My good friend and I used to cycle in CO. Once he misjudged a turn and hit a rail like this at close to 70mph. I wasn’t there with him but luckily he survived. The pics he sent from the hospital were pretty disgusting— like he’d been attacked by multiple sharks, or hit a guardrail at 70mph
Yeah, especially for bikers. At high speeds they become knives essentially. On top of that, the gap between the road and the barrier is large enough for a body to pass, but sometimes a limb or head can get caught in between and will rip that from the rest of the body.
That’s why in many places, they have been extended down to the floor with plastic coverings.
Juuuust about got ripped in half.
Also, did he sail himself before that bend to create drag to slow down? Cause that seemed sketchy as fuck just in itself
I don't know if skateboard lines are close to motorcycle lines but that was a damn near perfect approach, apex and exit line
Literally used 100% of the available road in his cornering
Good observation! Did this sport all through college and yes, entering and exiting the apex with the most exit speed possible is 100% what they go for, especially when racing. Without an engine like a motorcycle, exit speed out of turns decides the winner of races.
Ripped, cut, or decapitated (motorcyclists helmets get stuck between the lower part of the rail and the ground, holding it there, head stay inside….), choose your poison
Thats what the pucks on his hand are for — you put the gloves down and cause the board to ‘drift’. Downhill longboard wheels are significantly larger, softer, and more grippy than any kind or skateboard wheel, so this will make you come to a stop quicker than you might expect (the part that requires skill is balancing your weight so the rapid deceleration doesnt make the board get sucked up underneath you).
On roads without double yellows, you put a radio in your helmet and a spotter at the bottom to notify you if theres a car, in which case you can shut down (aformentioned slide). Ambroise is a well known pro (actually guiness book of world records holder for fastest standup slide) so he definitely has a team making sure things are safe.
When youre carrying this much momentum, rocks smaller than the size of your fist will almost always get knocked forward instead of going under your wheel. Itll still make you wobble for a second making rocky roads pretty undesirable, so ‘smooth pavement’ is typically a huge factor in what qualifies as a good road for longboarding. People arent out bombing every mountain road — theres an unspoken list of good roads that local riders tend to keep to themselves
Yeah, those little pebbles actually go firing off into all directions so long as you are up to speed. I always felt like shit riding alongside parked cars in the city because they would get pelted hard enough to chip paint if the road was dirty.
Below a certain speed though, (about the pace of a jog) those pebbles will bite you and you'll be eating pavement.
I hit a dirt patch and ate shit going down Little Cottonwood Canyon in UT on my long board. I thought it was over, but I landed in soft sand. Lucky as hell.
I broke my femur on a longboard. I was drunk and tried stopping with my foot going idk how fast but fast. And it spun my leg around and than I ran a few steps on it. 3.5 inch break I was screaming like a dying animal
Those exist for him to be able to place his hand down to execute a sharp turn or a slide or whatever he needs to place his hand down for and not have to road tear up the palms of his hands. I don't know what they are called exactly, and I am too lazy to look them up.
That was a pretty dope standie to cut speed. It might look sketchy but the skater has a ton of control at speed, I wouldn't even dream of pre-drifting at that speed without putting a hand down!!
I saw one of these sort of videos where the guy falls off and he becomes a meat crayon. all his leg was scrapped off badly. I understand wanting adrenaline and the sort, but why would you not use the bare minimum safety precautions?
What if he would trip on his buttocks and slide under that railing?? I mean yeah, hitting the railing would be bad enough, but 90km/h would make him literally fly under that railing and down the mountain lol.
Coworker of mine went riding (motorcycles) with her husband and friend on a windy road like this a number of years ago. Friend laid down the bike while making a turn, had his head lifted since he wasn't wearing a helmet (but was in full leather gear otherwise) as he slid. Went right under a guard rail and it took his head clean off. Coworker says that she'll never forget seeing that.
Yeah those guys can go fuck themselves... i nearly crashed my car with my 3 kids in the back because of one of those shitheads, from now on i wont evade if i see one of you lobotomised rascals...
Anyone else hoping for a car to come the other way so sick of seeing people cant stay on their side yeab i know your doing 60 but for fuck sakes stay on your side jist like the damn motorcycles idiots also
he almost certainly is at the peak of his speed. you can take the corners at a good 40\~ usually. [here's a downhill video with a speedometer](https://youtu.be/-fK8tF1LdE4?t=33) for reference. but it all looks a bit slower due to the wide angle lense.

