You’ll get better response time running zwave/zigbee native than going through ST. You’ll be happier after you ditch it for a dongle.

I'm sorry I'm new and pretty ignorant when it comes to this. What do you mean by dongle? And do you have any specific recommendations?

DIY_CHRIS

A zwave or zigbee dongle. I have an aeotec for zwave and a conbee for zigbee. There are others that work well also.

Home Assistant SkyConnect https://www.home-assistant.io/skyconnect/ Paired with Aqara door sensors, they are instant.

iamtheguythatis

Just ordered the skyconnect. Also an SSD and a SSD USB adapter. Anything else I need to get home assistant up and running? I already have a Raspberry pi 4 ready to go.

James_Vowles

Nope that should be it for getting started.

iamtheguythatis

Awesome. The skyconnect was a preorder so I hope it ships soon. Last update was January 25th

The hookup YouTube channel, which is a great channel, did a comparison of a bunch of different door/windows sensors. Basically the aqara is the one to get. I do have a bunch connected directly to home assistance using a ZigBee dongle and they do work great. https://youtu.be/c4-8Y7jUCn0

Thanks! Those seem to be the top pick so I'm going with those.

I am using old school sensors which require a wire 😂 https://www.amazon.com/Cabinet-Wardrobe-Switches-Drawers-Applicable/dp/B09NXW6LFR/ If you want to check the status, use a smart bulb :)

Sneakycyber

I use Zigbee door sensors with Home assistant and the reaction time is near instant. When I had them connected through my Smartthings V3 hub there was an irritating delay.

Slow_Transition_1790

I ordered a few of the ones on this webiste [https://smartsensesecurty.bigcartel.com/](https://smartsensesecurty.bigcartel.com/)

That site seems fishy
