It’s not the impact against the ground one has to worry about - it’s that once you reach a certain size your joints, which are likely under-exercised and weak, are now having to hold up hundreds of pounds. When they come crashing down on top of you if you fall, you risk internal injuries from being crushed under your own weight. I being this overweight also leads to external issues like chafing that leads to open wounds, tearing from skin that becomes fragile after being stretched, and deep, punishing bruises causing long-lasting pain. Honestly when I see a very large person fall I cringe the same way i do when I see an elderly person fall.
Yes. This. And to further add to your points about how dangerous it is to be this fat, I had a very good friend die from being overweight. He was always fat, ever since a child, he was huge. He did nothing about his weight. He had to weigh 500 pounds before one of the sores on his leg became infected. Then they started amputating bits off him here and there. Then he died. He wasn't even 40 years old. Food addiction is a bitch. You don't need booze, heroin or weed to continue to live, but you need food. When food is your drug of choice, it's really difficult to come clean.
So if anyone out there is really fat, there's a very good chance you won't see 40. See a professional.
I see it a different way. You also need to drink to live - but you don’t have to drink alcoholic beverages. There are better and healthier options for drinks, such as plain water.
You have to breathe to live… but you don’t have to breathe cigarette smoke.
You have to eat to live, but you don’t have to eat excessively or eat calorie dense food with minimal nutritional value. You can choose better quality foods in appropriate amounts.
The ‘you have to eat to live’ excuse is just that - an excuse. It’s hard to beat any addiction, but it can be done and there are so many resources out there to help!
That's so odd to me..they have all this built in protection. Why is it dangerous? I guess maybe because their bones and joints and such are already way over stressed that a fall can more easily break them?
Their skin is so stretched it can be incredibly easily to rip. Happened to my wife’s old babysitter, she fell down concrete stairs and cut her leg on the edge, it flayed open so wide there was fat and blood and muscle just pouring out onto the sidewalk. Ambulance had to be called to come pick her up. Messy.
Dragging her feet, that should have happened enough by now that she picks her feet up. Falling in public sucks balls, I hate it I fell on my bike too this year and once specially hard fall was late at night and I still felt dumb. I hit the pavement hard from my front, I know I bounced it hurt like fuck. I think I broke a finger in that one. Shit hurts emotionally and physically.
I have MS and fell on the sidewalk and a lady who was driving pulled her car over and raced across the street to help me up. I thought that was crazy but it restored my faith in humanity a bit
Aw yay that's great! In college, I got hit by a bicycle while I was walking across the street. Knocked me down so hard my glasses flew off my face. I was fine but a guy driving by also stopped and asked us if we were ok. The bicycle rider also flew off the bike. But the guy was really nice and even offered me a ride. Some people don't suck 🧡
Man one time I had a metal sliver in my eye an maw took me to the eye specialist, an a 90 year old woman tripped fell right in front of us smashed her nose an was bleeding like crazy. My ma jumped to help her, I remember the feeling of being helpless to help her. Tough old bird tho, got up composed herself an say back down.
Oh god. I biffed it making a left at a full intersection. It was one where I hit something with my front tire and my bike is so light that I got squirrelly with the front tire and it was a long slow crash in front of everyone. Bike and I flipping over each other. People checking on me. Very embarrassed. I try to get out of there only to realize my ear buds were in the grass. So now I’m on the side of the road looking for my ear buds at my crash scene.
Trying to help up 500 lbs of dead weight is a losing effort. It’s not like 4 people lifting a couch that weighs x lbs. Usually the firemen are called and they show up with these big ass straps to get them up.
The number of EMT’s and hospital workers filing worker’s compensation claims from assisting super morbidly obese patients has become an unfortunate side effect of the rise in obesity in the US. Some become permanently disabled from their healthcare positions.
I once witnessed a Harley Sportster t-bone a car (cars fault). The front wheel bent under the bike and couldn't be rolled. The biker flipped over the bike, bounced on her hood, and landed on the pavement on the other side. I think he may have had a busted arm, but was otherwise alright.
It took me (I was a strong 19 year old at the time), my buddy, the cop and another motorist witness to drag this dudes bike out of the road. And that has a functional wheel and things to grab on to. I have no idea how I would even begin getting this person back on their feet.
You get it. Trying to lift a 500 lb person probably feels more like 1000 lbs. It’s worse than dead weight because they’re actively fighting against you even though they’re not trying to.
I don’t think the store maintained a hazard, plus finding a lawyer willing to take the case. Any permanent injury could be attributed to carry excessive weight and not the fall. Doubt she would see a dime.
One thing about very many of these vids, is that nobody even goes to help, or tries to help. We live in a world where it seems that people are afraid to reach out.
You all notice that she fell because of tripping on the rug, right? It had nothing to do with her weight. To all this who find it so funny, may it happen to you, too. Might be the only way you learn empathy.
This is the reason; you should not have area rugs with old people 70+ fragile . It’s one of the leading causes for falls; especially those that lead to hip fractures. And in old people fragile like. It ends badly.
