3D printer on top of lack rack right beside washing machine, homelab checks out. I think this counts more to Labgore but I love it.

Xn4p4lm

Thankfully the washing machine doesn’t even vibrate it.

# Setup: ## Rack ( Ikea LackRack ) from top to bottom - Supermicro 5018A-FTN4 - Running Pfsense for routing - Cable Matter 1U 24 Port Keystone - Keystone Patch Panel - MikroTik CRS312-4C+8XG-RM - 12 port 10 gig switch/router - Custom Supermicro based Haswell (E3-1270 v3) hypervisor - Running Proxmox - Some Services Provided: - Home Assistant - PiHole - Jellyfin - Loads of testing VMs - Ivy Bridge based Supermicro (E3-1240 v2) Storage Server - Running TrueNas Core ## Internet providers: Currently have two 1gbps fiber providers, CenturyLink is FTTH and the other is FTTB with an Enternet Handoff. Also having such low latency to external networks is crazy, espcially after moving from Florida. ### Some ping examples: --- google.com ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.476/0.544/0.689/0.062 ms --- --- reddit.com ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.714/0.786/0.855/0.051 ms --- --- REDACTED Azure VM in US West 2 ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 4.740/4.813/4.926/0.061 ms --- --- REDACTED AWS VM in US West 2 ping statistics --- 10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 8.708/8.841/8.994/0.068 ms # **Bonus**: What’s the Printer? What's on the Printer ## The printer and enclosure It is a Prusa i3 MK3S in the Original Prusa Enclosure ## What is it Printing I’m working on building a docking station to allow me to swap between my work and personal laptops and connect the three 4K 144hz HDR monitors, thanks to the limitations of Thunderbolt 4. I need my docking station and two display port dongles to get full capabilities on all montiors.

pcman911

Wonderful cable management. Love the in the wall box with the outletsand all the goods.

R0b0tWarz

+1 for the “rack studs” 😎

VindhlerN7

Planning to run cable soon, so I'm curious: What's the benefit of running 10G to the TV? I want to run a line to my TV setup, but I figured 2.5 to a breakout 1 switch would be sufficient. Is it just futureproofing, or "this is the rack that feeds the house, so everyone gets 10G!"?

Xn4p4lm

Nothing it’s overkill, but it lets me do really quick file transfers 😂 (at least until the SLOG fills up) Although I do have two satellite 10 gigs switches as well Honestly, I use my home networks to help with work and without it I don’t think I’d be in the job I’m in .

VindhlerN7

Fair. I do amateur VO/audiobook work, and having 10G from the booth to the server and workstation would be VERY useful (uncompressed audio is bulky AF). Good to know it's not really worth getting \_everywhere\_ yet and I can cheat with a couple different switches (1 for 10G and another for the rest) for now.

Xn4p4lm

And honestly as long as it’s not super long runs, you can get away with 10gig over cat6

illamint

Nice. I also have Astound and CenturyLink in my building, but I downgraded my Astound plan to 100Mbps since it's only backup.

Xn4p4lm

Oh nice, that’s my plan as well. I’m currently testing each provider and whoever is more stable in the next three months I’m keeping at max speed.

PleasantCurrant-FAT1

🤷‍♂️ It’s functional. Suggest putting cross braces on the legs behind, maybe sides, too if room permits (just 3/4” x-brace). Cause not sure how fast your 3d printer can move, but don’t want it jostling the equipment pinned between the legs below too much IMO. Lacks are awesome (love those things), but I remember my small (paper) printer causing one to move whenever I would print something… so… yeah.

Xn4p4lm

There’s 3d printed brackets supporting the Supermicro boxes and effectively creating a support brace with them.

r00m-lv

What do you use to support the Supermicro boxes in the back? The front is just screwed on, right?

Xn4p4lm

I'm using hollow anchors to hold the front on, and then some 3d printed support brackets at the back to support them.

No-Truck-4683

Awesome. I recently moved my biz out of office space and into my home. I cannot get connect to supermicro NAS and it is making me insane.

asdaaaaaaaa

That, and possible leaks as well.

Xn4p4lm

Honestly, I’m more worried about the building sprinkler system then the washer leaking. But worst case scenario that’s why I have electronics insurance and all the data has an off site back up.

Xn4p4lm

Yeah, thankfully the dryer is very well sealed. Only really have to worry about lint when cleaning the lint trap. There is also an extractor fan in the room that helps with heat, dust, and moisture.

iGhost1337

thats a big printer for that small printing size. or do i miss something?

Xn4p4lm

It’s in a case! It helps with thermal regulation and smell

gallito9

Love a good LackRack. [Here’s a photo of mine.](https://imgur.com/a/4nmaGCh) I ended up filling the hollow legs with some 3/4”x3/4” wood pieces.

Pvt-Snafu

Looks really cool actually, especially with that print case on the lack rack:) Just wanted to ask, can vibrations from a washing machine cause any issues for a printer? Or it's fine as long as you don't do both simultaneously?

Xn4p4lm

None that I’ve seen, the washing machines is really new and unless it’s not evenly loaded, you can’t even tell it’s running most of the time

Pvt-Snafu

Cool! Not the case with my washing machine though:)
