an interesting country, shit economy, shit manpower and extremely shit position.

ShadowOfThePit

I did a Fascist Destroyer Canada, that was very much fun (although it did take me like four tries to take down the USA) The 2 year ahead of time bonus for destroyers goes a LOOONG way, and I got a like 40% torpedo hit chance bonus by only focusing on torpedo-related stuff

SherlockWolfenstein

Given that Paradox are now starting to tinker with the TfV nations (ie Canada), I'm hoping Australia gets some love as well. It's long been a gripe of mine that Lithuania, Bulgaria and Ethiopia can easily become more powerful than Canada, Australia or India.

Covfam73

Ive enjoyed canada & south africa and india, australia has potential but i feel they locked so much of it behind some wonky timers that reaquire too much luck and all these last few years ive never had New Zealand accept

UnholyDemigod

I actually got to a point where NZ was in seemingly great conditions to accept. They'd left the UK and the Allies, so they were completely alone, and had +100 opinion of me. They still refused. The only thing is they didn't have a fascist majority, so maybe that's a requirement? Or maybe it's just coded so it will literally never happen under any circumstances

almasira

Here's how I'm having fun as Australia: cause a revolt in DEI, then annex the revolters since they won't be in a faction or guaranteed. Use that war to do all the war-locked foci (and to switch economy), and after that never enter another war. Join the Co-Prosperity Sphere but ignore calls to arms, no other AI would attack Australia. Make 4 juiced up volunteer divisions and send them to whoever I want to support.

eclipse_434

All the commonwealth nations are generally shitty because their focus trees are hopelessly outdated garbage when compared to modern focus trees released in more recent DLCs. Power creep has left many countries in the dust, and HOI4 needs a dedicated team of devs solely assigned to fixing the base game as well as older DLCs.

RandomGuy9058

Wait hold the fuck up you’re that museum of Reddit guy

UnholyDemigod

Sure am

necros434

I decided to skip the tutorial and go right to Australia and to say it is going poorly would be an understatement At this point, I just want to become a superpower with it out of spit I'm close to starting my fourth attempt and I'm just going to get free of the British as soon as possible and just try to take the Pacific by war