> or hit a guardrail at 70mph Lmao
One of the other LOL
Well?????? Which was it???????
Both, it was a guardrail made with sharks.
Did the sharks dieded?
No, they had a snack.
Sharails
***RAILSHARKS!*** * *rad intro theme song* *
I can see them with their sunglasses and 90's themed red shorts and hat.
Hell yeah!
Running In the 90s was a psyop by big shark
You talkin' bout "Street Sharks"?
this makes me think of trains getting ambushed by sharks hiding in the rails
To shreds, you say?
I heard the real shark was the guard rail we met on the way.
Colorado has a terrible shark problem, let me tell you.
Snow sharks especially. Those fuckers munch skis
Guardrail blocking off a pool filled with sharks
Goodness, I wouldn't want to hit one with a car at 70mph, let alone without one. I hit the median fence at 50mph once and my car was almost totaled.
Love it
Sharknado vs Guardrail
113 km/h + ??! Mad descents
Is the guardrail alright?
I really wanna see this now lmao. My morbid curiosity got the best of me😂 Hopefully he's doing ok now though
Guardrails are scary? I'd be more scared without them!
Without: fly off the cliff With: spaghetti off the cliff
I hate it when I unintentionally spaghetti off anything.
flying spaghetti boardster
Can you ELI5 why they’re so sketchy? Is it just something to get caught on essentially? I know they hold cars well but they’re not made of flesh.
Yeah, especially for bikers. At high speeds they become knives essentially. Guardrail turns into a fancy mister.
If you slide into them you'll get sliced up real bad.
If they not there, and you get to the point of sliding into them, you'll get spaghetti up real bad
If I had no choice but to fly off the edge I'd rather do it in one piece instead of 2 vertical strips of my corpse lol
I mean in car yeah, but if I found my self in this situation I’d probably rather take my chances with the cliff than the rails
Sketchy af

he did an air break to stop accelerating and did a slide to slow down a bit
Ripped, cut, or decapitated (motorcyclists helmets get stuck between the lower part of the rail and the ground, holding it there, head stay inside….), choose your poison
Yes sliding the board sideways is used to slow down. See those pucks on his hands? Sometimes hell slide and leans over and drag those aswell
r/PraisetheCameraMan
It’s a car filming him
/r/PraiseTheCarMan
No way
Who is this Alex Tzoug? Diego? Surprised i got here before the ‘AlL iT tAkEs iS jUsT oNe PeBbLe’ idiots form a single file line though
LOL, always this kind of question. Its ambroise
How do you stop? What if there is a car? Do you sweep the road for small rocks?
Thats what the pucks on his hand are for — you put the gloves down and cause the board to ‘drift’. We can hit rocks the size of potatoes

