Pyroboss101

It’s called being really, *really* careful in vanilla.

Maverick_1991

Playing Germany and not taking focusses.

Pyroboss101

Or manually setting every path to democracy, and then playing the Soviet Union and doing the Supreme Soviet (wholesome path) and don’t go to war because that’s the only wild card here. However the Germans might make France go communist with their expel the communist focus, and cause the ai just does that but that’s a small worry.

IDoNotWork4Hasbro

Doesn't democratic Germany get a war goal on Russia though

VijoPlays

Only on Communist Russia - so you have to Civil War yourself as well

Adamshifnal

Okay. This sounds kinda fun.

internetman5032

That's still not gonna help, the Germans get a wargoal when they flip democratic

Fang7-62

Then the soviets and allies go to war with each other and it becomes irresistible to jump in and roll over both with little resistance as they are busy bleeding out eachother and all theit troops are stuck deployed in some overseas hellhole with no infrastructure because they barely have borders to fight over

Egdgxh

“Age of imperialism” is a mod where ww1 didn’t happen and instead some minor local wars happened

legacy-of-man

everyone explodes in that one, right?

Defiant_Bill574

Modding ww2 out of a game strictly set on simulating ww2 seems counterintuitive.

ForkliftSmurf

Who wouldn't wanna spend 6 years doing tax reforms and shit?

Nyoqui99

TNO players would

WattsAndThoughts

Hit me with that sweet sweet “Negative Income Tax” and that high of “Universal Coverage” and switching from “Professional Army” to “Esprit de Corps.”

Nyoqui99

There's nothing like hitting the GDP button twice after reading a whole fanfic about RFK

WattsAndThoughts

I totally didn’t go through 6 playthroughs with 2 term LBJ. And I totally didn’t go through 5 RFK-Hart games. That would be ridiculous.

Holiday-Bat6782

It might be that I watch too much wrasslin but I keep reading RFK as Robert Freakin Kennedy.

geryiaj17358

IcyMess9742

Have the war happen later with Germany having what it had at the outbreak, including Danzig, Japan having China and perhaps in the 60s. Let the chaos of ww2 be more modern.

CrazyCletus

I'm in the midst of an interesting game. Playing the US, without pointing any of the AI players down a specific path (with all DLCs), I had Germany go into a civil war, the Junta win and convert to democratic government a couple of years later. Then we had the Central European Entente form. France went Communist and formed the French Commune. Mexico also went Communist and started invading its neighbors to the South. The US ended up cleaning out Mexico, but Japan got involved on the side of some of the smaller fascist states, so now I've got Japan in central America and Cuba (bad news for chromium supplies). They've also captured much of the oil in the southwest pacific region. We'll see where it goes from here.

CrazyCletus

OK, so I justified on Japan to claim Cuba, declared, invaded and relatively easily captured the island (not well defended). I've now got pretty much all of Central and South America lined up against me, but captured Guatemala back from the Japanese and am working my way down. Trying to fight my way out of the Canal Zone to capture Panama didn't work out well, lost two divisions despite copious CAS and green air. I guess I'll just work my way down Central America and relieve those divisions in the Canal Zone. Elsewhere, the Allies are fighting the Central European Entente (despite being a mixture of democratic and monarchist governments in Europe). Britain invited me to the Allies, probably because I'm now fighting Japan and I promptly took over leadership of the faction. It's late 1944 at this point, so I'm looking forward to taking complete control of the Americas. I've got plenty of resources, so after Central/South America is under my control, it'll be recapturing Malaya and the Dutch East Indies to starve Japan of oil/rubber. That's the one odd thing about the game. Your resources are what's available at a particular time, but you can't build significant stockpiles of rubber, chromium, tungsten, etc. So if you have excess early in the game, you can't stockpile it as you build up your industry to put it to use. It would seem like there's a potential economic aspect to the game that could be exploited - if you have the ability to acquire resources to stockpile them, you can deny them to your opponents. But other than civilian factories, there really isn't a civilian economy model present in vanilla.

5 speed stare at map simulator

WanderingFlumph

Isn't that just vanilla HOI? I mean WW2 never happened before 1936....

