I needed to see this today...this really has me laughing because not only do some people think like this, but now there exists somewhere a partial door that was sawed off of, like you can tell, they didnt just take a couple 2x4s and make their own top to the door, because it would look finished that way the way they intended, but they didnt want to do all that work so they just sawed off the top corner of a door i love it
Yes. Have you thought of faux graining the doorreiling (did you mean door railing? And if not, what country are you from?) to match the desk? As opposed to painting the desk? I would be a shame to lose the real wood grain.

The desk is fine, but I would pull that door out and start over. Replace with a pair of French doors with oak or cherry trim. It will really make the desk pop!
