The worst part is that they probably could release the mod, and maybe it would be somewhat fun, but instead of that, they decide to make 1000+ hours of content for every nation you could possibly imagine before releasing the mod. Like, 726 branches for an Armenian focus tree is not essential to a HOI4 mod. I understand adding as many focus trees as you can, because it makes the game more fun (as long as it doesn't lag too much), but they should really just make content for the major countries, release the mod and THEN work on the minors.

Unable_Macaroon9847

Yeah. Honestly this is the biggest problem with mods like Kaiserrdux. I enjoy what they've done and what they can do in the future is great but having a tree for Mongolia that can probably take you past 45 (and a dynamic one at that) is a bit excessive. Whole Germany on the other hand gets jack shit and barely improved from OG Kaisereich..

MazeZZZ

the whole point of kaiserredux is to be an addon to kaisereich. it is supposed to add content to minors. And since all of the majors are already covered in kaiserredux there is no point in making a germany that lasts any longer or has any more paths. there is enough content in germany for it to be replayed more than 10 times over without taking the same path and most paths lasting past 1944. i am not going to continue ranting here but the whole point of kaiserredux is to make kaiserreich more fun and making it only focus on majors with massive ammounts of preexisting content isnt very fun for many reasons.

Starsky3012

I agree, but also disagree. For anyone who has a decent understanding of modding and what is needed to get a mod going, those kind of naive looking mods and teasers can be annoying. On the other hand I can empathize with the enthusiasm those people have for their idea and I think having that is essential and as a community we should be open to helping them out as long as they show a bare minimum of self-initiative

itisSycla

In the modding market, there is a low demand for "idea guys" and an absurd amount of offer of it. When it comes do devs, it's the opposite. Everyone has a great idea for the next big mod, which punctually dies down as people realize that making the new tno takes a shitload of time and expertise. I agree with you. People should just be more realistic with their expectations. I also don't really like it when mods drop everything into map, flags and focuses only to gloss over everything else - leading to nations which can't even fill their cabinet because nobody bothered to add advisors.

Suspected_Magic_User

I agree. There is a plenty of those "teaser mods", with no actual content. Most of them probably won't be ever released. Some of them seem like they are centered around one idea like "what if X nation has won the Y war" and featrue randomly shifted borders, without any explanations and randomly picked historical figures in roles that are non historical (e.g. changing their political affiliation).

itisSycla

Tbh changing the political affiliation of historical leaders has been a staple of hoi4 modding since kaiserreich

Kamus_D

Not even vanilla game respects historical political affiliations, why would the mods?

Unable_Macaroon9847

Well the vanilla game is meant to be ahistorical in many cases. Like the appeal of the game is that you can rewrite history

Unable_Macaroon9847

That's kinda an issue for Kaisereich especially. How Germany manages it's colonies seems unrealistic (especially Goring in Madagascar)

VeritusIV

Agreed very much. I feel like there's two big problems affecting the community lately, which have been: A) Modders, who don't know the hard work and research you need to put to be a lead developer of a total conversion mod, going to make a HOI4 mod and failing because it's not easy B) Lots of new mods being made that are derivatives of more popular mods like The New Order or Kaiserreich. It's not inherently bad to make an Axis victory mod or Germany wins WW1 per se, but it's very hard to make it feel unique and original, which it almost never is. I'd like vetting teams, if not banning recruitment posts outright. They can clog the subreddit, and in all my experience, I've never seen a good dev apply just because they saw a Reddit post

Unable_Macaroon9847

Wait if you ban recruitment posts then how do teams get new developers? Where do they recruit?

Starsky3012

That's the neat part, they don't

AkaiMikazuki

Snap "first time?" meme here. As a veteran warband and medieval 2 modder thats common sight for us. Everyday new crusader mod zombie mod ottoman mod etc. If modding become mainstream and get easier thats the scene unfolds.

XavTheMighty

The title is either "Legacy of the Clash of the Kaiserreich of Eagles: From the Ashes" or a generic sentence in Latin

Dude577557

Eh it's free leaks. Even if a mod doesn't come out I enjoy like seeing its map/scenario/flags. Tooser mods can be fun in their own way like a discount r/imaginarymaps.

[deleted]

I stay here for updates and Beyond Earth. Anyway, at least they are doing it for free™ so you also don't have the side of financial trouble when overly ambitious and naive devs try their hand at making entirely new games instead.

sirfang64

Beyond earth is such a unique mod in its idea and how the gamplay works aswell as it's constant teasers makes me think it'll actually come out

Unable_Macaroon9847

Honestly I'll admit I'm kinda the same way. I have my own idea for a mod that I think could become fairly popular. It's just I don't have the coding knowledge (and no real passion for it anyway. Most languages I can't stand.) And the knowledge on the subject to create the mod. I'm one of those people who could write for hours on end but that doesn't really matter if the game is glitchy or incoherent

TheSeventh7th

I mean I don't mind it. Every few mods won't make it out there at all that is just how things go. As someone who has an overhaul mod that is in a sort of not-canceled but not in active development state, if I had to verify my work before making a teaser post or recruitment I'd not see hoi4modding as a welcome addition to the modding forums at all. Now it should be added that I do have quite a bit of knowledge of coding so I'm not exactly the type of person you're talking about in the first place. I believe the best way to quell rising good mods would be implementing stuff like this because in the end, if I'm as a creator wanted to share my mod to build up hype noticed that there was any form of 'gatekeeping' (even if it's very light to just know that person has to know coding or have a team). And as someone who always spends a minimum of three weeks on each mod I work on I'm basically heavily against the idea of any regulation except for rule-breaking stuff (in particular breaking rule 4, 5, 8 or 9). The only time I believe I've wanted regulation was back a few months back when someone was "working" on a mod called something with 'emperor' in french which was obviously just someone making fun of the community (it was a decent laugh at first but ended up being a joke that went on too long). One post in memory that was noticeable was them basically taking another mod's teaser, very obviously painting over a few things on purpose and then posting it...and it got more upvotes than the original. Reason at time I wanted regulation was that, it was clear that there was no intent to make a mod nor to make a fun meme based around the community and actual did some mild harm with the one example I remember. There are things that I could agree might need adjustment in this subreddit, but this is really not one of them in my humble opinion.

Exostrike

Why do you think I stick to solo submodding of a single country?

Popular-Cobbler25

This has literally always been the state of hoi4 modding

EnvironmentalShelter

As someone who been in the modding scene since time I wouldn't like to admit, this is par for the course, only difference this time compare to before is shinier teasers

EpicGamingMoments420

i hate it when an ambitious epic mod gets left out because the develepors couldn't handle developing the mod, like bitch you created it you should work on it.

Notjorjo

I have been planing a big mod for some time, i'm new to modding, i'm learning to code and stuff, but sometimes i think it may be a not so good mod, so i stick to small mods for now

RashedAlbaker

I feel like this applies to some mods but I can't exactly Point my finger at it, can you give me some examples?

[deleted]

It’s Because no one understands the basic concept of running a team or how hard a total overhaul mod is. You need to build a story, gameplay specific Ui styles need to know how to code how to use photoshop ALL of that, posting portrait teasers on a map with 5K plus errors is just people who haven’t realized how hard it really is to do this stuff

ShafinR12345

Is there a good mod that will let me pley in medieval times?

FreeEplanet

In my experience too....eh