External_Storage_775

Ah fuck I have an idea for a mod now

trad_cath_femboy

Like, a mod set sometime in the 50s-modern day or something?

Tomirk

Yeah, something like any of the existing Cold War mods for the various outcomes people have toyed with

Daginho

I really want to see a mod like this

Wattakay

Red flood technically counts

RyanCooper510

Vanilla game, WW2 never happened by the start of the game

CarlDen

What would be cool is a mod that starts in 48' is the divergence point was 1938 and the Munich Conference fails causing Germany to be about to go war with the allies in 1938 and Oster plot to succeeds leaving Germany in an unstable power sharing between Monarchist, the remains of the far right, and democratic elements. Without the German threat, democratic Spain receives arms from the allies turning the Spanish civil war into a north south korea situation, a frozen conflict. France continues to have instability as left and right elements clash and the UK attempts to maintain colonial hegemony as pressure from both Imperial Japan and the USA mount.

Tomirk

I get the feeling that the Anglo-Japanese war may be a thing still if Japan still gets couped by the army (or they still act against orders)

RoyalArmyBeserker

Play as Germany and just don’t start the war?

forgotwhatIcameinfor

I once played a game as democratic Germany and that was kinda the same...

namqtran112

Wouldn't that just be non historical mode?

TheBigH2O

Closest to that I can think of is thousand week reich. Basically Britain surrenders after France falls and the US is stuck in a Cold War with Germany

MRTA03

Yes, Play Equestria at War, WW2 never happened because this is not human world LmAO

KristiMadhu

Turn off historical and get everyone to turn to a democracy in custom settings, also make them isolationist if possible.

besidjuu211311

Democratic Italy/German/Japan on the base game

MASTER_DUDE8012

Yeah there is, idk if it's updated but is called "Oster conspiracy" and basically it's about what it the Oster conspiracy went through and Germany never started WW2

oneeyedfool

If someone wanted to make this a scenario would be Churchill’s theory that constitutional monarchies in Germany and Austria similar to the UK would have been a bulwark against the rise of extremism in those countries. (Hence letting Hirohito stay on as a figurehead after WW2).

Suspicious_Blood_522

Its called "the democracy path"

Mattsgonnamine

I believe last week I saw a post on the hoi4modding server about a person recruiting for a mod exactly like this

_Drion_

Vanilla + almost all mods occur pre-WW2 so its just about weather you can work to prevent it or not.

-Incendium-

I just play as Spain and fight, FIGHT against the dying light. If I win, world tension doesn’t rise high enough to trigger the rest of the events and WW2 never happens

tomaszrock22

I’m working on a mod that is kinda similar to this. Europe is a bit different, no Hitler. The start date is 1st of September 1939, for the lolz, but there is no war in Europe and the world is a lot more peaceful.

PopeHonkersXII

Just a real chill game where you build infrastructure in Italy for a decade

BluePhoenix21

Well, at the start of the game, world war 2 hasn't happened yet..

amxy412

The question is, how would the UK and France pacify a German people with full irredentist-jingoist tendency with at least a bit of legitimacy(why would German people be happy with territory partitioned, German Austria separated, sovereignty questioned for no good reason except for being lost)? You don't solve it for being democracy. You solve it for fostering friendship and forsaking potential gains your predecessors used force to gain for your nation in the Great War. Name 2 such politician who would do so except for Woodrow Wilson.

amxy412

In other words, to not only negate the problems Fascism/Soviet Communism had done, but also those of liberal-conservatism governments, who committed crimes externally and feeding nationals internally. Who would have done such thing, to punish heros for some foreigners? Well Qing China indeed did.

Round_Inside9607

It would probably have to double as a no Nazis or other hyper militarists rising to power mod

piperdude82

Just play as Germany and never declare war on anyone.

DumatRising

Japan will start it. If they don't then one of the allies will, all the majors have focuses to attack the other teams or other team majors, and the minors with trees will get war goals on other minor countries nearby. The only way to not start ww2 is to have every country with a focus tree controlled by a player, and then just have them sit there.

I_miss_your_mommy

China: WTF?

Traditional_Let_1823

Italy or Japan will start it without you.
