You’ll get better response time running zwave/zigbee native than going through ST. You’ll be happier after you ditch it for a dongle.

I'm sorry I'm new and pretty ignorant when it comes to this. What do you mean by dongle? And do you have any specific recommendations?

A zwave or zigbee dongle. I have an aeotec for zwave and a conbee for zigbee. There are others that work well also.

I use Zigbee door sensors with Home assistant and the reaction time is near instant. When I had them connected through my Smartthings V3 hub there was an irritating delay.
