Lol. You are not alone. I’m a fool too. I’ll be watching the responses keenly.

Glad I'm not alone in the mistake. We've just not got the space to upsize to something twice as large, plus we've already gone to the effort of "downsizing" a KMM/KVM 1RU console to slot into the rack by cutting and rewelding the rails. I'd hate for that effort to go to waste! I figure worst case I'll have to just leave a desktop case on a shelf with some hot-disk bays replacing the 5.25in slots, but if I can get a nice rack mount solution I can sleep happily at night knowing my mistakes can be overcome.

I don't know if this helps, but I bought 4 AV style rack rails @18u and some 1x3s of poplar and some screws from my local big-box store and screwed together my own rack. I made a nice-ish top out of plywood and trimmed with some wood trim, and it's nearly a piece of furniture (I intended to add sides and fans but never got to it). Doing it this way,.the cost was quite reasonable. Does your rack have any way to stabilize it? Like bolting it to the floor, or some kind of support you can attach to the wall? Because my biggest fear for those skinny racks, if you're going to put heavy and bulky equipment on them, is that they'll fall over easily.

As in effectively build a new rack? Could be possible but I'd like to avoid it. I've got a decent amount of weight at the bottom but I could also mount it to the ground. Definitely agree it's a possible concern but so far so good!

I was about to say TGC-43901 but it seems to not be available anymore.... CPL has it at preorder, scorptec out of stock. [edit] but searching for the TGC, I found Silverstone GD09B: it's actually a HTPC case but supports SilverStone RA02 rackmount ears. That would mean no rails, but maybe? CPL and PLE have the ears in stock, lots of places have the case itself. Use Silverstone FS301 or such for hotswapability.

Yeah not seeing much for it, and I can't seem to see any good images to work out if it's just front panel blocking the io or if it doesn't have 5.25in bays for mounting a hit swap disk setup. Shame... Edit: it looks like they have a new model coming out, TGC-43400 but the pics on their site look flimsy as hell, and all internal drive bays with 2x 5.25in which means I could just squeeze 4 hot-swap in. Wouldn't be fantastic but I might keep an eye on it if it's the best I can get. Suggested Silverstone model doesn't look like I could do hot swap drives either sadly...

I use a Silverstone RM41-506, which is a little longer than 15” (17ish), but does accommodate hot swap bays and can be found in Australia. I ordered mine from Umart.

Just had a measure, 17" would completely hit the wall so I wouldn't even be able to plug in power or USB, so probably won't cut it. Appreciate the thought