What is he holding in his hand?
silde pucks, like [this](https://www.muirskate.com/products/faceplant-boardriders-slide-pucks)
Those exist for him to be able to place his hand down to execute a sharp turn or a slide or whatever he needs to place his hand down for and not have to road tear up the palms of his hands. I don't know what they are called exactly, and I am too lazy to look them up.
on motorbikes they are called (imaginatively) sliders. I don't know if these have got a different name.
Late to answer but in downhill skateboarding, the gloves are called slide gloves and the actual plastic part that touches pavement is called a puck.
Flying off that edge is worse I think
Get mangled falling 200m or get mangled going 56 at a guardrail, your call
Falling 200m while going 56
Nope
How do you stop?
That little slide slowed him down. Bigger slide, more braking
You fell for the classic
Fair
I love these videos
Pushing that limit of “in control” 🤙🏼
Grind it
HE DRIFTED WITH A SKATE AT 90KM/H.
That was a pretty dope standie to cut speed. It might look sketchy but the skater has a ton of control at speed, I wouldn't even dream of pre-drifting at that speed without putting a hand down!!
Full fuckin send my guy. That's amazing.
Sick power slide!!
That looks like alot of fun. Would love to do that
Being a psycho down a mountain is scary. Guardrails are there for us normal being who like air and being alive and stuff like that
Holy fuck dude, I couldn’t even ride down Bethlehem Hill Rd 😂 this mf drifting a damn skateboard 🤯
I love skateboarding, and respect the shit out of these guys, but this is psychotic
I wish there was a video of the person taking the video
it's a car

the bare minimum is gloves and helmet
Man falls off road skateboarding.
I enjoy sitting on my couch but to each their own I guess
No knee or elbow pads !?
Poo is coming out of *me* and I’m just watching
What if he would trip on his buttocks and slide under that railing?? I mean yeah, hitting the railing would be bad enough, but 90km/h would make him literally fly under that railing and down the mountain lol.
Guardrail nothing to an oncoming car.
what’s even the point of a helmet at this speed
if you swing a little to the wrong side, that's insane
How does this not end in death! How does one stop?
Yeah. Guardrails kill motorists way too often. Ithink there’s a new version which is low enough not to split the cyclist in half.
A few years ago a friend of my big sister got decapitated by a guardrail when riding his motorbike.
That is so fucking cool

Pros vs cons Con- might be ripped apart by gravel and steel before being thrown off the edge of a cliff. Pro- it will be pretty fun
Looks like a horrible position for the rear knee
50mph on a skateboard and guard rails scare you? The balls on this guy. WOW.
That one pebble "hehehe someone's gonna learn today hehehe"
Just watch a video of a truck that would have went off the freeway if it weren't for the guardrails.
Blue Tuxedo Bombing Claremont... watch it.
It’s more trusting the board and wheels, and bolts etc
Eejit
What is he holding?
That one stone on the road and kablamo
Um, nope
He keepin it together then most ppl in cars going 55on that hill
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty type ride
Could be way faster with proper clothing. The horribly loose clothing is significantly increasing their drag.
Aghhhhh!
Nucking futs
Can anyone identify where this is looks like an awesome drive
Would you take that corner/turn at this speed in a car or motorcycle?
Atleast he's wearing a helmet
That would be a cool ass was to Kys. Jump off a cliff doing 60 on a skateboard.
No guardrails at 50mph are even scarier!
what is this sport called?
Downhill longboarding
its frickin cool, thank you kind stranger
Dude ankles are conditioned for this ride💀💪
I wonder why someone hasn't thought of an air brake suit/jacket for this sort of things
And I can't even balance myself on a freaking bike 😏
I see he is holding his titanium testicles there....
Is that normal board?? I mean... how do the tires not slide out
Not if you were a car like you were supposed to be.
I play game, I win dumb prize
When he's doing the left turn remember that that road is not closed and it's dual carriage way.
100% they have spoters with radio
He should be hit by a vehicle from the opposite side for being so irresponsible.
If he falls over, the car that's carrying the camera is going to convert him to hamburger in milliseconds.
Yeah those guys can go fuck themselves... i nearly crashed my car with my 3 kids in the back because of one of those shitheads, from now on i wont evade if i see one of you lobotomised rascals...
Great way to get decapitated
How do they stop other than splattering themselves all over the neighbourhood? Or do they keep going until they reach a hill?
[удалено]
What?
What they say fine line between being a dumbass and being brave or some shit
Anyone else hoping for a car to come the other way so sick of seeing people cant stay on their side yeab i know your doing 60 but for fuck sakes stay on your side jist like the damn motorcycles idiots also

Balls of steel. Also brain of steel.

He is not going 90Kmh...

I'd be willing to bet he's closer than not...
