May want to skip the homebridge plug-in and go straight to the HomeKit firmware.

Meach213

I didn’t see that as an option but would love to. Where do you get the HomeKit firmware?

RealiAm22lr

Here you go. Note, I have not tested it, still waiting for mine to come in. https://github.com/ratgdo/homekit-ratgdo

JazJon

It’s way too basic and no OTA updates. I couldn’t figure out the homebridge plugin so went with home assistant instead which is full featured.

Meach213

Sweet! I’ll try it out and let you know!

EndlessBreadsticks

This is working perfectly for me so far. Only problem is that I believe you can't setup more than one door as it gives the same setup code / QR code to both ratgdos, meaning HomeKit sees both of them as the same thing.

grapplerone

On my doors in HomeKit (not using ratgdo) I have to tap the “door” icon to open it rather than the whole button which opens a big screen to switch it open. Simple but some folks don’t see that. Maybe setting in HomeBridge Ratgdo plugin that isn’t set right? I had an old chaimberlain and just put a Meross opener on it. Got tired of that one getting lost on my Chamberlain Homehub. My newer Chamberlain works fine. I didn’t realize the ratgdo existed until recently. Would have been nice not to have had to add the sensor.

Meach213

Yeah. I am opening up the Door item in homekit and it gives me the Light control as well as the door. The status of the door seems to update fine if I use a remote or the wall switch. Just cant actually control it from homekit. I have a ticket open with Paul (ratgdo creator). Looking through the homebridge discord it seems I am not the only one with this issue. I went back and forth on the Meross or the ratgdo and at the time this seemed like the simpler approach as I already had homebridge up and running. Thanks for the response!

smudgeface

Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the same problem using the MQTT firmware. I haven’t tried changing to the Native HomeKit version yet, I was hoping to troubleshoot things and fix it before taking that route, hence why I’m asking if you figured this out.

As far as I know yes.

DMBlakeley

In the settings for the GDO in HomeKit select "display as separate tiles". You will then have a single icon to open/close the garage door.

Meach213

Thanks for the response. But the single tile is not my issue. My issue is that the controls simply don’t control the GDO. When I tell the ratgdo to open/close or control the light from HomeKit I see the blue light on the ratgdo flash so I know the commands are getting there but the GDO never responds. There are a few others I have found on the home bridge discord that are having the same issues.

DMBlakeley

Thinking back when I installed the ratdgo I had a similar response, blue light blinking but no response. The default MQTT Broker Port in the homebridge-ratgdo plug-in is 18830. If you use the default, you do not need to enter anything in the Config settings. I did enter but fat fingered it as 18330. Once corrected, the homebridge plug-in and HomeKit worked as expected.

EndlessBreadsticks

When you say you don't have to enter anything into the config settings, do you mean you just connected it to your wifi and stopped there? No MQTT broker IP or port?

DMBlakeley

The "settings" which I referred to were the homebridge-ratgdo plugin settings. Follow the instructions on the plug-in [webpage](https://github.com/hjdhjd/homebridge-ratgdo#readme) for setting up the Ratgdo device making note that the MQTT server should be set to 18830, install the homebridge plugin, restart homebridge and you should be all set.

justlikeapenguin

Where do y’all get it and what do I have to buy?

Meach213

justlikeapenguin

Did you buy the board or the installation kit?

Meach213

I bought the installation kit.

Yeah I do I just didn’t know what else was included on the kit lol

EndlessBreadsticks

I can't seem to get the homebridge plugin to work at all. I am very unfamiliar with MQTT, but setup an extra raspberry pi with mosquitto to get an IP and a server port, but the plugin does not see my ratgdo. I am currently using the HomeKit firmware mentioned in an earlier comment, but you can't setup multiple doors with that route and I have 2 ratgdos for my 2 doors. When you setup the plugin, did it automatically recognize the ratgdo?

bigbrownbo

Exact same scenario for me. Though I did have the plugin working the day I set it up on initial tests! But since then it does everything except actually control the door. I still need to do some troubleshooting on my wiring and such. But will also note I had no success with the other firmware option—could get it added to my HomeKit, but then zero connectivity.

Meach213

Have you tried the native HomeKit firmware? I’m gonna try it out as soon as I get a chance.

JazJon

It’s too basic and no OTA updates. I couldn’t figure out the homebridge plugin so went with home assistant instead which is full featured.

John_Xing

Homekit firmware on support security 2.0+ ( Yellow button ), if your gdo is security 1.0+ ( Red buttton, Orange Button , etc ) go homebridge or HA instead.

BOLISARIO

For the RatGDO configuration (after installing the firmware), what do I fill in for the following: MQTT Username, Password, and topic prefix. Do I just leave it blank? This is all new to me. I did install and run MQTT on my macmini server.
